S23.E18: Power of Veto #6

Message added by peachmangosteen,

We understand that some hot button topics are coming up this season, such as with the Cookout. Reminder that it's ok to disagree but do NOT break our Be Civil rule. Keep your comments about the show, NOT about the people on this forum. If you can't disagree civilly and without talking about the posters, utilize the Ignore User function or scroll past their posts. And reminder that there is more to this season than the Cookout so if you feel like a conversation is going in circles, feel free to move on to something else. Going forward, unwillingness to adhere to these rules will result in warnings.

No veto ceremony again.  Pshaw.  Let’s not make this a habit, show.

I am so confused.  Why does there need to be a 45 foot billboard whenever the HOH wants to make a decision?  What was the point of Sarah Beth telling Britni ahead of time?

I feel bad but Britney terrorizing the house is just funny at this point.

Alyssa, I wouldn't brag about "finally winning something" when the competition was so obviously thrown to you and you knew about it.

I'm so sick of women crying and that meaning that Derek X. gets fucked over (Sarah Beth and Britni.). That's not fucking faaaaaaaaaaaaaair.

Claire sounds like the biggest moron in the diary room.  Isn't she some kind of smart scientist or something?  She speaks like the producers write her some big stupid script in crayon and say "Scream this into the camera."

I thought I would laugh more in a competition where people were falling in goo. Usually that's right up my laugh alley. Maybe I wasn't in the mood tonight. But I DID laugh at Alyssa jumping up and down yelling "I finally won something!" (Especially since Ky threw it.)

Oh, Britini, you're such a drama rollercoaster. She can go from ecstatic to incandescently mad in 5 seconds.

At the end, I said to Mr Melina "After the show ends, Big D and Azah should just adopt Britini. They can be a family." 😁

Why does SB always have glasses on?

LOL!!!  I think about this too!

Can you imagine, I have two very close friends that think sunglasses are pretentious.   AT ANY TIME.  I think that's a bit much, I mean, the sun burns my eyes so I'm quick to use shades [OUTSIDE] if I need to.  But any time?!?!?!?!!  Imagine how they'd feel about SB!

I didn't see the beginning of the veto comp.  Was that supposed to be Arnold reprising his role of Mr. Freeze (if so, such things are best left forgotten).   And what didn't roided up iceberg have to with jelly?   I swear, sometimes I think they randomly pull these comp themes out like veto chips.

SHE HAS AUTISM! Do people not read the posts on here?

And it is kinda gross what they are doing to her. All in the name of the CO. I feel like she is being exploited much like that bottom feeder, Dr Phil, exploits the folks he has on his show. Ick!

Has any of the HG, the CO in particular, considered how being alone in jury house will be for a person with ASD?

The studio lighting is really bright overhead. Like, really super burn your retinas bright. They probably just get used to wearing them 24/7. I remember BB18's Tiffany suffering from migraines because of how bright they were. I think there used to be a rule against sunglasses in the house but they got rid of it a few seasons back. The lights also generate a lot of heat - the walls in BB20's Have Not room had plastic decorations that smelled like they were burning because of the heat from the lights.

I'm  very tired of Britani's schtick and am ready for her to go. Too bad Whitney wasn't still there. She was inoffensive and not the right hand man of Brent everyone was making her out to be. She kind of got a raw deal.

Throwing OTEV? That seems almost sacreligeous so a pox on Ky and Asah (whose stock continues to fall).

First time this season Xavier was a background extra and Hannah cameos in a  non speaking role.

Backtracking to last episode...I think one of the most  honest moments in the entire season was Tiffany admitting that what she has with Clair is far more real than some of her relationships in The Cookout...giving me hope that it splinters sooner rather than later.

Well then she should have thought of that before going on the show. Or do you think if someone has autism they should be given a free ride to the end?

I want to see Britni nominated just to see what kind of craziness she tries to bring.

I like Britini. I'm glad she was on this season to add some extra energy, enthusiasm and drama. I do not consider that my post was bashing her, or ignoring her autism. I was just pointing out her extremely mercurial personality, which I often find endearing but might find tiring in real life.

And for the record, I know numerous people on the spectrum, and none of them are as dramatic and emotional as Britini. To some extent, I think that's just her personality. I think I should be able to comment on it without people thinking I'm mocking her or ignoring her challenges.

And if anyone needs further proof I really like her, I enjoyed her raps. There, I said it out loud! 😁

I'm over Britini crying like someone burned down her house & ran over her dog every time she gets nominated. It's the game of BB, no one promised her a walk to the end of the game. And the deal that she offered Ky would only have value if she actually would ever win an HOH, otherwise it's just words.

And those that threw the Otev veto should be ashamed of themselves- not for throwing it but for doing it so obviously ! At least act like you lost for real.

I wear glasses all of the time.  I have had them since the second grade.  Contact lenses scare me.  I had a surgery back in the day that was supposed to fix my vision, and the results for a variety of reason went horribly wrong.  That was before Lasik, it was called Radial Keratotomy eye surgery.  I regret having that surgery.

Oh, Icemiser, you just described my worst nightmare, I'm so sorry.  I got my first pair of glasses in fourth grade, but it should have been earlier if anyone had noticed.  The last time I got new glasses the clerk said when she saw my prescription she thought it was a mistake.  I once looked into Lasik and when the doctor said he could do the surgery, but along with the usual cuts he would have to pumice my eyes and I would still need glasses, just not as thick, I left in horror.  I wear glasses all the time and I wonder why anyone would think there should be times when I would prefer not to see.  I do have some soft lens contacts for special occasions, but their degree of correction is very poor so I haven't worn them for years.

Okay, "pumice my eyes" is one of the most terrifying phrases I've ever heard! I do not blame you for saying no to that.

By the way, my original question should have said, "Why does SB always wear sunglasses?" I understand why people always wear eyeglasses. But as an earlier poster said, maybe her eyes are sensitive to bright lights.

Wasn't Ian on the autism spectrum?

I feel like Britni  is fair game to either compliment or criticize just like anyone else in the competition. She signed up for the show, she wasn't forced into it. I would not have known she was on the autism spectrum if she hadn't announced it.

Sarah Beth wears sunglasses that I assume are not prescription so I don't think that's what's going on here.

I get Brit chose to be on the show. I get that she shouldn't get anything handed to her or any special treatment. But what I don't like is thr mean girl way they sometimes handle her. Like why did SB have to plop next to her and drop the bomb like that and then Ky seemed to be hiding from her which allowed her to get more worked up. And SB sat there like queen bee. Ick! And hey SB, you big twit, you are the next snowflake to be gone from the cookout. Wake up!

Also why can't they consider her being alone in jury for a week? Other seasons have done that...not sent someone as first or did send someone sooner rather than later based on mental health reasons. I mean one white person is as good as the next, for the CO plan, so why not Clair or SB this week? What is 1 more week to them? I get that Ky and Tiff need to keep their white stooge longer to help them longer. But Ky is HOH so Clair means nothing to him.

As far as talking about how annoying Brit is on here. That bothers me a little because she can't help it with the ASD. I do think the flash of emotions is part of of that. It's not like saying how annoying Brent was...cause he could have chosen to not say the crap he was saying. Brit can't control her emotions like that. She is not neuro-typical...Brent is so he is more fair game.

The CO members want to keep their own non-CO allies/pawns as long as possible. Plus, they're closer to some than others. Ky stated a couple of times on last night's show that he wasn't about to nominate SB and he didn't want to nominate DX either since they're close. I'm not sure why or at what point the target shifted from Claire to Brit, but I'm assuming Tiffany had some influence. So once that was decided, and Alyssa won POV, Brit was the only option. I get the feeling that Derek F and Azah are at the bottom of the CO hierarchy, so the fact they're not happy about losing their own non-CO ally is less of a consideration for the rest of the CO.

I'm not sure they know she's on the spectrum. I mean, to the average person who has a general idea (correctly or not) of what "on the spectrum" looks like, she doesn't come across that way.

How did I know Derek F would be first out at Otev? I must be psychic.

Honestly - the Veto episodes are getting to be a chore to watch. It's all so repetitive and paint by numbers. Do I really have to hear FOUR TIMES why people chose to bet on who they bet on? With every pick we cut to the DR so they can tell us why they picked so-and-so. Because if that person wins Veto, they get an extra Veto! We get it how it works. We don't need to hear the same exact same thing four times from every person!

And then during Otev I have to hear Azah, Derek F and Britini, in the DR, multiple times, telling me over and over that if Britini wins Otev then all the Jokers are safe. I lost track of how many times I had to hear them tell me the exact same thing. Enough. Do they think we all have short-term memory or something?

I think it depends on the person. A lot of people don't wear their glasses all the time because they don't need them all the time. Like, when I'm at home, a lot of the time, they are off. But, for driving, etc they are on. So, for some, it would just seem weird. A lot of people don't need their glasses on ALL the time.

Yeah, I'm sorry. I'm not treating her with kid gloves. Doing so is a disservice to her. She's not asking for special consideration. I'm not giving it to her. And she basically only does this for on the block shenanigans. The same way a lot of people do. It's exhausting no matter who does it. For her sake, she should go home. This show isn't built for her.

Oh I'm 100% positive they know. You can only hide a ziplock baggie FULL of medications for so long. It's probably at least a part of why Azah and DF have taken on 'guardian duty' over Britni.

Yes, I know,  my mother and son are like that,  but the difference is you never hear anyone say, "He doesn't wear his glasses all the time!" as though it was something wrong.  I've never heard that, but I've often heard people criticized for wearing their glasses all the time.  Many times, say a friend  going into a club with me, would look at me and say, "You don't have to wear your glasses do you?"  After I got contacts for the first time people would say things like "Thank God!  You looked awful in those thick glasses!"  I've never been able to keep my contacts in for more than about eight hours straight, so it was always great knowing what they really thought about me the other half of the time.   I've had guys I was dating not recognize me when they saw me with my glasses on.  Maybe that's why Sarah Beth keeps hers on, so people will still recognize her.

I'm a full time glasses wearer as well.  I did transition to contacts back in the early 80s when the first 14-day extended wear contacts were hitting the market, and wore them through college and a few years after - and I won’t deny, they did WONDERS for my social life. 😉  Shortly after I was switched to 30-day extended wears, though, a problem developed; I had a pair of contacts which, for whatever reason, stopped allowing oxygen to permeate through the lens to my corneas - and in case you didn’t know, your corneas (unlike the rest of your body) get most of their oxygen not from your blood, but from the surrounding air.  The body’s reaction to this is  simple; it starts growing new blood vessels to deliver to the corneas the oxygen they’re no longer getting from the atmosphere.  It’s called corneal neovascularization, if you want to look it up, but basically it just means new blood vessels start growing over your eyes - which kind of interferes with the whole “seeing” part of the eye thingie.

Six months of daily sulfur eye drops eventually cleared it up, but as the blood vessels retreated I was left with roaring cases of astigmatism in both eyes - my ophthalmologist described my corneas as “looking like the surface of the moon”.  And it’s been glasses ever since.

And in case you’re wondering – if the first thing you’re doing in the morning is putting sulfur drops in your eyes, ain’t NOTHING worse likely happening to you for the rest of the day.

Yes, but I don’t think Ian recognized it at the time; not until after the season, when he saw a lot of the SM comments on some of his more eccentric traits (#SqueakyHammock).   Ian has spoken on the subject since.

I have to say, I didn’t get that kind of vibe at all:

  1. Ten minutes before the PoV meeting Ky asks SB to go drop word to Britini that she’s going on the Block as a renom.
  2. SB goes straightaway to Britini and tells her, without a lot of beating around the bush – which I thought was pretty commendable, considering Britini had less than 10 minutes to work with at that point.
  3. Britini then goes immediately into the house to look for Ky, but can’t find him – because Production had apparently called Ky into the DR immediately after he and SB had spoken.

IMHO I thought SB did a good job in passing bad news to Britini quickly, while she still (presumably) had a chance to do something about it – and if you want to blame somebody over the whole cocked-up situation, blame (a) Ky for waiting until so close to the PoV ceremony to ask SB to do his dirty work for him, and (b) Production for pulling Ky out of play at what was for Britini a crucial moment in her game.

Ack. This reminds me of an eye-related scene in one Simpson's Halloween episode that was so horrifying that my teenage daughter ran screeching out of the room. If I want to annoy her now, years later, I just have to remind her of it. 😈

I’ve been off the Tiffany train for quite some time, but her “I am beyond over Azah’s tears over Britni” or however she said it made me laugh.

Kyland just cannot take Britni being alone in jury into account.  What if he changes his mind, and she stays, and she wins HOH?  Who is she putting up?  Kyland.

Don't the contestants go through some sort of psychological testing?  A big part of the game is psychological so why should Be it I be treated any differently than any other person who has been emotional or loud on this show?  I just don't get why some people want to give her a free pass. Again, nobody forced her to be on this show. According to her she has won numerous awards, is very intelligent and accomplished etc. and she chose to tackle this challenge.

Thank you for this. This whole discussion has been so confusing because SB doesn’t wear glasses lol.

HGs often wear sunglasses because the bright lights bother their eyes. Now whether that’s true or it’s just an excuse they use to cover the fact that they actually wear them to hide their eyes when they’re taking to people, who knows.
