To be fair, we did get Marty's reaction before the shot. Jonah was done before he took the shot.

Faux Life: Things That Happen On TV But Not In Reality

I saw it in syndication. I didn't think anyone watched it. I think that's the only cop show I watched. I usually paired it with Regenesis which no one else watched. -
I didn't think Marty did so good as the cartel boss when he went down there. I thought that was the point. Camila ran circles around him, and he killed the wrong guy. Then he spent the entire time auditing everyone. Which he is good at.

Did nothing happen in the first four games of the Finals that they skipped right to the fifth game? It was 2-2! There had to have been some drama to tie up the series. I didn't realize that Kareem didn't even travel for Game 6. Figment Larry Bird has a point that everyone does want to see Magic and Bird in the Finals, but beating that 76s team is no joke either. Beating them in Philadelphia wasn't nothing either. I mean, Doctor J, of course, but you got someone called Pops and Chocolate Thunder. That's no one to mess with. I liked real Bird being riveted to the game too, and then getting out there to practice. The scene in the car with Kareem and Magic was well done whether it happened or not. I liked how Kareem, Magic, and McKinney all came to the solution for Kareem being out was to put Magic at center. I know real West is not happy with the portrayal, but West agonizing was entertaining. I also liked that we finally saw some basketball. As much as I like the show, I would have liked to see more balling. I'm always impressed how the scoring then is about the same now, but they weren't shooting threes. And I like the game now too. They certainly made the game dramatic! The callback to the McKinney miles was well done. The sound cutting out when Riley gave rookie vote was great timing. I'll tell you what though - you get smelling salts - you ain't just all groggy shaking your head. You're up like a shot. A quick google shows that CBS actually convinced the writers to switch the MVP to Magic, but there's nothing that turned up Magic knew that. I said the same. Sure, she's more qualified than the brothers, but none of them are qualified to be treasurer and vice president. Jeanie did have good ideas, and someday she'll make a good exec. Claire is, earned, and deserved it. I liked that Claire wasn't all emotional about it either; she looked that the paperwork and asked for a raise. I just finished, and right before the last line, Buss is talking to the camera about 'still having some money in the bank and a new line of credit'. That could have been it. Really the Lakers aren't "The Lakers" until the face offs with the Celtics, so if I'm running the show, I'd combine 81-83 in the next season and keep 84 and on for a third season. The Lakers lose to the 76ers in 83 after beating them again in 82.. I don't think you want to push the rivalry to four years from now. Keeping one NBA season per tv season isn't going to work because the 80s is an entire decade. It's weird because 84 is really the Celtics story and Bird finally gets a win against Magic. It takes them half a decade for the Celtics to finally overcome the 76ers to face them, and the Lakers had been in the Finals by then all but one year.

To Malva. iirc he said it when he wanted his precious milk and she forgot to churn it or whatever because she was helping out Claire. He went to beat her but couldn't because of his hand, and that's when he went back to Claire to ask about getting the surgery.

I wonder if they only got like the first two in advance like critics do. They're all certainly entitled to their opinion probably moreso because it's their lives, but the Kareem centered episode was really good insight into Kareem himself. To be fair, Kareem irl was notably salty to the media to be generous, and imo the show went out of its way to show why Kareem might be a touch angry. I wonder if he saw the scene with show-Kareem and Earvin Sr. It was excellent. They've showed Kareem if nothing to be really thoughtful.

After a fairly pedestrian Outlander finale, Young Ian once again wins the day. Don't shoot him! He knows where Claire is! Young Ian - So do we, uncle.
-
That's what I thought Outlander was going to be. I mean, the guy from Battlestar Galactica developed the show. Time travel? Scotland? Nooooope.

However it shakes out, they both have to be complicit to some degree, else the show isn't playing fair. I'd have a hard time buying Allan did the slicing because that just isn't an emotional way to murder, and he's been nothing if not emotional. I won't complain though if they explain it well enough. I mean, we've been paying careful attention and discussing this at length. We've done our part as viewers. Although it's funny because there's all this drama from Jamie basically just going 'You're saying I did what now? Noooooope!' If he actually just took the deal, none of this happens. It would be great if they did an entire flashback and we get to see what actually happened. I have to say, I'm impressed with the show that I do have some anticipation for the show again that I hadn't had in a while. Didn't he even say 'you have the devil in you like your mother.'?

But he will solve the murder, by his own rules, even if they take the gun and his badge. Because now - It's personal.- 8.4k replies

The murder was definitely cold and had to have been premeditated, not like a fight or heat of the moment like you said for sure. However, this is the 1770s. This is a totally different paradigm, and a modern lens doesn't apply. She named Jamie because he was in the highest position to care for the baby who she also peeped starkers in the barn, so she could describe what he looked like. Naming a peer, who? Young Ian? He's an 'Indian'. The church guy? He didn't look like much. Some rando she did down at the river doesn't work tv-wise because it would have to be someone we knew to have any dramatic impact. I would think naming a peer would force marriage, as Young Ian was willing to do. That's not really great if the alleged dad is some schmuck living in a shack. Additionally, no way Tom would want her marrying an 'outsider' even if everything was above board. It's plausible that she told Tom and Allan she really didn't know who the father was (which probably resulted in a beating) and Tom came up with naming Jamie, gambling that Jamie's 'honor' would just kick in and he'd play along. Besides, at the time, no one would really blink too much that Jamie had a sidepiece and a resulting baby. They said as much on the show. She names Jamie, she doesn't have to worry about marrying and she's taken care of. The baby is also legally protected as Jamie's. If it's not Tom who murdered her, then who did it? We know it's not Claire or Jamie, both of whom are reasonable suspects. The whole current drama is that Claire is in jail for it. Tom clearly knows she didn't do it based on his behavior. I don't think it's Allan especially if he's the father. Anyone else would have to suspect they're the father. It's not Young Ian. The church guy? That's plausible, but lacks and dramatic payoff. Tom is the judgiest of the lot. Remember he was making a huge deal about whether Malva had time to pray for absolution because he didn't want her to in comparison to flying off the handle accusing Claire. Allan was accusing her and all emotional. I think Tom was hoping the whole thing would just end up being ignored because it's so distasteful, but the other busybody called the 'committee' and now he's like, 'uh oh'.
-
It is, but I think the point was that both shows happen to feature it as a major plot point on the same night.
-
I don't think I'm alone, but the brother was the one of the first suspects on my list for many of the previously discussed reasons over the board. They established that Malva was sexually active (not a big deal, but back then not the same), so, yes, it could very well be Young Ian or the guy from the church that Roger found. tbh, if they never solved the parentage, I don't think it's that big a deal. Clearly, who killed her is because the show has to clear Claire. The family treated Malva as even less than a second class citizen. Given the fisherfolk never really integrated into Ridge society and remained rather insular, Allan being the father isn't ooc. He's not a bad looking guy; he could have 'courted' any of the young Ridge women but he never really was around. What did it for me was 1 - he was way distraught at the murder scene so I think he didn't kill her, and 2 - same at the church for the funeral ceremony. I personally think Tom killed her because she wasn't his daughter anyway, and he never struck me that he thought Jamie was the dad for real. I think he gambled on Jamie taking responsibility to save face all around, and when that fell through, he didn't want the 'family shame' of her being around with the baby out of wedlock. Now, that doesn't necessitate he knows who the father is. Given his protectiveness to Claire in this episode, he knows she didn't do it, and I don't even think he called the safety committee. I mean, just tv-wise, it's either we'll never know, or it's Allan. I think the show played fair on this that I wouldn't call out on either outcome. The murderer has to be either him or Tom though.

Wow deep cut for the Gere and Miller Lite joke. And they got the whole caulk bit by too. I liked the episode, but they threw in a lot. The joke about sex was just out there. Eisenhower. The whole mountain of clothes with the Canadian stripper was outstanding. I don't know why they were eating soup.

I liked the sepia tone of the flashbacks. Why didn't Bob use a mixer for the whipped cream? There was a quick you might miss it - When Teddy was talking about his tatted up mom, two customers were leaving and gave a Linda a quick wave and she waved back while she was talking. Callback to Gene's Ken. I'm surprised the kids didn't enlist Teddy because they actually get on well with him, and this is something he'd be totally up for. Nice change that Louise was actually reasonable.

Danny Vroom. Brilliant! I like the callback to the first episode of the show when Ham said he was gay and they said they knew. This was a little too wacky for me. I like that the show is eccentric, but a bankrobbing cousin is a bit much. tbh, I think the cousin plot kind of clouded what was a really good vibe about Ham coming out.

In the doctor's office there was a poster saying 'Peanuts can kill', but the peanut had a fedora was brandishing two guns with a really mean face.

Part of it strikes me as just derivative drama - there has to be conflict with the characters. However, that's not really true. There's plenty of drama to be mined getting the magazine off the ground as kind of legit porn; in the Playboy sphere, if you will. It's also TPTBs wanting to have their cake in bed. Writing-wise Doug has been 100% behind Minx since the start, almost really despite Joyce. It's not a knock on Joyce because it's her content that's being read. And that's great validation for her ideas. Which they also wrote. They have them essentially at odds for no reason.

On music, I also want to point out the technique of opening the show with a whimsical or silly song, typically with characters that have never been on before for a long drawn out scene of them doing banal things that's only tangentially related to the current goings on of the show. Sure, foreshadowing is good, but the technique itself is played out, and to get to the payoff itself always takes too long. It's never to move the plot along. On a 45 minute show, it's upwards a chunk of 10% out.

Maria M being the morning news anchor is just funny because she saying such nonsense so cheerfully. Donnette make your brown eyes blue was a deep cut too. Was that full frontal Myers though? I did like the monologue on the internet from Baldwin. -

No, he solved 'cold fusion' which they needed for climate change. -
They were trash for sure. Who knocked her up and killed her is really the only narrative of the season. I'm interested in that resolution. Young Ian was more interesting from an overall series perspective because we've all watched him for so long.
