  1. You know, I really liked yesterday's (Tuesday) episode because it looked like we are finally turning things up on Peter stuff (I ff'd through Nixon Falls though) and it felt like a tense episode. I'm not sure why the writers kept Maxie's circle small with her attempted getaway. She should have involved Robert, Mac, Spinelli and any other ally (though I can see why she didn't trust Anna), instead of the harebrained scheme with Brooklyn
  2. Great programming note: For those who get WETA, the PBS station in DC, they will be replaying the 6-part landmark civil rights doc series Eyes on the Prize June 19 and 26, 8-11pm. They will then play the 8-part followup Eyes on the Prize II in July. So check your local listings if you don't get WETA to see if your PBS station will play it over the Summer
  3. Why did Black Lightning get canceled after only 4 seasons? Was it ratings (which isn't a big factor with the CW) or something else?
  4. Most interesting PBS content coming up in June (check your local listings for specific dates and times): Masterpiece: Us - Sundays, June 20-27, 9-11pm, 4 episodes The Mysteries of Mental Illness - 4 parts, June 22 and 23, 9-11pm
  5. It’s not quite obvious, but the first is a 13th Doctor adventure. Both seem to be geared at younger readers. Both are available on Amazon US and UK, in paperback and Kindle
  6. Season finale August 12 http://www.thefutoncritic.com/news/2021/05/24/catch-the-cw-season-finales-93410/20210524cw02/
  7. Season finale July 20 http://www.thefutoncritic.com/news/2021/05/24/catch-the-cw-season-finales-93410/20210524cw02/
  8. Renewed for a 3rd season http://www.thefutoncritic.com/news/2021/05/24/hbo-renews-a-black-lady-sketch-show-for-a-third-season-252511/20210524hbo02/
  9. I'm another one who's really liking this show, from Lois and Clark's relationship to the brothers backing each other up (though not their moodiness), and the plots being interesting. I'm very intrigued by Captain Luthor
  10. Except it looks like it will end on Sep 16. The Futon Critic shows that it will be preempted on Sep 9 for a NFL football game
  11. I love these shows. I love animals so it's fun for me to watch, though I'm not too keen on the bugs and reptiles. Sometimes I wonder if the zookeepers ever thought of putting the elephant, hippo and rhino calves together and see if they would play. I'm not that attracted to adult hippos and rhinos and they are dangerous creatures, but dang their calves are the cutest things. BTW, animal expert Jack Hanna, the director emeritus of the Columbus Zoo, was announced by his family of having dementia back in April. Very sad.
  12. In my view, it was likely she was replacing Eve after Kaitlyn left as another female foil for Mike. The other two daughters were mostly out of the house at that point
  13. I'll have to admit, if I could have a favorite episode of this weird show, that was the one.
  14. On Nat Geo Wild channel. This will cover the various iterations. The parent series covers the Columbus Zoo, there's an Australian version, Tampa, and a few others Secrets of the Zoo: Down Under (Australia's Toranga Zoo), Season 2 is currently running on Sundays with 2 episodes each Secrets of the Zoo (Columbus Zoo), Season 5 and Secrets of the Zoo: Tampa, Season 3 will premiere in Winter 2022
  15. Renewed for Season 2 and will be shown sometime during Nat Geo's 2021-2022 season http://www.thefutoncritic.com/news/2021/05/18/national-geographic-unveils-2021-2022-upfront-slate-highlighted-by-incredible-stories-of-adventure-and-exploration-from-best-in-class-storytellers-102310/20210518ngc01/
  16. I also wonder how well it did via streaming. SEAL Team does well when streamed so that and its serialized nature makes it a good candidate for being moved to Paramount+. So it’s probably a combination of all the things mentioned
  17. The ABC chief implied in an interview that the show’s streaming numbers were too soft, which combined with soft linear numbers likely doomed it. A show like CBS’s SEAL Team, though its linear numbers were soft, reportedly has strong streaming numbers when replayed on Paramount+, thus it was renewed and will go to streaming. Of course, it didn’t help that Rebel premiered late in the season and particularly when networks are deciding on pilots and their schedule for next season. It just couldn’t measure up so late in the season
  18. That’s too bad, you should consider it, as I believe more and more shows that would otherwise be canceled or premiere on linear will be moved to streaming. SEAL Team is reportedly a strong streaming performer so it’s saved while some other shows aren't. Plus, it’s somewhat serialized, which tends to do well on streaming, so I think it has the chance for a few more seasons on a streaming service. The move might allow it to get more serialized and perhaps more violent, with maybe some bad language, though the interview with David suggests he would want to deploy the latter judiciously I don’t know if I’ll follow it much on P+ as I got my hands full with watching shows on linear TV, but it gives me the freedom to watch when I can without filling up my DVR
  19. I actually wasn't thinking about the union in regards to Hondo, just his career in general, but yes, it will be interesting to see how the writers delve into how the union deals with Hondo and whether they will fight just as hard for him
  20. How is that motivational speaker not a cult leader? She's certainly in league with the Devil lol. The nail place dialogue was too fast for me to catch much other than the nail lady was trying to upsell services. That poor freshman trying to navigate lunch tables; the commentary was hilarious. Just why do Black women (reportedly) continue to go to the same salon when the service is not good, especially with late appointments? I'm sure there was a lot of nuance I wasn't catching with that sketch, though the perfect salon place made a lot pretty obvious that was missing at a regular place The ongoing The Event sketch eludes me as to its purpose
  21. Yet another example of the White male star not being fired but others are expendable for similar bad behavior (though we don't know what happened with Rodriguez). I dropped this show after the first season because I was appalled about Weatherly's behavior and lack of real consequences (plus I wasn't that into the show). And of course Bruce Willis and Caron tried to point fingers at Cybill Shepherd as the source of problems on Moonlighting. Caron is and/or has been a mess as a showrunner over the years, particularly with Moonlighting, yet he's managed to snag multiple shows over the years (a great example of nearly untouchable abusive showrunners)

    LFG

HBO Max "LFG is a no-holds-barred, inside account of the U.S. women's national team's ongoing fight for equal pay as told by Megan Rapinoe, Jessica McDonald, Becky Sauerbrunn, Kelley O'Hara, Sam Mewis and others." Debuts June 24 on HBO Max
  23. There will be a special episode followup to the series on June 21 https://www.hbo.com/ill-be-gone-in-the-dark
  24. "In 2013, Nigeria enacted the anti-LGBTQ law — the Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Bill (SSMPA) — and in the years since, it has been used to harass, imprison, extort, and commit violence against anyone seen as not conforming to Nigerian societal and cultural norms. The Legend of the Underground is a look at the struggle against rampant discrimination in Nigeria today, as seen through the lens of several bold and charismatic, non-conformist youth who fight to live out loud." Premieres Tue, June 29 at 9pm on HBO and HBO Max
