  1. I really appreciated your response. I'm also Canadian and have lived in Australia and go back and forth on my views of the monarchy, especially in the commonwealth countries. I did a good bit of reading following Elizabeth's passing and ultimately I feel there is great value in the Monarchy for England (and admittedly less for certain areas of the broader UK). I see the value in a permanent head of state who is not political, but is fiercely loyal to the country. I think your country can handle a Prime Minister that only lasts a month and half when there is that broader stability. That is there's more to it, than "It's a nice thing that makes us unique, or having someone to great foreign dignitaries." Whereas the US was born from rebellion, modern Britain has been dictated by its stability under a monarch, and I get why those concepts feel so diametrically opposed to each nation when viewing the other. However, in my own country I continue to see less and less practical application to the monarchy. I think it keeps us tethered a little too strongly to the UK for cultural reasons that make our go forward relations with the large French and Indigenous communities in our country, to say nothing of the more modern vast global immigrant populations. As we attempt to move forward on the concepts of reconciliation, it seems quite anachronistic that a lawyer advocating for indigenous rights needs to also bear the title of "King's Counsel." And that's even more ramped up in many of the other commonwealth nations, that don't have a significant population that can trace its lineage back to the Monarchy's country. Like you, I think there is a lot to be encouraged about with Charles. He won't have his mother's "quietness" but I believe he'll go much further in reducing the role of the Monarchy in British Life, and be setting that up for his own descendants to continue to take up. What that role takes in the various Commonwealth countries will be very interesting to observe.
  2. Harper languishing about the world ending while sporting a bathing suit held together by an oversized gold Dolce and Gabana clasp means The White Lotus is back in force!
  3. The show has a great opportunity with Mary and Missy. I hope they don't waste it
  4. I'm interested to see how the show handles Adam going to NYU. I have a sneaking suspicion he'll be deferring his enrollment to help out at home with the new baby and Murray's absence. This, of course will screw over Dave Kim, who wanted to blaze his own path originally anyway. I do worry where things are going to go without the school to fall back on. That house could get pretty claustrophobic pretty quickly
  5. New trailier has dropped, as has Ian's voice... https://www.instagram.com/p/Cii9Ac4AiZw/
  6. It was great that the two that made it to the last hole were the contestants who have been the most consistent putters this season. Like Rob and Joe said, it really did come down to the putting. As was mentioned, it was easy to root for everyone in the top 9. So a really fun finale. I just love how much fun everyone seem to have on this show
  7. The scene in Bolivia dropped just about every emotion into 5 minutes. Terror, relief, humor, sadness, anger, happiness, confusion. I have no idea where Hank and Cristobal go from here. From the look on Hank's face, I don't think he knows either. I figure Albert may pull rank and have Barry transferred. Our protagonists look to be starting next season dispersed, I suspect circumstance will return them all to LA.
  8. If your show can deliver with your title character barely being in the episode and not delivering a single line (except for some labored breathing), you've built something really cool! Barry's hallucination on the beach was so well done. As was the MasterClass. Oh and Albert's interrogation of Fuches. How/Why is there only one more episode?!?!?
  9. I really enjoyed it! The flying scenes were just top notch. It's truly impressive they were able to shoot all of that practically, which is a huge credit to the whole production team. The plot was adequate, and believable, to bring Maverick back to Top Gun, even if it was a bit predictable throughout. There were also a few too many characters, meaning they weren't able to get deep enough. They obviously wanted us to like the young crew like we did the original class, but they didn't get a lot of development beyond exposition, if they were lucky to get that. I don't think Manny Jacinto's character got anything more than a quick reaction shot. But those are minor. This was so much fun. Cruise, for all his weirdness, makes great popcorn films. I think they hit the perfect callbacks and told a good story.
  10. Ginzy and Essie did some heavy lifting for comedy in the supporting roles and I liked their interactions with Barry. But a show that actually cared would have found a way to get Chad Kremp and Muscles Mersky, if not some of the other smaller William Penn students, for the main character's graduation. After more than 200 episodes, and 9 seasons a show set in a decade needs to look for a way to wind down next year. I've said it before, but bring back Adam F. Goldberg to show run a 13 episode season. You've dumped Garlin's salary so that will free up some budget. Deal with the Death of Murray early in the season and wrap up everyone else's story. Take a cue from That 70s Show, and your finale is New Year's Eve 1989. Adam can remember that specific date because something big happens in his life.
  11. Randy sticking around Sears after cutting the ribbon was too good. I loved that they came back to it, and didn't involve any of the other actors. So strange for the show to give a "story" to a guest role not involving the core cast but just hilarious. Wrestlers have often said the Macho Man character wasn't **that** much of a dialed up version of who Randy really was. I asked his joy, and if course being introduced to Slim Jims. Also, it was nice for Ata and Rocky to have stories that were related but independent. Do Dwayne and Forrest Whittaker have a connection we know about previously?
  12. Given what' Bill's said about the veil lifting (from downthread) I wonder if there's two parts to this. Katie's observation that she's with a violent guy has lead her to worry about that perception, and as a she's so closely associated with what she now believes is going to be a big hit show dealing with domestic violence, she's more concerned about the perception than really coming to terms with her own reality. Sally's motivations have long been about perception, hence the modifying her showcase to what would stand-out more. Though she did seem to put two and two together about quality vs perception with the kick-ass women show. I am so ready for a gag where the broader public tunes into the show thinking its going to be Janis Joplin biopic and fleeing quickly. Everything around the Detonate App was sooooo good. I have to believe Hank's not that dumb (not the app makers) and he was just making fun of apps himself, but you can never be so sure. The customer support was so excellent though. What a clever satire of modern capitalism.
  13. Sheldon had some great comedic moments with the family in this one. I think the show is the strongest when it leans into the ensemble instead of focusing on him. This episode did that really well. His banter with George earlier in the episode had me laughing. Missy continues to be a tour de force in the back half of the season. Starting with the Paige storyline, she's been great with her emotional contributions to her family through this whole storyline. I also really enjoyed Meemaw.
  14. I did have to laugh that in 1982 the Arena had an HD Jumbotron with video to the locker room. I don't think WWF had their Jumbotron until the mid-to-late nineties. Still, it played the story so well.
  15. First off, I'm loving the nuanced look at Rocky through all three stories this season. Second, Joseph Lee Anderson and Stacey Leilua are giving incredible performances this year. I'm hoping this opens some doors for them. Thankfully Dwayne and Randall were able to provide the comic relief, but this was a really enjoyable emotional episode. I never though "Young Rock" would be must see tv for me. But I am genuinely excited for it each week.
  16. However many years have passed since the premiere and I still love the music over the title card. Reminds me of going to see a movie in an art deco movie theater. Things are setting up for the chickens to come home to roost for Barry on so many fronts. I can't tell who is most unpredictable at this point. I love that I have no idea how the season will play out
  17. I'm glad to have this goofiness back for the summer!
  18. That was a lot of fun. I felt Dwayne's butterflies leading up to his match. They did a great job of building it, even if we went a little hard on the "Future Superstars" angle (they can't all be the GOAT, Dwayne) The family, and The Shiel were great comedic relief in this one, as was Randall as usual. I can't believe how much I'm enjoying this silly show.
  19. Raegan Record is turning into quite the actress. She's able to emote so much through her expressions! I'm enjoying the serialized story, it's interesting seeing how the whole family reacts to the situation. Interesting that they all need someone outside the family to talk to.
  20. Last year, I thought the teenage years were the weakest segments, partly because they had the least "real world counterparts," but this year it's proving to be perhaps the strongest segment. Multiple laugh out lots moments tonight, but the "Wait, who is telling this story?" got me good. The Gold Coast standing in for Nashville would probably work best if the change the banners on the light standards, haha
  21. Promo for the new season One of my friends in one of the contestants. I'll poke my head in from time to time to see some of the unbiased discourse, but will likely refrain from posting myself.
  22. Good to see Barry and Erica learn their lesson and approach things as the mature adults they are. I can't wait what comes up to see how they've completely forgotten about it by the next episode. I thought when Barry and Erica visited Pops at the Condo it was revealed the beach was multiple bus-rides away, but here it seemed to be.... across the street? Nice to have some Pops references again at any rate.
  23. Well it's good to know there's one thing Simone Biles doesn't kick ass at, acting. There's hope for the rest of us! But she was serviceable for what she needed to do and it was nice to have a quick cameo in the final episode. I'm glad they left with Dre and Bow agreeing on something form the jump and following through. I don't think they needed to have one more fundamental disagreement on how to handle a situation. I hope their new situation works out for them. Yara's role with the original show this past year was really strange, but glad she was there for the final scene.
  24. I've found Mary's faith to be personal to her but ultimately she's understanding in what it means for her family. She's okay with George and Georgie not attending church, understanding of Sheldon's questioning/agnostic leanings (and supportive of his pursuit of science), and she allowed Missy to go to her dance and push some boundaries. That said, she'll always let you know where she stands. And she probably feels those around her could use a little more Jesus.
  25. They are taking some more risks with the characters this season. Season 1 really seemed like a love-letter to Rocky, which was understandable as he had just passed, but it's nice to see they're willing to address some of his shortcomings, or "challenging behaviours" this year. I doubt they'll get into his philandering knowing where the creative control lies, but painting around the edges of it will likely be the basis there. Also grown Dwayne is showing to not be infallible, which is a relief. Grandma is on the road to being Flanderized as she has less to do, but damn if don't laugh every time she talks to "High Chief" like he's really there.
