  1. I have no idea what was going on in the opening, but I liked how Charles was introduced to the rest of the galaxy as "professor". Where everyone thinks Earth is a ghetto. The alien sister was a bit much with the bigotry, but I liked how Xavier basically said, "you act like a child, I'll treat you like a child." *Raise your hand* I'm glad Storm got her power back, but I don't think she needed to scare all those horses.
  2. What kind of chip did Brian get?! The chip is microscopic and you use a needle. The chip paid off though. Showing the USA goal was brilliant. So great. I always like when they do dog plots with Brian. I'm not sure stopping Jesus is the key to stopping christianity. It wasn't his fault. I thought it would have been funnier if "Jesus" wasn't actually one person but a whole bunch so he couldn't ever stop it. That said, all the jokes in the past were brilliant. You don't normally hear the Loggins and Messina version of Danny's song over the Anne Murray either. I thought maybe when they came back that the world without religion would somehow be really worse, so status quo would be preferable. I liked that it was fine. That's it? God just beat them up? I think they held back. I'm all in for an anti religion message. They should have gone to the wall and really skewered it.
  3. I think he's got too much going on for permanent duties, but a guest spot would fit well based on yesterday's monologue. "Now the jury just needs a white woman who calls herself a witch."
  4. To be fair, they did have that scene in the series. I don't think we needed more than that. Invariably, remembering the size of the book, you've only got limited tv time, so you're going to have to cut some. They could have done a little more to show Blackthorne assimilating more. In this episode, they kind of did, but I think they just needed to show him being a little more attentive overall. I don't know if they needed more of the romance, but I'm not going to argue too hard. Mariko was way buttoned up about her eightfold fence, so we're not going to see anything overt here. I thought she was clearly hot for him. They shot the scene in the tea house perfectly. She booked it out of there because she was *this close* to jumping him. It seemed to me that this show leaned way more into the Japanese characters than going with the typical White Savior, which is the right call. That's going to shove him aside a lot. Now, it's a mash of all sorts. There's still christians around, buddhists, shino. Japanese aren't 'structurally' religious like the catholics. In WWII Shinto had grown to prominence. Even here in 1600, you see Toranaga at the torii, but that's really the extent of it. There's still torii all over the place, but people don't go to church every Sunday.
  5. My state delayed an execution because they couldn't get the right drugs. So a bill was put in to reinstate firing squad, but I don't know if it passed.
  6. The jokes about Trump dancing will never not be funny for me.
  7. Richard Chamberlain was THE guy back then. He was in all the miniseries and then some. I know I watched Shogun as a kid, but I don't remember it. I'm not surprised that they would have built the entire show around him. And he was gay af but no one knew back then! Oh, I clapped for Blackthorne when he stepped up. I thought it was the best scene in the show. He didn't look so confident with the sword that he was going to do it one shot to me. I thought she stalled just a little bit. I don't doubt she would have done it, but I do think the primary motivation was to force Ishido's hand. Anyone can look up what happened. I don't think it's necessary to explain it out here either. Basically, the hand of the king killed the king because the king went nuts. That's about it.
  8. I wasn't expecting Blackthorne and Yabu just to waltz into Osaka. I thought they'd be sneaking around. I guess it's smarter to come in and pretend you're rogue. Easier to let the ninjas in too. Their pairing is as entertaining as I was hoping. I'll give Blackthorne some credit. He shut up and paid attention in the meeting. Even though he talked trash to the catholic regent. Not as much trash as Mariko was slinging around! I got your permit right here! I know they weren't going to kill her, but still. She at least shamed the other regents. Blackthorne got out of there in a hurry when Mariko said it was time to go. I don't care what the year is, no dude wants to be in the room when two women going at it. I wasn't expecting Blackthorne to step up and second Mariko. I assumed it was a ruse, but it looked like she was going to go through with it. I don't think it would have worked if she let Blackthorne in on it. I don't know. When the other guy came up to Yabu, he said, "Ishido accepts your offer, but you have to do something." I would think that was to let the ninjas in. Subcontract out the kidnapping. We know the siege of the castle working in real life. I don't know if it's going to be combined here into the show, but it actually happened.
  9. I thought she was still running as an independent.
  10. You think Lake isn't going to take that Senate seat? Isn't she running against Sinema and the other guy?
  11. I should have picked out Kroll too.
  12. I know it's not too hard to mine the comedy from Trump's daily bloviating, but I'm exhausted. I have no idea what was going on with the Gettysburg nonsense.
  13. Wow that doctor has to be the most reprehensible thing anyone ever said on the show. Was the Wyoming vegetable Gene from Bob's Burgers?
  14. I actually do think the cowboy hat guy was being honest. No one really thought Roe was going to be overturned, so voting for the 1864 law simply appeases the extreme anti-wing of their voting body. They should be held accountable for their votes, but I don't think anything will come of it.
  15. Beef still has to return the toe "when he's done with it".
  16. My tivo didn't list two episodes. Fat Bear Friend also is into dog racing. You don't see Moon on his own at school outside the family much. I like that this was the main plot. And Bethany was the culprit! Wolf was a little too wacky for me. I like that they went away from the mother-in-law being just awful and Wolf was the problem. Honeybee being frustrated was fair though. I don't like when the show goes wacky. It's stronger when it's grounded and the humor evolves from that. The resolution was good, but I didn't think Wolf needed to be as wacky to get the point across. Ham's country songwriting was excellent. Just naming things. Wolf's song was actually good. --- I never noticed that Moon is throwing a snowball at Ham in the opening sequence. I forget Beef was a dad at 19. I was going say - Cheesecake is the obvious option to chug n tug. This had to be Honeybee's biggest "BABE NO!" Chug N Tug seems like a great event. I could chug, but no way could I do shots in between. I don't know why there was a time limit on getting the rope going either. I don't get how Moon can reach the pedals. I could see him being able to drive a tractor/plow or an ATV. Auntie Dirt just steals the show. It's actually been quite a season of growth for Beef. He's hooking up. Then he got a girlfriend. Here, he goes out for a night. Ham and Judy are fine. He doesn't have to worry about them. They basically raised Moon, and he's turning out all right. Really, he's only finally moving on from Kathleen, and Wolf clearly still hasn't worked out his issues with her. That's a dense backstory for a Sunday night cartoon. Moon was supposed to be the designated driver, but he didn't need to drive to the docks. Auntie Dirt just told him to drive. That's the funny part. I like that they never said why the party animal was emancipated from his family. Just that his life was miserable, and he has to clip coupons. Nothing wrong with clipping coupons, but not a 16 y/o. She wants the toe back "when you're done with it."
  17. I'm rooting for Villa to hang on to 4th. I didn't think City would stumble, but I also didn't think they'd be able to overtake the other 2. You have to beat Palace at home if you expect to be a champion. Come on.
  18. Being a mentor would be a good take for another movie. I don't think there needs to be another reunion, and a new story would be a good direction to go. I thought the new chief was good. I'd like to see her back.
  19. I got to watch in 2017 from my yard. It was literally overhead.
  20. That was the irony of it. He fancied himself a great warrior, but he couldn't even balance himself with a sword properly.
  21. That's what I figured when I said the term wasn't lost on me. However, I think my follow on point is apt about class.
  22. That was a lot for a casual fan that doesn't know all the characters. I had to do a lot of pausing when all the names were mentioned. nbd though. I'm not complaining. The assault was wild. I was really on the edge of my seat. I don't know who the Morlocks are, but it looked like a big deal that Gambit blew in to get them out of there. Although, it's interesting that they seemed like a lower class (the name isn't lost on me) when X and Magneto are all talking about equality and 'our people'. I didn't get quite what was going on in the astral plane with Pryor and Jean, but I was wondering why Scott wasn't angling for a threesome (joking). Legit question though - Cable was running around before the attack and called Pryor 'mom'. Was he supposed to be Nathan from the future? She acted like she knew him already though. "Remember it" is just total BAMF. The show has really been bringing it. I'm a casual fan, as I said before, and it hasn't been hard for me to get invested in the characters. 90s fun - the song Magneto and Rogue were floating around and dancing to could have totally been an Ace of Base song. I totally hope that was deliberate.
  23. All right then. More reason that the catholic regents might have some naval power there. I meant piracy like there was on the other side of the world with the governments issuing the letters of marque to the Erasmus, for example, to subcontract hostilities without the governments declaring war.
  24. I don't think the other regents would have considerable forces in Osaka either. Maybe the catholic regents would have some security forces for the Portuguese. I don't think there was any piracy in that part of the world then, so there probably isn't any navy to speak of. None of them are aware of the range of Blackthorne's canon. I would think they have a false sense that the castle is unassailable.
  25. Blackthorne wanted to go pirating against the Portuguese before, and Toranaga refused his request. If they go do that, then they're drawing forces away from Osaka because the catholic regents would have to do something to engage.
