A little while back there was a small discussion about applauding at the end of the movie. There was some light applause at the end of Beauty and the Beast yesterday. I loved the movie and so did the families that were in there, too, and it was wonderful, communal, joyful moment. Also, the movie is very good. Daughter asked to watch the original animated with dinner and it came off as cartoony (which, animated for kids, so no duh) but it does make a good point of how far animation and live action movies have come. I saw the animated in the theaters when I was in high school and it didn't bother me how Maurice and LeFou were just so exaggeratedly goofy. The characters in the live action were all better served.

I got to see it today and thoroughly enjoyed it. Watching the animated one after I'm so glad Kevin Kline as Maurice was so warm and loving. Luke Evan was deliciously evil. I also appreciate that LeFou was given a story, too. Actually, I think I liked all the actors in the roles. I wasn't too fond of the new songs, but sometimes it takes me a while to warm up to new songs. I saw it in 3D (it was the only showing that had seats) and it was ok--I don't do well with 3D. I did sort of jump at the snowball. There were some girls dressed up as Belle which was cute. I was impressed how quiet all the kids were. And at the end there was even a smattering of applause. I even liked the end credits.

Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage
frenchtoast replied to Maverick's topic in Commercials
And now back to your regularly scheduled programming of Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Enrage. Thank you! -
Firstly, posters are allowed to disagree with the prevailing viewpoint and explain why they see it differently. There is a difference between attacking or lecturing and disagreeing and seeing something differently. Secondly no more discussion about who deserves the social safety net. Not only is it straying off topic, but it's bound to start a forbidden political discourse.

I saw that little plow pile last night and thought the same thing: Get it in the morning, there's not much. Yeah....bad idea. Effing solid. I had to chip away a square in my pajamas this morning to get the trash and recycling out. It could hold all over 150 lbs of me--it was SOLID. It was a right pain in the arse.

The appearance of it, mostly. All the other make-up stuff--brushes, pencils, powders--look benign to them. But the the mechanics of the curler--and having it next to the eye--just looks bad to them. I can handle a needle going into an arm. But an eye? I can't watch that shit. I think it's that vein of seeing something like that next to an eye. I've shown them that it doesn't hurt and that it doesn't bother me at all. But the way it clamps down seems kinda freaky to them.

Yeah, the snow, rain, and freezing temperatures made it really difficult for my dogs to go out this morning. As in they're nearly refusing to go out because it's so hard for them to walk. It's just about solid enough for them to walk on, but there's an occasional fall through. And the worst is the frozen jagged pawprints that they hate but it's where they want to go. Sigh. I hope it warms up and melts!

I use an eyelash curler. I am not the target demographic for mascara because I have long lashes but they need to be curled if using mascara or it's not good. Those lengthening mascaras are terrible for me because it can almost get them long enough to touch the lenses in my glasses and then it's just a mess. My kids think it's a torture device and are astounded that I can use it without flinching.

Congrats, @ChiCricket! So lovely hearing about happy endings :) Yes, school is closed here. Yesterday morning they were saying 12-18 inches. This morning it's down to 3-5. Even so, the winds are a concern, especially since with the expected rain the snow will be heavy which will bring tree limbs. I hope we don't lose power.

Hell yes!! CANNOT WAIT!! The colors in those pictures look amazing. And so different from what we've seen. But first--Guardians of the Galaxy in May. I am so excited. WOO!

Saw Logan today. I've seen just about every X-Men movie and some of the standalone Wolverine ones. After the church scene in Kingsman and a lot of the stuff in Deadpool, the violence didn't bother me. That being said, there was a lot more emotional impact to the violence in Logan. And Patrick Stewart was heartbreaking. I can't say I enjoyed it as in it was a fun movie, but it was very good and will stay with me for a while.

Folks, let's keep in mind the Be Civil guidelines and that most will take sweeping derogatory generalizations personally. It's also straying into off topicness. Episode threads are for discussion of the episode. Small talk is open topic. If you find that someone's posts are regularly grating on you, please consider using the Ignore Feature.

The Lonely Js Club: James, Jackson & Johannah
frenchtoast replied to SpaghettiTuesdays's topic in Counting On
This is still the Lonely Js club, but until a new topic is created talk about Kendra is ok. Off topic would be any history of her family and her dad's activities as a pastor. This new courtship is not an invitation or excuse to start a discussion about politics via their community engagement. -
What?! I hadn't heard that!! I voted early and was looking forward to doing it again. I have a feeling for the yearly elections they probably won't, which whatever, parking is easier at my normal polling station. And I do understand it can be hard to find people to staff but it really seemed popular. But yeah, it can be such a chore to vote, it really does seem intentionally keeping people from voting which is so awful. And it seems like the less people vote the more difficult they make it because that makes sense. It wouldn't surprise me if poll taxes were brought back to discourage more people.

Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage

Hee hee! And with that out of our system, let's get back to bashing Chevy trucks. And yogurt ads. Except the one with the cute little girl having a late night snack with her dad. -
Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage
frenchtoast replied to Maverick's topic in Commercials
This is me when I'm stuck watching that commercials. How can there be 5 special editions? Do they not understand what special edition means. Or is it we're so special we need 5 special editions because we are just that special. GAH, so annoying! And now the stupid Chevy commercial where they have to read all the so-called awards that Chevy has won. Oh, just STFU. If you're so smart and won so many awards, how do you not know what special edition means?! -
Folks, posting private facebook information is not something we encourage, so please don't. Public facebook pages that actors maintain for publicity are fine, private stuff with private information is not.

Yeah, it did feel out of place but it didn't bother me as much as the stupid rock trolls from Frozen. I haaaated that part, song, everything. I actually enjoyed Shiny for what it was even if it was an odd fit.

That is so awesome! A neighborhood of polka dot houses. I would love to see that!!

My son's back pack is so huge with just his binders that I think having everything on an easily transportable iPad is a fabulous idea. (Sort of like how easy it to carry around a series of books on a Kindle rather than all the books--one small lightweight device vs 5 books.) It's also easy to access other support material like a dictionary and follow citations etc. Son's math textbook is online and he does his math homework that way (on paper though). There is also Google Classroom that our school is slowly adopting, allowing kids to work together on documents--very helpful when they're sick and a good way to learn how to work in the modern world. It also makes it easy for parents to see what the kids are doing, too. Technology can certainly be used to improve education. I do worry about those kids that can't afford it, so it's a good to hear that the school is providing.

@notyrmomma and @auntjess, is this the Mama June show forum you were looking for? -
Folks, please, keep the political engagement talk off this site. Several posts have been hidden. Posting about or recruiting others to engage in social media especially about the current political climate is not only off topic it is bound to lead to political talk. Thanks.

Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage
frenchtoast replied to Maverick's topic in Commercials
The milk/soy/70s discussion is awesome, but it's beginning to feel more like the Small Talk topic rather than the Annoying Commercials topic. Let's continue the milk discussion over there, please. The seizure inducing commercial talk can stay here, though. Thanks! -
Some movies we've seen applause but not every one. I think there was a smattering of applause after Hidden Figures, but there was also noticeable reactions throughout. It felt very much like a shared experience and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I really enjoy it when the audience gets "in" to a movie. At Deadpool there were a lot of audience reactions, and at one point a woman was still laughing past everyone else. Which made the audience laugh even more. I like that stuff. When I saw Rogue One, I was laughing at some of the jokes but the rest of the audience wasn't and I was a bit bothered by that. I mean, c'mon, K2 is funny.
