  1. It would be easy to believe that Ami doesn't have cancer but some infection or other non-lethal problem or possibly isn't sick at all....everything else is made up so why not this; it falls right into the Brown's shifty ways. There's a report today though that she's getting ready for a second round of Chemo and the only reason I'm leaning towards the "it's true" side of the campfire is the lack of a show or filming - If Ami were only faking sick or playing at it being more serious than it is they would be filming the "treatment" and billing it as the family wants to share this journey and Ami wants the fans to see her fight - there's no way in the world the family Billy would let the opportunity to make money pass them by and Disco would be all over advertising it.
  2. Doesn't hold my attention either - it's definitely a play a game/read a story while watching sort of show. The best parts are the actual military operations, the personal interactions not so much. I can't seem to actually care about most of the characters. Clay would be find if they'd just move on with it - like you said, he's second in the credits and I had mentioned in another thread his top billing obviously means he's going to become part of the team. So other than curiosity of how he gets out of training and on Booth's Jason's team there's no suspense of "will he make it" which takes away a lot of his story. And, to me, the whole "Because of my father I'm deep and damaged and everyone hates me" schtick just isn't an interesting character choice.
  3. Yea! - I honestly thought there'd be more bashing; so glad I'm not the only one that liked it. Maybe the show works best when it doesn't take itself to seriously, but what I liked was the characters - they all got to do something: Toby and his one liners, Walter channeling Cabe (and coming across like David Caruso circa CSI Miami), everything Sylvester. The funniest part though was everyone invading the headquarters at once and Cabe's repeated "I don't know" as each asked who Patty was.
  4. I can't ever get all the boys names straight - which one is second from the right? Because in that picture he is a dead on JB clone right down to the posed smile. Joe on the other hand - that hairline at 22 - I hope Kendra likes the Captain Picard look because in 5-7 years Joe will be rockin it (not that I'd expect either of them to know who Captain Picard is)
  5. Labs are actually one of the top breeds of police dogs because of their sniffing ability. What had me laughing though was the german shepard (another great police dog, probably better at it than labs) when they started the raid it was all over the place looking everywhere but where they were going, I think that's one dog actor that broke character. As soon as the owner died I turned to Mr Force and said "And this is the story of how Danny and Steve get their very own doggy". I figured them keeping Eddie wasn't unrealistic since he served overseas, worked for the DEA, lost his owner/trainer AND was shot that should be enough for the DEA to retire him. Both Alex and Scott are dog people and take them to work - check the H5O bloopers and pretty much every season there's a couple outtakes with one or both dogs invading a scene (my favorite but I don't remember which season is in Steve's backyard and Alex's dog is under his chair and won't leave). I'm guessing Junior has to go to academy to learn some law basics and also so Steve can see if he's really serious about this or if it's just some hero worship thing - the guy did seem a little to eager which might have raised some flags with Steve. Not completely believable but I don't know if it's more or less believable than Steve just hiring the guy off the street - I think people would complain if they went that route too. If this is the final season I hope they can settle differences with Grace and Daniel and get them back for a final episode but at least they're being mentioned and their absence explained.
  6. I like it in a I can play a word game and still watch/listen kind of way - it's not so serious that I can't look away or I'll miss something big and it's not quite so stupid that it gets tuned out completely. I thought the parachute scene this week was well done switching to their pov and night vision. If they continue with every episode "they go in, they encounter a problem, they fix it, they come home safe...and repeat" that's when it'll get tiring and reduced to tune out status. As much as I love Max Thieriot I don't feel compelled by his story line, I blame that mostly on us knowing he's a series regular so any drama or angst over will he make it/will he wash out is pretty much taken away and the "we hate him because of his dad" backstory doesn't really add much - the best thing might be to fast track that a little, write his epiphany or whatever wakes him up to act like he's on a team into the first 6-9 episodes not drag it over a full season. Also really like Alona Tal - please writers promise she'll be used better in future episodes than what she was given as an introduction. Honestly between those two and David I guess I'm watching it for the actors and while it's not horrible they do need to step it up a bit.
  7. This, This, This.............I think a lot of people who think Kate is being sensitive don't totally get it; her reactions today are ingrained in her from how she grew up. It's hard to be a kid and have every compliment or comment be a backhanded criticism. Remember when Kate had appendicitis and Rebecca's first reaction was "you ate too many cookies" without even checking her for a fever or asking her questions about how she felt? And when they both went to the gastric appointment and Rebecca was not only shocked to find out that Kate had taken anti-depressants but answered "No" when the Doctor asked about it before Kate could even say anything. I don't think Rebecca's a horrible person but she's a little blind to how what she sees as helping came across to a child who may not have had the highest self-esteem to begin with. If a parent does it once or twice it's not so bad but if every interaction is "well that was great but you could have...." it does have an effect; I think the show is being very true to life on this. I wish Keven and Beth had hugged but I don't think they have that close of an in-law relationship (yet). It was nice to see them together though and that they both opened up and shared a little. Kevin seemed to really care that Randell was having trouble with the adoption/foster decision. I'm guessing the college story means they got closer after Jack died but drifted apart again after living on different coasts as adults. I liked this episode a lot even though there was so much going on. Maybe they're trying to set up a lot of future story lines so they pushed a lot of that set-up into the first two episodes to kick things off? Don't know but since the writers have said they already had a multi-year plan set out at least we know wherever this is leading they're not winging it just to drag things along and stretch the show (which never works if past experience watching other serial type shows is any proof).
  8. As far as knowing how Jack dies right now, having that revealed, I just want to repeat oh my god over & over. timeline is pretty set now but I have two thoughts on the broken leg / Kate tells Kevin thing. 1 it's a hint for future episodes, if/when we see Kevin break a leg we know the fire/death is close. Only downside is we already know their ages and that they watched the Steelers game so another hint isn't needed. 2 the one I think more likely Jack is injured in the fire (burns, smoke inhalation, head or internal injuries) but he lives for days or weeks then dies which explains why the kids were with Miguel but Kevin was on a date. Also kudos to the show getting Ron Howard back "even the tennis ball was tearing up" :-)
  9. This had me so nuts it put Joy and her dress indicision far to the background. You're adults (well, in age at least); you don't need have to abide by a curfew or any random parental morality rules that supposedly keep you from dry humping each other because you stayed up talking and hugged for a full 4 seconds. Some day, we very very much hope, a Dugger (preferably a girl) is going to reach 18 and tell JB exactly where he can shove his patriarchal headship rules I believe deep in Grammies fridge is a bottle of very special "juice"; probably labeled prune concentrate so the kids don't touch it. A little special juice enhanced coffee for events like the dress shopping or any time she has to go out with MeChelle let her maintain that thousand yard stare we saw last episode
  10. Funny you mentioned acquiring and I found this on Jer's twitter from yesterday - book on sale for $5 and he bought 20 copies, so he spent $100 on multiple copies of a single book. No mention at all why - to have extra's on hand, to give to his "flock", to hand out on street corners. One person replied he should sign some and do a fund raiser for the hurricanes but he never replied. If a person has the money they can spend it as they like - does make me wonder though, where does his money come from, not his ministry it has to be the show. But I think it's a little weird to tweet and brag that you bought 20 copies of a book because it's "good" but not say why so many copies in the first place.
  11. My grandparents got married March 13, 1925; my mother was born Sept. 16, 1925. I think it bothered her, and I suspect she was teased by her younger sisters. I had no idea until I started doing genealogy. Without sharing years (vain women we are) :-) My parents got me in just under the wire; they were married on New Years Eve and I was born in the middle of the following September. Good thing I wasn't premature! I completely missed the wedding episodes, DVR didn't pick them up and I had no idea they'd aired until I saw it pop up on You Tube last night. I just watched the wedding part and a little of the prep and did a FF through a lot of the behind the scenes chatter. The things that jumped out - Kendra's dress was pretty but she was daring (fundie daring) with the sleeves, they were as short as could be allowed. When Joe walked his parents down the aisle he gave Michelle a long actual FRONT hug that looked like a real hug for once, oddly he and JB then had a short emotionless side hug. I didn't mind the guy dropping in with the rings but it really, really showcased Kendra's giggle, first time I truly heard what everyone's been saying about it, high pitched with this little gasping rise at the end - hope Joe sees that as cute because it could get old real fast.
  12. I wonder if this comes down to the buddy/age connection? Jessa seems lost without Jinger because of how close they are in age and the two are definitely close. But Joy is having Jill as matron-of-honor because they were buddies. Does that make Jessa less close to Joy (and the reverse) and does that maybe also explain Joys submissiveness to Austin and how she seems to have lost some of the spark she had? Being buddies with the house snitch who seems to be the most toe-the-line of the adult daughters must have rubbed off on Joy somewhat. I forgot about this until I saw your post.............They could go to a "big name" store for the publicity but rumor is they're banned from Kleinfeld after MeChelle got her renewal dress there - supposedly because she and JB were difficult to deal with and they didn't control the howlers (big surprise) who ran around the store disrupting the other shoppers. If the rumors are true it's no wonder no other fancy stores want to be invaded by them or their show.
  13. And she had to consult her Mommy over whether that would be appropriate or not? A "courting" (in the real world dating) women, over the age of 16 who can not figure out if it's OK for her boyfriend/suitor/whatever they call him to grab her arm or hand or even waist when the alternative is she falls and breaks something? Is this a parenting fail or a modesty fail or is she just that sheltered and dumb - or do we go with door #3 and say all of the above. The funny thing is I don't think Kendra is that bad, giggles aside she seems nice but she seems nice in a childish way like she's still a kid playing at being an adult. A lot of the girls seems like that and I blame it on their upbringing, emotionally she's a 14 year old with her first crush. Spurg continues to be the best part of the show - Loved the veggies in the pocket trick (bonus points if those had made it all the way into the washing machine) Can I add #13: Anytime someone mentions how fast an event happened in the past or is happening in the future and someone else answers with the insightful "Crazy"
  14. Seeing Jill and Derrick in Central America was eye roll inducing - before it was just part of the show we usually tuned those parts out but with everything Derrick has done recently and the fact that the whole world knows their trips were pretty much fake and not sanctioned to go on showing it like they're doing real work is laughable. What was telling though was Jill's interview - how many times did she use the word "safe"? They may be in a compound with security and fences and they may be closer to civilization and stores then we're lead to believe but Jill is still shook over whatever happened during previous trips or because of phobias/psychological problems she has. That's the one part I don't think is fake; I think her happy to be in the mission-field smile is fake and it's when she talks about the dangers and whether she feels safe that she's letting her true feelings show. I also think Derrick is completely oblivious to his wife's issues (second choice, he knows she has some problems but figures they'll pray it away). Joy just wants to be married, they could tell her they're flying her into the sanctuary on wires and she'd be like "OK, how long do the vows last again?". The talk in the car with MeChelle and the planner was gross - yes we all know couples have sex on their wedding night but going from we can't kiss or front hug to "Gee, why do you want to leave the reception quickly, wink, wink" is a little much coming from them. I am not buying Jessa's comment that she and Ben thought about a courthouse wedding and Joy might have wanted that too - there is nothing in this world that would make me believe that JimBob the control freak would ever let one of his precious girls get married anyplace but a church, no way. As usual the best part of the show was the kids, Spurgeon is adorable and I hope they never break him. The cup throwing was so normal for his age. A regular parent would just tell their kid no and teach them we don't throw things; wonder what evil the child is willful and satan is among us spin Derrick would have put on it. Hank is looking cute and healthy even Israel is a cutie. Please stop asking Jinger and Jer when they're popping one out - they looked like deer in headlights - Jeremy's answer was VERY evasive, a sort of "well we love our nephews and nieces" reply that sounded like a roundabout way of saying we like kids from afar that we can play with and give back when they scream. Keep firm Vuolo's we're on your side on this one. Next thing I want to see is Jinger wearing pants on the show, bonus points if she wears them in the TTH!
  15. I love it ......................I would pay to see his reaction to their win!
  16. I saw that. With everything going on in Texas you'd think they'd have other priorities then releasing that (not that releasing it at any other time would be any better. I think this was the best response; it's from James Martin a jesuit priest but pro-LGBTQ. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/acts-of-faith/wp/2017/08/30/seven-simple-ways-to-respond-to-the-nashville-statement-on-sexuality/?utm_term=.ca00614a8f10. I re-tweeted his first point because I strongly agree and like how he phrased it............... but I also follow Jeremy on twitter so not sure if he'll see it or bother blocking me for that.
  17. Wow, just saw it on line and hopped over here to see the reactions. Probably shouldn't be surprised at all (and please don't let this start the "what's wrong with Jinger talk - she's the only one of the marrieds whose acting normal at this point). Here's the People article. I'll admit the announcement photo is cute however this quote from Joy is gag inducing: “I have a lot of good memories of my mom teaching us and the quality time we spent together, and I’m really looking forward to doing that with my own children" MEChelle? I'll give her the teaching; I'm sure they believe that the school of the dining room table was an actual teaching/learning experience but I can not fall for the idea of Michelle being the warm fuzzy "quality time" type. http://www.msn.com/en-us/tv/celebrity/joy-anna-duggar-is-expecting-her-first-child/ar-AAqZh1B?li=BBnbfcL
  18. I'd like to hope so but I have trouble believing that Derrick can "learn" from anyone. He's proven himself to be a sanctimonious know it all; he's happy spouting off on social media about all the things he wants to object to because his bible reading told him so AND he's been a "missionary" in two countries now. I think he believes he already knows it all, if he put aside his ego for 10 seconds he might learn a little something even from a vague or scammy school but he's above all that (in his own mind). My two cents on the whole thing is it comes down to this holding them back: Jill & Derrick Dillard Not Missionaries . I'm very sure if we could put a thought bubble over Derricks head with info straight from his brain it would read "I am fully qualified missionary because I read my bible every day and I say so. But stupid bureaucracy is in my way. I'll lower myself to go to school but I could teach the course if they'd let me. When I'm done with this bull I'll go back to what I was doing before and this time they'll just have to fund me because I'm already the most perfect missionary the world has ever seen"
  19. Always knew Jeffs was a perv but I feel like this episode really hammered it home. Those pictures with his "brides" - half his height, less than half his age snuggling against him, then the picture of him kissing one which is so disgusting I don't have a word for it. I sincerely hope Isaac is/was able to get any help he needs to live a really free life; but that would include facing how bad his father really is which has to be tough after also having your Mom taken away. BTW - it was also disturbing to hear Isaac call his parents Mother and Father over and over. Such formal titles and said in such an odd tone of voice. This would be worth re-visiting after he's been out a year or so if he's willing to sit down and talk about what progress and change he's made.
  20. Maybe a little too current and an obvious choice but I still like it: Mr and Mrs Dursley, of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much. And then the murders began.
  21. Curiosity meant I had to search out the school and see what it was; this was under their FAQ section: The cost of the program includes: one international mission trip, two North American mission trips, program fees, housing and utilities, tuition, ministry mentoring, and customized ministry tracking. It does not include food, insurance, transportation, and miscellaneous personal needs. I see three choices; Pure grift and he never finishes the program (donation money never accounted for), He half-asses the program because the "school" let him enroll for the publicity and they don't hold him to the same standards in which case the mission trips may be modified OR he's all in, full student, full participant. That's when the Jilly coping issues really start. One toddler, one baby, traumatic birth a few months ago, not the most mentally stable person to begin with. Now her husband is going to say he's off on three mission trips in the course of a year each likely to last weeks? I anticipate a lot of help being required and it comes in the form of Janna (if they'll let her out of the TTH) and JoHannah because Jill is not going to stay on her own; wouldn't be surprised if she actually moved back home each time he goes off on a mission trip.
  22. The people on either side of Derrick look like they're ready to give the secret military sign for coercion if they could just raise their hands up to be in the camera shot.
  23. IIRC: Keith was supposed to go to the Russian border with Johnathan, JH thought it would be safer being so far from port if there were two boats watching each others backs. Keith was all in with that plan up to the last minute when he told JH he'd changed his mind and was going to fish on regular grounds. Once they started catching good numbers JH didn't think Keith deserved to know because he already had his chance to get in on that. That was episode 1 so I might not be remembering the whole story exactly right but pretty sure it boils down to JH thinking he doesn't owe Keith a second chance when Keith bailed on him and the Time Bandit had to go out alone. If that's how it went I don't think JH minds if Disco shows what the real catch was - I guess Keith would have figured it out anyway when he found out the TB caught their full quota.
  24. Anyone have info on their security guards? I tried searching and got bio's, facebook, twitter etc for the girls but nothing for security. Just becoming curious if they're volunteers, do they have background with FLDS or cults or do the girls hire them (and if so how do they pay) or are they provided by the network as part of filming. Don't get me wrong - not complaining about them at all................they seem to do a good job and certainly come in handy - it's just general curiosity about how they became part of the escape team.
  25. Bear - "Put a flammable stick in the sap filled bullet. Mr. Sigma - "Are there inflammable sticks in the bush?" Noah helped Matt in the hospital but then bought a Camero (with what money?) and drove it to Cali but Matt flew there but the other three are still in B-Town arranging to ship things back that Noah could have also taken in the car but that was nine weeks ago or the accident was nine weeks ago or it took Noah three weeks to drive because he keeps rebuilding the car (with what money!?!) and my head hurts! Noah - You do not speak engine but I do believe you hear things others don't. Actually I believe Matt has that same problem (multiplied). And no your car was definitely not 180 degrees inside. About 120 dry air short term is as much as humans can manage (about), lower if it's humid and even lower when you're in a car wearing an 1800's cowboy/stage driver outfit. Bear checks the "wound" on Matt to make sure once more that the viewers know it all happened for reals and it happened in the bush - viewers are thinking "Well, I see....scalp?...guess that proves it." Billy - Well my wife's been getting care here, they have a treatment plan and all her medical records, they know her full history and have established a relationship with her; guess the only thing to do is start that treatment in Cali then pack up and go to Colorado. Makes sense (said no one). Why is Ami agreeing to this? Is Billy a modern day Svengali; he looks her in the eye and she agrees to whatever bone-head plan he gives her? Maybe we're exempt because his power can't go through the TV screen? Either way is this a set-up for next season? And on this next part I can't snark anymore...........will it be Ami's comeback after successful treatment; will it document her final days (there are rumors she's now stage 4) or worse will it be "the next chapter" showing how the family goes on without her? Or do they just pack it in and end the show as they probably should?
