  1. Good luck, Aja! Report back please! As Dumbledore said, the world needs more love. So glad you have someone special. *Puts mod cap on* Recently, I've noticed some comments about deleting quotes in a post. It was a bit tricky when the first upgrade and I had quite the learning curve. First, I'm on desktop (my laptop specifically) so phone/tablet users may be see it differently. But the main idea is in order to get rid of the quote box, hover the mouse around in the quote and a little box with four way appears. Click on that and the outline will be a solid blue if you move your mouse away from the box. Then press the delete button on your keyboard and it will remove the box and all it's contents. I just tried on my Samsung (so Android) and when I tap the left corner of a quote box, the blue outline appears and I use the backspace on the virtual keyboard and it goes away. I should note that I use Chrome on my phone and it's probably set up to look like desktop. I will also say that there have been times where it seems like the dang box won't go away. So I go to another forum and then I go back and then I can delete it. And yes, if you start typing a reply in a topic and go away from the box without posting or removing text, it will be there when you go back to reply in the same topic. Anyway, hope this helps.
  2. We've reached the saturation point where the conversation has become circular. Also, please remember that folks are allowed to see/understand points from a shows differently and that is not wrong. Nor are people required to provide endless reasons or justifications in order to persuade the other "side". Because that is how circular arguments are continued. Agree to disagree and move on.
  3. The only one I can think of was right at the beginning of Captain America: The First Avenger. There's a snow scene, and some guys are talking about how the ice is always shifting. And they rappel down into a structure and one of them says to call someone despite the time. And then we see the shield in the ice. But I don't know if that's what you meant. There's also the scene where Tony and Coulson are talking after Tony has figured out how to fix his palladium problem in Iron Man 2. But that's not ice and it's a prototype shield.
  4. I'm not spoiler tagging this because the movie has been out for 2 weeks. They're all in the lab working--Patty is listening to a tape recording. She calls them over and asks, "Who is Zuul?" (And that's it.) The show I saw on Saturday was at 10:15 AM and was half full. Maybe, I didn't do a head count. There were some problems with pacing, but overall I enjoyed it. The crowd I was with was didn't laugh as much as I was willing to laugh. Even so, I found it enjoyable and am looking forward to seeing it again when it's released digitally. The two 13 year old boys we brought with us were laughing a lot and loved it. One of them, my son, is very familiar with the original because we've watched it often. I also don't have any problem with remakes or reboots. I'm grateful I can see Ken Branagh and Tom Hiddleston play Henry V. I like that creative people can take that and put their mark on stories that they love. I'm looking forward to the next Guy Ritchie Sherlock Holmes and I was thrilled when I saw the other two. In fact, Jared Harris's Moriarty is my second favorite Moriarty. It was so good. (My favorite Moriarty is from Elementary and I won't say anything else about that) And if Ritchie hadn't remade it, I wouldn't have been able to enjoy that terrific performance. So being a remake or a reboot doesn't automatically earn a strike against it for me.
  5. Hi celiacs!! Hubby was diagnosed in 2002. I made this recipe for Christmas with adjustments. It was awesome! We tend to host the big dinners (Christmas, Thanksgiving etc) now because it's easier for me to just make stuff gluten free. But, as has been shown by everyone here, it's a very supportive and helpful community. The above was made using King Arthur's Gluten Free mix almost exclusively and it has been a great find. Hubby has not missed beer at all, but since it always made him sick (surprise, surprise) he doesn't have any really good associations with it. I don't like beer either, so it's been a delight to have cider. I loooove cider. And wine is gluten free, too. Because we have to cook a lot of stuff from scratch, we can taste the difference in processed foods. Having said that, we even found a good Chinese place that has excellent gluten free. Though at this point I prefer the gluten free tamari sauce to soy sauce. The newest challenge has come from a friend who is gluten free and vegan. But I look at it as creating a sonnet--there are rules that I have to follow, but I have a lot of stuff I can still work with and can make something fabulous.
  6. I saw a similar remark, about how the men characters are all not well developed. And I may have laughed and turned to my husband and said, "Awww, is the reviewers widdle fweewings hurt that a man is depicted unfaiwy? Awwww, my heart bweaks, poor widdle thing. Let's go gang up on those mean wadies for making you sad." Which then turned into, "Yeah, they can go fuck right off. Because I don't have any eye rolls left for that shit." We've got plans to see it this coming Saturday and I'm looking forward to some laughs and some fun. This article has an interesting point about those dumb male characters, but...yeah. They just don't get it.
  7. Because it's easy to get off topic here, just a friendly reminder that this is the Lonely Js Club. The Josh, Jill and Jessa talk can go in their respective topics. Thanks!
  8. Saw this about Ahsoka. (I still think she lived, but I can see how it was left open). After watching that last part in the finale again, it seemed to me she was alive but leaving, so the question is going where. But...I'd also like to see a confrontation between Rex and Vader. Just because In fact, my son and husband brought up that a character in Rogue One is from the Clone Wars Series, so I'm thinking we might have a rewatch in the Toast house soon.
  9. I saw this on my facebook feed this morning: Yes, please. We lose David Bowie and Alan Rickman and the whole world has gone to hell in a handbasket. I blame the Duggars. I would like to give you all a small bit of happiness though: my brother is starting to turn things around. He's sober, he's regaining his health and strength. He goes to hopefully get his license on Monday. It had been suspended/revoked? because he passed out at the wheel. His illness has required so many trips to the hospital for blood transfusions, and the passing out was due to loss of blood. His blood work and other levels are finally where they need to be where he would be safe to drive. Also on the plus side, he hasn't lost his job, it's the same company Mr. Toast works for and they've held his job during his disability (it's a year now) and are hoping to get him back. The company has been excellent to not just my brother but Mr. Toast and all of its employees.
  10. That was the first thing out of my 10 year old daughter's mouth when she saw that commercial. That and why there was no sand/dirt on that can after all the rolling around on the ground.
  11. Yeah, it's a bug being worked on.
  12. We had chipmunks and squirrels and ground hogs in our yard. Now we have greyhounds. One of them has killed 1 squirrel and 2 ground hogs. There are no more small animals in the yard. If they saw a cat, a chipmunk, a squirrel or small dog they will catch it and they will kill it. Our previous dogs showed no interest, but the two retired greyhounds we have have quite a high prey drive. I've taken to muzzling them when we go to the farmer's market in case a small dog gets loose or too close.
  13. I don't think you ever know. What you do know is that it's different with every dog, but that's what makes it so worthwhile. I guess it comes down to, do you want your buddy back or do you want to share that special relationship and bond with a dog. When we were going through the process of looking for a new family dog, I pushed hard for retired racing greyhounds. Every greyhound adopter and representative that we met said they're like potato chips, you can't have just one. For me, dogs just mean more love to share.
  14. It is what I meant. Because women internalize the idea that a woman is basically a mannequin and for criticism and judgement. In fact I would argue that just proves how deep that goes--that women so roundly criticize and judge other women on appearance, because that's all that matters. As a personal example, my 10 year old daughter is already asking me to shave her legs. Already. She already knows she will be judged based on her appearance by everyone. Though she does take umbrage when a boy said she couldn't be smart because she's a girl. Yes, he actually said she couldn't have the right answer because that would mean she was smart and she couldn't be smart because she's a girl. Speaking of dad commercials, wasn't there one where the dad was doing the cheer routine with his daughter? But ads for "domestic" (cleaners, appliances, food) products? Wasn't there a stay-at-home dad one with Tide. Even so, it'd be nice if we could see how real people use the product. On the flip side, we're supposed to want to buy it, so they create a fantasy instead of real.
  15. I don't remember how it started, but there was a brisk discussion over in the Commcerials That Annoy about men v women treatment in the workplace. To bring that more into the idea of commercials and advertisements, I read this a few months ago and it stuck with me. This especially stuck with me: I think that's the larger issue at work here--that women's bodies are for public consumption and therefore praise or criticism. As advertising has progressed, advertisers use men and women in similar roles: trusted friend, sibling, goofy. I'd love to see one with a hapless mom and a got-it-together dad though. That pisses me off to no end. Mostly because it is a disservice to men and women. But mostly men. I like to think that advertisers are getting smarter, and trying to put more relatable stuff out there. We don't want to buy a product if we can't see ourselves using it right? So that razor ad with the women emojis come to life that was pilloried, yeah...that can go eff off.
  16. We're starting to get off topic here; discussion about how men and women are portrayed and addressed in all sorts of ads, films, tv doesn't necessarily fit in a topic about irritating commercials. So, I'm going to take my response to the Class, Gender, Race Etc topic.
  17. No, not crazy. We don't know how the new dogs will react to fireworks, but the city changed the location last year from one park/field to the high school. We live less than half a mile from the high school (and middle and elementary school too). We can hear the cheering and announcer during football season. We had an obscured view of the fireworks last year, but didn't have dogs. Given that one dog seems very nervous during thunderstorms, I have a feeling it's going to be a fun night. Thankfully, the neighbors don't do it much, but we'll see as we get closer. IOW, I get your concern about fireworks and dog.
  18. A place to discuss Jinger and Jeremy Vuolo: their hopes, their dreams and whatever televised wedding plans they may have. As always, snark the people, not each other. Please try to avoid screeds about how terrible organized religion is.
  19. That's Angel Food Cake. And it's so freaking bland. I read that there's a Christmas Eve custom in Sweden to watch a Donald Duck cartoon. I can't quite wrap my head around it.
  20. This is clarification for the announcement from earlier this week. Talking about the Maxwells/Rodriguez etc when they were on the show is fine. Researching every blog post to pick apart, and by extension essentially bash, religion and their lives in general, is not permitted in the Sweet Fellowship, Gimme Old Time Religion or anywhere on this site. This was discussed not just between the mods here, but also the mods of the site. It veers too far into discussing religion and politics and has made this way past talking about what happens on the show and bit of tangential conversation. We let it go too far, and we're reeling it back in. The Wide Wide World of Web (cookies for who gets that) is a huuuuge place, with lots of places to take such detailed discussions.
  21. I think it's supposed to be camouflage. But the girly kind, so pink. Yeah.
  22. @Pixel do you mean on the homepage of forums? It means there are unread posts. I customized my homepage so I only see the shows I mod/read for fun. Orange title means it has new stuff. I haven't yet tried to make an activity stream, though it has more to do with overcoming inertia than difficulty.
  23. In the past week, there have been a few announcements about reeling this topic back to it's original intention, which is to discuss people that were on the show with the Duggars. Please take discussion of families/preachers that were not on the shows to another site. This includes Maxwells and Rodriguez. It has no place here. Posts have been removed.
  24. Let's keep this about Jim Boob and Mechelle, please.
  25. I'll join you in that oddity. I saw somewhere that people that were born in winter enjoy that cooler rainier weather. My birthday is Feb 1, smack dab in the middle of winter and it's my favorite time of year--cold with short days and sometimes lousy weather. ETA: I think it was this article.
