  1. The Lay's truffle fries chips were pretty good. I also broke down and tried the southern biscuits and gravy chips. They tasted like very mild sausage.
  2. He may just be confused by the giant picture of himself next to the definition in the dictionary. His message didn't come across as sincere to me - especially with all of the revisions. Seems like he should have gotten it right the first time, not changed it repeatedly, probably based on the advice of PR people/public response.
  3. Thanks! I'll add both Missolua and The Price of Silence to my reading list.
  4. Speaking of John Krakauer, has anyone read Missoula? I generally love his books but this one just may make me too angry to enjoy.
  5. I'm using Simple eye makeup remover pads and they are working well without irritating my eyes.
  6. Timothy Oliphant vs Walton Goggins
  7. Speaking of crinkle fries, I had them today at Shake Shack today. I actually had crinkle fries with cheese, as well as a Shack Burger, which is just a cheeseburger with lettuce and tomato. I found a pretty good recipe for "fake shack" burgers on the Serious Eats site so I've been making them at home (well, only twice). I think I like a thin patty better than a thick burger.
  8. Steak, corn, and garlic bread all on the grill. I also made a tomato and corn pie for tomorrow. You guys inspire me to get in to the kitchen more often!
  9. I have a couple of interns this summer and while by and large they dress appropriately, they have worn shorts, tank tops and very casual flip flops. I work in an business casual large office where no one wears shorts. I think it's a lack of observing the people around them and gauging what's appropriate. I also teach a graduate level course and on the last day of class we talk about job hunting. I mention dressing well for the interview and I always get a few eye-rolls. It seems like they are from the students who show up 15 minutes late and wearing pajama pants.
  10. I've had good luck with Stila. Also, Pixie, which is sold at Target.
  11. I love Vietnamese food too! My favorite in the summer is "bun" which is a vermicelli noodle bowl. There are different types of bun, but they all have very thin rice noodles, julienned carrots, cucumber and shredded lettuce. You can choose grilled meat, chicken or shrimp, and often tofu (I love the grilled pork). Then there is a small bowl of a thin sauce called nuoc cham that you pour over the noodles and vegetable. It's a combination of fish sauce (no fish, just slightly sour and salty), a little sugar, a touch of lime and perhaps some garlic and a touch of chili pepper (it's not spicy hot). It is a perfect meal on a hot day.I wish my local Vietnamese restaurant delivered, for I am seriously lazy today.
  12. AuntLada, can you also open both before 8am but not after? What's up with that?!
  13. Today's pet peeve - my workplace blocked this site! Now what am I supposed to do on my lunch hour? Also blocked, Eonline.com. Jerks.
  14. Hugs and good thoughts for you and Figaro. And licks on the top of Figaro's head from my kitty Emma, which is her way of solving all problems.
  15. I'm pretty sure that Jessa doesn't understand half of the words in that quote.
  16. Thanks for all of the advice! Lily has a clean bill of health. She has a new litter box and a different litter, so we'll see how it goes.
  17. Thanks, Harrie! The UTI was my first thought too, but she doesn't have any of the usual symptoms (going frequently, straining, blood, etc.) Still, better safe than sorry, so off to the vet for her. The box is in its usual out of the way place, with the same litter and no other changes (other than my obsessing litter box scooping). Since it's in my office, and I work from home some days, I do get to observe her using it. If I'm in the office she uses it correctly. If no one's around to notice, that's when she puddles on the floor. I kind of think she's just being weird about the litter box, as she is about so many things. She'll get some weird quirk and do it for months, then suddenly stop, so it's not unheard of behavior from her. Perhaps this is just a variation on the 2009-2010 "I must sit on the edge of the tub while you take a shower, then get into the tub when you're done" habit. That went on for almost 2 years then she just stopped and hasn't done it again.
  18. I need some advice. One of my cats is peeing outside the box. Right outside the box, like right in front of it. Not all of the time, but pretty much once a day. We clean the box multiple times a day, and wash it once a week. We just bought a new litter box but that hasn't helped. Our temporary solution is to put a pee pee pad in front of the box to make the cleanup easier. I don't think it's a medical problem but she's going to the vet to be sure. Any ideas?
  19. I am officially tired of potato chips and am back to real food. Tonight is grilled figs with blue cheese and prosciutto and grilled bread. Tomorrow is tacos. I'm also making a batch of pesto pasta salad with chicken sausage for the week. But just in case I bought a big bag of pretzels.
  20. I remember the A&W with the car trays! I was lucky enough to grow up near the original A&W in Iowa which is still there, although no car trays now. Somehow a root beer float doesn't tast quite the same if it's not in a frosty mug.
  21. I've now had potato chips for dinner 3 nights in a row. I hate food in summer. Unless it's in an air-conditioned restaurant. Alas, my house is not equipped with central air or a chef, so chips it is.
  22. I once had to put a cone on one of my cats. It was funny & pitiful at the same time. The funniest was when she tried to go through a doorway. If the cone came into the slightest contact with the frame, kitty would just sit down and wait for someone to pick her up and put her on the other side of the door. Without peripheral vision she didn't know she just had to move a inch in one direction and she'd be fine.
