  1. This week (the second episode of the Brookline, Mass., 1950s house) they revisited the first This Old House from 40 years ago. They toured the house, talked about what they had done to it, and showed (too few) clips of the early episodes.
  2. You can be glad you are running the contest and can choose the categories for prizes. If there is a "most inconsistent" category I might be in the running. :-)
  3. Thank you, Saber. They sometimes show a judge reaching through a dog's fur to feel the shape of its head or something. A French advertisement (from about 2006) about misconceptions of the movie "March of the Penguins." In France, its original title was "March of the Emperor."
  4. From a contest to invent books: "Drilling for Quicksilver" by Hg Wells.
  5. Saber5055 -- the articles I have seen about dog shows say that the judges are mainly looking for how well a dog matches breed standards. Why is so much grooming (several hours in some cases) necessary? I understand the necessity for good behavior, but not great shininess etc. adTHANKSvance!
  6. The All-Star games start this Wednesday, February 20. https://www.jeopardy.com/contestant-zone/2019/all-star-games
  7. Since they are playing so fast and loose with history already, why not change the rules and let little Vicky be the next monarch?
  8. I hope you meant astronomical. Kaley is still doing Priceline ads. Maybe Penny gets that gig as a sideline and can introduce the guys to William Shatner.
  9. Can anyone explain Moclan reproduction? If two males can produce a child with both their genes with no fancy DNA tweaking, what is a female? I would have liked Locar to leave Mocla and find a place elsewhere. We might have seen him in a future season. Providing the education and interaction that would help different species get along is probably Kelly's job, since the Union isn't doing much. It would give her something to do besides drinking with various men and worrying about her personal problems.
  10. When they say "colorful" I think of red, blue, etc. Not black, white, gray, or brown.
  11. I do not recall any mention of Klyden having a job. It might be better if he did, at least when the child is in school. Currently he may have little or no interaction with non-Moclans.
  12. Not making excuses for Klyden, but he is a civilian who probably had little experience with other cultures before he came to the Orville. Maybe the Union or the ship has a standard orientation for new people, but maybe it doesn't go far enough, or maybe Klyden could not accept ideas different from those of Moclan culture. Maybe the Orville crew could do more to help people adjust. Who played Locar? IMDB doesn't list him yet and he looked a bit familiar.
  13. You can usually watch it on Youtube the next day. Search for Jeopardy and the date.
  14. I'm having my "STFU, Trebek" drink now because Jeopardy is on rather early. You?
  15. Anyone remember when PBS was educational TV? Maybe this series is a class in how (not) to write "real people porn."
  16. Andre and Otto were sweet. I don't usually like sweet, but I liked them and hope they can find a way to deal with Otto's condition, not that we are likely to hear about them again. The Mina-Micah scene at the end would have been better if they had not spoiled it in last week's promo.
  17. I think Sheldon would consider Zack and his wife totally unacceptable to raise his child, so I'm surprised he considered it, even to beat Leonard.
  18. Is that part of the drinking game?
  19. "The Airplane Show" Bailey: [about a WKRP stunt to help save Les's life] I bet all the other stations could help. Herb: Why should they? Bailey: Well, if you were in competition with us, would you want us to lose Les?
  20. Have the writers not seen the first episode? Leonard and Sheldon might have children somewhere. Maybe Penny doesn't know, but L or S might mention it between themselves. It seems out of character for Sheldon to want to have a child with a woman who would marry Zack. Sheldon postulated having a child with Amy because they are both highly intelligent. Marissa has not shown evidence of that level of intellect. Did they really shoot that scene on the Vomit Comet?
  21. This blog from a diamond company has a brief description of diamond pipe mining: "diamond-bearing earth is extracted from the ground through the use of volcanic pipes, which are natural underground channels." I know people who commute by bike in the city, some long distances. In winter they use knobby tires for traction in the snow.
  22. Yes, in many cases I would like a lot more information. Hoping they did the detailed research even if they didn't put it all in the show. I wish they would put it on the show's web site.
