  1. From People: Oprah Winfrey’s Mom, Vernita Lee, Dies at Age 83 on Thanksgiving The interesting thing is, if you Google her, where they list people associated with her, Oprah’s longtime companion Steadman Graham is listed as Ms. Lee’s son-in-law. As we all know, the couple got engaged but never actually married.
  2. Wasn’t Zoey scared of birds when she was younger, or was it bugs? (Throwing it out to everybody) I swear Jen talked about it in an earlier season. If she was scared of birds, it’s cool she loves them now.
  3. I think in an earlier season Jen said the kids would eat pretty much anything that was put in front of them, & that had to do with the food situations when they spent time in orphanages/group homes before their adoptions. I also remember, in the episode where Bill’s mom went with them to sightsee/shop at Grand Central Station, they stopped to eat at (I’m pretty sure) a Junior’s Cheesecake restaurant inside the Station, & Jen or Bill did a voiceover saying they finally found something Will didn’t like to eat during that meal. He apparently doesn’t like pickles (unless he’s grown to like them since). I don’t like pickles either, so we’d be good company at meals.
  4. Whomever typed the menu (I assume from the restaurant) for posting needed to proofread it better. Just saying. But the choices still looked interesting (though I’d have probably only eaten the courses with the turkey & the dessert—I’m a picky eater).
  5. They sell/sold it at the Motown Cafe restaurants; I once had it at the restaurant they used to have in Las Vegas; Grand Lux Cafe, a sister restaurant to Cheesecake Factory, also sells it—but they make it with chicken strips/fingers instead of pieces like breasts, legs, etc (which I think is a cop out). I think IHOP also has it & makes it with strips. KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) has it through the end of the year. They have it as the original chicken & waffles or a piece of chicken between 2 waffles “sandwich”. The KFC website says you can get either version of chicken & waffles with Original Recipe chicken too; the linked article doesn’t mention that.
  6. Ray Liotta’s the “Ray” who talks about how he finally quit smoking in the current Chantix commercials.
  7. From Billboard: Scott English, Producer, ‘Brandy’ Songwriter, Dead at 81 His song “Brandy” was the song that became “Mandy”, the first #1 hit for both singer Barry Manilow & Clive Davis’ then-fledging record label, Arista Records.
  8. From Variety: Wayne Maunder, 1960’s Western Star, Dies at 80
  9. Thanks for the correction there’s no actual recall... at least not yet. Our local media made it sound like there was, so I posted it here out of an abundance of caution. Besides, it’s still an advisory for consumers not to eat something because an outbreak of apparently food-borne illness has been associated with it, & passing along that kind of info is 1 of the purposes of this board.
  10. And a Romaine Lettuce Recall. If you have Romaine Lettuce, DON’T EAT/USE IT! An E.coli outbreak involving Romaine Lettuce has sickened 32 people in 11 states, according to the CDC. The linked article is from USA Today.
  11. Will’s middle name is his Chinese first name, Rijin (Rye-gin); Zoey’s middle name is her Indian first name, Nidhi (rhymes with “Diddy”, as in “P. Diddy”). As I remember, Will had another first name at another placement agency. I think it was Jedediah, or something like that.
  12. Brooklyn Decker (aka Mrs. Andy Roddick—he’s a retired former world #1, I think, men’s tennis player) is doing a very good job with her role. I cannot stand Briana at all! I wish they’d find something to make her more redeemable in some way, than have her just be the über bitch the character is, or they’d write her out (I’m either at the end of S3 or the beginning of S4... only subscribed to Netflix in September). I only watch Briana’s scenes to see if she can possibly get any bitchier than she is—which I can’t see is possible.

  16. Roy Clark was another of the celebrities I was fortunate to be able to meet. This time, as a “civilian”—backstage before a concert he did in my hometown before I became involved with the March of Dimes & began meeting more celebrities than I could count, sometimes faster than my mother (who was my chaperone) or I could count them. Thankfully, like most of the celebs I met, Roy Clark was very nice to a then 7-year-old girl who was attending his concert.

  18. Thanks for reminding me about “elective”. I’m the kid of 2 former medical/nursing professionals (1 deceased almost 2 years ago), plus I’ve had way more than my share of hospitalizations & procedures myself, so you’d think I’d remember the word “elective”, in the medical/hospital sense, easier. Maybe I can remember it better now, since (finally... sometimes I’m a late bloomer) noticing “emergency” & “elective” both start with E. I thought I’d remembered Mr. Sheen’s surgery was between S2 & S3; I did remember he returned home right before Christmas & there was a picture in various celebrity media sources of him holding a pillow showing the anatomy of the heart, with all the blood vessels. His son Emilio also acted as spokesman for the family during his illness, as I remember. I still find it rather ironic that Mr. Sheen & his character both went through cardiac surgery within about 2 years of each other.
  19. Late to the party, but let’s just embrace the fact that I showed up at all, as they used to say on the last show Ms. Tomlin & Mr.Sheen co-starred in. At some point after this show started (I forget which season they were filming/about to start filming at the time), Mr. Sheen had real life heart bypass surgery during a Christmas break between seasons (I forget how many blood vessels were involved; I wanna say 4) that wasn’t classified as emergency surgery—more like proactive (I think that’s the right word), taking care of an issue before it becomes bigger & more dangerous/life threatening. Having binge watched this ep early this morning, I wondered if it was merely a coincidence that Robert also had heart surgery, or if it was written in because of Mr. Sheen’s recovery period from his real life cardiac surgery. Does anyone know/remember how the cardiac events were connected?
  20. It was the same idea, a small town in New England (New Hampshire), with a very small population of legal voting age, is the first to vote in each election, usually shortly after midnight on Election Day morning; but they gave the town a fake name in this ep & in The West Wing. In TWW, the town was called Hartsfield’s Landing & mentioned in their S3. It had a different name, which I’m confused on the spelling of, in this ep. In reality, we mainly hear of Dixville Notch, NH, in school & wherever (at least I did), but there’s another town, Hart’s Location, NH, which also votes shortly after midnight on the early morning of Election Day.
  21. This YouTube video is supposed to be of every cameo appearance ever made by Stan Lee, 1989-2018 If it isn’t, don’t shoot the messenger; I’m just going by the info provided.
