  1. I thought I was watching the worst wig wig contestant. I guess we can tell which actors have really good agents - they're the ones that look great (Michonne) or haven't aged at all (Rosita, the King), compared to the ones with the awful wigs (Carol) . I couldn't understand the kids - isn't Judith supposed to be several years older than Henry? I like the newcomers.
  2. That is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen, so clearly designed to reinforce the submissive role of the woman. I sure hope she got a decent (ie, rich) husband from that performance. I get the irony of using it in the show.
  3. I'm not enjoying this AT ALL. Do I really need more (and constant, in your face) reminders of how corrupt and sell-serving our politicians are? Don't care about why Claire is the way she is, you can possibly be surprised that she was blamed for enticing the boys to assault her. There is nobody at all I am interested in.
  4. Shadowfax! Highlight of the episode for me, Although I did appreciate the falling zombies, excuse me, walkers.
  5. Interesting bunch. Loved the manscapers, although I have to admit I didn't fully understand their product until the "trim the hedge and the tree stands tall" (or something) remark, I thought it was a more generalized grooming product. At the beginning of their pitch, I never thought they would get a deal. I'm glad they did, because I can totally see them dominating that particular niche. Sorry, I don't for a minute believe that 70+ % of men manscape, but what do I know, my sample is pretty limited so I don't even have anecdata. Why int he world didn't the Boom boom people (stupid name, especially when used as a verb) counter with some kind of non-equity offer? I'm not sure what the rules of the show are, or if they could have been permitted to do so. I'm surprised none of the sharks called them out for not really seeking an offer, just the appearance on the show. Cave Shake - they were 2 of the most unprofessional people ever. Dance routine aside, their presentation was awful. What makes their product unique or even worthwhile? There are lots of drinks like that. And for Charles Barkley to invest because it can be marketed for weight loss is ridiculous, since that bottle apparently has almost 500 cal. I figured they told him he had to invest in something to justify being on the show. Speaking of Barkley - he really didn't add anything, either on a personal or professional level. He asked a couple of basic questions, and that was that. I'm not sure if he was there because of Metta World Peace, or vice-versa, but he really could have enhanced the basketball moment by at least a little participation. I loved how Metta was so supportive of the shirt dude, who I also liked very much. I'm not generally a fan of backstories, but his was interesting, especially the Barbie part. I'm really glad he got a decent deal, especially because those shirts looked very nice. I don't know if the price is reasonable for what appears to be a well-made comfortable shirt, but I'd really consider buying one for my husband (who's totally an Orvis guy, though) or even myself. I have to say, Metta really rocked that shirt, but he'd probably look good in anything.
  6. About the 911 cutting board on S10E3: Sympathetic story aside, I'm not sure that such a heavy board is for me. I stopped using my really nice, large cutting board several years ago, and now use a small cheese board - with a handle, since I'm not chopping or prepping large quantities of food at a time.. That makes it easy to lift and tilt to release whatever is on the board. It's cheap, so I run it through the dishwasher, and spray with bleach/cleaner until it gets warped and then I buy another.
  7. I thought that was kind of a strange episode. I'm not at all a fan of guest sharks (except Ashton Kutcher) because they usually have to have particular segments directed to them. I have no idea who this Matt Higgins (?) is, or how he can be of any benefit to anyone in any place other than NYC, but at least he wasn't actively annoying. Speaking of annoying: Those soup women were so annoying I had to FF, which is really unusual for me (I do by-pass the commercials, sorry ABC). It's a shame because I am totally their target market - I don't like to cook, do like soup but don't buy it because of the sodium. Those rolls looked amazing, too bad I can't order them on-line since I don't live anywhere near where they are. I do think it will be successful on the West Coast, if the business factors work out, so ti probably;y was a good deal.
  8. Watching this made me realize how much better it is without any of those guest sharks (except Ashton Kucther) - especially that Spanx woman and her mega teeth smile. Maybe the editing is tighter or something, but I didn't FF as much as I usually do. Thought bringing our Robert's wife and twins was kind of gimmicky, but at least it didn't take long. I'm a devoted pet parent, and would actually consider something like that onesie when I take our lab Molly to our daughter's house (very nice furniture, not that they are overly fussy) but I can't imagine the trouble it would involve to get her legs inside it. She sheds constantly, though, so I am tempted. I also really liked the a ata towels, and am glad she got a deal. I have to admit, that's a solution to a problem I hadn't even thought about, but I imagine a nice terry bra-thing would feel comfortable. Using Kevin as the model was a great move. He comes as a grouch, but he's actually pretty good-natured about this kind of thing. Not a fan of applesauce, as a snack - I looked it up on Amazon (because I got a huge security warning when I went to the Sanaia website), and the ginger flavored one available has 23 grams of sugar, 0 protein. Less of a snack, more of a condiment. I don't like crying, but I guess it worked. I don't understand these sharks sometimes, they are so inconsistent. They want people to demonstrate commitment to their products, but when these people invest their life savings that's a negative. It's also hardly reasonable for people to give up their actual jobs (with benefits, I assume) when they are the breadwinners. Did you add ginger?
  9. I'm so happy to finally be able to see this season - I've watched the first 2 episodes so far, and it's very much as I remember it. Agree about Josephine - Audrey Fleurot is a very good actress, but she's not really doing anything different here. I really want her to finally do work she likes, and not to have to put up with sh*t. Miss Pierre.
  10. I liked Emma the straw whisperer and I thought the product had some potential. A lot of people use straws for various reasons - because they have no choice medically, because they don't want to get coffee/tea stains on their teeth, don't want their lips to touch potentially unclean cups and glasses, whatever. Carrying around a little metal straw like that doesn't seem like a big deal, and these people might appreciate it. I might get one, because I am (slightly!) germaphobic, and $20 for a reusable item doesn't seem like a lot. I also liked the mermaid and the 2 handsome men A LOT. I'm not at all a fan of family drama and/or tears, so the constantly interrupting pot woman was annoying to me. I thought in addition to camping, a version of the foldable pot might have some application in third world countries, where women have to carry pots. I thought the Lego glue kid was super annoying, and it's not a product we would have used, Lego creations by their nature are temporary. I felt sorry for the extraneous sister. Generally, my understanding is that the focus of the show has changed - instead of wading through entrepreneur submissions, they just scroll through kickstarter to find things. I used to really like seeing interesting products, and I've purchased quite a few over the years. A lot of these newer ones, though, I think are premature. I wonder how many deals actually get done after the show is over.
  11. So bring in fans, or a portable air conditioner.
  12. I learned quite a few things in this episode - that there are such things as an Eton mess and Les miserable pastry. I also learned that I am seriously craving any (or all) of those choux buns. Now the frozen mini eclairs just won't do it anymore. While I never really thought Stacey should have made it through this far, I did think her swans, while not as ambitious as they could have been in terms of structure, were very nice. Certainly more attractive than Kate's faded rainbow, I just didn't get the judge love. I do think Kate has been very lucky, I don't think she is any better than Liam would have been. I hope they didn't ding Steven for the melted chocolate basket - that was certainly not his fault (although may be should have taken the temp into account when designing it), I don't know why they can't AC that tent. I didn't really like his balloon anyway, though it did show a high skill level. I think his hand bag was amazing, he hasn't come near that level since. Looking forward to the final - I've enjoyed this season much more than I thought I would.
  13. I was surprised to see Liam go, but he really had a bad week. His "showstopper" was truly awful. Kate's was pretty marginal, too, but at least it was ambitious. I have no idea what a "Liver Bird" is, so learned something new. I was surprised that so many of these very experienced and talented bakers had so much trouble with the lattice.
  14. I thought the challenges were super disappointing for Italian week. Pizza? Not even with creative toppings? Come on, I know you have to get the dough the right thickness, but aside from under baking it, that's pretty much it. And none of them had ever added a bit of lemon juice (for acidity) to their sauce or knew to do it at the end? I know they're bakers, and this is a baking show, but that was just too basic to be interesting. I was sorry to see Yan go, but she did deserve it. I loved her scientific approach, and her humor but she had a bad week. Speaking of which - I thought the selection of sfogliatelle as a show stopper was a very poor one, since success really depended almost completely on technique. There also was no way to make them into any kind of showstopper, which to me is one really big or interesting creation, not 12 pieces of pretty much identical items. I want to see creativity int he baked goods, not the containers. And, since I'm cranky - I might as well complain about the opening scenes, which show clips from the episode. I don't want to see them out of context, I don't to be even remotely spoiled (by for example, knowing that Paul says something, even if it is not clear to whom he said it. You don't need to tease me, show - I'm already watching. It's just filler, time could be better spent by spending more time showing us the judging (for example).
  15. I know, that was wonderful! I lover her science and nerdiness so much, she reminds me of my daughter, so I hope she does well. I thought her showstopper looked not just beautiful, but like it would taste good as well. Not that Liam's wasn't great, but I thought Yan's showing in the technical would have given her a boost. I very much liked this episode, as I just love savory pies. (In fact, I watch Men in Blazers for the pies), but have never tried to make one myself. After watching, though, I think I will try and make one for Christmas dinner. I've never made any kind of pastry, so will need to practice a lot. I really can't say that I can guess who's going to win - I originally thought it was Stephen, but it's become clear that his baking needs to measure up to his presentation. Sophie makes smart choices, like using the syringe to make sure her game pie wasn't runny. Both Yan and Liam are clearly very good. The one I think has no chance, unless she really steps up her game, is Stacey. Much as I like the more relaxed PAul, I'm glad there were no handshakes, he was getting too free with them, I thought they might start to become a but devalued. Prue made up for it, though.
  16. I've had (and liked) stoopwafels in the US. I didn't know the coffee cup trick - might be a problem if you're using a French coffee bowl, though! I'm not a caramel fan (too sweet), so I didn't think this was an especially good episode, bake wise. There were a lot of classics (apple cake), the only new thing I learned (besides how much trouble it is to make caramel) was using bay leaves to cut the sweetness. Ont he other hand, I'm really liking the new hosts and the new judge. Noel has really grown on me, he is just so charming and low key. I especially like his food themed shirts. Prue completely won me over with her acknowledgment about the calories - which is the standard I use for baked goods, is it calorie-worthy. After all, as the saying goes, a minute on the lips, a lifetime on the hips. Or maybe that's just for older women like myself.
  17. I was relieved. I like Prue, especially how she’s a bit more direct than Mary, and the contestants are as lovely as ever. One thing struck me: there was a recent discussion (I think it was about the season that recently aired in the US on PBS) about whether there was a bias against older contestants. My personal feeling is no, but perhaps some of them are less willing to experiment with different flavors or to show as much willingness to step out of their comfort zones as younger folks. Flo was a perfect example of that to me: while she seemed to be quite a nice person, I was completely unimpressed by her watermelon cake. While competently done, it was totally unoriginal. Maybe it’s a US thing, but every grocery store around here has them, and usually much more realistically done. anyway, just glad the show is not only back but watchable. Thanks Netflix
  18. Let me start off by saying that I am (was?) a huge Sue/Mel fan - I loved their warmth and humor. Sandi seems fine, but I'm not sure about Noel. I've never heard of him before, and he seems like a very nice person, but I just don't see what he brings to the show. I've only seen the first 2 episodes so far, and maybe it's the editing, but he just doesn't seem to have much interaction either with Sandi or with the contestants. Of course, he could be a million times worse, so I will keep an open mind.
  19. Is there going to be a season 3? If so, when?
  20. I felt so sorry for James, who was my favorite throughout, but his decision to go for quantity over quality was both senseless and disastrous. At the least, he should have done something with more of a personal connection. Did love his girl friend and roommate. I thought John deserved to win Count me in in those who found Brendan increasingly smug - to me, it was clear that he expected to win He was consistent and precise, but just seemed to lack that little extra something Why didn’t he decorate his gingerbread people?
  21. Ha ha, I started to read that as "before rubber spatulas were invented." No disrespect to Mary, a lovely lady of course.
  22. Thanks for the link, I have ti admit, I had never even thought about permits and the behind the scenes stuff like that. I'd like to see that, instead of the family drama.
  23. I have a sweet tooth, so everything looked yummy. I didn't agree with the judges about Brendan's showstopper - I thought the stripes looked boring, and not very creative. While he is obviously an excellent baker, I think his smugness is starting to get to me. My fave at this point is James. Sorry to see Danny go, but she really had some problems. I also thought that petit fours were always the little iced squares - but nobody really did that, perhaps that would not have been creative enough. One aspect of the show that I really like is Sue and Mel. They are so warm and funny, and try to help the contestants when they can. I identified completely with Sue, when she had some trouble piping the cake. Good thing I don't live in Paris, I'd probably weigh 300 pounds.
  24. Wow, Walter's work was just awful. I don't know if he really is as self-deluded as he came off, but I felt really sorry for him - such a sorry showing. I know he had probably the weakest assistants, but he is the one who put them in the hole with his poor decisions. I guess I'm not a good judge of this, because I thought his gingerbread general - that he himself gushed over - was pathetic. I like Jordon a lot, and his grasshopper and fox were fine. I was completely taken out of the Alice character by those huge hairy arms. Why didn't he quickly trim that fur? I haven't been a huge Matt fan, but he really deserved the win. His two original characters were great, and his Alice was the only one that looked at all decent. My biggest surprise: How well the movie came together. Very cute. Would have liked to have seen Mr. Westmore one more time.
