  1. The street piece on the 'bro' endorsement was really funny just to see who people think are famous and influential. I think they were right though. If LeBron endorsed her, it would be huge.
  2. How did they all know so fast?
  3. That's what's ironic. Cable was billed first as 'no ads!' Then there were ads. Then streaming. No ads! Now all the packages have ad tiers and it's full circle. HBO is selling off a lot of their content to ad supported platforms.
  4. I thought the whole point of streaming was that smaller, niche shows would have a change to breathe because they're raking it in from subscriptions. So you could still get a final shot at a second season. I mean, D+ ain't hurting for the cash. Come on. That's the whole reason I signed up for the streamers. If they're just going with the low tier, ad supported model, and the show isn't selling the ads, then it's no different than the networks. So why am I going to bother checking out a new show? I'm fine just watching movies.
  5. If anything, I got to see the movies with my friends in the theater when we were old enough to smuggle booze in. I saw ANH first in the drive in when I was four.
  6. The entire first movie was set up. I'm saying they could have optimized the character beats with the sweeping vistas a little better. And something like Jessica giving away the water is set in Arrakis anyway.
  7. As much as I like to talk about Star Wars, that's probably the reason.
  8. Mapes had a bigger role in the books iirc. They also left out the scene of Jessica giving out the 'leftover water' or whatever, when the Harkonnens sold it, or something like that. They really missed a lot of those small things that could have showed why Leto inspired such loyalty and why Stilgar was more amenable to them versus the Harkonnens. They never even said why they were centuries long enemies.
  9. "You want me to kick her?" *silent nod* Kind of your own fault, Amy. I know Amy dropped the kids off for plot, but she could have left them with Bender and Fry. That would have been funnier. That really took a turn.
  10. They still could have made the Baron really gross though. There's an actual reason for it.
  11. I like how Moon and Louise Belcher both say 'mother' or 'father' when they're trying to act all innocent. This was a little too sitcommy for me. Moon is a child. Just because you know a lot about animals doesn't mean you're big or strong enough to handle an eagle. Beef was also equally dumb with the eagle behind him. Beef not knowing wildlife safety just is ooc for me. The whole Ham plot was just silly. The yeti was behind the pickup! There's only one death card in the pack though. I liked the second one a lot better. You get a good school prank and Beef ice fishing. I liked all their antics from the past. Honeybee not talking isn't going to work. I can sit while someone else is talking, but then I'll start eventually. Actually, it would be Leia, Honeybee. Come on. That's a bad miss. Sorry, it's soup week.
  12. Uh oh, Gail. Gayle. I liked that Bob had so much more free time from his electric grinder to make breakfast and be fooled by the kids that they're actually going out for an envelope. That stunt looked cool though. They got the original singer for the ending song?!
  13. I could buy just-in-the-suit Vader hating what he became that he didn't want to look at himself. There's a lot of self-loathing there. Say what you want about the Kenobi series (and I loved it), but it clearly showed a Vader fueled by hate. If we retcon, Vader told Kenobi in the series that he (Vader) killed Anakin Skywalker, so the young version of the ghost was the Anakin version. And now he's got an eternity for therapy.
  14. What's ironic about that is there is actually tons of good shows and movies out there now. Just statistically, the best and worst ever are just over 4% of everything. It's like you have to give the Uber driver 5 stars or they get whacked.
  15. And resurrecting for Part 2. I forgot from Part 1 - Why was the Baron 'big' (lack of a better word), and not all diseased like in the book? There's a canonical reason for it. iirc, Stilgar was interacting with the Atreides a lot by the time Jessica and Paul fled into the desert. I remember that being critical to Stilgar realizing Leto wasn't quite the same as the Harkonnens. Gurney helping him in the desert with one of the Fremen was a pivotal scene. I think you could have still done that and still had Tabr being all up in arms. I think they could have leaned more into Mahdi in part one. It seemed kind of out of nowhere, where in the book it was a running thread as soon as Paul got there. Although from what I got, it seemed they were trying to deconstruct the messiah myth somewhat a modern audience since by now it's been done so much. I liked giving the Fremen more diversity and character than in the book, so I can buy it. Also, Chani is more front and center, so it makes sense to see the KH through her eyes. I did enjoy all the wormwalking. I'm really glad they showed the Usul scene. The miniseries skipped it and only went with Muad'Dib. I would have liked a 'Tell me of the waters of your homeworld Usul' though. Muad'Dib's first sandworm riding scene was fantastic. I'm enjoying the movies, but this was the first time I was really like just 'wow'. I don't remember Jessica being this overtly calculating in the books, but again, for a modern audience, I think it's a good take. Generally the movie is gloves off on the BG plans. I don't remember Rabban being this prominent either, but I think the casting was really good, and I like the actor anyway. I'm sorry, but Feyd is always Sting for me. The manic glee was the best. Still good casting all around. I know movies will take some liberties from books and that's fine. Dune is certainly a very dense book, and I was right up front that two movies was a good idea, and I still think so. However, I think some fat could be trimmed, I also don't think they established how essential the spice is and why Arrakis is so crucial to the operation of the galaxy. Cutting out the CHOAM if only for a quick scene was a misstep for me. I don't agree with Alia not killing the Baron. All that said, I certainly had a good time watching the movies, and I'll look forward to Messiah. If only to go bonkers for Idaho.
  16. Resurrection. I didn't want to watch Dune without being able to watch Part 2 because I knew the first part would be largely setup. I waited till they came to Max, and today, finally got around to it. I did enjoy part one here. I have read the books so I liked seeing all the beats play out. The visuals for the shields were cool. I did like the Voice too. And the thopter. Jessica was supposed to be really younger than Leto, and I did buy that. I liked that the worm was kind of kept hidden until later. Exposition wasn't clunky. Would non nook readers know what the Mentats were? I would say that in the book, Leto knew going to Arrakis was a trap. I didn't see that here. He was just complaining about how they were set up to fail. I don't remember in the book if Paul was so self aware about the prescience. I did like that when everything went sideways, Paul kind of took over. I was surprised they didn't end on Duncan dying. Because he's the actual main character. They should have ended on Chiani taking off her mask. Minor criticisms - for 2 and a half hour movie, there weren't that many character beats. I think some of the battle could have been cut back. I do miss the internal monologues too. Kynes did it once when Paul put on the stillsuit, but I don't remember any others. I think you could have done some more of that than just Paul's visions. Although, practically at the time, you don't know you're getting the part 2, so you kind of have to hedge. It was still good though. Let's see what part 2 brings!
  17. Whether you're a geek, nerd, or dork, you can rest assured that Ferris Bueller is cool with you.
  18. I'm baffled by the screeching against diversity when Star Trek was probably the OG of diversity.
  19. Out of the three 'actors', and they're all great, Longoria is bringing it for me the most. I just like 'my Mabel' because Mabel is so low key and playing off Longoria so, so dour. I don't like they're separating the trio again though. I did like the peek into the Westies and the extra clues. And Perfect Strangers never fails to delight. Neither does grumpy Richard Kind.
  20. I don't know at that point prequel Vader should have the bearing of OT Vader though. Vader still was a kid at that point.
  21. Good to see Meghan Kelly is still out there doing her schitck.
  22. Probably. Chewing someone's ear for an hour over how you're sick of the Logan-Jean-Scott triangle is completely different than screeching all over the internet about 'go woke go broke' because Jean is leading one of the missions to do whatever and actively ruining people's enjoyment of the show. That's really all I meant. I don't think anyone here is like that. I'm just making some social commentary on a topic that came up. I'm painting with a broad brush when I'm saying 'incel', and I know it's not a majority of fandom, but I feel like there's disproportionate influence. 'Nerd' back then isn't quite 'incel' now. I was pointing out nerd/geek culture is cool now and has been for a while, probably because it's easy to find likeminded people on the internet. I wish we had that back in the heydey of all those great 80s/90s syndicated shows because I was the only one watching them and had no one to talk about them with. Now, when I'm getting into a new show, I always check here to see who else is watching. Or, when Marge Simpson starts being all Marge, I know exactly who is throwing her Heisenberg hat across the living room going crazy over it. Much more fun. That isn't to say a show tanks directly because of incels; some shows just don't make it, but I think it's too loud of a voice that maybe can nudge shows. Maybe nerd in the 80s and before isn't exactly equivalent to incel, but if you watch 'Revenge of the Nerds' in the 80s, that's kind of the character traits. I mean, there was sexual assault played for laughs. I don't really remember anyone back then being made fun of for being into Star Wars or Star Trek or reading comic books. Maybe they stayed quiet about it. Now, those are mainstream. I just think it's interesting how pop culture changes.
  23. Also by the time Anakin offs Dooku, they actually fought a ton of times and he could never beat him.
  24. Patton Oswalt had a good monologue on this. I had this nerd discussion on another show thread, where I was trying to explain that nerds are not incels and the two were being conflated. Nerd culture *is* basically the culture. This is why shows like Dancing with the Stars or Master Chef, as well as 400 Marvel movies, Wheel of Time, all that. You're not regularly posting on a web site about tv shows if you're not at some level of nerd. Yes, back in the 80s, nerd meant something completely and entirely different. *That's* what incel is now. They're the ones screeching about 'woke' or 'the lore' and trying to ruin everything and spewing all over social media about it.
