I fell down this YouTube rabbit hole today. Over the last year, Ferrari has staged a friendly competition between Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz. They do trivial non racing stuff like play speed chess, play Pictionary etc. It's fun. My favorite competition is the cooking one. Good thing those boys have day jobs.
  2. I liked how Karen called out Dev's bullshit when she negotiated for the title of COO and an office with a door.. "Graham made a statement", I see what you did there writers. I thought her anger was justified. She considered him a friend (Hi Bob.) and he withheld information about finding water, a resource they desperately need. I am firmly on Team Dani. She has a history of sound leadership going back to bailing out Gordo at Jamestown, Apollo/Soyuz and the obstacles put in her way on the Mars mission. And the show managed a way to give him access to oxy and amphetamines! I wasn't familiar with Mazzy Star, but as soon as that song started playing it was clear who the person in the seat was. That mobile hab is sweet.
  3. I'm surprised that the owners of The Munsters' intellectual property rights went with Rob Zombie to helm the project. Because family friendly comedy is the last thing that comes to mind when I think of his movies.

I recently heard that LeVeon Bell and Adrian Peterson will be "boxing" each other on PPV. This makes me sad. And I say that as a fan of MMA/boxing.

I'm trying to remember, but has "Loud Wilbon" become more of a thing since they stopped the studio shows because of the pandemic? He seems so much more annoying now.

The biggest reason why Progressive didn't make the move with Baker is that the Panthers have Geico as a corporate sponsor. The whole premise that made the ads so successful would be a no go.
  7. A couple of things really bother me about Sugar. First of all, she's one of those people who believes that there is an "I" in "team". I this, I that, etc. Even when she says we, it seems kind of like a reluctant acknowledgement that she is not alone. It took me a couple of episodes before I realized the Mahogany is the cook, because I...I...I.. Relatedly, I also dislike the way she treats her team. They have repeatedly told her to give them time to set up before she starts sales and she repeatedly ignored them. So she gets to have fun doing her schtick outside while the two of them to take the blame for slow service. Unfortunately, I think Cheese may have come up with a winning formula. Make a popular comfort food and hold the earliest customers hostage and bank early sales by taking orders they know they can't fill in a timely basis. I think both Amewale and Senoreatas got swamped as they legitimately tried to serve customers early enough to compete with Cheese. But Sugar knew the early open strategy was a bait and switch fraud. I love how ESO is a highly competent, no drama team with the best food on the show. While Senoreatas was stripping down, ESO kept their image with their shirts buttoned up to the neck. However, I realize that none of that matters on a reality TV show. No Tyler, there was no "genius" in Cheese's nasty Frankenstein of a sandwich.

The big difference is that Heinz is no longer a Pittsburgh company. It was bought out by a Brazilian company infamous for its efforts to cut costs. At one point they considered retiring the Budweiser Clydesdales after they purchased Anheuser Busch.

All of the professional sports venues in Pittsburgh have always had naming rights held by a local company. That is until today. This morning it was announced that Heinz Field, home of the Steelers, is now Acrisure Stadium and Yinzers (natives of Pittsburgh) are big time mad. How dare a foreign (Michigan) company try to invade the Burgh!
  10. I put in time both in front of house and back of house in several family restaurants. The Bear is the best depiction of the business that I have seen. Sobriety issues, dealing drugs out the back door, ownership/staff reluctant to change, All of it rings true. Except the money in Pomodoro tomato cans. I don't know what this is. And I have some knowledge about industrial canning, which makes it even weirder.
  11. I talked with a friend who drove part of today's stage last month. He said it it felt a lot steeper than it looked in TV. -
  12. Russian astronaut: I don't remember any deal. Me: Beat his ass Dani! literally and figuratively. I can't with Margo. I don't care how much she rationalizes her actions, she's a spy. I've watched several NASA/JPL livestreams of Mars rover landings, and "Seven Minutes of Terror" is nerve racking even for a casual observer.

    MLB Thread

MLB Radio is running an ad that features scratchy historical sounding radio calls of memorable plays. Nothing that I recognized. No "The Giants win the pennant!" or "Go crazy folks!" although I think one of the voices might be Jack (not Joe) Buck. Then the tag line hits. "Baseball comes home , to Apple TV." Home? To Apple TV? Did I miss some decades long broadcast partnership that required a super secret handshake to access?

I firmly blame the owner, Jimmy Haslam, not the Browns as an organization. Giving up the draft picks, guaranteeing the whole contract, structuring the contract to protect Watson's money, and trading for guy with 24 26, a lot of sexual harassments allegations only happens if the owner wants to make it happen. I believe he was driving the bus.

    MLB Thread

I have the MLB radio app. I don't live in Pittsburgh, my favorite team's market, so I don't get blacked out on their broadcasts. Neat! However, there is a rain delay tonight. I tried to listen to the stream of their local radio internet broadcast, which is currently not broadcasting baseball because, you know, rain delay, and I was blacked out! All I wanted to do was listen to a couple of guys talking about the weather radar and some bad takes from callers so I can tell when the game is going to start, but nope. MLB thinks that freely allowing that content might constitute an existential threat to their business model.

Apparently Baker agreed to a contract restructure that will reduce his guaranteed money. He really wanted out of Cleveland.

  21. No Sugar you are not the boss of the truck. if Miss Mahogany tells you something is not ready, it's not ready! She's the cook! It also says something that she is willing to push out food she knows is shit. No way Cheese was roasting chickens and baking cannoli shells in that busted truck. The non-twin from Amawale should throw one of the sisters the keys to the truck. Let them do it. I like the team, but that shit's abusive. I also noticed that only the twins are on the logo on their aprons. Yay team!
