  1. That was definitely written by someone who's a fan of Nate, because it got his timing and emphasis on the joke down perfectly. I think the content is a little outside of Nate's wheelhouse (he mostly does more personal bits than macro concepts) but the observations were very much in line with how he delivers his humor. I'm a big Nate fan, because I think he's one of the few who has cracked the code for observational comedy in the 21st century. He can do compare and contrast comedy, as a white male, since he paints himself as the one in the wrong because of his "I'm dumb" stage persona. It never comes off as mean spirited the way many others who try to do the same thing do. Other comedians all seem to absolutely love him too.
  2. Well the writers certainly like to write precocious children. Henry and Phoebe are pushing Nora levels. Otherwise I felt it was a good first episode for the season to set things up. Nice to see Ted turning down his previous favourite [spelled incorrectly] coping mechanism, a trip to the Crown & Anchor.
  3. I do hope the showrunners knew it was coming and close out the series with an ending. As tiresome as the show had become, I did enjoy it early on. I prefer when shows go out on their own terms, I just wish that had been four or five years ago.
  4. I agree that this would have worked well as a series finale if the show doesn't get picked up for another season. But of course they leave it open with a few "stories for another time" and the most Dwayne Johnson idea of all time.of starting his own country. Of course, given the accents of Gellgum, maybe in 15 years all countries are run by Americans... Lia's deportation and the family's move from Hawaii will be a bit of story, but it really does seem like the majority of what can be told is going to be the movie career now, if the show goes another season.
  5. Becky seemed much more comfortable in this go out than in her initial appearance in the season opener. It was cool to see the actual picture of them at the event. Dwayne had definitely gone through a growth spurt that that stage, as he looked to be be significantly taller than both his folks in the "real life" shot. Given we know the move is coming, I'm guessing the death knell for Ata's promotion is coming, and I wonder if Lars is going to play a part in that. I agree that the modern timeline stuff seems to have really petered out from any sense of interest. I think it's okay if they just drop the framing device if the show gets renewed for another season.
  6. Just watched it on Paramount Plus and enjoyed it. It's not quite as comedy forward as the original, but it's still witty. Hamm definitely doesn't have Chevy's timing, but his Fletch feels more like a real person. The movie is only 90 minutes so it's an easy watch, I highly suggest checking it out.
  7. I've found the whole original cast is good, but the new kids just have no chemistry, and are all obviously Gen Zers. They don't seem to have much 90s aesthetic. Even Andrea Anders character seems to fit into the normal flow better than the kids.
  8. I liked this one! Bev, Barry, and Erica were all really funny (in their actual plot.. the cold open was a little cringy). And I think it was because they gave subdued performances. I think they handled a real and complex situation well. This was also the funniest I have found Geoff in a long while. Letting him be silly worked well. It was cute seeing him be so excited about partaking in the movie.
  9. Yup. Frost was definitely Shawn Michaels. "Vince's biggest superstar along with Stone Cold" who had to take time off in 1998 due to injury, and had a relationship with Vince that he used to look out for himself. The injury's different, obviously Frost is black and Shawn is white, so there's enough plausible deniability, but there we are. It wouldn't surprise me if Shawn didn't sign off on being portrayed in the show. But it also wouldn't surprise me if Dwayne had the foresight to not drag Shawn's name through the mud in his own show. Shawn knows who he was at that time, and has done a lot to reclaim his image with wrestling fans since then. Wrestling fans will know that he was frost but also know what has come since. No need for the show to drag a guy for 25 year old behavior to people who don't have full context. Fun episode though! They did a great job of portraying the match!
  10. If you had told me which season was created and filmed across stricter pandemic protocols, I wouldn't have guessed that was season one based on the output. Season 2 has far less cohesive storytelling, the editing and blocking were more obvious (not in a good way) and everything just felt a little less professional. The supporting characters certainly developed with Caanan, Willow, Evangeline, and especially Lila all being very additive to the cast. And some of the storylines were good like Whitney finding her academic purpose, Leighton's continued growth, and even the overall concept of the Foxy and Bela's wins. There just was not a cohesive theme, which I think the season missed. And then this final episode wanted to make us feel like there was. Also, there was no reason to end the season on Bela's "cliffhanger". I really dislike when shows do that
  11. When Mary dwells on what she's missing about the church she seems quite lost, but when she finds something to fill that time she's genuinely happy. I'm not religious myself but I can understand the importance of the community the church provides. It's a shame this particular church seems to place cult like adherence rules and judgment at the centre of acceptance into that community
  12. I'm glad to see missus confidence in herself when it comes to her relationships is reaching the confidence she has in other areas of he life.
  13. This is the second time Bela has taken Leighton's advice and twisted it in her own mind to "sleep your way to the top" ("make them like you" in the pilot and " make sure he remembers you" here). Indo think that both times she saw it as a hail Mary with things slipping away from her. I was glad that Dan wasn't a complete jerk and genuinely seemed to be down to support both Bela and Eric. We already had the jerk alum story. It just sucks that she made the worst decision. Hopefully there's some reckoning for her.
  14. The show obviously has some momentum with more recognizable actors showing.up as University staff. Rachael Harris as the Dean and Kerri Kenney as the prof. I didn't mind the established actors as the parents in Season One since they only popped in and out, but more famous faces more generally around the show may take the focus off the leads. Fortunately both seemed to support in their roles this episode and not try to steal the scenes they were in.
  15. Thanks everyone for making this season fun to follow along. The community in here was pretty positive of everyone competing. True to my word, I didn't comment during the season, though I may have let a couple reactions fly. My friend who competed is Stephen C. ("Crash"). It's been a big year for him, they found out they might be competing last Christmas, and then filmed in the spring. He's been upbeat about the process and has had nothing but fantastic things to say about all the competitors, judges, and Will. Stephen J was recruited for the show, and suggested Stephen C. due to the firefighter connection. Though it is true they met not through work but in line at the Lego Store years ago. They rented a movie theater for the premier episode, which was a blast. The place erupted when they won that challenge. This was one of his few complaints about the show. He showed up with a long quarantine flow, and got styled early in the process with the loose strand that would fall over his face. He managed to convince them to get rid of the strand, but the big side part sprayed down was the style he had to rock for the rest of filming. One of the first things he did when he got home was grab a haircut. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cc0sJfSJKhfhHsn8Z4RPdnkACtLl-PG04s6gLE0/ Thanks again, everyone, for being a great community!
  16. Did it seem like the show was going to exhaustive lengths to not actually say "Jewish"? Lots of talk about Hanukkah and the items that go along with it. We even had a yarmulke wearing rabbai identified as such, but I don't recall anyone ever actually saying "we're a Jewish family" or "this is part of our Jewish heritage" it was "we're a a Hannukkah family" and these are my/our traditions."
  17. So Shane (season 1) is a psychopath, Cameron is a sociopath. Here's to watching them drive each other off a cliff while skiing at The White Lotus Kitzbühel in Season 3.
  18. I continue to enjoy the show as easy casual entertainment, but I kind of feel like we're nearing the end of stories to tell. I don't know that there's much more to build on in the oldest Dwayne era, that's all pretty well documented at this point. Middle Dwayne is running up against eldest Dwayne's story from the first season, and young Dewey's stories turn more on his folks, which don't have as much story with post-WWF Rocky. Hoping for a strong finish and wrapping up the show with this season
  19. While we've been all like to clearly see how susceptible Tanya is to flattery. It's amazing how well many of our other characters are manipulated. I still want to believe that Lucia has genuine affection for Albie and a desire to changer her life following her encounter with Cameron and Ethan, but she's definitely working him to get out. Even if she's not trying to be malicious. I've seen the Di Grassos' story playout in real life. The distant relatives still living in the same town don't give a crap about people they've never met, now trying to use them as a tourist stop.
  20. Watching this episode made me think of The White Lotus and the discussion around it of "How can you possibly like any of these characters?" Well, I watch Goldbergs, and that family will make anyone appear likable in relative terms!
  21. In the late 90s I remember my parents remarking that young women's fashion of the era was "very 70s"
  22. I agree. The way Lucia referred to "this guy" definitely feels like a rehearsed line to enforce guys to collect. She's made no reference to any pimp to Mia, which would seem like critical info. The guy in the street seemed like a former client or lover. I get the feeling she can't decide if she wants to work Albie or just enjoy her time with him. I do think she genuinely likes him and her epiphany was sooner authentic, but old habits are hard to break. Or maybe I'm just as gullible as Albie. On three notes: I definitely took Daphne's phone picture stunt as her way of saying "I get mine too, and that's fine", I didn't sense much warning in her tone. Haley Lu Richardson's no nudity clause has to be pretty good for her character to wake up in shorts and a t-shirt after a drunken hook-up. The White Lotus' Sexual Harrassment Policy needs some work.
  23. I enjoy everyone referring to growth up Dwayne as Dewey.
  24. Tanya must have an outstanding accountant and lawyer because she is just such a mark for anyone who pays her the slightest bit of attention. Portia could probably triple her salary just by feeding her a daily compliment from a calendar. Of course, both Portia and Albie fall for their own respective people who lavish them with attention. What luck that they simultaneously find someone hot that's giving them the cheap attention they crave. Lucia's epiphany regarding her future comes after being shorted. I wonder how long it will last.
  25. Sex workers are purely transactional. Someone like Cameron who would have the means and access would know to go that avenue (most of the time). He's married and seems to have some degree of care for his wife and kids, and sex workers don't develop feelings. They provide a service and leave. Now, I'm not sure he's smart enough to leave it at that. His interactions with Harper would certainly seem to indicate he doesn't.
