  1. As an Australian I am so use to this approach to watching the Olympics. And I was really disappointed to see that Tokyo has swapped the swimming around (for what I can only think is for NBC's money). I was looking forward to watching the swimming finals at night for the first time since Sydney instead of during work time. I remember NBC and the IOC tried to convince Sydney organisers to swap the order and they basically said 'This is Australia's Olympics and we want the host nation residents to get the most of it, including the local tv ratings' I also feel putting the next 2 Olympic host nations just ahead of the host nation was again bending to the mighty America dollar. I recall the story (no idea if it's true) that NBC tried to get Rio to walk the athletes out in English because under the local language America walked out really early and NBC was worried people would stop watching the ceremony. Apparently Rio just laughed at the request. I seriously hope that doesn't become a tradition.
  2. Hands down my favourite part of the ceremony, mistake and all. I would love to re-watch that part again. The rest of the ceremony was very very underwhelming. I described it to my friend this morning that it felt like a teacher had given their class a project to work on and each group had a different part to create. When time was finished, the presentation was done based on when the groups volunteered to do their part. I honestly felt the structure as all over the place. Was there even a plot?
  3. According to his Wikipedia page: "Executive producer Joshua Safran wrote the part for Mock to portray." With a reference to this article. https://www.mrporter.com/en-us/journal/fashion/evan-mock-interview-actor-skater-gossip-girl-2008790
  4. I feel their relaxed attitude to uniform would indicate they really aren't as elite as the show thinks it should be. Here in Australia I know public school more strict that the school on GG in regards to uniform. So if they don't care about the uniform why care about the teacher's background haha
  5. Is there a room for a third person? Honestly the teachers are the only reason why I'm tuning in each week at this stage. I guess since I am a teacher I am finding it absolutely ridiculous that the show honestly thinks this is something teachers would participate in. Sure we might think it would be fun, but no way are we putting our jobs on the line. I like to think of the teachers as being a sitcom within a drama. It is honestly like watching two different shows at the same time. And I realised during this episode that without the teachers being Gossip Girl there would be no show, cause at this stage GG is creating all the drama on the scene. Whereas the original GG just reported gossip on everyone, this GG seems to only care about the rival between the sisters and for some reason the show thinks I care about that when I don't. I am so so so glad the teacher rejected the student (initially) that plot has become such a massive trope, making it male/male does not make it edgy it is still tired. And just exactly how long will the teacher keep the student 'edging'. I have no idea how old the older students are, they are giving off major 'This is my senior year' vibe.
  6. I agree, they do look more like students at university than at high school but that won't stop me watching. For once in my life, I actually read a book before it got adapted into a movie or TV show, so I am quite excited. Normally it's the other way around, I discover a book because it was adpated. I remember while reading it, feeling that it would make a great tv show and not a movie so I'm happy they have chosen the tv medium. While I remember the broad strokes of the book I can't totally remember the play by play so I look forward to it unravelling on the screen. I just remember it had me guessing until the end, I had my theories but I really didn't have the evidence to support it. Hopefully the writers are as smart as the author and don't drop hints live anvils otherwise it will be too easy to work out the ending. Not that the mystery rivals any of the big league murder mysteries that were written.
  7. I'm guessing the surname of He Who Remains is Talking. Man, did a lot of it which really sucked out a lot of final episode hype I had going into it. I get they need to explain things but surely it didn't have to be that tedious. And all it did was really confuse my simple brain with what was going on. I did pick up the mention of him being a conqueror was and so came here to see if he is/was Kang. I don't know the actor from a bar of soap so had no idea he had already been cast as Kang for Ant-Man 3. Although it was cool to see the Multiverse finally appear and even though it impacts the MCU movies way more than the other 2, I feel this was the weakest of the 3 finales for the Disney+ shows. Probably because so much attention was given to He Who Remains instead of focussing on all the characters we have followed for 5 episodes. And while the mid credit scene was nice to confirm the rumours, I was hoping for something more substantial for my mid credit scene - like what we got with WandaVision and TFATWS. I'm definitely returning for the second season, I have really grown to like the character of Loki during this show.
  8. I tuned in for the teen drama but I am sticking around the hilarity of the teachers being Gossip Girl. It's like two different shows - the standard teens with money drama mixed with the whacky hijinx of a comedy about teachers. Maybe I just find the teachers so amusing because I am one itself and I find it ridiculous that they would do it OR maybe I actually understand why they would do it. I haven't decided yet. All I know is those teachers are gonna lose their job by the end of all this. I have no idea about the dynamics of any of the teens beyond there are 2 sisters, 2 cartoon bitches, a good guy and then random characters who hook up. Maybe Elite has spoiled me for rich teen sagas, but this episode felt quite hollow for a teen drama. And truthfully I had no idea what was happening during the fashion show. As long as the teachers hang around, I'll keep tuning in cause really this is just a teen drama trying to be edgy and envelope pushing with no direction, at least the teachers amuse me. Watching this episode and all the mentions of the OG makes me want to finish watching the original series.
  9. From a MCU point of view I hope that's not the last we see of Kid Loki. I've been enjoying the appearance of characters linked to Young Avengers since the first Ant-Man and I was hoping this meant Kid Loki was planned to be in the team up (assuming YA is something on the cards), so it was a bit disheartening to see him walk off into the distance. Maybe next week's episode will reveal he was returned to some new timeline. I must confess I am not a fan of omnious clouds in any form of media. I just don't find them threatening. I just see a thunderstorm that exists as plot point. I knew Renslayer was playing Sylvie, she was too keen to help out and get to the bottom of the mystery to be trusted. Although I didn't expect Miss Minutes to be involved in the sneakery like she was. Maybe Miss Minutes is the big bad. I will assume that people really versed in Loki's comic history would recognise more of the Lokis in the Loki Battle. Me? I had no idea. Just like I imagine all those buildings and vehicles lying around were major Easter Eggs. All I recognised was a structure with the word Thanos on it. I had no idea those little creatures weren't peacocks until they re-appeared again. Looking forward to the final episode and how it ties into Phrase 4's over reaching arc. I did let out a chuckle at seeing Tiny Thor in a cage jumping for his hammer. (I did see that right?)
  10. The Wikipedia page for the show identifies him as Boastful Loki. As a non comic book reader that means nothing to me. The other Lokis are identified as Classic Loki and Kid Loki (Yay!)
  11. Wow what an episode. It really does seem like this MCU TV series like to take it slow and build the story for the first 3 episodes and then by Episode 4 they start throwing all these moments at the screen to really keep you hooked. And I'm loving it. I think I sad Holy Crap 4 times. 1st was the appearance of Lady Sif even if she was just an illusion - great to have her back. Even if I can't recall what has happened to her in the movie. Is she alive or was she killed in Ragnorak? 2nd was Mobius being terminated. Did not see that at all. I mean maybe by episode 6 but not Episode 4. Hopefully he isn't really gone. 3rd was the termination of Loki 4th was the mid credits scene. And Id like to think that's Kid Loki meaning my sowing the seeds for a Young Avengers something. I am so pumped for the final two episodes, although just how much it will influence the movies I;m not too sure since there is a second series of Loki to come. Meaning it has to be open to continuing the story we are watching. But I have faith in Marvel I also discovered with this episode that I really do prefer Loki walking around in a tailored suit and not his Loki outfits of the movies.
  12. I really enjoyed this film. Shame I didn't have the option of seeing it on the big screen, but then it did allow me to see a Pixar movie on opening day and therefore not be spoiled by anything in anyway. I thought this was a much better movie than Soul which I found to be quite 'soulless'. At least Luca managed to give me the standard Pixar emotional moment unlike Soul. Is it one of Pixar's greatest? No. But it is damn enjoyable. It is also probably one of Pixar's more 'kids' movies. The approach reminded me a bit of Ponyo, where the basic plot is aimed for the kid market but there is enough to the rest of the movie to engage adults. Watch the credits for some really nice Miyazaki inspired drawings that act as a epilogue and there is a scene right at the end as well.
  13. Initially when this was announcedwithout any details I was like I can't be bothered checking out another story about Elizabeth. Moaning myself that it's always the same with TV/Movies and the Tudor period if it's not Anne Boleyn it's Elizabeth I but learning they are looking at the time involving Edward VI and Jane Grey I am in. And they are even including Guildford. And it looks like it will also cover Mary's reign. This could just be the series I've been wanting since The Tudors ended. Something that fills the gap nicely between that series and the Cate Blanchett Elizabeth movies.
  14. I have been technically lost in this world since the start. I have honestly felt like the writers of the show decided the only people who would watch it are those who read the book and decied they don't need to explain anything. But finally this episode was an absolute delight and now I want to finish the season. It probably helped that nearly all the separate storylines finally caught up. And The Fold has now been satisfactorily explained to me. Although I am utterly lost with where everything is taking place in relation to each other. Was it meant to be a massive shock The Darkling is evil?? I mean the name gives it away, no good guy would have such a bad guy sounding name or power really. And so glad Alina knows because even though Mal & her are boring, the speed at which she ditched Mal and hooked up with Kirigan was ridiculous, even for a sotry based on a YA novel. I kept rolling my eyes all episode as Alina puppy dogged eye her way to table sex. So glad it was interrupted. It says a lot about the story that I am more invested in the love story of the gay soldiers, Genya and the Fabrikator and the abducted Grisha and her boatman than I am with Mal & Alina. Speaking of love, was this the episode where I was meant to learn Jesper was interested in men? Did I miss an off the cuff comment earlier cause honestly I thought he was jsut a lady's man. Not that I'm complaining about seeing PG steamy gay hookups in a stable. Especially if it means less time watching Alina do stupid things like walking into a ballroom before schedule or turning left because why not? I'm too distracted by Alina's actress sounding like Keira Knightley to notice who other people remind me of. But now that you've mentioned it I will focus on Nina next time she pops up. I loved that moment. Highlight of the show for me. And then Jesper begging the team to ask him where Alina is cause he can't believe their luck. I swear this show is worse that Game of Thrones for killing off characters. I'm refusing to like and fully attach to any secondary characters because the show is determined to knock off anyone who isn't part of the Core 6. Or maybe that's why they are appealing cause my brain is thinking enjoy this character while you can.
  15. This is the only issue I had with Penanace's plan. I totally got on board the concept of the importance of making sure The Touhed weren't targeted but saving a mass murdering Touched from execution is the wrong way to prove your point.
  16. When Effie was talking about the coat I thought to myself, her voice sounds like the actress who plays Maladie but then I quickly dismissed it as having ears not exposed to British accents all day every day and thought nothing more of it. I should have listened to my ears. I honestly thought the guy was dead, was it meant to be shocking a reveal that he lived (and it was explained in the 'missing' episode) or did I miss something from the actual previous episode that indicated he was alive?
  17. I think the dots he connected were based on the conversation he had with Maladie as Effie over the photos of the body in the office and Maladie as Effie's detailed knowledge about the victim's coat and how that could help work out who the victim was.
  18. I had to pop in here half way through watching the episode to confirm that I didn't miss an episode cause the whole thing with the Galanthi was so damn confusing. I know Prudence told True about Auggie being touched last episode but suddenly he has been recruited for this Galanthi drill and everyone knows in the orphange is aware of him being one of them. I'm half expecting HBO to come out and say they screwed up and showed the wrong episode. How I know this is a Whedon show? The one character I wish would die as they have overstayed their welcome for me refuses to die AND I'm meant to be happy they are still alive.
  19. For a show that is really all about the big picture, I really am not that invested in working out what is going to happen. I'm more invested in watching the relationships between the various characters (especially the side characters). And this is probably the first episode where I really felt the dialogue was Whedoneque. Lots of little random quips peppered throughout conversations that made me smile or chuckle. I should have seen Mary's death coming when I felt at peace and happy with the conversation she had with Mundi at the orphanage. It was really touching so of course she had to be riddled with bullets. At least Mundi got to see her sing one last time. Lord Massen's daughter is definitely not dead BUT for some reason I swear Tall Girl was shown to be his daughter at the conclusion of Episode 1 when all those people were getting touched. I swear it was the same actress cause I remember thinking 'Woah, that's why he hates The Touched.' I think I need to check Episode 1 out again, OR maybe Tall Girl is a Parent Trap twin. [Just rewatched the scene and I was totally and utterly wrong, it's definitely a different actor] I need more Augie screen time. This show has shown me that I am a sucker for that character type in a Whedon show. Don't know why but I am. And I have also convinced myself that Lavinia can walk.
  20. I come into this show knowing nothing about it's origin source. And man did I find most of this episode confusing. Which if I'm honest is usually how I feel when watching the pilot episode of a fantasy or sci-fi show. Am I not meant to understand what The Fold actually is? And why do people want to cross it, if it is so dangerous? They talked about it pretty much being a death sentence but then a character comes out as says he has passed through it 3 times. The Wall in Game of Thrones I understood, The Fold not so much. Even though I enjoyed the tenseness of travelling through. And I got the impression that the country on one side of The Fold was more need to cross than the other side, so why do people on the other side also want to cross? And why am I putting so much thought into a dust cloud? I got a bit tired while watching - my fault not the show's - so may have missed it but why does Dressen want to cross it? Just to get Alina? At one stage I was going to complain that the timeline wasn't matching up as Alina's story occurred during the day and Kez's (I think is his name based on Wiki) was happening at night but then it all came together with the reveal of Alexei (who I was sad to see is no longer with us for this story). And is Kez's story from a separate book to Alina's?? Did I read that right on the net? I will definitely give it another episode, it wasn't terrible, it was just confusing with trying to explain the world but just made it more muddlesome. Although I get the feeling I'll be watching this like I did A Discovery of Witches. Constantly checking on the internet was occurred and finding explanations for stuff the show doesn't tell. My only complaint is that I am getting really tired of the trope of the main character discovering they have an unknown gift that they initially were told they didn't have and that they will be the saviour of the world now that the gift has revealed itself. But hey, I guess fantasy has to fantasy I guess.
  21. After sleeping on the finale, I to am hoping the Sharon we saw is a Skrull. I would actually find it quite interesting if it turns out we had two Sharons on the show. We initially had Real Sharon and the later parts are Skrull Sharon. Not sure where Real Sharon is... And as much as the show wanted me to feel sad over Karli dying (so young, misguided blah blah blah), after what they had her do this episode I was happy to finally be rid of her.
  22. Definitely a lot to process but Sharon being bad going forward into Phase 4 has left a very sour taste in my mouth.
  23. I'm really enjoying this show at the moment however I am not a fan of Maladie's 'insane speak'. I hated it with Drusilla on Buffy and I'm hating it here. Only because I'm not a fan of the way the speech is meant to provide as clues for the story. I get that she is insane (as was Drusilla) but I just hate when riddles are used as speech. And it's amazing how after just one scene I was heartbroken when Auggie was forced to 'dump' Penance. I am definitely hoping for them to be reunited. The scenes in the orphanage with all the Touched in the background etc really reminded me of the 'Peculiars' in Miss Peregrines Home For Peculiar Children. I get a strog feeling that Joss was inspired by that world when creating the Touched. And speaking of Touched. I feel this show should be called The Touched since no one is ever referred to as The Nevers. But who knows, maybe down the line The Nevers will be revealed as a term used by others.
  24. My first thought with that moment was Sarah has just become enemy #1 with the Stucky shippers 😄
  25. I was so caught up in that opening fight, that when Sam's Falcon wings were ripped off I let out a gasp and an ouch. Before I remembered that the wings aren't physically part of Sam's body. What is in the box? Initially I thought it was a repaired falcon suit until I remembered that Sam didn't keep the broken one. Then I decided it was some new tech Captain Suit. But now I'm back onto it just being a brand new Falcon suit. I think I would prefer it to be a Capt. America suit and that Torres (is that his name) becomes the new Falcon. I was pleasantly surprised with the cameo. I had heard no whisperings at all about that appearance. It's amazing how Hollywood can keep stuff like that secret when they want to without anybody leaking anything to the public. I am confused with Sharon, has seen gone to the dark side? And this episode reminded me of the struggle Bucky has with being honest with his apartment neighbour. Can't believe there are so many little loose ends that need to be tidied up in one episode
