Bummed that we lost Carrassco, but 10 scoreless innings from 8 relievers to win and drop the magic number to 7. Go, Tribe! It reminds me of a few years ago when the nine Astros relief pitchers no-hit the Yankees after the starter got hurt in warm up. When they got back to the locker room, the Yankees had put a bottle of champagne in each pitcher's locker.

I always find that interesting as well, kariyaki. It applies to individual players, too. You can have the best pitcher who is lights out with every other player in the majors, but there is always that one batter who hits him no matter what. What does he see that no one else does? I love baseball.

What annoys me about Tim Tebow and baseball is suddenly calling baseball his "passion" when we all know that if he could throw a NFL pass he would still be playing football. He gave up baseball in high school. We aren't his passion, we are the girlfriend he dumped because he thought another girl was hotter and now that she won't give him the time of day he's sauntered back home deciding we don't look so bad and should be happy he wants to get back together. I also don't look forward to hearing from his fans again because you just know what's coming: "He can't hit a curve ball." "You're anti-Jesus!" No, I am very pro-Jesus, and Tim still can't hit a curve ball.

Not the first bad call; not the last. To me, not worse than the 28-out no hitter that Joyce blew. I dislike the linked article calling Tito's response "coy." He says he wasn't sure when he saw it live, that the umpires didn't have the advantage of replay on that one while the rest of us did, that you hate to have bad calls in games, that the Tribe have been on the wrong end of bad calls, and that Joyce gives you all he's got so it's hard to be mad when he makes a mistake. I don't know what part of that is "coy."
  5. She and Carrie Bradford must have the same connection.
  6. When I google her name, I don't get anything beyond the brownies and this show. Could someone please give us the link to her rap sheet? Kevin and Stefani deserve better than to work at this place. Has no one heard of Zoup!? The idea of franchising a soup, salad, and sandwich place isn't as revolutionary as Marcus was making it out to be.
  7. I forgot how much I love the scene when Monica's dad visits her after she breaks up with Richard. It made sense that he would be the one to check on Monica, and I love that after she goes to sleep he takes advantage of grabbing the cigar and watching TV at her place. They did a good job of showing the parents just the right amounts and at the right times.
  8. My first guess was affair, but I did end up believing that Grace totally did not share Dave's feelings. The owner irritated me from the beginning because, of course the best way to honor your beloved partner's memory is to screw over his family. Not saying he did anything illegal (that comes later), but patting himself on the back that he knew the estate undervalued the interest really bothers me. Hope it hadn't all settled before this show aired and they could renegotiate the buy-out, but then again maybe the estate knew about the EEOC filing and just wants to cut all ties with this loser. Anyway, the executor should have needed to hire a professional to value the stores for estate tax purposes if nothing else; all the data Marcus wanted should have been readily available. I didn't completely agree with Marcus, but I did think his soup selection just needed balance. You have to know and disclose the nutritional value of each, and just make sure you have broth choices along with the heavier fare. I don't know that I would love the pretzel idea with the soup (I like my baguette, although not if it tasted frozen), but Dave clearly took to it by making it into dessert fare as well so I don't understand his dumping the pretzels for ice cream of all things. I cannot believe that Dave admitted everything about Grace on air. That is one of those settlement scenarios that ends with "How many zeros should I add after this number, Grace?" Did anyone else think it was strange that they had the big blow up about not inviting Grace to the opening and then she left after it was supposedly resolved?!? I wanted to see how Dave's wife reacted when Grace walked in with Dave and Marcus. That would have been some good television. I can't imagine her job is necessarily all that safe anymore at the university. Nothing a school likes better than to have parents know their children will be around a lurker.
  9. I remember Farrell's in the mall outside Houston. It was too expensive for our family, though, so it was a big deal to share an ice cream from there or be invited to a birthday party. There is a Bob Newhart episode that I always thought spoofed Farrell's: "Single scooper, single scooper, this man is a party pooper."
  10. Make a Wish released a picture of Derek with an 11-year old girl battling leukemia who wanted to dance with him. The host said he was wonderful, stayed longer than planned, surpassed all expectations, and made her day. Nice to hear!
  11. Rachel told Ross she wanted a break from them and then told Monica that she broke up with Ross. She doesn't get to backtrack to get more sympathy. My favorite scene is Hugh Laurie on the plane telling her off after being subjected to her story.
  12. I was truly surprised at how good he was.
  13. I agree that Feigen was left holding the bag, which is unfair, but I do wonder how he thought he could explain giving money to security guards without explaining why and have it not look like he was reporting a robbery. What a mess over a torn poster and wet, smelly grass.
  14. Actually, the men have a better argument for why their medals should count. They beat China, who had just recently won worlds by beating the teams that boycotted. I remember the hue and cry after people realized how bad Kerri's ankle was, and I also remember someone finally pointing out that if she had been a 19 year old man those same people would have talked about his courage and toughness in gutting it out for the team.
  15. There are many times that I know the Academy Award is truly for the previous year's performance. For instance, Judi Dench was wonderful in Shakespeare in Love, but I think it is pretty clear she was really winning for Mrs. Brown. Lots of other examples to choose from.
  16. I can't remember if I have mentioned this one before, but Stepmom is already a bad film and this scene makes me want to punch something. Julia Roberts and Susan Sarandon are finally bonding over their love for the dying Susan's children when Julia says that she is scared she will be getting the daughter ready for her wedding and the daughter will be thinking about Susan's character. Susan's response is that her fear is the same scene, but that her daughter won't be thinking about her. I am sure that the writers patted themselves on the back for their brilliant writing, but seriously? Did they just have Julia tell Susan that she would be disappointed if her stepdaughter missed her dead mother at her wedding? How selfish and narcissistic can you be? How Susan didn't punch her I don't know.

The Tribe are getting it done in style!
  18. Nothing tops badminton, but last night's story was great and Bob definitely loved it. I enjoy moments like that and the Simone/Aly interview when you can tell Bob loves whomever he is talking to.
  19. If this story as we now know it holds up as correct, then I am not just angry as a fellow US citizen, but as a fellow human being on this planet. You screw up and every time you are given an opportunity to come clean, you choose not to. You cause untold harm to a place that has invited you to be there, to a country that has given you the honor of representing it, to true victims who now find it that much harder to be believed when they report a crime, and to friends and others whose trust you betrayed. You had so many chances to make the right choice, and yet you continued to make the wrong ones. That is called "character," my friend, and all the Olympic medals in the world cannot make up for its absence.
  20. I wonder if someone left his wallet in an undesirable place and needed cover, like members of the U. S. basketball team accidentally finding themselves in a brothel. That is the only scenario that comes close to making sense if these four lied about something like this. At this point I hope they were robbed, as strange a wish as that is.
  21. Is Ashton claiming Gabby's final bar performance meant she should have been chosen instead? Maybe I don't understand her tweet. I hope I don't.
  22. She calls her surgeon her MVP. Listening to the Brazilian fans boo some of the athletes and loudly cheer their mistakes during their performances has soured me on the place. I find myself now rooting against their team members. Hope Brazil doesn't take gold here.
  23. Thanks for the clarification, zanzibar. Still a very cool thing I hadn't seen before. Usain talking about defending his gold? Easy to get confused which Olympics. I should have checked the date.
  24. Have you seen the video of Bolt being interviewed? He heard the US National anthem start in the background and stopped the interview so that they could show their respect. I love this man!
