  1. Seems like most offices I've been in. You work kinda well together, but they are certain people you are closer to and would be friends with even if you didn't work there. There are also people you talk to only because they work there. Yes, you may go out to the group happy hour or on a staff retreat and have fun, but you're not calling them up on a Saturday night to ask them if they want to go bowling.
  2. His accent sounded a bit like a Baltimore accent. Maybe I’ve seen too many episodes of the wire.
  3. I would wear what Whoopi did with some alterations. Make the sleeves cap sleeves starting from the shoulder, and if the volume was toned down by 500%. I like the print. I think if it were cut to tea-length and de-poofed, it would be a funky little number.
  4. I get it, I don't like to be on display when I cook. I am a bit of an introvert, so when we are entertaining, I like to be able to escape to a place and just have some quiet. People will naturally wander into the kitchen anyway, but I can shoo them off if need be. I like the kitchen being connected to the dining room for ease of transport, but outside of that, give me rooms, give me walls, leave me alone! lol
  5. There is some truth to it...lol. I've worked with people from all over the world and there is always X time. The students from Central Asia had Central Asian time, the African students had African time, etc. At orientations, we would always have to tell them that if they made an appointment with their professor/anyone that they should be on time since that is expected in the U.S. I'm from the Caribbean, and there is definitely island time. I literally give my family a two hours earlier time whenever I invite them over for anything.
  6. I am writing in defense of "pretentious" accents. I have this theory that people who are good with languages are also good at taking on regional accents once they've been submerged in it a while. That has happened to me twice in my life, and I never tried to take on another accent. With time, your most recent accent gets watered down. Some people have an ear for language, some don't. I had a boss who was born and raised within 10 miles of me, and left the area for a number of years without his accent changing, and co-workers found it hard to believe that his accent was my native accent. It was. Just read this, and while I think some accents are put on, I think it can happen unknowingly. Whenever I am on the phone with someone from Ireland, my accent becomes Irish. I've had to make a conscious effort to not do it, and it still happens. I've spent about 3 days in Ireland, worked in the US with folks without Irish accents. It's like my brain short-circuits or something.
  7. I know there are some horrible teachers, but the parents/kids sometimes have way too much power. I was an in class tutor in east Harlem in nyc and made a comment to a student I was working one on one with. I was trying to get him to apply himself. Dude started threatening to have his mom come to the school and have me lose my job, etc. I explained what I meant and he got it, but that experience made me not want to teach in the public school system.
  8. There was an episode on ION last night where this doctor injected the reporter he had been having an affair with with SARS. He and the reported had a son who caught the virus and eventually died. The wife in that episode, my word! No words actually. I mean, I've seen this countless times, but she is so cold and ruthless. Anything to keep her man, right?
  9. Thanks! It was the only wedding I missed :(. I serious hope the two hours was only for the premier. Some of us are old. I dont think Ambrias dress fitted her properly. It wasn’t the right dress for her. I don’t know what her mom was thinking. I know not everyone drinks, but I have bad thoughts about a dry wedding. Bad ones.
  10. Who won? I made it to about 10:25. This show doesn’t need to be two hours, or friends. I want a show that’s just strangers throwing major shade. I don’t need the menses. TLC, get your shit together! I don’t care that these girls have met in college or that two of them are in the same bible group or about their mommy issues. I want to see weddings! Weddings and shade! I don’t ask for much.
  11. Didn’t they also appear together in the episode with Jackie what’s her face? This was during the Branch years. She was a makeup mogul. Her defense was the hormones made her do it? I think there was another episode as well. Brain like Swiss cheese, but I think it had to do with the sociopath kid.
  12. Preach! Half my family thinks he is funny, when I call him misogynistic, they look at me like I’m crazy.
  13. Was this the one with the 170k budget? I can’t remember names. I saw one recently and it was my realtor who was their agent. I asked her about it and she said hey filmed earlier this year.
  14. that Comeback Barack was 150% Boyz II Men, down to the cane. I remember all the videos those were based on. Ah, it was such a different time then.
  15. Yes, that one! I should know Subaru doesn’t have a third row!
  16. I know this is probably 3 million years old, but I love the car commercial where the family is driving across America with the grandfather’s ashes. The opening scene with the widow talking and holding the urn, to the use of Simon and Garfunkel. Just so sad, made me rediscover that song and the beauty and sadness in it. Was it Subaru?
  17. I’ve been watching the marathons when I get the chance/ when the toddler lets me, and I must say that my favorite cop pairing is Briscoe and Green. They just seemed to like each other as people and didn’t have the sometimes antagonistic relationship as others did. Neither of them ever really tried to take the moral high ground. Watching them makes me wish we had more episodes with them. I imagine how cutter would interact with Lenny. I watched the final episode earlier this week and I‎t is such a great episode. I miss this show. Don’t mind the random capitalizations. My phone is autocorrecting to random shit and I’m too tired to keep typing I‎t over and over again.
  18. If you watched John Wick, Freemon and Daniels are in it. Daniels is the second one as well. My husband and I love spotting them in other roles. I think 85% of the cast have been on Law and Order. In regards to the show, I never did get that whole sexiest/man woman alive bs. Maybe one day there will be the kindest person alive/most compassionate, etc.
  19. I’m watching law and order now and carver has a role as a defense attorney.
  20. Stringer Bell forever! There’s a kid in my daughter’s school/daycare named Prince Idris.
  21. That’s where I watched it. Well, that’s where I watch most of my movies. It was light and fluffy and perfect for a 12 hour flight.
  22. I haven't seen the episode as yet, but I think Bow won't like anyone that Junior brings home. Junior is to Bow as Zoe is to Dre. Monopoly is my game. I play to win. Last Christmas, I played with my husband and the inlaws. My husband and his brother bowed out after they saw how cutthroat is was between my SIL and me. She got angrier and angrier as the night went on. I won, of course. No one likes playing me in monopoly.
  23. There are a few places that are not as damaged, but they are not as easy for Americans to get jobs as it would be in a U.S. territory. I grew up in the Caribbean and still have lots of family there and everyone is on pins and and needles as these hurricanes come through. I would hope the house hunters had hurricane insurance.
  24. With all the talk of working the corners and not using the product, I thought I was watching an episode of The Wire.
  25. Why did they need all that space for just the two of them? It just seemed so weird!
