The Lonely Js Club: James, Jackson & Johannah
frenchtoast replied to SpaghettiTuesdays's topic in Counting On
A reminder please don't post address information, pictures, email stuff. It's a new person to look up, but we don't need the address of the church complete with pictures and email. Those posts will be removed without explanation. -
Say What?: Commercials That Made Us Scratch Our Heads
frenchtoast replied to Lola16's topic in Commercials
There is also a bit of a joke that it could actually cost you an arm and a leg but the Taco Bell thingie won't. Which leads me to think that Taco Bell doesn't have the best stuff in their so-called food. Because, as my dad used to say, "You get what you pay for". -
In light of a recent request for a new topic, we felt we needed to clarify and elaborate about posting, so please read this most recent Announcement.

It's a lot of pattern, but she's 9 and so I let those girls and boys have as much fun as they can while they're still young. I let my daughter wear some pretty wacky, mismatched stuff because she's 10 and she thinks she looks awesome. As long as it's appropriate for school (no flip flops, won't fling off on the playground) and weather appropriate I'm fine with it. And then, when she's older, I can embarrass her.

The Other Duggars: The Lost Girls and Amy
frenchtoast replied to Ljohnson1987's topic in Counting On
Folks, we've kind of strayed from the topic at hand. Let's circle back to the Other Duggars please. -
I try very hard to not be like your SIL @Happyfatchick. It's hard, because it's in my nature to plan/coordinate everything. It also helps with my son (though he's older now and can handle the swerves better). Last year when we went to Disney, it was only my second time. The first time with kids, but they were 9 and 12 at the time. The bonus is we went with a family (that we'll be seeing this weekend, in fact) that are Disney Vacation Club members, so they arranged lodging on property. A great big multi-room with a kitchenette and laundry. But they know the parks, and we relied on them heavily. But we also discussed and agreed that we make some general plans (what parks to visit what day, what rides we'd like to hit) but that we'd also just take it easy and let it be a vacation. It was a really, really fun time. But I knew I had to reign myself in and not be a micro-manager. Also, as a side note, we went to Disney about 3 or so days after Joshgate I. It did cast a bit of pall, knowing that and watching the three kids have a good time hanging out.

Funnily enough, while the rides at Disney can be fun, there is a lot of other stuff, too. As in you could have a great time and never get on a ride at Disney.

It's starting to get a little rambl-y (I made that word up). The topic is Duggars and the Media, not the so-called Duggar supporters.

Just a reminder that this is not a debate club and no one "wins". For a refresher, check out the post from October in the Mod Announcement. We understand that for many Sleepy Hollow and the issues surrounding it are important and bring out passionate feelings. Let's just remember that your fellow posters are not enemies for thinking differently.

Congrats @ChiCricket!

Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events

(Hee. There's a furniture store near me called Cardis but it's pronounced Car-dees) -
I would love to do one of those river cruises! Enjoy it! So this was over in the Josh topic and it made me need to confess that I bought a ring set from QVC for $20. My fingers are getting too fat for my wedding band, and it's not easy to size, so I saw this in clearance and figured what the heck. This way I could have something until I get off my tush and lose some weight.

Hey folks, the talk is starting to be more about Nicole/Abbie than Sleepy Hollow in the Media. And let's remember the Be Civil guidelines--not everyone is going to agree, and that's ok. It's not a requirement to prove one way or the other. Feel free to continue in the Abby thread

Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage
frenchtoast replied to Maverick's topic in Commercials
I know it's been mentioned before but I really, really, REALLY hate that fruit cup commercial. The tone of "Oh, they're drainers" like they're so gross and are eating dog poo. I want smash the cup of fruit with syrup right in her face. Why would advertisers think people would want to buy a product with such a smug asshole promoting it? GAH!! -
Understandably there is some religion talk in this topic given the whole missionary thing, and we try to give a lot of leeway, so this is a very gentle reminder that general religion questions can be taken to the Gimme That Old Time Religion topic for further discussion. (That may be a run-on sentence for which I apologize) Thanks!

I may be remembering wrong, but I thought that there was a brief side mention (delivered by Martin Freeman) that Bucky was basically going to be held and nope, no lawyer or trial. As for actual Avengers, I think Wanda being held under house arrest and not being allowed to leave because she hadn't signed was indicative that they weren't going to be afforded the rights of representation or trial. It was sign or "retire". Or, as Steve said in Winter Soldier, "Hold a gun to everyone's head and call it protection". It could have been made a bit clearer, because while their gear was being taken away, they were allowed to wander that building. I think that was in the hopes that they would sign the Accords. I think because of the time frame, and how short it was, they were being a little loose with what was going on, and Tony especially was getting Ross to back off a bit so that he could persuade the others. But then the airport fight happened and it all went to shit. I guess I'll just have to go see the movie again. Darn. My question is--was it mentioned in the movie that Tony designed/built the Raft? Because I told my mom that and she was shocked. But I don't know if I got that from the movie or reading all the smart people here.

I saw The Jungle Book this weekend and was surprised how filled the theater was. Especially for a movie that has been out for a few weeks. I'm glad it's doing so well, and quietly, too. IOW, so much ink is spilled in talking about how much the big tentpoles bring in, it's nice to see a well done movie not get a lot of write up and still really bring people into the theaters.

It has become a competition to get to my spot on the couch. Apparently, it is the comfiest spot. Even though we re-assembled the futon and put it up in the living room so they could lay on a couch. NOPE! It's my spot on the couch that Friday finds best. And if I get there first, I get a big greyhound head at eye level going after my coffee or just standing there waiting for the petting. I read somewhere that a greyhound will make you laugh every day. I've found it to be true, thus far. What they didn't mention is that Friday will get a big drink of water, come over to me reclined on the couch, stand over me looking for love and burp. A big rumbling burp I can feel in his chest. Right in my face.

I find it hilariously fascinating that dogs (and obviously not all dogs, but all dogs that I've seen) will drink the nastiest water outside, but grudgingly drink clean water from clean water bowls. Oh, heaven forfend, a bit of dog food in the water bowls. But, sure, let's drink from the filthy puddle. Why the heck not. Gotta love those dogs.

I saw this at Cakewrecks today and even though the caption says it's Dolly Parton, all I could think of were the recent pictures of Jill Rodrigues.

For me, the hints dropped during Winter Soldier made me believe that Bucky killed the Starks. First we hear Zola talking about history, then we get two images of Winter Soldier, then we get Zola saying, "History was changed" and then we see footage/files of Stark's death and Fury's death. Given that at that point it was thought that Fury was dead and that Winter Soldier had killed him, it was easy to draw the same conclusion for the Starks. In fact, I mentioned Winter Soldier killing the Starks in the car going to see Civil War. (We also watched Winter Soldier and Age of Ultron two days before seeing the movie). It was something I had a feeling would be brought up and it was. And for my spoilerphobic husband (who wouldn't even watch the tv ads!) this was not spoiling anything in the movie. This was something that we figured would be brought up. Was it something that Steve could verify? No. Was it strongly implied? Yes, and I think Steve believed it, too. And I understand why didn't talk to Tony about it. It was painful and it wouldn't do anything to help him. Also, he wasn't 100% sure that Zola wasn't screwing with him and why give Tony any more pain when he wasn't absolutely sure and he couldn't prove it.

Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events
frenchtoast replied to maraleia's topic in Counting On
Sadly, the ability to pin posts does not exist, so it's not there anymore. There is a workaround that's being discussed. (I'm glad it's remembered though!) We would like to not accuse/speculate that a real person is committing a crime based on drips of information on the internet. We're not there, we don't have access to that information and that's a real family. Similarly, we keep away from anything that could point to their actual physical location. Speculating they're at hotel is fine. Providing an address and pictures of their house is not. As always, remember you can disagree and explain your position without resorting to nasty personal attacks against posters. Which is not happening, the posting has been absolutely wonderful. Just wanted to point out to any newcomers. -
Howard said they had to stop at the State Department or something before getting to the airport.
