There seems to be a running theme this season about 'happy' endings which really aren't all that happy. Ep 1 had the kids whose mother was neglecting them. They did get rescued and sent to a new life in Australia, but the voiceover tells us it wasn't all it was cracked up to be. Ep 2 had the new parents with a child, but still going to be grieving over their lost one. And now ep 3, Tony isn't in jail, his wife is standing by him and he has a daughter but he's being forced to take these drugs, he's never going to be happy and (even though he doesn't know it) it's going to be 7 or 8 years before homosexuality was decriminalised. Usually the show is a bit more optomistic.

Whatever about bringing young kids to a movie, I wish that parents would *not* let them wear those sneakers that flash when the kid moves their feet. I was watching The Avengers with my nephews and there was a kid at the end of the row who was swinging his feet (possibly kicking the back of the seat in front of him, but it was an empty seat so that didn't bother me) What did bother me was the flashing light I could see in my peripheral vision throughout the movie. Now it was my second viewing of the movie, so it wasn't so distracting, but I could see my younger nephew keep turning his head when the lights were flashing, so it certainly affected his enjoyment. I was in two minds as to whether or not to say anything during the show, but as soon as the credits started rolling I did go over and tell the parent/guardian just how annoying it had been. Not of course that I got any satisfaction beyond a "not my problem" shrug. (jerk)

I figured Erin would be back soon, but I thought it would have something to do with the additional checks that were being run on the team before they could head to La Paz (or was it checks on the suspects?). Anyway, I thought it would throw up something on her past that would kick her off the task force. Then again, I also thought that maybe the Mom had set up the shooting so as to get the life insurance policy for her family and that the daughter had walked in at the wrong time. So that's zero for two for me this ep!

This was I think the most heartbreaking episode I've watching in a long time. Granted, I usually need tissues to get through even the happy ending eps, but this one just had me in tears for so much of it. :-( I was glad though that Barbara hadn't been mistaken about hearing a heartbeat. She was already faltering confidence wise, and if she *had* been mistaken, that would have completely done for her. Poor Sister Julienne, when we saw her reaching to take her friend's hand during the movie, I was sure that he was going to have passed away while watching. Glad she did get to see him and make peace with him. No Chummy, and is Sister Evangelina leaving as well? There seems to be hardly any midwives left from the first season.

Faux Life: Things That Happen On TV But Not In Reality
Ceindreadh replied to Kromm's topic in Everything Else TV
I think that only works if you shout "Live damn you, live!!!" while mid compression. -
I honestly didn't have all that much sympathy for the girl who got kicked out. The rules were (presumably) made clear to her before she moved in and - ridiculous as they may seem in this day and age - she would have agreed to abide by them. She broke the rules and had to face the consequences. Maybe Ms. Fry took an unseemly amount of glee from catching somebody breaking the rules, but it's her job to enforce them and if the girls don't like it well maybe they need to find a place with less stringent house rules.

Normally I'd agree, but then I saw pics of Brian Dietzen (Jimmy Palmer NCIS ) and Barrett Foa (Eric Beale NCIS LA) without their glasses, and they look completely different. (or I could just be that unobservant ;-) -

I assumed that they just didn't want to disturb a potential crime scene i.e. if a perp had switched the lights off, there could be prints/dna on the switch, so until it's cleared they have to leave everything as it was. -
I'm pretty sure that Chummy just mean that she'd treated other girls in similar circumstances. And IMO, while nobody will 'ask', more than likely most people will have a fair idea of what's going on when a teenage girl is suddenly shipped off for a few months. But sending them away for the birth/adoption will allow them to save face and pretend that it never happened. As for Chummy herself, I'm pretty sure that the time in S1 when she shows up to Peter and tells him that "Underneath this coat, I'm practically naked" was her first time. IIRC, her mother wanted her to have a white wedding until Chummy said she was 'no longer qualified' ;-)

I saw it a few months back. Went to see it solely because of Essie Davis (Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries) and I wasn't disappointed. Horror wise, I've seen scarier movies but the Babadook was pretty damn unsettling (and I was glad I'd gone to an early showing so I wasn't going home in the dark.

That's what I heard as well.

Watching him have sex with somebody when that somebody hasn't given their permission to be watched, that I'm guessing is the crime. Any interactions that happened in public, well it might be a bit skeevy to be effectively eavedropping, but it wouldn't be illegal.

I think I might have appreciated Under the Dome (book) more if I hadn't already seen the Simpsons Movie!

Oh I remember watching back when it aired originally and by the time Gannicus was captured I was sobbing pretty much non-stop until after the closing credits. (didn't even recognize Pompey when he finally showed up, even though I'm a Joel Tobeck fan)
-
(facepalm) I can't believe I watched this episode and only recognised 'The Ferg' from Longmire during the boathouse scene.

I would advise you to have a plentiful supply of tissues at the ready (speaking from experience)

Caeser's not all that great if you remember that he was all set to rape Kore in an earlier episode and the only difference between him and Tiberius was that Caesar (mistakenly) thought that he had Crassus's okay to do so, whereas Tiberius knew damn well he didn't..

I wasn't all that keen on Kitty last week - her accent just bugged me - and I didn't warm up to her until her conversation with Joan at the end of ep 1. She wasn't quite as annoying this week, and while I don't really want her around long term, it's good sometimes to shake up the dynamics a bit. (and for some reason I'd like to see her pair up with Bell on screen now and then)

S01.E04: Let's Get To Scooping
Ceindreadh replied to Tara Ariano's topic in How To Get Away With Murder [V]
I'm not sure why they should be worried about their fingerprints/DNA at the crime scene. Didn't it take place in the Law offices where they work? Wouldn't their prints be expected to be there? -
I do love my i-pad and have scores of book on both i-tunes and the kindle app. That said, there's something about browsing through a bookstore and picking up books at random. From a practical point of view, while I can store a hell of a lot more books on my tablet, I still wouldn't feel comfortable opening it up in public while waiting for a bus/train or commuting. At least with a paper books, somebody grabs it, it's just a book and usually replaceable. Whereas if I take a tablet out in public, I feel it's just a matter of time before somebody tries to lift it from me.

I wouldn't call it a favourite, but Flowers in the Attic definitely affected my outlook on things. The biggest thing I remember from reading it as a child (and most likely I was too young to have read it when I did) but I remember the mother blaming their problems on the fact that she didn't know how to earn her own living and that was why the family had to hide in her father's house. I remember thinking then that there was no way I was ever going to be 'just' a housewife with no income of my own. I didn't know what career I wanted but I knew at the very least I was going to do some sort of secretarial course so I'd always have some saleable skill. (30 years later, being to type as a result of that course is one of the most useful skills I have)

IIRC, didn't the nurse say she'd put her hand through a glass window?

I'd be interested to know what you think constitutes looking Irish. Many Irish people aren't actually white.

When Salem's Lot aired first I saw part of the first half and was freaked out by the floating kid. Watched it all the way through a few years later as a teenager and ended up leaving a bible on my bedside table for a few nights. (my sister - supposedly the 'sensible' one, slept with a few cloves of garlic!)

I think you're right about it being his underwear rather than swimming trunks. Didn't Lewis make a comment just after that along the lines of "don't get your knickers in a knot" because he knew Hathaway was (now) going commando!
