I love going to the library. If they don't have a book, I can put it on hold. The library offers all sorts of programs ranging for infants all the way up to seniors. It is one of the best community resources and the librarians are awesome. I gotta admit, I prefer books to electronics because I am prone to dropping things and it's better to toss a book than a Kindle. Also, I tend to read in looong stretches and I get irked when the battery dies. And I don't like the electronic bookmarks either. Basically, I'm a grouchy old lady in a 41 year old's body.

Be safe, @Tabbygirl521. I hope it's not as bad as they're saying it will be and that everyone is able to ride it out with minimal property damage and no power outages.

I wrote a mod note before the announcement of the new News and Politics forum and it got eaten. (Computer glitches even happen to mods!) With that in mind, please keep the politic discussion to what is raised on the show and minimally at that. No long winded rants about a candidate, no yelling and screaming at posters who disagree with you. Keep it to the show. The Be Civil guidelines still apply. The best thing is to not make it personal. At this point on PTV, many of you have been here for a while, and seen each other around the site on other forums and it almost feels like we know each other. Let's keep that camaraderie and good fellowship and be an example of how to talk to one another. Another reminder, there is the Ignore Feature to use when people are posting stuff that bothers you and isn't exactly against the rules. It can sometimes make reading a forum nicer. Also, if you thinks it's questionable, report don't engage. Another option is to PM a mod. I'm the mod for this forum but all the mods talk with another so the message will find the right person.

Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage
frenchtoast replied to Maverick's topic in Commercials
It's October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The NFL will be awash in pink. Ugh. (And it's not because I don't think men should wear pink, it's because the NFL has quite a few ongoing issues and wearing pink to make the public look the other way is just gross.) -
@emma675, I have a curved tv, a Samsung in fact. I haven't noticed that it's all that better than a flat picture wise. It's in our living room and if you stand in a certain part there's a weird sound effect when you talk but it's not anything that would be a deal breaker. The couches are set up facing each other and not the TV, so sitting at the end of the couch having the curve does make it somewhat easier to see. But...you have to turn your head to such a degree, it doesn't matter that much.

Oh yes, that bathroom is huge! A friend of mine always gets tickets in ochestra, but goes to the bathroom upstairs. Hee. I stayed put, though. I rarely go during intermission mostly because I don't have to. But it just seems to go on and on. It's a beautiful theatre, I love it. I find it funny when people say that it's so expensive to park at the garage across the street. $15? HAHAHA. I grew up outside NYC, I've parked in Boston. That's nuthin'. We'll gladly pay that. And yes, we got our tickets for the Family Night of The King and I, two adults and two kids for free. First Dress LC. We were in Loge Right for Wicked. Our friends loooved it!! I am so looking forward to the King and I. And as soon as we get the email that Lion King is available, we're swooping in!!

I am so, so, grateful that the GP referred hubby right away to a GI that looked at hubby and said, "I have a feeling it's celiac, we have to take an endoscopy." And he did and bang that was the diagnosis. Now, he didn't ask the doc about it until I was 8 months pregnant with our first kid and I was hormonal and worried about him dying from colon cancer. It's been an adventure since then because the docs don't help with the actual cooking/choosing foods part. There were a few books out at the time which helped a lot. But after hearing stories about bad docs and years until diagnosis, we are so grateful it was that quick and easy.

@magpye29 I don't think I caught a glimpse of you but boy howdy was it crazy full, which included the traffic. We squeaked in there, with just a few minutes to spare mostly because we were stuck in traffic trying to get to parking. Even so, holy cow was that an amazing cast! An absolutely terrific, thrilling and fantastic show. Loved it!! Sadly, my poor daughter came home from school on Friday with the warning signs of a cold, so it was full on cold for her yesterday. She still enjoyed the heck out of it, but she would have had an even better time had she been feeling better. We had such a great time, it's a great show.

I think we're either Loge or First Dress, but I'll be hard to miss limping about. HOLY COW!!! It's amazing what the body can tolerate and then just twist the wrong way and *snap* a bone is broken. That's an amazing haul @Jynnan tonnix! I have no skill or patience gardening. But I'm always a grateful recipient and farmer's market shopper :)

I would watch that :) Yeah, good ol' Stinky Butt is in high school now. Has some facial hair fuzz, too. He's taller than me and is a baritone in chorus. He still laughs at fart jokes, though.

Say What?: Commercials That Made Us Scratch Our Heads
frenchtoast replied to Lola16's topic in Commercials
Can we please take the car key discussion to the Small Talk area, please? It's starting to take over and it's not really the topic. Thanks! -
Guess who missed the step and badly sprained their ankle? This klutz! Right in front of the daughter who I sent to wake up hubby because I knew I had badly sprained it. A trip to the ER and some x-rays, no broken bones, but some ligament stuff. Got some crutches and an "air splint" which is the same boot I had when I had bunion surgery. What a day! I'm supposed to see Wicked this weekend, that should be an adventure.

And that is why we were surprised at the discussion with the lawyer. He pointed it out to us while we were doing a will, healthcare proxy, that sort of stuff as my mom was newly divorced. Of course, it could be that it's the schools here in MA that charge for it. Perhaps elsewhere they don't. I don't think there's much uniformity anywhere. But it definitely gave us something to think about and eventually look into. But the lawyer was a good one (and yes, there are good lawyers who help their clients as much as possible) and he wanted to make sure we understood that it might not be that much less than cremation.

I don't know that there is a fee for organ donors (or their families) But typically those are sudden deaths. In this instance, I was referring to my mom arriving at a natural end where the organs had started shutting down so the organs would most likely not be able to be donated. It would be donating the body in its entirety for medical students to study or to a "farm" where students could learn about different ways of decomposition. Those would cost the family. I don't think my mom and I were alone in thinking that it wouldn't cost us much or anything--it's a donation after all--but it turns out for donating a body to a medical school there is not insignificant fee for the family to pay. Some of it is for the transport and some of it is for the disposal after it's been used. I'm not sure that organ donor families are charged anything.

Star Wars Rebels - General Discussion
frenchtoast replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Star Wars Rebels
Because Chopper is an asshole. I really hate Chopper. And Ezra force compelled someone to actually take a long walk off a short pier. That's rather disturbing. Bendu is a welcome addition and I'm glad we'll see more of him. -
When my mom was setting up her will and doing all that DNR stuff and when to take her off life support stuff and who gets etc she also had to indicate what she wanted done after she died. We always knew it was donate to science or cremate. Turns out there will be quite a significant cost for that, too. I don't know about body farm, but to donate for medical schools there is quite the fee for that, nearly the same as cremating. It was quite the surprise, but it's something we'll deal with when it happens because it seems no matter what it will certainly cost us something even though my mom does not care at all what happens to her body.

A quick reminder as election season hits full swing and political ads become really prevalent: No discussion of political ads here. Here's the announcement made last year. (Which, good gracious, it's been a year!?!?) -
Woo-hoo!! Congrats, @emma675!!

In MA, alcohol is only sold in liquor or package stores. You won't find beer or wine in grocery stores or WalMart. And they just recently started being open on Sunday. Also, stores are closed on Thanskgiving, much to retailers chagrin but the joy of my family. I know that there are those that need to work on holidays--police and doctors etc. I just don't find shopping to be a necessity like those others. Then again, you won't find me shopping on Black Friday for love or money. I can't stand the crowds. Online shopping is perfect for me in that respect. Or, I choose the less crowded times--weekday mornings and some evenings. But standing on those lines after eating a huge meal? No thank you! I'd rather watch the football. Oh, and @Happyfatchick a dear friend of mine was married 11 years ago in Cooperstown. At the big hotel at the lake (I can't remember the name). It's a cute little town and we had a fabulous time.

Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage

The conversation about the pharmaceutical industry and healthcare has generally been fair and respectful. However, it is starting to slide more and more off topic. Please feel free to continue in the same civil, thoughtful and non-lecture-y vein in the Small Talk area. Thank you. -
The city name in NJ that always made me giggle was Ho Ho Kus. And it was a stop when I'd take the train into the city, so I'd get to hear it, too. Mahwah is another fun one.

Folks, let's take the discussion of religion to the correct topic. And a reminder to keep it super respectful, -
It's here. Scroll down a little bit to move past the sub-forums. Also, at the bottom of the page is the breadcrumb trail where it says (bottom left of page) Home>Shows and More>#>19 Kids and Counting (and then the rest for this topic, but if you click on 19 Kids and Counting it will take you to the main page linked above)
