  1. wanderwoman, that's awful!! Wishing you a speedy and painless recovery. It reminds me of when my mom was watching my then-infant son and stumbled down the last few steps (thanks to a dog again) and she broke her toe. The things we do with babies in our arms!
  2. Please keep in mind the general rule of the site: Don't Be A Dick or DBAD. This includes berating those for their opinion, demanding they defend their opinion and deliberately baiting others into an argument. This is not a debate club, no one needs to cite their sources or write a dissertation to convince anyone. No one "wins" here. Disagree and explain why but scolding and lecturing of others is not acceptable.
  3. I'm sorry we have to lock this topic, but we have asked multiple times to keep the discussion to the Duggars in the Media. While we would have liked to be able to talk about whether TLC should keep airing the show, sadly, the conversation would turn personal and there would be sniping. There have been too many reports about this and we're going to give this topic a beak overnight. Please take the time to remember that people are allowed to have different views. If you disagree, don't make it personal. People are allowed to want the show to continue. People are allowed to not want the show to air again. Both are valid opinions. Take a breath. Enjoy a lazy Sunday and forget about the Duggars for a while.
  4. Ice is way, way, way scarier than snow. Also, if we know it's going to snow, we tend to not want to go out either and wait for the plows to clear the roads. While it helps to have practice, ice will make any car, including 4 wheel drive, slip. It's freaking dangerous.
  5. TIME OUT FOLKS!! This is getting way too personal and heated. There is no need to demand that someone agree with you about a character. People are allowed to see characters without defending themselves with evidence and footnotes.
  6. When we left for Disney World on May 25th, we had had some warm days and needed the AC once, maybe twice. So we closed the windows and set the thermostat to 75 so the house would be bearable when we came home. When we walked in and looked at the thermostat on June 2 it was 63 in the house. And we put our sweatshirts back on and put the heat on. It was quite a weird homecoming going from the heat and humidity of Florida to that!
  7. This is not a fan or hater site. Please do not snark people because of who they like or don't like. People can criticize or admire Felicity. They do not need to write a dissertation as to why in order persuade anyone.
  8. Clarification: please do not announce reasons why or why not people should watch the show. This topic is the Duggars and the Media/TLC. It's circling quickly back to the whether it's right or not that they should have a TV show. It's been discussed, it's gotten personal and a little mean. Please stop. If TLC needs to find their audience, they can use Nielsen. This is the third note in here today. It is the last note for today. Next option is to lock the topic.
  9. I cannot, CANNOT handle the heat. Cold? Not a problem--as you said, layers layers layers. Thank goodness I live in the Northeast so it's just a few months. I have a friend who loves the heat and humidity of July and August while I'm planted in front of the AC. I get very cranky and short tempered in the heat. It's not pretty.
  10. Ok, folks, we've let the discussion of the Duggar's influence and reasoning behind In Touch getting the lead go on for quite a while and, for the most part, it's been respectful as well as passionate. (A side note: THANK YOU! It's a joy to watch adults engage in discussion without devolving to name calling) However, we've reached the point where we are not going to change minds and started to enter circular, beating dead horse territory. Could we please move to another Duggars in the Media subject. Perhaps wait for something new to be released to the media. Thanks!
  11. As long as you tip him well, it's all good.
  12. As for the bolded part, the issue, for me, isn't their opinion, it's that they tried to legislate their opinion, religion and morality into laws that would affect all citizens be they Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Catholic or atheist. For me it comes down to they do not have a right to discriminate in a public sphere because of religion. If groups hate, be prepared for some backlash, too. The Duggars, and vocal hate spewing religious leaders, cannot hide behind the Constitution when people disagree with them. We are all accorded free speech which includes vehemently criticizing the Duggars. That last paragraph? Agree entirely. Spot on. I would love to see their faces if someone dared make that comment to them. As in, I want a video because I think Michelle's eyes would actually pop out of her head.
  13. While I agree that young people are still developing and should not necessarily be continually punished, it's a bit much to make Josh out the only victim here. If anything, his parents threw him and his sisters under the bus. I sincerely hope he has changed, but he also portrayed himself as a mouthpiece for virtue and family life knowing what he had done. Unfortunately, his parents have portrayed him as the victim. I understand not wanting to chuck one child to the side--I could never abandon my son in a similar instance--but he for dang sure would be getting treatment. And I wouldn't brush it off as no big deal. If anything at that age, parents should be trying to instill the idea of responsibility and taking ownership of one's actions and words. The law and courts are even starting to try juveniles as adults which may not sit well, but there is the idea that they know right from wrong at that point. Just because it happened when he was a juvenile doesn't mean he can't discuss it now as an adult and what he learned from that. I think that's why I'm not sorry the report was released, even if it doesn't seem fair. He could have taken this and made it better and actually shown how he has overcome his demons. We haven't heard Josh speak yet. I would hope he would admit he was wrong and that his parent erred by covering it up and not handling well. And now, as a parent, he would not behave in the same way. Take the moment and actually do some good by showing how it happens to across all types of families and not dealing with it makes it worse. Instead we get I'm a victim and it sticks in the craw. I think it's really disheartening to make Josh a victim out of this just because of the age when it happened. It seems to brush aside the people that were targeted and seems to make an excuse that it's ok because he was younger.
  14. Folks, it's starting to stray a little in here. It's alright to talk about Jill and her learning style in here. But if you'd like to talk about other families, please use the Sweet Fellowship topic. Thanks!
  15. Folks, it's starting to get a little heated in here, and it's not even about commercials. Let's stick to getting irritated with the commercials and not each other. Thanks!
  16. ::HUGS:: I'm so sorry that you have had to bear such unbearable pain.
  17. Folks, can we get a cease and desist on the legal speculation. This is a reality show, not a courtroom drama. We haven't seen the documents so it's hard to say for certain what is actually happening. Much like the language, it's a such touchy territory. Let's not get into too much. Thanks!
  18. PTV did not get Derick's email. A poster here posted an image of something that may have been his email and it was removed. Talking about what you find is maybe ok, though we really don't encourage the whole cyberstalking here. No posting of addresses or pictures of houses or pictures of someone's email. Posters are free to dig around the internet and say they found something but remember just because you can find it doesn't mean you need to disseminate it. Others can find it on their own.
  19. I don't think Rhondinella would mind me answering for her. Personal stories and impressions of religion could most certainly be discussed (with the requisite being very respectful of other's viewpoints etc) in the Small Talk area. Talking about how religions operate especially vis a vis the Duggars and Fundamentalism. (I am by no means a religion scholar, so I'll let Rhondinella that sound better than it does.) Hope that makes sense :)
  20. UPDATED GUIDELINES AS OF JUNE 9, 2015 We’re updating the pinned guidelines as things have settled a little. Discussion Guidelines Don't be a jerk. That's really it but to be specific on some past pain points there are these guidelines (which have been serving us well so far) and we appeal to your better angels to continue to follow them: Don't be gross, there are real people involved. Be respectful of the victims and mindful of fact vs conjecture. Don't speculate about the specific identity of the victims. Yes, we know most of them were his sisters and that's more than enough for us to know. Don't speculate about whether Josh was behind further abuse, whether he was abused, who else might have abused someone else, etc. Don't lecture, scold, or snark on your fellow posters As posting has resumed normal levels, we will start resuming our normal mod activities which include contacting posters with posts that are either not following these guidelines or any that may be inflammatory or problematic.
  21. Please follow the updated posted guidelines. Also, keep the following in mind for this topic: Please do not psychoanalyze Josh, his sisters and his victims. We cannot know why he did what he did, and we cannot define his victims and how they respond. Please do not speculate whether he continued molesting. This includes insinuating or implying that he may molest his children. Please don't speculate whether Josh is capable of self harm.
  22. Don't speculate about identities or additional abuse. Please don't speculate about whether Josh will self harm. Don't lecture, scold, or snark on your fellow posters. Posts that are either not following these guidelines or any that may be inflammatory or problematic will be removed.
  23. Folks, let's be careful when discussing other's opinions and try not to tell them how to watch a show. Thanks!
  24. The box office numbers for United Passion was reported in Slate. Mostly because it did so badly. I love this:
  25. I enjoyed TWoP, and when I joined here it felt similar. I was (and am again) a stay-at-home mom to two older childre (9 and 12) so I have the time to help out. When the call went out, I volunteered. When I was on TWoP, the Star Trek Enterprise forum was awesome--they even sent me a gift when my now 9 year old daughter was born. So I have a great love and appreciation for how forums like these create supportive and lovely communities. I don't watch the show at all. I tried, when I joined up and offered to help. But I just couldn't get past 10 minutes of it. Thankfully, we don't need to watch the show to be able to moderate it, because all the shows I watch were already taken when I joined. I did end up getting a few I watch, but they're nowhere near as busy as this forum. I can tell you I learned all I need to know about the Duggars and the show shadowing my mentor in here for a month.
