  1. I liked Oberyn, but had a bad feeling about the outcome going in. His entrance reminded me of this ad for Nos energy drink featuring George St. Pierre. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UErIqKJ35Y
  2. I've been an Emily Blunt fan ever since The Devil Wears Prada, but somehow I find her even hotter when she's wearing power armor and wielding a big ass sword.
  3. Agree with the consensus, the movie needed fewer humans, more Godzilla. So was I. The guy had no facial expressions. Whether it was thinking that his father was crazy, seeing a freakin' huge ass monster or finding out that he had volunteered for a one way mission. Godzilla himself didn't disappoint though. That last kill was awesome.

    The Judges

I see that they CGIed Aaron's tattoos out of his ad for queso fresco.
  5. I loved the dress Giada wore in the opening. However, "She's stuck in pageant mode" from a 40 something woman wearing glitter with a rictus smile? I laughed when Sarah said this was her one chance to impress the judges. No dear, this is you second chance, unlike the others. Haven't really developed an opinion on any of the contestants except that Lenny needs to go.

    The NBA

One billion dollars [/Dr. Evil voice] Right now the league has got to be pretty satisfied with where they are at. The Sterlings are apparently on their way out, they got a huge bid (from someone that has already been vetted) for the Clippers and the owners don't have to go on the record with a vote stripping one of their members of his franchise.
  7. Soooo, cancer beats carbon monoxide poisoning. And camel milk? That's a thing? Another unimpressive episode.
  8. Nobody Wants to Host the Winter Olympics It looks like the competition for the 2022 Winter games will be between Almaty, Kazakhstan and Beijing (well, Beijing and a city 100 miles away). The article points out that the combination of climate change and the growing reluctance of Europeans to finance the games will make it harder to find future venues. And in an entirely predictable development, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio Decides Against Bid to Host 2024 Olympics. I think the only person in the entire state pushing for this was Governor Cuomo.
  9. Anybody that posts here knows the deal. The show loves to hear dramatic stories from the contestants and uses those questions as a prompt for the dreaded sob stories that are increasingly intruding on the actual cooking. So, if you were on the show, "Why are you here?", "What will you do with the money?" Xaxat, why are you here?: I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die. Then my parole office got me into culinary school and it straightened me out. What will you do with the money?: Ted, I intend to spend it on hookers and blow, a lot of hookers and blow.
  10. CONPLAN 8888, the US military plan to deal with zombies. Seriously. ETA, I've always thought that the farmers of the Northern Plains states would become kings of the world in a zombie apocalypse. a)They are farmers b)Population density is so low up there that they probably would never see a zombie horde. Just a couple isolated sightings. c)It's so flat up there that you just stick your twelve year old up on top of the silo and he/she can easily pick off any threat, sniper style, way before it becomes a problem.

As a Penguins fan, I actually wasn't that anxious during the game, because I knew they would find a way to lose. Three straight seasons of memorable (for all the wrong reasons) eliminations and counting.
  12. I'm making my transition from TWoP, so here is something I posted over there. Lots of diversity coming to ABC this fall. Cristela, a comedy about Mexican American family. Fresh off the Boat, a comedy about an Asian American family. Blackish, a comedy about an African American family . How to Get Away with Murder, a drama from Shonda Rimes, starring Viola Davis (Looking forward to this, I have had a crush on that woman ever since Solaris.) And American Crime, a drama from John Ridley that looks like it will tackle the issue of race when an undocumented Mexican American is accused of the murder of a white guy.
  13. I have no idea if the show is going to be any good, but the trailers are a reminder of how well Michael Bay does military hardware porn.
  14. Never, ever drizzle truffle oil on a plate.
  15. I watched Mogambo last night on TCM. It's not a good movie, but Grace Kelly and Ava Gardner? Yes please! And I loved how they managed to find an excuse to get them into gorgeous evening gowns even though the movie takes place in the savannas and jungles of Africa.

It's opening day! I know the Dodgers D'Backs played in Australia and there was last night's game, but those really don't matter to me. The season starts today. I think MLB has mismanaged their start of their season. No one cares about Australia. Last night's game was swamped by coverage of the NCAA. They should just go with the day long Monday extravaganza for their open.

    The Judges

I have a crush on Amanda. . . I enjoy it when she squees as someone makes something she loves. As a judge, Marcus is probably my favorite, and I laugh at how Chris is consistently the judge to get a hair/under cooked protein or missing ingredient on his plate.

Did the Sixers win? YES!!! I'm oddly conflicted about this.

Texas and the Yankees actually got pretty good production from the first ten years after A Rod signed with the Rangers. The problem was that he had the early opt out (Remember when he tried to hijack World Series coverage with his negotiations?). So this is kind of like a second ten year contract that is going to hell. I wonder if this trend will affect the balance between the leagues. I think the lack of the DH position to fall back on would make it a lot harder for NL GMs to go ten years. Joey Votto is the only NL player I can think of with that long of a contract, are there any others?
  20. I'm puzzled as to why they purchased the rights to the book instead of just making an original concept. The book starts out with a full scale nuclear war and gets even more depressing from there. It looks like the only thing this show has in common is that there is a ship, and that's it. This feels more like the movie World War Z, without zombies. Whatever. I'm a sucker for post-apocalyptic themes, so I'll be watching.
