  1. It seems like everyone in my part of my state not only claims Native American heritage, but all seem to be descended from a "Cherokee princess." There must have been an awful lot of those...
  2. I do feel like they are starting to phase the Goldbergs out.
  3. The Phantom Menace episode tickled me. As a non-Star Wars fan myself, I felt like "The Emperor's New Clothes" after watching it. My boyfriend and our buddies were so excited after we saw it and I was kind of like, "Eh, I didn't really think it was that good..." Weeks later it was like one of them woke up one morning and it suddenly hit them, too.
  4. I think I would've liked her audition had I not already "known" her. My husband, who'd never heard of her, liked her. I feel like my expectations were pre-colored because of this show. To be honest, she rubbed me so wrong on THIS one that I don't think I ever would've given her a chance on the other one. She's going to have to show a lot of humility and drop the ego.
  5. I would have liked Evelyn's audition better if I hadn't known her from 90 Day Fiance. She's not my least favorite person on that show, but she's up there. We've spent so much time on that board talking about her singing already so there's not that much left to say. My bottom line is that I actually like her voice, but it's so affected and she's so full of herself that it will be really hard to pull me over as a fan.
  6. I want to say that Amber looks like a drag queen, but I honestly don't want to insult legit drag queens who would never leave the house looking like that.
  7. My county won't even hire you as a sub unless you have X many hours in education. You don't have to have an education degree, but you have to have a certain number of hours in the program. Source: I sub for my county but my PhD-holding husband cannot.
  8. Ha ha, I didn't get either but now I can see it. I thought it almost looked 1960's.
  9. At this point I think the best you can hope for is that your coach will like you so much that they take you on tour with them once the show finishes. Professional connections and networking seem to be the only real benefit to being on this show. My guess, though, is that some of the judges are so paranoid about new people coming up who can take their place that they are happy to cut ties once things finish filming. (Though I've heard stories about Kelly Clarkson keeping in touch with her folks and Blake has taken at least two on tour.)
  10. I had never heard of "shrimp parm" before this show-and I live in the south where Fritos and other forms of potato chips are cooking staples.
  11. I think that's American Idol. 😎
  12. Ha ha, I must be the only person who liked Wade Costa. He has that rough Mumford & Son's kind of voice. He's the only one I've heard, so far, whose album I'd buy. Laine is good but I'm mostly a country music fan and he sounds like a bunch of others I know. And the girls are all kind of blending in together. They either scream their songs or have that folksy/Adele thing going on. It's not bad, it just doesn't stand out to me.
  13. My mom has been a public school teacher since 1987. Our state has always required a BA in Education in order to teach-no associate's degree. In addition, for the past 30 years our state has required specialized degrees in subject matter in addition to a BA in Education for those teaching high school subjects. Even our chorus teachers had to have a BA in Education with a Concentration in Choral Music. As well as the degrees, additional certification was required over the years. Many teachers have had to go on to get their Rank 1s to keep their jobs. Maybe things were different in private schools, or in Pennsylvania where the show is set, I don't know. It bothered me because I was taken right out of the show when Lainey got that job. I have spent the past 31 years surrounded by teachers and listening to the drama they have to go through in order to get hired. The fact that Lainey was able to get that job without any prior experience, much less education, was just too far-fetched for me. I'm enjoying the show, and I can accept that some things are exaggerated for the sake of the show, but that particular point actually made me mad. Teachers already have to fight so many battles and stereotypes.
  14. That's a good question. I didn't have intercourse (penetration) until I was 21 (or 20? anyway, it was late), but I'd done everything else up to that point, including oral sex. I grew up under the assumption that if my hymen was broken before marriage that I was somehow less. Damaged goods. It was a cultural and family thing. When I finally had intercourse it was a HUGE relief. And not necessarily a letdown, but for making the actual act of penetration such a big deal all my life, I felt kind of silly. I've previously written about my male friend who was almost 30 when he lost his virginity. It's a weird thing. It's like you really build it up in your head for so long that eventually, even though you WANT to have sex, you can't because you've waited for so long that you don't want to do it with just some random person-especially after you did NOT do it with someone you loved in the past.
  15. I just can't with this bitch. So some of us have legitimate diseases and/or medical conditions that really DO requite frequent doctor visits and even frequent surgeries. And yet Little Miss Munchhausen here finds a way to make it all look ridiculous. We already fight for better care from doctors and for understanding from our friends and family. She's not doing anyone any favors. On the other hand, if I lived with UBT then I'd probably find more ways to live under anesthesia, too.
  16. Evelyn Cormier (of My 90 Day Fiance) has been Facebooking. Today she announced that she'll be on the March 17th airdate. I don't know how far she gets because I am not invested in her enough to actually click on her links. 🙂
  17. I feel like a coin was tossed at the beginning of each episode to determine which one is airing next. They seem disjointed.
  18. I had to take a break last season so now I am trying to catch up. I guess you mean "re-popularized"? Because boots with dresses have been popular since the early 70s. I still have some of my mom's vintage cowboy boots and the long (and short ) "hippy" dresses she wore together as a young twentysomething back then. As a teen in the 90s, we wore boots and dresses when we'd go line dancing. Taylor gets credit for starting lots of things, like the bright red lipstick and blonde hair, but most of the things she does style-wise are just reboots of classic looks.
  19. So aside from this update special, is his OG episode the only other one Sean has been in?
  20. You're right. They'd consider it a safety concern and would probably send the parents to a workshop and provide informative materials about gun safety and kids. Probably do a 6 month followup.
  21. So I am friends with the ghostwriter who wrote Jenelle's book. I keep wanting to ask her for the dirt, but I don't want to be too obvious about it. When I DO find shit out, though, I'll report back.
  22. After 5 minutes of watching this, my husband says, "My gaydar is pinging with this guy and my equipment isn't even that sensitive to begin with."
  23. I was a virgin until I was 21 and I wore some of the sluttiest, most revealing clothes I could find. I grew up on 80's music videos and, alas, the women in those served as my fashion icons. I don't think a woman can be labeled virgin/non virgin simply by the clothes she wears.
  24. As a paranormal mystery author, I was pulled in all kinds of directions in this one. On the one hand, I'm always in for haunted house stories-even when they're the B grade. However, this one didn't quite work as a haunted house story because they just kept tossing in the references as throwaway ideas. I enjoyed Courtney's character a lot, but my 11-year-old son came up with a better idea. He thought that she was killing people in the houses to have material for her blog (and as some kind of "proof" that ghosts exist). Then there was the plot hole...Rossi looks at Courtney and tells her that he needs to know all about local lore, as well as people who would be similar to Courtney in interests. Wouldn't the FIRST person she mentioned be the paranormal investigator that she kind of follows around? I know it would've been the end of the episode then, but it bothered me. I also thought it was funny that Courtney put the houses together before the Dream Team did. At least this time they weren't like, "Hey Garcia! Look up every man whose first name has the letter 'A' in it and then separate that group into everyone who hates the color orange."
