Does anyone know what's holding up the robo-strike zone? That's the one rule change that I think most fans are for. And almost every broadcast has an unofficial version of it already.
  2. But wasn't that mostly of because of unforeseen/unknowable future circumstance? (flammability of old film stock, TV, digital content etc.) The current purge is a deliberate business decision. One interesting thing about a discussion of the corporate "disappearance" of digital information is that it is part of the reason Primetimer exists. This site is an offspring of the old Mighty Big TV/ Television Without Pity forums from the early 2000's that were taken offline after NBC purchased them. I lost over a decade of my online existence when they went offline. NBD for me, but I can't imagine what it is like for a creative whose work disappears. Torrents work on popularity. I don't think the kind of shows companies like Discovery are cutting are going to be available. Whose going to seed a torrent for the decades old episodes of Sesame Street that Discovery cut?

Does Nike only have one shirt for the men this US Open quarter final? Tiafoe Rublev Alcaraz
  4. This Washington Post overview on the changing landscape of TV streaming is wide ranging, brings up a point I hadn't thought about. As streamers cut costs by eliminating existing content, some shows might disappear altogether. All we will have are memories, an IMDB listing and maybe some YouTube clips. I imagine a warehouse like the one in Indiana Jones, filled with servers containing content never to be see again.
  5. Majority of minor league baseball players vote to support union, paving way for MLBPA membership Good for them.
  6. Harper truly believes her shit don't stink. They are really fragmenting the cast. In addition to Gus, it looks like Eric and Harper will be one story, Yasmin and Celeste at PWM another. It also sounds like DVD is headed back to New York and the rest of the floor is about to be purged. Is this leading to a season focusing on Eric and Harper if there is a season 3? What was Kenny's "prank"? I guess I don't watch enough telly. That was a lot of foresight to make this season about healthcare acquisitions with Amazon and CVS namechecked. Because that's actually what happened this summer. Amazon and CVS both put in bids for the startup One Medical. Amazon won. Yesterday, CVS acquired Signify Health in an $8 billion dollar deal. I doubt there was as much drama in those deals.

The Mets' next series is against my Pirates. They'll get back on track.

  10. When I was in high school, the local university had a second run movie theater in the student center. It was run by students, so they didn't care what you snuck in. Or what you did in the theater. So high school miscreants like me and my friends would drink beers from the six packs that we had smuggled in, and the college students would be smoking pot. Fun times.
  11. It's a money grab. More games = more revenue for the leagues and ESPN (or whichever network bids billions for the rights) NIL aside, I hope the players (who don't get any of that school/conference revenue) start demanding a piece of the pie off of that huge pile of money that schools are making off of their labor.
  12. "Dial it back!" Tim Roth's performance is almost enough to get me go back and rewatch the original version of Emil in The Incredible Hulk. Almost.
  13. One of the things that makes the Backyard Brawl a great rivalry game is the proximity of the two schools, about 80 miles apart so this rivalry is really personal. A lot of the kids have played against each other since Pop Warner. There are a lot of WVU alumni in Pittsburgh so you've got divided loyalties in neighborhoods, workplaces and even families. In a world where college football is increasingly becoming a product strictly for TV broadcast, the Brawl is real.

    The NBA

An amazing stat that was bouncing around ESPN today is that the last time the Knicks extended the contract of a rookie they had drafted was Charlie Ward back in the nineties. I remember those days. "Who is the best QB in the city? Charlie Ward!"
  16. Obviously the show left the audience with a lot of unanswered questions. But the one that really bugs me is, what does Devon see in Ricken? She seems self aware, has a sense of humor and seems to be empathetic. Ricken is none of those things. (And his "friends" are really weird.}

Unfortunately, this is not just a Bills' or NFL problem This country struggles to effectively deal with accusations of sexual abuse in general. Especially if the accused is good at sports, or making money for wealthy individuals, or making movies etc.
  18. I see that Fox worked hard to create the ultimate college football atmosphere for their open by pitting historic rivals Nebraska and Northwestern in front of the football rabid fans of Dublin Ireland.

They just got a billion dollars from the state of New York for a new stadium. They need to make this go away quick. I wouldn't be surprised if three guys are flying into Buffalo this morning to compete for the job.
  20. Fuck you Discovery! Laid-Off HBO Max Execs Reveal Warner Bros. Discovery Is Killing Off Diversity and Courting ‘Middle America’ I see that "Middle America" is still coded shorthand for "white, straight, Christians."
  21. Harper fucked over DVD immediately after fucking him. That is one cold, passive aggressive woman. Possible, but it feels like it would be difficult to pull off. Eric was able to return to the firm (and the trading floor) the first time because of his growth streak, his relationship with Felim and the resulting vote of confidence from Adler. All of that is gone now. He's been put out to pasture and I don't see a way back. (Although the writers are smart enough to prove me wrong.) Harper thinks she is bigger than the firm right now. If there is a change in her relationship with Bloom, I think he will be the one to kick her to the curb. I wonder if Gus' relationship with Bloom's son will be the reason. Another possibility is that Bloom believes that she is going to fuck him over, like she has everyone else. Yasmin's father is one shady dude, even when he is telling her the "truth".
  22. I felt bad when that company told me I should be buying offsets for breathing. Then I felt really bad when I laughed at the joke because that would cost me extra. Then John offered a solution to my problems! But I was too late and now I feel bad again. Nature Conservancy has a long history of getting tax credits for wealthy landowners who can game the system to get benefits to "protect" land that was never endangered. John didn't even get to mention that the newest offset plan is being started by Adam Neuman, who managed to burn billions of dollars of wealth as the founder/CEO of WeWork. And his plan is on the blockchain. What could go wrong?!?
  23. There is a payoff to Carmy's advice. When Sydney is cooking for Marcus she adds lemon juice and zest (acid), almost as an afterthought, as a finishing touch.
