  1. Even though I've studied and performed Shakespeare during my high school years, I confess I still need subtitles on to understand what is beind said in a Shakespeare movie. For some reason reading Shakespeare is easier for me than listening to it. Having said that, I adored Baz Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet because while I may not have understood much of the dialogue (saw it in the cinema), the visuals, acting, music helped me understand the plot. Sounds like adapatation may have to wait for home viewing and for when I'm really in the mood for some Shakespeare. Which is a shame cause I have a soft spot for the Macbeth play/
  2. In 1993, the government passed some act or something which renamed Ayer's Rock to Ayer's Rock/Uluru on all signage and documentation etc. Then in 2003 out of respect to the traditional owners it was swapped around to Uluru/Ayer's Rock. From memory it was around the 1993 renaming that the media started referring to the rock as solely Uluru and I don't think I've come across anybody in Australia who says Ayer's Rock or asks what's Uluru? I did some digging and it seems the Eternals/Uluru dilemma actually stems from the Monopoly game where the square is labelled Ayer's Rock and not Uluru.
  3. The place is officially gazetted as Uluru/Ayers Rock as of 2003. Although I would like to think most of us Aussies now just call it Uluru.
  4. Did they really? I missed that. Must have been right at that moment my brain was either cheering the MCU was visiting Australia or realising they didn't physically film in Australaia.
  5. I honestly didn't know what to expect from this movie. Based on a property I have no idea about, a movie with a large cast of main characters and then tepid reviews so I waited until it was out on home release because I convinced myself it wasn't worth the risk of seeing in the cinema. I'm kinda regretting not seeing it in the cinema now. I really enjoyed it. I think the appeal to me is that except for a couple of throw away lines it really didn't link to the MCU, it felt like its very own movie that could be enjoyed on its own. Someone who has never watched a single Marvel movie could easily watch this and know what is happening. While based on a Marvel property it just felt like a new science fiction/fantasy movie. And the movie somehow made me enjoy Angelina Jolie for the first time in years. As an Aussie I may have let out a little yay to see Australia finally appear in the MCU and was so grateful no kangaroos were shown. I thought my favourite moment was going to be the short Robb Stark/Jon Snow reunion but that was eclipsed by Phastos' little tender moment with Ben. I'm definitely keen to see a sequel that's for sure. Probably my favourite Phase 4 content so far (I've haven't seen the new Spiderman yet) I've tried to google the answer but not having much luck but are all the Eternals based on gods from different cultures? Their names anyway?
  6. The shallow part of me is happy the original actor had scheduling issues due to production being delayed due to the pandemic.
  7. I guess you could say I am late to the series, I stumbled across the first season around this time last year and was hooked. Loved the intrigue, even though I got confused with what daemons actually were or what The Book of Life is really about. But there were heaps of characters I got invested in, I would say i finished the season in a fortnight (was binging multiple shows at the time) and then Season 2 came along and WOW! Talk about applying the breaks to the momentum. I found the Elizabethan London timeline incredibly boring and plodding. I just didn't care about Diana's training to become the amazing witch of romance fantasy tropes. I hated how she kept complaining about the way women were treated (did the show forget she her profession is being a historian so this shouldn't be new to her), I hated how she kept doing things that could alter history (again, surely basic time travel knowledge and being an historian would make you realise you can't change things) It took me about 10 months to finish Season 2, and then I only finished it because I was asked by a friend if I had because I had totally forgotten I had stopped without about 5 episodes to fo. But man in was a chore - turned me off wanting to read the books. I got tired of Diana's whinging, I got tired of Matthew yelling when all he had to do was explain before he did something. I got bored of the lack of chemistry between the two leads but being told it was an undeniable love between them. The only parts that held my interest were all the scenes set in modern times and there just weren't enough of them. But the season did end with enough cliffhangers to make me want to at least see the start of Season 3. And I am glad I did. After the first episode this show is back to Season 1 greatness - and maybe even better. I do think this shows strength is minimising screen time of Matthew and Diana by themselves. The supporting characters are much more exciting to watch and they seem to advance the plot better than Diana and Matthew. I kinda wish they just skipped Season 2 and explained what needed to explain like the exposition dumps they did in this episode with Benjamin and Hugh. I am keen to see Episode 2 but will wait until my friend watches it. And mad I hope Peter Know gets his comeuppance as well as Gerbert.
  8. That trailer looks incredible and has convinced me that it is best I wait until I can view it at home. At midday with windows open and the ability to pause AND possibly even spoiled. I am such a wuss but I do love this series = only slasher films I am happy to watch.
  9. I have experienced multiple dust storms in the area I live in and I have never ever felt like I was experiencing a disaster movie like was depicted in this episode. It got to the point where I was thinking are American dust storms different to Australian dust storms. I'm just glad the mid air collision happened to justify some of the chaos show. So I just finished binging the first 2 seasons of this show (and the 4 seasons of the original) and I must say this season really has shifted the show from an ensemble show to The Rob Lowe Show. I caught myself while watching this episode saying 'Effin' Rob Lowe here to save the day' multiple times. Honestly I find his character the least interesting out of the ensemble, the writers need to go and rewatch 9-1-1 to realise that every one can have their episode to shine but no one character is really the lead. I would have been happy to see Mateo save those people from the elevator, let him have his moment to shine with out Owen's assist. Same as in the episode where TK & Carlos were trapped in their firey house, why did Owen have to save them? I was looking forward to them jumping out that window and saving themselves. It really is beginning to feel like Lowe has had it written into his contract that he must be the focus and hero of every episode. A part of me hopes that Owen gets the 126 open again and then becomes Deputy Chief so he goes away and I get to see more of everyone else.
  10. I'm guessing the reappearance of Madeline is to show the audience just how much Emily has grown and learnt about the way the French operate, especially in business? And how much Emily likes her new social/work group? Out of all the tropes this show likes to use I hope they don't use the trope that the original 'hot' guy is the lead's OTP. I much prefer Emily with Alfie than Gabriel. I don't want Gabriel to disappear, I just don't see any spark between him and Emily apart from the puppy eyes he keeps giving her. And I know I should care about Sylvie's dodgy business decisions but honestly, handling of finances and business decisions is one step below organized crime in stuff I want to watch in my entertainment. I'm expecting that Madeline's power move is not going to end well for the Gilbert Group.
  11. I'm more invested in this romantic subplot than anything the show has thrown at me regarding Emily. This was an enjoyable episode from a humour point of view thanks to the increase in office banter. Random question: When French people speak in English do they really say Paris and not Par-ee? I just feel that's one word you wouldn't convert into English pronunciation.
  12. I was so underwhelmed that I didn't even finish the trailer. And I am clearly not the targeted audience with the approach they are taking. I can't quite put my finger on what my issue is but all I know is I have found Batman tedious ever since Chris Nolan got his hands on the property. Bizarrely though I did enjoy Batman in the Zach Snyder movies, but maybe that's cause he wasn't the main focus. Who knows. I will most likely check this out once it comes to home entertainment but I can't see myself rushing to the cinema to check out another drab looking, taking itself seriously Batman.
  13. I confess Emily's letter made ,e laugh out loud but Camille's response had me in stitches. While this is not a deep thinking, ground breaking thought provoking show, it is perfect viewing for the week between Christmas Day and New Year's Day where I have no idea what day of the week it is. My only critique so far is that I don't care two bits about the love triangle. I want more office banter.
  14. I felt the same with the first series but mainly because I had seen the movie so a lot of the first few episodes felt like extended scenes from the movie, but once the show moved beyond the end of the movie's plot I was fully engaged in every episode and keen to discover where this story was going. I haven't read the books so have no idea what is going on as I watch this show now. I think that's why I found Will's scenes in the first season mroe engaging that Lyra's world because I had no idea what was going to happen cause the movie hadn't spoiled any plot points with his story.
  15. After a quick Google now I understand why we focussed on the owl so much in that scene. I knew it had to have been some kind of inside joke. At the time the best I could do was it was some sort of reference to hawk eyes but I knew it was stupid cause it was an owl.
  16. Honestly, I was pleasantly surprised to learn Jack was a 'good guy' and that he was in fact just a comic relief character with no hidden agenda.
  17. It's lines like this and the one about checking in with Scott on what to do with the mini truck that makes me love Marvel movies more than DC movies. They jsut feel organically and naturally humourous. Stuff people would say in real life, whereas DC movies seem to use their humour as jokes with a set up line then punchline which makes it feel more forced than organic. I think that has been a large part of the appeal of this series for me, the humour. I hoenstly didn't care about the mob plot. I was tuning in every week for the banter.
  18. OMG! What a finale! Probably my favourite of all the Dinsey+/Marvel series. Action, humour, emotion and as much closure as one can expect from a sprawling cinematic universe. I really liked how they didn't have Clint Barton hang up his bow just yet. It was great to finally see Clint in something resembling his comic outfit. It took 10 years and 6 episodes but we got there. I may have laughed out loud when Maya killed Kingpin (presuming he is dead - I don't know anything about him I didn't even know he had superstrength etc). Only because people were so excited about his return and then the MCU is see ya later. Still doesn't mean I care about Maya's story going forward. So it seems it only takes one stab wound to kill a budget Jon Snow. I have really grown to love Yelena as a character, that I am now at the point I hope she pops up everywhere in the MCU. Her fight with Kate was hilarious and if the MCU does plan to have a Young Avenger property I hope they use Yelena in some form so we can continue to have Yelena/Kate moments. I had predicted that Clint would save himself from Yelena by mentioning how much Natasha spoke about Yelena and loved her. I was wondering if the show had shot the entire sequence we saw in the mid-credits. It was even more glorious than I had expected. AND I don't care that technically it sets up nothing moving forward. I just now I could watch that scene all daaaaaaaay! As a person who doesn't have an encyclopeadia knowledge of the MCU, should I know who Agent 19 is? I feel like I've heard that name before but can't place it. And I tjought Agent 19 before seeing someone mention it here. So I've clearly come across it somewhere - is it just an easter egg to show that Clint's wife was an SHIELD agent?
  19. Well that's the first bit of footage that makes me want to actively see this movie in cinemas. Still not thrilled the dinosaurs have made it off the island and based on that trailer it seems the movie will end with humans having to learn to live with dinosaurs. Fingers crossed the original 3 survive the movie. And I'm impressed that they have kept the same child for this movie, instead of cycling in a new kid to terrorize.. I know it will never happen but I would love it if we saw all the other kids from the movies in this one - but I know if we did it would jsut be for them all to be eaten.
  20. OK I officially quit Riverdale when it did its time jump, but man I think I'm gonna have to at least check out this episode since Jason speaks. Only to cross off the square 'Jason Blossom speaks' from my Riverdale Drinking Game Card. I had concinved myself the actor was so terrible at acting that there was a rule he wasn't allowed to speak.
  21. I'm one of those people currently not interested in the series for two reasons - the character at the moment is just not interesting (plus I've exhusted from the plot point of 'my family was killed I must seek revenge' and I'm generally not a fan of organised crime stories. So at the moment it's not on my must watch list but I know I will tune in for the first episode and it may surprise me. And as you said you just know they are going to throw some better known characters to hook viewers. Even with this series I admit my mind wanders with all the organised crime moments but I am watching for the Clint/Kate interaction and even Clint's family. And I'm also watching in the hopes for more hints at a Young Avengers project becoming reality.
  22. Not gonna lie, my favourite moment of the episode was the dusting/undusting of Yelena. Followed by the Yelena/Kate conversation. And the final moment reveal just made me groan at having to finish Daredevil on Netflix. Although I have to admit at one point I was kinda hoping it was Daredevil taking out Maya's hoons and not Clint. I think she went back to pick up the rest of her stuff as her mum told her she wanted her back home. I really do appreciate the efforts this show is putting in with Clint grieving the loss of Natasha. She definitely got the Hedwig death treatment in End Game while Tony got the Dobby death treatment. I am still not interested in watching The Further Adventures of Maya and they only have 1 episode left to make me care about her enough, but honestly her story is way at the bottom of stuff I want to have answered by the end of next week. I definitely need the rolex answered, who Hawkeye's big guy is and I need to see Clint in the purple suit.
  23. Should I know the back story to the Rolex watch? I really do enjoy this show when it's just Kate and Clint bantering and getting to know each other. And Kate really is gonna give as Hawkeye in his purple outfit isn't she? I honestly don't care about the whole organised crime thing. And this isn't just a Hawkeye issue, it's just me in general. For me this show is far more engaging without the plot of the crime syndicate - although I understand plot wise why they need it. And I know people are excited about the potential for a certain character to appear but I was super excited when finally the end credit scene from Black Widow finally appeared. Also, they have 2 episodes left to make me care enough about Echo that I will tune into her spin off show. At the moment my care factor about her story is about zero and I have no interest in following her story beyond this series.
  24. OT: This is why I never understood why singing competitions got obsessed with insisting the singers could also write. Sometimes a songwriter needs a singer so their songs can be heard. Not all songwriters are singers. Part of the appeal this show has, for me, is that not every actor could hold a perfect note. Made the heartsongs feel more real in many cases. Even if it was a bit painful on the ears.
  25. I fully recommend this as a Christmas movie. I laughed out loud quite a lot. Even though you know how it will end from the start it was enjoyable getting there. And its a sign of a decent script that I honestly hoped that the person not chosen still got to be happy. Normally these movies set it up so it is an easy choice from an audience point of view. It was also nice that while it was a gay love story there was no coming out plot involved for any of the main gay characters. I also liked how the 'pretend to be my boyfriend for the holidays' plot was basically removed the moment they arrived at the parents house so we didn't have to deal with all that crazy awkwardness associated with fake cheating. I also resonated with the scene where the family celebrated the main guy going on a date. I am convinced that's how my family would respond in that situation. Unpopular opinion, I really don't find Jennifer Coolridge that hilarious. Although I would say this is one of her better performances of late. A lot less ham in the delivery of her lines in this movie.
