Bill Maher: The Man, the Myth, the Legend (In His Own Mind)

I been watching Bill Maher for years, even before he got kicked off ABC.  I agree with most of what he says although I feel I’m evolving past tribal thinking and more on self responsibility.  My question is when did he become such an anti masker?  It’s to the point where he’s radical and shames others for wearing theirs.  Where does he get his facts from.  Last I checked, mask did slow transmission when used properly.  Was he referring to the danish study from 2020?  Don’t forget, these are the same people who thought herd immunity was the way to go before vaccinations.  It’s okay that he doesn’t want to wear a mask.  I don’t either but don’t shame the people who still do.  How come when he comes out with these anti mask alternative facts, there’s no medical expert as guests around to agree or dispute him?  Is this by design so he doesn’t look like a fool on his own show?  I hope he’s not trying to be the liberal Tucker Carlson.  It would be nice if he had more medical experts on because people are very unsure and confused and quite frankly, Bill’s not helping.

My TV guide describes Bill as "acerbic". Oxford defines that as "sharp and forthright."

There is also an older use of the word, though, that means "sour or bitter." I think that fits better.

Bill has always been an anti vaxxer…even though he did get a COVID vaccine. I’m guessing HBO mandated it. He’s become more right wing in recent years…he gets his facts from out of his ass.

Bill is not a liberal.  He is trying to BE Tucker Carlson under the guise of being liberal, but actual liberals are "too woke" for him.

I have my criticisms of Bill, but I will not compare him to the biggest white supremacist on television. Tucker is that vile to me. Bill Maher >>> Tucker Carlson

I second that emotion!!!! 👏👏👏👏👏

I don't think the empty seats have anything to do with him/his talent. We're in the middle of a covid surge/spike, so people are being cautious. Then very recently some idiot decided to throw large rocks at casino windows. The breakage sounded like gun fire and people started running in droves. The rumor spread quickly on the strip of an active shooter, spooking a LOT Of people. None of the rumors were true, and the idiot has been apprehended. When you add up all the unfortunate circumstances, it's no wonder people didn't show up.

I gave up on Bill over a year ago, but would watch if he interviewed Jared Kushner, who is promoting his "book". My evil mind thinks it would be quite amusing.....

I'd rather he interview Anthony Fauci. But he won't because Bill Maher is a fucking chickenshit coward!

I used to love this show. Something happened to Bill and it is something he does often.

He started to get mad at the audience for not laughing at his jokes or reacting organically to his jokes in a way that he didn't like. He is one of the only comedians I have ever seen do this every week.

There is an arrogance that is off the charts when a comedian gets mad at his audience for not reacting in a way that they want.

I learned many years ago that an audience reacts the way they react and if the comedian doesn't like it, they need to be better.

I think this is part of his schtick!

Being antagonistic with the audience is an old school comic technique.

Bill Burr does it too.

Well then the two Bills need to grow the fuck up! If the jokes fall flat, it's on the comedian to try and be more funny. It's not on the audience to laugh at them. That's what narcissists try to do!

It's not actually about the joke per se. That's why I used the word 'technique', although schtick was used above also. I wouldn't quite call it that. But it's a kind of approach or sensibility. That's why I pointed out an example of another comedian. This isn't particularly a forum for comedy discussion, although I think it's fair to talk about Bill's approach to comedy. He's talked about it at length. I won't belabor. Everyone is certainly entitled to their own opinion, and comedy is inherently subjective. Whether the joke is funny or not is separate from the relationship from the audience was my point.

That still doesn't make them right for attacking the audience when their jokes fall flat. If I complained to a waiter that my food was horribly undercooked, I sure as hell wouldn't expect the staff to come at me and attack me for criticizing how they prepared my food.

Click on the links above that I provided. They give great detail about why someone like Bill Maher is a whinny little bitch who can't accept that their brand of humor is now passé to the people they're trying to impress!
