  1. Article with background about the search for Andy Samberg's mother's birth parents.
  2. If Victoria really thought the British did not do revolution, her education must have been even worse than we suspected.
  3. In case anyone here does not understand this phrase, it uses "proving" in the sense of testing, as in "proving ground." [/pedantic]

Hoping you will expand on this in the "Compare and Contrast" thread. Thanks!
  5. 3/5, one *. No cable TV, never saw "Sopranos" or the logo.
  6. She might have been depressed because of her situation (whatever it was) and got over it, at least well enough to kind to George. I guess the bottom line is that we don't know.
  7. With any of the research, especially DNA, there is the chance that something might turn up tomorrow. If the grandmother was raped, she might have developed depression or other unusual behavior. At that time, it would not be unusual for the husband to leave her or (if he had the money) commit her to an institution. Many women were diagnosed as insane for what would now be called postpartum depression.
  8. Maybe the Boston station thinks we don't really care about Jeopardy. On Fridays during f**tb*ll season they don't show it. They don't even put it on their other channel that shows sitcom reruns. Grumble.
  9. Is there a thread somewhere for discussion of the comparative (in)accuracy of the medical aspects of various medical dramas? I would like to find a show that at least tries to get it right.
  10. Maybe they are funded by the lumber lobby, and lost a lot of money because Vance cut back on his toothpick consumption? You'd think Gibbs's never-ending boat construction would make up for that, though.
  11. I once spent a week on a small ship. The first night back on land, I couldn't sleep, because it wasn't rocking.
  12. As a Gilbert & Sullivan geek "I know the croaking chorus from the Frogs of Aristophanes" and also that Ari wrote Birds etc.
  13. I have never eaten a Twinkie. They just don't look or smell like food to me.
  14. Maybe we need a separate thread for viewer discretion discussion? This will probably continue in later episodes.
  15. How many judges are there (not counting Alex)? They are so inconsistent, maybe they take turns judging questions instead of voting on each one.
  16. In some stage performances of "Arsenic and Old Lace," at the end of the play a long line of people dressed as old men come out of the cellar to take a bow.
  17. Mary, please pray to remember to look at the road when you drive. If a miracle had enabled you to see out of your left ear, you would have mentioned it, right?
  18. Browncoat, thank you for the reports. If you are tempted to include Firefly quotes, feel free! I hope you have a Jayne hat to keep you warm.
  19. Do you have Jeopardy related new year's resolutions? I guessed Stephen King. Maybe I didn't expect they would have a woman in a general Authors category, and I'm not much of a Harry Potter fan. Gotta work on both of those.
  20. 4/5 this week. We don't get Friday shows during f**tb*ll season so I watch them on Youtube. For some reason we don't see the tops of contestants' heads but it's fine aside from that.
  21. Speaking of governors, I posted a year or two ago that several governors in a row in some state (NJ?) had broken bones while in office. A news announcer said it sounded like a Jeopardy question but AFAIK they have not used it.
  22. This was just after the stupid article said, "How should I know where Nonnatus House is? I'm not a woman." So maybe he didn't know where the school was either. Stupid article. Actually I didn't remember Nonnatus House was next to a school, but I have never walked past it. I can generally understand the posher British accents, because I have heard them so much on TV, but the accents on this show are less familiar so I use closed captions.
  23. You could talk to the person in charge of the FJ contest. :-)
