  1. What bugs me about the dancer storyline is the doctors saying her leg had been eaten up by the blood clots and they really needed to replace the femur or amputate, but somehow she was able to dance before that (and that dance at the hospital was beautiful)
  2. I’ve gotten through the first 3 episodes and while I like the season and the cast as a whole so far, I’m not really liking Cynthia as adult Aretha. She plays her so dully and sleepy much of the time, coming alive, somewhat, during the musical performances. It’s like she was told to play the part as downcast and quiet as possible and was too afraid to emote. The young actress playing teenage Aretha does a much better job
  3. Meerkats are always such cuties. I feel for them always having to be on alert though. I guess that instinct is hard to make go away even in safe surroundings
  4. I figured Hondo’s dad thought his cancer was worse and with his history thought it was better to leave than subject his family to him dying. I’m glad he stayed to talk to Hondo and work things out. Very good scenes with the family throughout the episode Street is worried about his mom’s health and Chris’s suggestion of going to see her isn’t a bad one per se, but at the same time, with a parent that poisonous, closure probably isn’t necessarily the best thing Nice to see Luca back. It does feel like the team is more complete Interesting case and pooh on the reporter’s boss for selling her out. Finding the mother of the young girls felt a little too easy and pat though
  5. Only this one according to the Wikipedia page. Star David Boreanaz has directed 3

There's a very interesting sounding 8-parter coming in April called "Philly D.A." where a maverick runs for the D.A.'s office and wins and starts trying to reform the criminal justice system from within
  7. Given I was only paying half attention the first time, I had no idea why Eddie was pushing it, then the rewatch revealed that she had signed up as a union rep or something (which Jamie considered a conflict of interest), so it made sense why she needed to discuss it with Jamie. But it also seemed like she was pushing him further than she needed to for no apparent reason, plus there was her apparent need to baby the late cop when he was clearly in the wrong. It was a bit of a weird storyline
  8. I think you do have to cover Ike and her past when you are doing a documentary about her life, but good God, those TV interviewers and others continually asking her about her time with Ike, what her worst day was with him, etc, were really bad The problem for people like Tina is that they inspire people with surviving trauma and abuse and rising above it. Part of the reason people loved her so much during her triumphant comeback was because she survived so much, so how do you let go of the past and only look forward while still inspiring people with your life story? The ending with an archival performance by Tina of “Simply the Best” was a great way to end I can’t believe her parents just up and abandoned Tina and her siblings like that. Tina was really a good person to let her mother back into her life when she was a widow even though the relationship was bad. What a toxic person. The doc didn’t cover the suicide of her son either, along with the kidney issues and stroke. I don’t know if they just wanted to go out on a happy note or what
  9. I’m maybe 1/4 of the way through it so far (at Tina doing the River High song with Phil Spector) and it’s both very interesting and heartbreaking. I knew her history with Ike’s band and his abuse in broad strokes but I didn’t know the finer details
  10. Regarding the officer with the sick wife, that did seem weird to me that he had to stay with her and be late to work. I can see it if there are kids to take care of, but no kids were mentioned, and I can see it if the morning sickness really laid her up, but it didn't sound like it
  11. Yeah, I was wondering that myself, including Frank having some psychological issues with loss
  12. Yes, that's what it sounded like to me.
  13. I wasn't paying full attention while watching and I ended up having no idea what was going on in the Jamie/Eddie storyline other than they were clashing over a cop's punishment. I had to rewatch those scenes with closed captions on to get what was going on. I didn't have the same issue with the other storylines. Weird It certainly seemed like there was some spark between Danny and Baez, especially why she didn't tell him she was dating. The sudden appearance of the fiancee in Baez's house holding a knife certainly made me jump a little I get that Erin is annoyed that her new boss is giving her notes (and took the job she really wanted) when the old one didn't, but this is a new boss with her own ways, so can't she just suck it up and be less touchy instead of telling the lady she works with her not for her. She's the boss! Interesting stuff Frank told the shrink. We've been seeing various things weigh on him the last few seasons
  14. It looks like HBO will be repeating Season 1 in April
  15. Episode 2 was pretty good. Did Aretha ever find her groove again as a recording artist in terms of sustained hits? I guess she got a hit with George Michael with "I Knew You Were Waiting" and got back into the public eye, but I'm not sure about her albums. It didn't seem the mainstream labels really understood how to bring her soulful and gospel performing onto an album Terrible how she got pregnant at such a young age
  16. I'm sure a lot of viewers felt like they didn't want Covid storylines in their shows after the year we just had, but for some shows, like Superstore and medical shows, it's timely, important and it works. Given Superstore's focus on frontline workers, it made sense to include Covid storylines and for the most part, I think they did a great and funny job with it, and very relatable, especially with things like hoarding toilet paper
  17. What's really sad is to read the interviews from the cast and producers who reveal they were expecting to go a few more seasons. NBC clearly made an unexpected decision (at least to the cast and crew) to cancel the show (as well as shorten the finale season). I think 6 years is a good number to stop at as I think most scripted shows should only go 5-7 seasons, but I think it could have managed another couple of seasons TVLine talks with the producers on the finale's flash forward and how it came about https://tvline.com/2021/03/25/superstore-recap-series-finale-flash-forward-explained/
  18. Spoiler stuff: Per TVLine https://tvline.com/2021/03/26/last-man-standing-series-finale-spoilers-kaitlyn-dever-eve-returning/ Kaitlyn Dever (Eve) will in the finale, which is currently in production. The finale is written by series star Tim Allen and will be titled "Keep on Truckin'". Prior to the finale, Dever will also appear in the April 8 episode, where Eve comes home and struggles to connect with her nieces
  19. Cultbox has a writeup, including pictures and video, of filming yesterday at Church of St. Luke’s and the Metropolitan Cathedral https://cultbox.co.uk/news/headlines/doctor-who-series-13-filming-at-church-of-st-luke-and-metropolitan-cathedral-in-liverpool
  20. I liked this latest episode with Kirsten in temporary charge and Mandy pretending she was new at chess with Ryan. I did figure Chuck was likely talking to the Black shoplifters to get them on the right path before he told that to Kristen
  21. Aw, that was a sweet way to end things. The old interviews were a definite highlight
  22. I've only watched the first half hour so far, but it's pretty interesting hearing things from the perspective of the various athletes
  23. And two investigations (Warner didn't find fault in the first one but said some things should be addressed)
  24. Cultbox has another writeup of the show filming at the Museum of Liverpool https://cultbox.co.uk/news/headlines/doctor-who-series-13-john-bishop-filming-at-the-museum-of-liverpool As part of the museum shooting, Mandip, John and other people were dressed in period costume, possibly from the late 1800s (ETA: That might actually have been from today's filming at St. George's Hall) Yesterday, they filmed at the Church of St. Luke, a "bombed out church" from WW2 Yesterday's filming seemed to include some sort of monster, but it's not clear whether that person was playing dress up or was actually a part of the filming Today they were or are set to film at St. George's Hall, possibly their last day filming in Liverpool. Actor Kevin McNally was part of the filming, so he's likely doing a guest role
  25. Following up on this, Deadline reports that production company Warner Bros Television has fired creator/co-showrunner Greg Spottiswood for misconduct related to the controversy with the writers https://deadline.com/2021/03/all-rise-creator-executive-producer-greg-spottiswood-fired-misconduct-allegations-offensive-comments-writers-room-1234721403/ Hopefully things will go more smoothly now with the writers and cast
