Good for you for being the only one to get FJ right, @teebax! I got it too, though I doubted myself until your response was revealed. Those guys were way too fast on the buzzer. I did like Trevor's story about his stolen car. But since Harry Potter, I can only think of Neville's toad when I hear the name Trevor. The Carol Burnett ear tug beats finger guns any day. 🙂

Say What?: Commercials That Made Us Scratch Our Heads
Browncoat replied to Lola16's topic in Commercials
There probably is, but I don't have a ginormous TV and can't see/read any fine print. Still, it's amusing to think that they'll owe me money (and lots of it!) every month because I haven't used all of my unlimited data. -
Say What?: Commercials That Made Us Scratch Our Heads
Browncoat replied to Lola16's topic in Commercials
Hey, U.S. Cellular guy, if I have unlimited data, how do you determine how much I haven't used so that you can pay me back for my unused data? It's unlimited! Shouldn't I get all my money back? -
I didn't grow up in the 50s, and I got it right away! 🙂

Not a big fan of Alexa "reading" the category names. At least they only had it doing that for the first round. I'm really surprised no one else could come up with Woolworth after the one contestant misspoke. Maybe they all thought it was Woolsworth? There was a Woolworth's in my hometown, a couple of doors down from the other dime store, Ben Franklin's. I was also surprised they couldn't get The Everly Brothers, especially since there was a photo. But I guess The Love Boat was before their time. I watched that every week (as a drinking game in college!), followed by Fantasy Island. I also got meal ticket, and FJ was an instaget for me. And it was a nice game that I enjoyed watching!

Moon Sunshine Dancer.

Charlie SellPhones. Heh.

I am watching an episode of The Monkees (I Was A Teenage Monster), very loosely based on Frankenstein, and there's a character named Groot.

Well, he had to go back to her house to get his bike, and he had to leave. Maybe he should have said goodbye, but in the moment, I probably wouldn't have even gotten to the front door -- just hopped on my bike and left. And I guess I don't understand ghosting, but I don't consider leaving after a perceived rejection or not answering the phone after a perceived rejection to be ghosting. I consider that to be either accepting of the rejection, or taking some time and space to process what just happened. I think of ghosting more when it seems like both people had a good time (which was not the case here), and then one or both cease communications. Either way, I am glad they made up -- I love Wallace Shawn, and I like Sturgis' relationship with MeeMaw. He should draw some boundaries with Sheldon, though.
-
From his point of view, he was rejected. In his mind, rejection of his proposal equaled rejection of him, even though we all know MeeMaw didn't mean it that way. I don't blame him at all for taking off and taking time to process that rejection. Her gesture of the ad helped him to understand the situation, but it's possible that he would have figured it out on his own, too.

Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage
Browncoat replied to Maverick's topic in Commercials
I'm not a fan of the commercial overall, but apparently I'm twelve, because I laugh every time I see that kid punch himself in the crotch. -
Indeed, and it's refreshing for a TV show to show a woman not leap into marriage just because a man proposes.

2/5 for this week.

I could have sat here all night and not ever come up with FJ.

Chris is the best Hemsworth. And possibly the best Chris.

I just started The Broken Earth trilogy by N.K. Jemisin.

I love that Veronica just went along with the switching places attempt, and didn't even roll her eyes or make Missy feel stupid for wanting to try. You know Georgie and Sheldon both would have made fun of Missy.

Boo, hiss.

I do! There’s a pets thread under the larger Everything Else topic, too, if you don’t want to post here. I’d link to it, but I have no idea how to do that with an iPad. 🙂

Nothing terribly interesting, just that I’m familiar with the play from high school as well as community theatre.
-
Well, that was convenient.
-
FJ was an instaget for me tonight. My local community theatre (which sadly no longer exists) did that play once upon a time. I really wanted to be in it, but had another obligation on one of the performance weekends. I could have missed a rehearsal weekend, but definitely not a performance weekend. Anyway, that's partly why I got it before Alex even finished reading the clue.

In Memoriam: Entertainment Industry Celebrity Deaths

Oh, that makes me sad! RIP, Chewie. 😞 -
I'm surprisingly glad we didn't lose the Afghanimals! But it wouldn't have hurt my feelings in the slightest if it had been an elimination leg and we lost those two guys, whoever they are. This leg seemed to be tailor-made for Becca and Floyd -- they just killed it! And I was impressed that Colin and Christie didn't have a breakdown with either the dancing or the karaoke. I probably would have chosen to catch prawns, which, incidentally, Tyler and Korey, are NOT fish! So by calling "here, fishy fishy fishy", you probably scared them all away.
