Media for Yellowstone: Y Times and Misdemeanors

"Yellowstone" received a SAG nomination for Best Ensemble, which is the equivalent of the Best TV Drama award.  But curiously, no individual actor nominations.  I would have thought Kevin Costner and Kelly Reilly had the best chances for individual nods.

This is the show's first major nomination for anything.  If this is for Season 4, I'm a bit puzzled.  But at least the show is finally getting some acting recognition.

If Emily is back as a regular and Jimmie has headed to the 6666, that just means more rodeo porn and shilling another Sheridan show. Fuck him.

The fact that she has been promoted to regular, and that the Jimmy actor is still listed as in the credits, says to me that Jimmy is still going to be on "Yellowstone".  He probably is going to be on both shows.  Or "6666" airs this summer and then he returns to "Yellowstone".  Aargh.  Looks like I will be fastforwarding a lot of the show again next season.

I'm interested to see "1932" and to see who is cast as John's parents.

I know Yellowstone is highly successful and I get it.  I watch it, too.  However, now I'm wondering if Taylor Sheridan has some financial interest in Paramount which is why they keep airing all the seasons over every holiday.  They're doing it again this weekend for Presidents Day and I think it's just too much.  I won't be watching until the new season airs.

Taylor Sheridan & friends bought the actual 6666 ranch within the last 2 years, so that may explain why he's developing a series about it. He needs to start earning back the $347 million his group paid for it.

I'm not sure the group that bought the 6666 are "Taylor's friends."  I read that they're a group of Chinese investors.

https://ew.com/tv/harrison-ford-helen-mirren-yellowstone-origin-series-1932/

Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren have signed on to star in "1932".  Are we to assume they are playing James and Margaret?  I'm still unclear as to exactly how old James and Margaret were in 1883.  They had an 18 year old daughter.  So let's say they were 40 (even though they both looked 50).  James and Margaret would be 89 years old in 1932.   Harrison Ford is 79, Helen Mirren is 76.  I guess it's not out of the realm of possibility.

If they aren't James and Margaret, I wonder who they will be.  I'm assuming that this storyline will follow the Dutton line that is the branch that includes Kevin Costner.  If Kevin Costner's John is 64 in 2021 then he was born in 1957 and I would assume that "1932" includes his dad as a child.

Is there a 1932 thread?

I don’t watch Yellowstone (other than when I wander through the living room and wonder “why is that blonde lady making that shopkeeper take off all her clothes?”) but I loved 1883.  I’m a sucker for anything with a stagecoach in it.

I do also love early 20th century Americana so am looking forward to 1932, as long as the ending isn’t ruined.

Taylor Sheridan’s Unbelievable Journey From Quitting Acting to Ruling TV With Yellowstone

Quote

He only acts in his shows as a last resort

While Sheridan has appeared onscreen in two of his shows so far—Yellowstone (as horse trader Travis Wheatley) and 1883 (as rancher Charles Goodnight)—he said it was only because he had no other options, not because he was eager to get back in front of the camera.

“I tried to cast both of those roles,” he said. “The only time you see me act is when I’ve written a role for somebody that’s doing something on a horse that we can’t find an actor who can do it. And then I tap in.”

That's interesting.

My husband and I really liked Sheridan as Hale in Sons. When he was killed off, we were unimpressed. Good for him for sticking to his principles.

Recall also that Hugh Dillon mentioned in the article is/was Sherriff Haskill.

‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff ‘6666’ Moves to Paramount Network From Paramount+

The “Yellowstone” spinoff series “6666” is joining the mothership show on Paramount Network.

It was previously reported that the new show would air exclusively on Paramount+. It will now run on the linear network first before episodes are made available to stream on demand. A premiere date has not been set.

“6666” was originally announced in February 2021 as one of several new shows on the development slate of “Yellowstone” co-creator Taylor Sheridan. The show takes place at the real 6666 ranch in Texas.

My friend and I spent a good hour trying to figure out the timeline for 1932 and we still aren't sure.  I think Harrison Ford will probably be John Dutton's grandfather.  I say that because it would leave time for Taylor Sheridan to make another spinoff set during WWII. LOL

Why Taylor Sheridan Shows Can’t Catch A Break With Emmy Voters
I saw this article thanks to some of the Rutherford Falls folks on Instagram. This paragraph in particular was screenshot…

Quote

There are widespread theories about Yellowstone‘s MIA status during awards season. Voters may continue to see the Kevin Costner drama as a red state western, a show about the other part of America that only your dad watches. And it certainly doesn’t help that Peacock’s Rutherford Falls likes to mock Yellowstone with its show-within-a-show called Adirondack, an adult drama about cowboys that features stereotypically drawn Native American characters.

The first point may be a reason but the second is absurd. No Emmy nom because a small comedy show makes fun of it? Ehhhhhh that’s such a reach.

I like Beth and Rip, and I hope they can remain happy.  I really couldn't give a crap about Kayce, or especially, Monica and the boy.  I thought I read somewhere that the actress who plays Monica had quit.  If we could only hope.  Monica is such an intensely irritating and useless character.

Article only mentioned Beth, Rip and Kayce.  Would be nice to get a preview for what is in store for John and Jamie.

The less said about Jimmy, the better.

Too bad he doesn't just stay there. I was re-watching the S3 and S4 finales, and when Jimmy comes onscreen, the story comes to a complete halt. I know that many Yellowstone fans join me in being really tired of the Texas 666 ranch stories being inserted into Yellowstone and taking time away from the characters we came to watch. I hope there isn't going to be as much this coming season.

HOW TAYLOR SHERIDAN CREATED AMERICA’S MOST POPULAR TV SHOW

An interesting article - it specifically comments on how Sheridan essentially writes his series himself. Thus all plot ridiculousness can be blamed solely on him. Good to know!

It also talks about the politics around the fans of the show and how it's interpreted, similar to The Variety article above.

Okay I’m putting this here bc I don’t think there’s a 1923 thread yet:

Holy CRAP!!  Timothy Dalton & Jerome Flynn are the bad guys in this one!!

I may just shriek my ass off til the premiere.

Yeah, I don't know how I missed that information but now I'm annoyed to be sucked back in. The cast is stacked.

Just read an article this morning that quoted Piper Perabo stating they haven't started filming the second half of Season 5 yet. It's saying episode 8 airs on Jan 1 but then there aren't any more episodes for a while. I read the TVLine article that Digital Spy refers to and I could see how her quote could be misconstrued. I've not searched for any other sources, however.

‘Yellowstone’ Star Kelly Reilly Explores Beth Dutton and the Burden She Carries: “It’s Painful”

Quote

The actress speaks to The Hollywood Reporter about being "energized by her irreverence and her danger and her recklessness but also her pain" in a revealing chat about her character on the hit Paramount Network series.

I always find it interesting how the actor interpret their character. I give the effusive praise of Taylor Sheridan a bit of a pass, though.

Kelly Reilly Has No Idea What’s Coming Next on ‘Yellowstone’

There are so many online groups devoted to Beth. Does the fan response surprise you?

I don’t do that at all. I don’t read a thing about myself or her. I don’t want to know. I say ignorance is bliss. I’m aware of it, you can’t not be aware of it, but I think it would be insanity to indulge in any of that. There’s a lot who despise her [even though so many love her]. She’s tapping into some psyche somewhere.

Article 1:

Wes Bentley on His ‘Yellowstone’ Power Move and Why Jamie Dutton Is Getting Easier For Him to Shake

Article 2:

Wes Bentley Was at Rock Bottom. Now He Is on ‘Yellowstone.’

Quote

“I’ve prided myself for most of my career on leaving it at the door, or like an athlete would say, leaving it on the field,” Bentley said. “But Jamie’s sadness permeates my life, even though I’m not sad. I’m very lucky to have a great family and be where I’m at in life, but he’s always there behind me, clawing at that, especially when I’m shooting.”

He said his wife sometimes has to point out Jamie’s unwanted presence: “‘You’re letting him come home now,” she tells him. “‘Jamie’s coming home and we don’t want him here.’”
