Hi Neighbor April 24, 2022 Share April 24, 2022 I been watching Bill Maher for years, even before he got kicked off ABC. I agree with most of what he says although I feel I’m evolving past tribal thinking and more on self responsibility. My question is when did he become such an anti masker? It’s to the point where he’s radical and shames others for wearing theirs. Where does he get his facts from. Last I checked, mask did slow transmission when used properly. Was he referring to the danish study from 2020? Don’t forget, these are the same people who thought herd immunity was the way to go before vaccinations. It’s okay that he doesn’t want to wear a mask. I don’t either but don’t shame the people who still do. How come when he comes out with these anti mask alternative facts, there’s no medical expert as guests around to agree or dispute him? Is this by design so he doesn’t look like a fool on his own show? I hope he’s not trying to be the liberal Tucker Carlson. It would be nice if he had more medical experts on because people are very unsure and confused and quite frankly, Bill’s not helping. 2 Link to comment
Starchild May 6, 2022 Share May 6, 2022 My TV guide describes Bill as "acerbic". Oxford defines that as "sharp and forthright." There is also an older use of the word, though, that means "sour or bitter." I think that fits better. 5 1 Link to comment

Bill has always been an anti vaxxer…even though he did get a COVID vaccine. I’m guessing HBO mandated it. He’s become more right wing in recent years…he gets his facts from out of his ass. 1 3 Link to comment

MsTree July 25, 2022 Share July 25, 2022 I don't think the empty seats have anything to do with him/his talent. We're in the middle of a covid surge/spike, so people are being cautious. Then very recently some idiot decided to throw large rocks at casino windows. The breakage sounded like gun fire and people started running in droves. The rumor spread quickly on the strip of an active shooter, spooking a LOT Of people. None of the rumors were true, and the idiot has been apprehended. When you add up all the unfortunate circumstances, it's no wonder people didn't show up. 1 1 1 Link to comment

ShadowKnight2 January 8, 2023 Share January 8, 2023 I seriously doubt Bill Maher would have this author on his show - even though the author calls him out on his cancel culture whining - because Bill Maher is a cowardly POS who doesn't like his crybaby opinions challenged! 3 1 Link to comment

heatherchandler January 27, 2023 Share January 27, 2023 Bill does great work for animals, he is usually the first one to back a movement or give a quote to help it get traction. He is involved in helping get elephants out of zoos and into sanctuaries: https://www.idausa.org/campaign/elephants/10-worst-zoos-for-elephants-2022/ 1 Link to comment
juno January 28, 2023 Share January 28, 2023 I used to love this show. Something happened to Bill and it is something he does often. He started to get mad at the audience for not laughing at his jokes or reacting organically to his jokes in a way that he didn't like. He is one of the only comedians I have ever seen do this every week. There is an arrogance that is off the charts when a comedian gets mad at his audience for not reacting in a way that they want. I learned many years ago that an audience reacts the way they react and if the comedian doesn't like it, they need to be better. 3 1 Link to comment

Well then the two Bills need to grow the fuck up! If the jokes fall flat, it's on the comedian to try and be more funny. It's not on the audience to laugh at them. That's what narcissists try to do! 1 Link to comment

ShadowKnight2 January 30, 2023 Share January 30, 2023 28 minutes ago, DoctorAtomic said: It's not actually about the joke per se. That's why I used the word 'technique', although schtick was used above also. I wouldn't quite call it that. But it's a kind of approach or sensibility. That's why I pointed out an example of another comedian. This isn't particularly a forum for comedy discussion, although I think it's fair to talk about Bill's approach to comedy. He's talked about it at length. I won't belabor. Everyone is certainly entitled to their own opinion, and comedy is inherently subjective. Whether the joke is funny or not is separate from the relationship from the audience was my point. That still doesn't make them right for attacking the audience when their jokes fall flat. If I complained to a waiter that my food was horribly undercooked, I sure as hell wouldn't expect the staff to come at me and attack me for criticizing how they prepared my food. Click on the links above that I provided. They give great detail about why someone like Bill Maher is a whinny little bitch who can't accept that their brand of humor is now passé to the people they're trying to impress! 1 Link to comment
tessaray January 30, 2023 Share January 30, 2023 Overtime to air on CNN Friday night. gimmyqueue July 13 Share July 13 I dropped into this thread because I've watched Maher since he was doing Politically Incorrect on Comedy Central 25 years ago. He's still a very bright fellow, but yeah, ppl are seeing it right, he's def a libertine libertarian (his own self description, btw), but he's got it right most of the time, other than his own entire personal philosophy. At least he's read, he reads, unlike Tucker, et al at Fox. One thing about his current show In Real Time is the CONSTANT APPLAUSE from his audiences. It's so irritating it overrides how irritated i can get with Bill. STOP THAT, PLEASE! Every line, "then, clap clap clap clap clap clap clap CLAP!" Is that Bill, or just Bill pandering to American audiences who seem to feel obligated to applaud like crazy for no reason to very little reason. I heard a Brit make the same complaint about American audiences, clapping, hooting, and shouting allatime. It's asinine behavior. Link to comment
gimmyqueue November 7 Share November 7 There is just too damn much applause in Bill Maher's show. I still like Bill, he's more honest than the politicians, altho a libertine, libertarian of late. I still think he's okay. But his audiences applauding all the damn time. What the hell is that about? The other night i watched Bill, and counted the amount of applause breaks in his show (which i hate that shit!). I counted 78 different applause breaks ...absurd bullshit, nobody else does that. in a hour, that's more than one per minute. I hope my little scientific study will garner a bit of attention. Idiots clapping 78 times in an hour show, should at least draw a laff or two. 2 1 Link to comment
Foghorn Leghorn November 7 Share November 7 Comedians do expect applause however the guests get applause each and every single time they just make a point. 1 Link to comment
DoctorAtomic November 7 Share November 7 I don't think that's actually the case because they're clapping over guests making fairly banal points too. It's actually not that bad in the monologue and closer, but during the panel it's overbearing. Bill has chastised them at times. I don't think there's some applause sign going off every 150 seconds. 1 1 Link to comment
gimmyqueue November 12 Share November 12 Well, i watch all late night shows. Watched 'em since i was a kid with my mom, watching Carson and even Paar. None of the shows have 78 applause breaks. I didn't count any of them, but no where near 78 applause breaks like Maher has. 1 Link to comment
SG429 Tuesday at 09:45 PM Share Tuesday at 09:45 PM Well it's clear the writers/crew juice the laughs during the monologue. One guffaw is particularly familiar each week. Link to comment
