  1. The other day, at the end of GMA, they aired a generic promo for the show. In the promo, at 1 point, there’s a clip of Robin saying something like “You don’t know how it feels to be able to say ‘Good morning America’ every day.” I found that rather ironic since A) She wasn’t on the show that morning, with no reason given for her absence, as usual (they could at least use the all purpose “on assignment” excuse)—& I do get this is the week before Christmas & all the anchors will be off at some point through the end of the year because of the holidays being national & federal ones observed all over the country, & so that’s probably where she was. and... B) Even if she hadn’t been off that day, Robin hasn’t said “Good morning America” at the top of the show everyday in I can’t remember how long—& yes I’m cutting her slack on that in regards to her extended sick leaves for her Breast Cancer & Myelodysplasia Syndrome treatment & recovery periods. I just find it rather disingenuous to have her talk about saying “Good morning America” at the top of the show everyday in a show promo when she actually always seems to be gone & NOT saying that phrase at the top of the show (at least when this regular viewer watches).
  2. Benny is Murphy & Avery’s disabled dog Murphy adopted & saved from euthanasia at an animal shelter about 3 episodes ago (I think), once she saw him as an example of the available dogs. After Murphy met him, after she was dragged along on Corky’s live shot marking National Dog Adoption Day, she realized that the “E” beside his shelter name (which was a number I forget now) on a list of available dogs meant he was scheduled to be put down very soon because he hadn’t been adopted by whatever the timeframe is in an animal shelter between arrival & euthanasia due to overcrowding or whatever. That got to her & she took the dog home. She mentioned Avery had been wanting a dog since he was a kid (but, she may have added, Murphy wasn’t sure if he’d be responsible for it or she’d end up taking care of it, so she never got him 1). Benny (Bennie?) is paralyzed (in real life too) & wears a “doggie wheelchair” on his lower half, which apparently reminded Avery of Ben-Hur sitting in his chariot & was the genesis of his current name.
  3. From Twitter: VIDEO Preview for the January 4th Episode (Episode 9.11) SPOILER WARNING FOR THOSE WHO DON’T LIKE TO KNOW CHARACTER RELATED INFO AHEAD OF TIME: This video introduces a new, hopefully (as far as I’m concerned) recurring character who’s related to another recurring character (& pretty much a chip off the old block, it appears).

  6. I just got a Breaking News notification on my iPhone that actress/director Penny Marshall has died at age 75. Details to come... Unless someone beats me to them.
  7. If 9/11’s being taught in schools now/yet probably depends on when their textbook was written & finally published after being written, then when the school/school district/school system involved adopted the book for use after publication & how long the agreement for using it specified it would be used by the schools involved. That’s what happened in my school system. We changed textbooks in our subjects every certain number of years.
  8. I knew. The wheelchair reminded Avery of Ben Hur’s chariot.
  9. Honor Flight, at least in my hometown I’m pretty sure (they’ve said it on our local TV news), takes vets from any war to see “their” memorial in Washington, not just WWII vets (though mostly vets from the older wars—through Korea & Vietnam—do seem to go, as opposed to veterans of recent wars, like the Gulf War &/or the War on Terror). I’m pretty sure they visit all the war-related monuments (& possibly other monuments before flying back after their day trip).
  10. That explains why he didn’t seem to be in it too much, but I also figured out that was the reason he wasn’t while watching. He actually started directing either during the show’s original run or after it ended & has directed other episodic TV shows. I don’t know if he thought he’d stop getting acting parts & decided to do that as another way to make money, or not.
  11. You can also watch it on CBS.com &/or the CBS app (I think the app’s better; I gave up trying to watch/watching CBS shows on the website after it directed me to watch something on the CBS app instead).

  13. Live with Kelly and Ryan does a similar thing all the time when they’re on vacation; they’ve been doing it since before Kelly Ripa either joined the show as Regis Philbin’s Co-Host, when Kathie Lee Gifford left, or when she became the top-billed Host after Regis either retired or was pushed out, possibly due to his age, depending on who’s opining on the departure. Their producers repackage old interviews that weren’t originally on Live in the same Live eps into a different ep, which airs during their vacation weeks, thereby making the ep seem “new”.

  15. As I remember, it was also a tactic to try to keep Santos from getting airtime he may have desperately wanted or needed (I can’t remember how much he needed the airtime). If Vinick keeps the TV (& probably radio) people busy, he can get more attention for his campaign & keep Santos from getting any/a lot of attention for his campaign.
  16. The thing of it is, though, cats are (compared to dogs, anyway) supposed to be loners & pretty self-sufficient. Or so I’ve heard more than once. So if you got a cat, it probably wouldn’t mind as much as you think that you weren’t there more than you were (compared to a dog/most dogs, anyway, who always want out of the house, or back into the house, or they want you to play with them, feed them, or something else).
  17. Don’t you mean Jimmy Buffett (Buffett is with 2 T’s, by the way)? Warren Buffett is an economics expert—I think—& maybe a wealthy man as well. I know he’s famous, but I can’t describe why very well.
  18. At least part of the reason Kevin Hart lost the Oscar Host gig was because The Academy asked him to apologize for what he said, although the comments were 10 years old & he (says he) already apologized for them in the past. This is from Deadline about the whole “lost the job because he won’t apologize as The Academy asked him to” thing.
  19. I’m old enough to know about Edgar & Candice Bergen & Charlie McCarthy. Although, as I remember, Candice had a rather contentious “relationship” with Charlie growing up (she apparently hated him, I remember hearing & reading). Even so, they were referred to as “siblings” by people (which Candice apparently didn’t like). So I think that might be at least partly where Murphy referring to Avery & 256/Benny as “siblings” in the ep came from. However, in my family (& a lot of families, I’m fairly certain) when I was growing up, we had 4 furry members who were with us longterm—up to 3 at 1 time; the 4th after the first 3 passed (we also had a couple who, unfortunately, weren’t manageable with our family life at the time & were returned to the person/place we got them from)—& we referred to them as if they were “siblings”, & other human type relatives (“son”, “daughter”, etc.), just as Murphy did. Especially after Avery (it looks like) lost his job at Wolf after refusing to read the politically oriented(?) statement written by the network that was apparently required on-air reading for all show anchors/hosts, & Murphy told the dog not to take a dump in Avery’s room before he came home because Avery (probably) wouldn’t be in a good mood when he got home from the location where he was doing his show that day/night & he’d need support from her & the dog. Murphy may not have specifically referred to Avery & the dog as “siblings” in that scene, but the idea that’s how she meant them to be was there (in my opinion).
  20. Well, the writers keep making up similar shows to Faux News Channel shows that are supposed to be on the Wolf Network—like Haggerty might be supposed to be a cross between Hannity & Fox & Friends (since the name is similar & it had 2 males & 1 female hosting). Plus, I rewatched the last 3 eps last night on the CBS app & they said something about the Wolf Network having started the Fake News stuff & discrediting legitimate journalists—all the stuff involving the MSM that’s happened during the current administration. Oddly enough, I may have hit the nail on the head with the Morning Joe comparison. Murphy said their show would be pre-empted on Thanksgiving for coverage of The Thanksgiving (she may not have said Macy’s) Parade & The National Dog Show. Although those shows air on the main NBC network & not MSNBC (except the dog show repeats on either MSNBC or CNBC), which is where Murphy’s show should be airing since it’s a cable show. Although the weird thing is they seem to be basing Murphy’s show on an MSNBC show, the show doesn’t (I don’t think) air “fluff” pieces like about the dog adoptions, & Murphy Brown airs on CBS.

  22. As I remember, FYI was more of a newsmagazine (20/20, Dateline, maybe 60 Minutes) type show than a straight news show. Murphy, Jim (if he did more than anchor), & Frank handled the “harder” news stories while Corky (who wasn’t thought to have had as much legitimate “news reporting cred” as the rest of the anchors given her status as a former Miss America—at least not in the original version of the show) handled the “fluff” type pieces. I’d buy that Murphy in the Morning is probably supposed to be more along the lines of at least CNN’s early morning news show in the 7-9AM Eastern timeslot (I forget what it’s called), but I’m not sure how it compares to either Fox’s Fox & Friends (which I think Avery’s competing Wolf Network morning show is/was supposed to be like), or MSNBC’s Morning Joe.
