  1. Much as I love Max and am glad he's still alive - but why didn't they get the flight recorder first thing instead of literally waiting until the last minute? I know., plot induced stupidity but still. I also have to say what an amazing actor Mandy Patinkin is, I wasn't a Criminal Minds fan, but he is just wonderful in this.
  2. I love Bill Pullman but this is getting ridiculous. SO BORING. Arrest this guy already. Watching him week after week - ugh. Sorry, Jamie actor - you're just not compelling enough to carry this (or maybe it's the writing). This is whatever the opposite of suspense is. They tell us all along that Jamie killed that guy, so what. It doesn't advance the story at all. The was a one and done character, we already know that Jamie is mentally deteriorating. Are we supposed to care now that Bill's grandson is - gasp - in danger?
  3. Bear Paw Pizza (I think that's the name): I don't know if the restaurant is still around but in the 3 month update, that toxic co-owner looked a million times better. This show probably saved his life, too bad it couldn't get him to lose those ratty dreads. I had to laugh at the cook who couldn't eat pasta without getting some on the floor (hey, I'd be nervous, too) and Gordon's disgust, and the other one who couldn't stretch the pizza dough.. Both restaurants are in the running for the grossest, most disgusting kitchens. It seems like actually getting a chef who knows what he's doing can go far in turning the place around. Who knew? Jermaine may be a nice guy, but he clearly has been babied for far too long. His complete inability to recite the special - just one! l (with Gordon hovering over him like the angel of death) showed how lazy he is. I'm always amazed at how loyal the staff people of these places are. Most of the times, the owners don't deserve them. The owners get a big benefit from the show (especially if it is fixed up and sold), I'd like to think the staff could share in that.
  4. Loved seeing Alan Tudyk. I thought everything was pretty funny, especially Fred Armisen. I don't know if it was intentional but in the waiting room, Larry completely ignored the person of color - I'd say that's pretty typical of the show (except for Leon, of course). Are guys really going to wait for the urinal thing to adjust to their appropriate level? Liked the dog, what a good actor.
  5. That was dreadful. Super boring and pretentious. And I'm a huge Ulrich Thomsen fan. What a waste of what should have been a thrilling episode. The few minutes with Sofia and Voiello were more interesting and dynamic than the rest of the hour combined. I was sick of Jude Law (except in the opening sequence, ha ha), and his incessant smoking. Yes, I know, symbolic but who cares. Hated the death of the dog, although that's probably the only thing John M. cares about enough to cause him to suffer and confess as he did.
  6. I sure hope Voiello isn't sidelined, he's always been the most interesting character to me. I loved how he dealt with the nuns' issues. I just started watching this season, but may have missed it: Who's this Essence character with the cockroaches threatening Sofia?
  7. This episode really made me rethink my approach to this show. For all my dislike of the gross kitchens, disgusting food and screaming dysfunctional people (especially family drama), I guess I do prefer that over this type of low key episode which I found boring in the extreme. The problem with the restaurant was easily diagnosed - the mother, as is so often the case,, micromanaging because she feels like she has to. And maybe she does. I have to wonder if there was really a LOT of editing here, or acting for the camera. I find it hard to believe that someone who REPEATEDLY interrupted Chef Ramsey could see the light without major intervention. I think there must have been some really straight talking that wasn't shown. I didn't think the food was all that bad (yeah, one pork chop was over cooked, and I do love a lot of parsley), but they didn't show any unsanitary conditions or abusive staff behavior. I do think the staff probably was slacking off, knowing that Mama wouldn't fire them. The cooks seemed reasonably competent, and the restaurant decor was fine (except for those white tablecloths). Speaking of - what an underwhelming "make over." Southern is not the always synonymous with Louisiana, so what was the point of the keyboard wall and jazz singers? Why the stage? And, since I'm on a bit of a rant - can Gordon learn a new adjective in addition to "beautiful," please. Beautiful salmon, beautifully cooked, on a bed of beautifully herbed rice. We get it.
  8. Seafarers/halterman What, those parents are the most selfish people in the world. I really dislike them, which is unusual for me, way to ruin your family. They are clearly responsible for the sisters' dysfunctional relationship (or, made no attempt to resolve it) over the years and even when given the chance to speak directly to their daughters, didn't do anything. That one sister was so awful I didn't even feel sorry for her when that line cook broke up with her (on TV!) without a second's hesitation. Poor Amber and her children. I don't know if the restaurant is still in business, but I hope it is so that Amber can sell it and do what she wants with her life. Same for Logan, what a sweetheart. I felt bad for him during that dinner service, which I think would have been hard even for a more experienced cook (entirely new menu, packed restaurant with everyone coming in at the same time). So I guess the whole point of those costumes was so someone could make a "revolting" joke?
  9. Same here. Kenny is still my favorite, although I've appreciated the various pathologists. I have to say that I like the series a million times more than the books.
  10. S11E12: Ka-Pop (ancient grain-sorghum-popped chips) I can report that these are very good, but you should stay away from the rosemary-garlic flavor unless you REALLY like garlic (I do, and threw a few into my vegetable tortellini soup).
  11. I thought the Ka-pop sounded so good that I already ordered a variety pack. I also liked the guy, he seems like a good business person to work with. While I understand the point of the anti-allergy supplements and how the title relates to that, I thought the name by itself was confusing. I thought it seemed liked a good product though. Selling through pediatricians is a good idea. I don't see how the calorie count for the coconut shake could be so low, 1 c of shredded coconut meat has 283 calories. Unless, of course, there isn't that much actual coconut and it's mostly coconut liquid or water. Generally, a much less annoying set of entrepreneurs, although the rope floss guy came pretty close. Hate criers and sob stories, make a point of never supporting them by buying their products.
  12. No disrespect to anyone who liked this, but I'm sorry, I thought it was so dreadful I didn't even watch the whole thing (I know, maybe it got better. . . ) First, let me say I liked both the books and the prior movie, and I very much like both Russell Hornsby and (especially) Michael Imperioli. Not a fan of the generic female, although they were obviously trying hard to give her a personality. I watch a lot of Sci Fi, so am used to suspending disbelief but this was ridiculous. The scene that got me was when Ameilia gets the subway train to stop by firing her gun. The driver had to have already seen her standing right on the tracks waving her flashlight, so what was the point of the shooting? Somehow the laws of motion and inertia etc can be changed by shooting at the large metal object hurtling down the tracks? Drama for drama's sake, I guess. I really wish the writing were better.
  13. I understand the limitations in terms of the bakers not having a lot of time to practice or use unique ingredients or baking aids as compared to the GBBO, but this iterasion really left me underwhelmed. I admit that I was team Dana from the beginning, but she did not excel in these episodes. I wonder if she was dinged because the budino (new term to me!) was not a baked good, as someone above noted, this is a BAKING not dessert generally show, although the judges didn't say anything about it. Some ranting, sorry: (1) Advertisers: You're not helping yourself with those awful hosts, I can't be the only one liberally using the fast forward; and (2) Can they drop the pretense that this is some kind of winter holiday show, or make it a summer holiday? You're not fooling anyone by making those poor souls wear jackets.
  14. I'm a huge fan of the GBBO, but this version is becoming unwatchable. I really dislike the hosts (and FF whenever they're on screen) as well as the exaggerated facial reactions of some of the contestants (here's not looking at you, Sarita). I don't expect the bakes to be as good or as elaborate as the British version since they can't practice during the week, but the dumbing down, especially for the technicals, is getting ridiculous. Cinnamon buns? Cheesecake? Come on. Maybe they should have been given Instant Pots to make #17 cheesecake. There isn't one contestant that I especially like (although Dana and Tanya seem ok) nor has there been any bake that I'd want to do. The flavor combos are either weird or just so common (chocolate and orange, chocolate and banana). And matcha never seems to work. I was disappointed in this week - I love spices and desserts, but really hoped for something different. I really don't want to see another gingerbread house unless it is spectacular, which I don't think is every going to be possible in this format. Speaking of spices - did everyone have to use cinnamon? There are lots of other spices in the world, I would have liked to see some middle eastern baked goods.
  15. I'm absolutely loving Ruth Wilson, which more than absolves her from the hot mess that the Affair devolved to. I thought the bear CGI was terrific. In fact, the whole look of the show is great. If I were Roger, I'd be really nervous about the welcome he's getting from Lord Asriel. On the other hand, he is by far my least favorite character, so I wouldn't mind if he gets sacrificed or something. (read the books long long ago, don't really remember much).
  16. S2E10 Wow, that was depressing. What a shit day for Ray, starting with his brother soiling himself, losing his job (and, I guess Freddy's friendship such as it was) , seeing his father, getting into that brutal fight - and then losing his dog. I wish they hadn't done that with the dog, but I assume they figured they needed to make it really personal for Ray. I also didn't like the editing, there should have been some indication of what happened with his father. I assumed something was going to happen when Ray sent Brit back into the house. I liked this series because of the humor, but there was little of it here.
  17. I thought the shoe decorations were awful and clunky looking. The idea of adding accessories to shoes is nothing new - i remember buying different bows and things for my children's' shoes many years ago (they also had them for adult shoes). I always tune out when the personal stories (especially when accompanied by tears) come out, so I have no idea of the background of the woman (who seems like a terrific businesswoman) . The peanut butter pump really wasn't very practical. It takes up a ton of space, is probably going to clog and I guarantee will be difficult to clean. I've never had a problem cleaning out a jar of peanut (or any nut) butter, and I eat it all the time. I get what I guess Kevin calls "artisanal" peanut butter - made in small batches by a guy in Virginia, and made only with peanuts and a little oil. No added sugar, no sodium. and it's delicious and does not need to be refrigerated. I hated the shake thing (I never heard whatever expression they were referring to, so had no clue about "Yard"), it just seemed like having a shake as a meal replacement would appeal to a limited market. They were expensive, and while I don't mind getting some ice cream every so often, I can't be the only person trying to cut down on sugar consumption, even on vacation or an outing. I am a major dog parent, but we don't wear the same clothes, in fact I have never dressed her up, although she does have some nice collar covers for the holidays). I think T-shirts would work better on the dog line, but I liked the people. In fact, the more I think about it, the more offended (in a minor way, this isn't a rant) - why can't people let their dogs just be the wonderful animals they are without embarrassing them? Generally I have to say that it is so obvious that many of these people only want a deal with Mark. I realize that he is the wealthiest, and has a professional sports team but I am tired of him refusing to permit the entrepreneurs to listen to other deals. That's bullying (sort of), and it puts the poor people at a real disadvantage, They should cycle him off for a season or two.
  18. I really liked the knife business, I would totally send my knives for sharpening, and I don't think $10/knife is a lot. My problem is the 4 knife minimum, I just don't have that many knives. A 2 or 3 knife option is something I would go for. I have an electric knife sharpener, it works well enough but just not as well as a real knife sharpener with better equipment. Agree - the guy totally looked like Freddy Mercury, ha ha. I thought the bug thing looked gimmicky, Hope it works, I might be interested, I spend a lot of time outdoors. Love the snacks - and the guy. I thought he was great. I'm glad he finally got a deal. I hope he redoes the packaging though. The Plop star - I thought that was a well designed product, and I think there is a HUGE need for something like that. I think the people who create the problem, though, are not the ones likely to carry this around. I can see hotels, restaurants, movies, offices and other public places having aa basket of these out.
  19. I thought it was great, I was absolutely mesmerized. Regina King is amazing, but all the cast is excellent. I thought it was visually interesting, and I had no problem following the story line except for one thing: I thought the police chief would have been more security conscious when he left the house, knowing what he did that the Kavalry was back. I assume the baby girl will turn up somewhere. I thought Regina King (Sister Night?) was her, then realized the baby would have been older, a few years younger than Lou Gossett, Jr. I liked a lot of the little touches, like the police chief using the guy's mask (Looking Glass?) as a mirror when he was getting dressed.
  20. I see Adam Beach is still one of the worst actors around,. I haven't seen him in years, but I remember how stiff he is. Generally, I thought it was ok, once I got over changing Nancy's hair from blond to red, and the wholesale change in her "friends" George and Bess. I thought the ending was quite confusing, it seemed to indicate Bess had more involvement with the victim (I assume she came upon the body and stole the ring, although I have no idea why, isn't she supposed to be rich?). Liked seeing Scott Wolf again. I'll keep watching, at least for now.
  21. I'm more mystified by anyone paying $44 for 6 pieces of fake (wheat) chicken. is the breading really that good, or were the sharks really hungry? I couldn't believe they turned down that deal. They really are terrible business people. Liked the facial yoga person, but how could anyone make any money investing in it? It would have to build up a base so that franchising could be a possibility. I was surprised none of the sharks identified it as a pre-business (although maybe they did and I wasn't paying attention). Her outfit was amazing, though. Amazing and somewhat creepy, I guess. I liked the air guys, that was a good product and they clearly knew what they were doing. Glad they got a deal. I don't think much education is necessary, everyone knows oxygen will make you feel better.
  22. Agree, absolutely can't stand the cop. Ridiculous, completely out of step with the rest of the characters who actually are realistic albeit quirky. I stopped watching last season because he had so much screen time. Weren't there any consequences for him being totally responsible fro some guy almost losing his arm? Otherwise, 2 episodes in I'm liking this. Glad they didn't draw out the fake drama of whether Martin would lose his job (it's the whole show!), don't know why they didn't recommend desensitization for him, or other actions directed to his phobia, not his superior medicals kills.
  23. Could someone explain the last scene with the fisherman/salvage guy, the cop and the magnetized (sort of) car? Does this indicate that they were somehow helping the hammered guy complete his task of getting rid of the car? Or, were they hiding the car for their own reasons, and expecting to retrieve it later? I'm enjoying it quite a bit, except for the plot device/.reporter.
  24. Didn't like it as much as I thought I would - it just got more and more unrealistic as the show went on (ie, that ridiculous cell/office, not one of those competent cops getting the BDSM angle, that completely inappropriate name "Bright" that Malcolm/Tom picked for himself, that a cop would instantly believe a little boy that a well-known surgeon was going to kill him for some unknown reason) but I'm willing to give it some time since this is the pilot. My favorite thing: VIC - very important cadaver.
