I loved that Steven’s first reaction to the broken door was to offer her space in his oven. One of the best things about this show is the way the bakers - while certainly competitive - are still ready to give a helping hand to their rivals if needed. It’s so much less bloodthirsty than some other competitive reality shows.

That’s twice now I think that Kate should have been the one to go. Damn. Still annoyed.

I can't remember how it played out last season. Did she know for sure that she was pregnant when she married George? Did they say this season how premature Valentine was?

It was no surprise that she was going to be Queen one day, but I don't think anybody expected it to be so soon. King George was only in his mid 50s when he died, and given the longevity of his ancestors, it's likely that Philip and indeed Elizabeth expected that they'd have at least 15 to 20 years to just be a 'normal' married couple (or as normal as they could be) before having to take on all the extra responsibilities of the crown (moving out of their home, changing the name).

I don't think you missed anything. Meadow looked surprised to see Ally there and then tried to avoid her. I think it was just good luck for the cult that she showed up at the right time and that Meadow managed to get Ally's hands on the gun for the final shot. Rewatching it, it's clear that the shooter has long manicured nails, but when we see Ally with the gun in the opening scene, her nails are much shorter. Which would have been obvious if I'd been paying attention when watching it first and not so shocked to see who was doing the shooting! (my first reaction was "No, Ally, no!", a few seconds later I was all "yay, she shot the bastard!")

If they’re using 300+ demons to torture 4 humans, it’s not really very efficient. Heck, putting 300 humans and 4 demons would probably be just as effective long term. All any society needs to implode is just a few strategically placed shit-stirrers.

I figured the Captain was a goner when Michelle Yeoh was listed as a special guest star and I thought for sure she'd go out on the suicide mission. Then they got my hopes up by having her think of a different plan, only to dash them again on the Klingon ship. But then they didn't manage to bring back her body, so now I'm wondering if it will turn out that her life signs were just too weak to be picked up on the sensors and if the Klingons will manage to keep her alive as a hostage (or even to simply prevent her from having a warriors death)

Isabella is a Latin form of Elizabeth. Presumably Ross would have been taught Latin at school and would have known. I wonder if he or Demelza suggested it. (Don't think it was ever mentioned in the books - Bella being born in the gap between 7 and 8)

Question. Were the new neighbours the same people on the news bulletin who shot the video of Kai being beaten up?

Steve would have got star baker if his tea cakes hadn't been so bad. Julia did better than him on the other two challenges and was close enough on the showstopper. I'm glad he didn't make it three in a row, imagine the pressure he'd be under going forward! Plus it's nice to not have an apparent runaway winner too early. That said, I like that they're judged each week on just that week. And last weeks star baker could easily fall at the next weeks fence.

Robin is not exactly making a good impression on me. The last story had her cheating the temp agency out of their commission. This ep we have her blowing off her boyfriend so she can work, and lying to him about it. And then driving through private property causuding who knows what damage just to get to her train on time, when if she'd been a bit more supportive to her bereaved fiancé she wouldn't have been there in the first place. Grrr. Maybe the books do handle it better, I've only read the third one. Might pick up the others after its finished.

Wasn't one of the last things Bill said to the Doctor about him being old and her still being into women...and the Doctor's next regeneration is going to be into a young woman? Just saying!

I only started watching in S4, and was half hoping that the suspect would get away with it, solely because of the (IMO) smugness of the lead characters! Might have felt differently if I'd watched the previous seasons first - only picked up on this one because I like Lee Ingleby.

S2 has only just landed on Netflix. I thought there was a rule - or at least a common courtesy - about spoiler tagging anything from future episodes in an episode thread.

Season 5 is set to air in Australia from the 17th September. They're currently filming a telemovie which is supposed to close out the show. (There is speculation that that might not be the end of it, but nothing official so far)

There is a catch up option on the Channel 4 website. Unlike the BBC iPlayer, it does work for viewers outside of the UK (no funny business required) They may have region locked it to Europe though.

I thought it was good. Those singing cakes in the ad breaks though "Who doesn't like baking?" "Weirdos!" Heh!

FYI, if you're recording this on Channel 4, they have it in an hour and a quarter slot - presumably so they can include ads and still have 60 mins airtime.
