  1. That was my first thought when she threw up. I figured the show was either going to make her pregnant or have cancer. Luckily, it looks like it was just regular ol' bat-induced food poisoning.
  2. Apparently I'm emotionally dead inside because I didn't feel anything when Rebecca singing made Jack cry. It was just all too cliche. Also, I can't get into their road trip storyline. If someone told me that they were going on a cross country road trip with a guy they barely knew, I would say, "You make bad life choices." And yes, I know that lots of shows have done something similar but those are usually teen dramas where you're rooting for the characters to get together. This show is aimed at adults and is supposed to be a little more grounded. Also, we know these two get together so glimpses into their dating life are just boring and have no real impact on anything else in the show. That being said, I do like Kevin's storyline this season, though I wish the writers would settle on one thing for what Zoe's issue with their relationship is. Every week it changes. First it was that she only wanted something casual, then it was she was more interested in advancing her career, then it was racial differences and now it's molestation. Spread out over a season or two all of those would have been fine but condensed into about a month, it's a bit much. Hopefully that's the end of it because adding another issue on top of sexual abuse would just be beyond. Sidenote: Is Jack's necklace cursed? Because the first person who owns it doesn't get the girl he likes, the second person is killed and the third person is most likely going to come to a bad end. Kevin might want to watch out. Just saying.
  3. My guess is that the original Gargoyle King was teenage Hal, who found out about the game and wanted to punish them all for being sinners. Then it'll turn out that the current Gargoyle King is fake Chic because instead of killing him (we didn't actually see him die and they never found a body), Hal converted him and made him his disciple. So with Hal in jail, fake Chic is continuing Hal's dark work. Makes sense? Absolutely not! But this is Riverdale so making sense is not a pre-requisite. Agree with everyone else that KJ did the best job with channeling the adult he was supposed to be playing. Everyone else played the same character they usually play, just in different clothes. While I felt that the 80s music was a little out of place given that the episode took place around 1992, I figured it was due to the fact that the entire thing was a big Breakfast Club homage. Good to know that Hiram was as ridiculously dramatic as a teen as he is as an adult, what with his pearl necklaces and mi amors.
  4. I feel like part of the problem with Adam's immaturity might be the fact that by the time the real Adam Goldberg was in high school, it was the 90s. Thus, they can't use any stories from his actual time in high school to inspire plotlines because they wouldn't fit in the 80s setting of the show, so they just keep recycling stuff from his later elementary/middle school days. I'm still fond of this show but it's really just treading water at this point.
  5. Yes! I remember my 7th grade science teacher telling us that middle school would be the worst years of our life. At the time, I thought he was being ridiculous. Now, almost 25 years later, I look back and realize that he was completely right! Definitely my favorite episode of the season so far.
  6. Honestly, no matter who gets pregnant, I'm pretty sure that's how they're going to resolve it. Harris is too young to be having a baby and everyone else can't afford one. Also, if they do go the abortion route, my guess is that Dan will be against it initially, just to add more conflict. The only exception to this would be if Geena was the one who was pregnant, as she and DJ would be in the best position to have a baby.
  7. I had to pause the show, I was laughing so hard at that line! Lauren Ash is fast becoming my favorite part of this show. I love the cast overall, but she's definitely been the MVP as of late. I agree with everyone else that the Jerry/Sandra break-up was awful. I was hoping Sandra would snap out of it at the end and go "dark" as we've seen her do a couple times but no such luck. Hopefully they get back together by Christmas because I really don't want that storyline dragging out all season long.
  8. Count me in as one that was less than impressed by this episode. As others have said, it was just more of the same with Jack being super great and the show wanting to show more of his super greatness. Besides that though, I think the biggest problem with the whole Vietnam storyline is that Jack going to Vietnam has zero impact on the character. Several people on here have written about their real life experiences with friends and family who served in Vietnam and how they weren't the same once they got back. Pre-Vietnam Jack and post-Vietnam Jack are exactly alike. If they had shown pre-Vietnam Jack to be immature, or selfish or somehow different than the Jack we're used to seeing, then his having fought in Vietnam would serve a purpose in showing us how aspects of his character were developed. Instead, the only thing that sets pre and post-Vietnam Jack apart is that one knows a way to calm people down by using a breathing technique. That is literally the only difference.
  9. That was straight up my first thought when watching this. And those weeping angels are scary AF so I was immediately creeped out when the doctor had her vision in the hallway!
  10. I was completely underwhelmed by the three Kates and Jack dream sequence. What was the point of that? To show us that even in dreams, Jack encourages his daughter to make unhealthy food choices? I've decided not to worry about the details of how Randall is going to run for office in a state he doesn't live in because the show won't. It's just one of those thing that viewers aren't supposed to question. Kinda like what Kate does for money these days. My problem with the Rebecca/Jack flashbacks they're giving us this season is the more they show us about their dating life, the more ridiculous their love story becomes. So now they're going to move to LA together (or at least go on an extended roadtrip) after going on one date? That's just dumb. And with what money are they funding this trip? Jack didn't even have enough money to take Rebecca to a carnival and now he can just up and go to LA? I am interested in Kevin's storyline this season with him researching Jack's past and going to Vietnam. I'm sure his relationship with Zoe will crash and burn since she's obviously only interested in him for her career purposes but whatever, as others have said, Kevin's far more interesting when he's single.
  11. This! I graduated high school in 2000 and while I knew about the Harry Potter series (my mother, who was a teacher, and my brother read them), it certainly wasn't the all consuming thing it became after the films came out. The books were always released around my mom's birthday so that's what we would get her for a gift and I think the first one we had to stand in line for was the 4th one, which came out in the summer of 2000. People definitely were not lined up to get a copy of the first Harry Potter book. That was a 2000s thing, not a 90s thing.
  12. That was...just not good. I watched only to support Max Greenfield but he's going to have to get a better project because I can't see this lasting past a half season. The premise of the show wouldn't actually be so bad if it was say, an hour long drama/dramedy that centered around a few families in a predominantly black neighborhood and one of those families is white and just moved in. That way, you could hit on the cultural/racial issues without it being the sole focus of the show.
  13. Also not going to be missing Gina. When Chelsea was on maternity leave last year, I didn't even realize the character was missing until she was mentioned several episodes into the season.
  14. No, she was trying to use the title to tie into her question but you could tell that she thought Constance wasn't from the US originally. Joy says, "Tell about how you came over on the boat. You know, "Fresh off the Boat"? Then Constance looks confused, clarifies that Fresh off the Boat is the title of the TV show, to which Joy responds, "But if must have been scary when you first.., at which point you can tell that Joy realizes she's made a mistake because she doesn't finish the sentence. The entire thing was incredibly cringy.
  15. WTF was up with Joy during the Constance Wu interview? She implied more than once that Constance must have been scared to pursue acting when "she got off the boat". Constance Wu was born in freakin' Virginia! Does no one on this show do a five second google search before these interviews? That was just so unprofessional and racist.
  16. This is my guess too. Rebecca is either in a nursing home or hospital and nearing the end of her life so everyone is gathering to say goodbye. I don't think Kate is dead though. She and Toby are either divorced or separated and I'm really leaning towards separated since it looked like Toby was staying in a hotel. Also, if they're only separated, then they could have a romantic "get back together" moment that references something that we see 2018 Kate and Toby do/say. The show creator (whose name escapes me at the moment) says he knows how he wants the show to end and it would make sense that it would be with Rebecca dying so that she could be reunited with Jack.
  17. Count me in with those who are over the Rebecca/Jack relationship. The random other guy showing up with flowers for Rebecca was pointless. We know they get together, so there's absolutely no tension there. Also, what I liked about this show when it began was that even though it was tear-jerky, a lot of it felt real and relatable. Rebecca going on in the car about how she and Jack have nothing in common but "wow, when you look at me like that" is just ridiculous. People don't say things like that, especially on the first date. If they had had her talking to a friend about it post-date, then sure. Or if they had her tell Jack that years later, then I would have bought it. But that she just says that at the end of their awkward first date? Ugh, way too cheesy. (Also, side rant: if Jack had no money, why on earth did he think a carnival was a good idea? Carnivals are money pits! Everything is overpriced! What was he thinking?) I get what they were going for with the Franco Harris thing (just when you think things are over, bam!, things turn themselves around and are good again) but it was very poorly executed. Instead of just randomly showing Harris and his family (which was confusing) then cutting to actual footage from the game, they should have had Jack and Rebecca actually attend the game, that way the scenes with Harris would actually tie in to what was going on with the characters. And yes, I know that Jack was broke, but they could have had him win tickets on the radio or randomly get them in some magical "This Is Us" way. Then they could have had Jack and Rebecca being all awkward which would have paired well with shots of the Stellers playing poorly and Harris's reactions throughout the game. They also could have shown Jack penny-pinching by only getting food for Rebecca and her feeling weird because she's drinking a beer while he's having tap water. Also would have been a nice way to show Rebecca's introduction to football and the foundation for the family's die-hard love of the Stellers. On a positive note, I did love Kevin's interactions with his nieces.
  18. This was my first thought as well. Any of the extended family are fair game: Claire/Mitchell's mom, Phil's dad, Stella, Manny's dad. The only other person whose death could have some effect that I can think of is Dylan.
  19. Okay, so here's what confused me about the Tamar interview. When the Tamar/Vince divorce news first broke (last year or whenever), Wendy went on and on about how she and Big Kev had hung out with them and she didn't want to report on the story because she was too close to it and that even though Tamar supposedly wanted to come on the show to talk about it, she just couldn't do that (out of respect for Vince or something). Fast forward to today and Wendy is saying in the interview that she and Tamar aren't friends but she feels that Tamar is her #1 "friend in her head" (a title I'm pretty sure she bestowed on Heather Locklear a few seasons back, but whatever). So my question is, are the Hunters friends with Tamar and Vince or not? Because if they are friends, then why is she saying they aren't and if they aren't friends, then why was she being weird about the story earlier? Makes absolutely no sense.
  20. Well that sucks but I can't say that I'm totally surprised. When they took a break then came back with all the episodes available at one time, I figured they must not be getting that many views with the weekly format and we're trying to see if changing how it was viewed would improve ratings. Apparently not.
  21. OMG, I didn't realize that was her until reading this! I knew that the actress looked familiar but couldn't figure out what I knew her from. I wish that all these actresses wouldn't get so much (or really, any) plastic surgery. It always looks horrible and you can't even recognize them afterwards.
  22. I really think they missed the mark on this show by making it about Patty's quest for revenge instead of just a parody show about teenage beauty pageants. I find basically every other character on the show to be way more interesting than Patty and don't understand why they even put in the whole "revenge" premise since I'm four episodes in here and have yet to see her get revenge on anyone that was mean to her when she was heavier. I agree that Bob looks a lot like John Ritter. I kept thinking he looked familiar but couldn't figure out why until about episode 3.
  23. My guess for the "who are Randall and Tess visiting" flashforward is Rebecca. She's be almost 90 by then so they could say that she's developed dementia (or something similar) and thus has to live in a home. Or she could be dying and they have to go visit her in the hospital or it's the anniversary of her death and they're going to visit her gravestone. I feel like the writers are trying to make everyone think it's going to be Beth or Deja but since this show likes the Gotcha! moments, what they're doing now is a big misdirect and it'll turn out to be Rebecca instead. Or, in the ultimate cheap move, it'll be some character we haven't even met yet. Like some older half-sister of Randall's or something.
  24. I figured Lavinia was going to be a serial killer once she started listing all of her relatives who had died but I thought they wouldn't reveal that until the last episode of the season (I assumed Josh would eventually figure it out, confront her and she would attempt to murder him but get caught in the act). Re-opening the old murder case isn't something I saw coming but I think it's an interesting route to take. And I'm glad that Jaleel White's working. Just another reason I don't want this show to get cancelled!
  25. That confused me as well. In the earlier episode that showed the flashback to the kickball game 30 years ago, the two sisters talk about drowning Debbie. Then in this episode (or maybe the one before, can't remember now) Nicky confronts Red about hanging out with Carol and says, "She tried to kill her sister!" to which Red replies, "That was thirty years ago." and then Nicky says that she was talking about when Barb was given the old bath salts. So yeah, bit confusing as to why Red would think the "tried to kill her sister" would refer to a successful murder instead of an unsuccessful attempt. But yeah, pretty sure that Debbie died and now I'm going to be mentally traumatized for the rest of the evening.
