There have been a few questions about how to do stuff. So, to help out, we put some linked instructions and a link to the general questions area of the site in the pinned Mod Announcement topic.

Folks, snark is fine and we often make fun of their clothing and hair. But body shaming is something we discourage. There is a difference between noting that aging changes a body and saying that someone is worthless because of it. Body shaming is not just about Michelle because such statements encompass everyone, including people here. We know that was never the intent, that posters here are thoughtful, kind and supportive. We just wanted to point out when you say pregnancy ruins a woman's body, that comment touches home with many posters here, too. It is possible to note the physical changes without making a judgment call that is intended to devalue women (including women here) by implying her only worth is her body. We do understand that the Duggars place a different worth on women, but we do not have join them in that.

Hey folks, just a heads up. As a sitewide policy, there is no discussion of politics, so political ads, as annoying as they can be, aren't really allowed. Mostly because it's real difficult to parse the message from the vehicle and political discussions never, ever end well. Thanks!

For a second I thought I was in another topic because discussing where John David lives is surely not about the rules of the faith the Duggar's follow. Please stay on topic. If you find that the response to something, like does David live at home, doesn't belong in the topic, a simple, "Taking this to the Othe Kids topic," will move the conversation to the correct area so that those who want to post about religion and the various tenets of religion can do so without interrupting a conversation. Thank you.

This is the Jill, Derick and Israel topic. This is not the place to discuss how/why to pray. Nor is it a place to debate whether prayer is or is not valid. It is also not the place to discuss fans of the family and/or haters. It's a place to talk about the Dillards. If need be, some posts may be deleted.

My husband loves that commercial because basically the falling asleep immediately is basically me. And the snoring. Except we don't have a bed that elevates like that. He was the one that saw it first and looked for it to show me he liked it so much. Hee.

I listened to the commentary for TDW (because Tom Hiddleston is delightful) and I think it was Kevin Feige who made the comment that Malekeith is basically angry because of the Big Bang. I admit, I still giggle at that. Because it's not far from the truth--he's a big baby throwing a temper tantrum because he can't go outside and play in the rain.

I just went and deleted a whole bunch of posts that were not only off topic, they were attacking other posters. The overarching guideline for this site is Don't Be A Dick. And there were some real dickish posts of posters sniping at each other. Also, even though Ben and Jessa and the whole Duggar clan may be bring up abortion (and other politically charged topics), this is not the site to engage in a discussion of abortion because it usually ends up with personal attacks and vitriol. There are plenty of forums out in the Wide Wide World of Web (thanks My Name Is Earl) for you to bicker and attack people about that subject. But here is not one of them. I think we can all tell the difference of when it goes from talking about Ben to talking about abortion. Thank you.

I don't watch Humans, so I can't discuss what happened in that episode, but...in Almost Human they had sexbots and they were more like protitutes (and I think you had to pay to use them). At any rate, I think for me there is a difference between a vibrator or sex toy because they are tools like a hammer or a wrench. The bots and synths were created in human form to be like us and so I think the relationship changes in that sense. It's more god-like creating something in our image so that we can relate to them in a human way. And with that relationship and consent issues I'd have a problem. So, if a partner knows and is ok with seeking out comfort with a prostitute, sexbot or synth, that relationship is their own and fine. The other question of sentience and moral obligations and relations with artificial life is tangly mostly because if they're created to look like us and talk like us and relate to us the line between functional tool and a person has been really fuzzified. But I am probably deeply influenced by the Star Trek TNG episode Measure of a Man. But, no, masturbation is not cheating. We were given hands for a purpose.

This is not the topic to discuss facebook, everyone. We have a topic for that, the Small Talk one. This is to talk about the Duggars and their theology and how it compares to other religions. Let's swing back to that, please.

Folks, we have been discussing the whole how it's been mishandled and how screwed up the justice/legal system is for months. The horse, he be dead. Pretty soon we'll be reported to the authorities for equine abuse. Also, it's getting waaay off topic, too. Let's bring it back to the Duggars and the media and TLC. If there is nothing new, there is no requirement to post.
