  1. 3 episodes in of Season 5 and I think it's better than Season 4. Probably cause it appears there is an actual murder this season instead of the boring mystery of last season of who attacked the person in the coma. Still haven't warmed to the daughters of the Principal as characters, I was hoping with another season I would grow to like them like I did with Caye and Rebe last season but nope, kinda wish they were written out. Patrick improved with his Short Stories adventure and his potential love interest is at least appealing, so he can stick around. Same cannot be said about Philipe's new love interest. I have no idea who she is except she has an Instagram account and thinks she is all that. Probably doesn't help that I don't really care about mopey Philipe and his woe is me act. Shame Caye is attached to his plot at the moment. I'm officially over Samuel's sad face and it seems they are giving Omar more of purpose this season with the homeless refugee. I still think the show should have ended up Season 3 when most of the originals had left the show. But I'll keep watching, even if its for the absurdity of the way the show presents the Spanish school system. Surely that's not even remotely how school is in Spain.
  2. I feel I should now the answer already considering I have watched a bajillion British shows and movies set around this time but do the working class hold the same views about a woman's 'innocence' as the noble class? Theo didn't seem to hesitate to move in for a kiss with Eloise which if he was noble would have meant Eloise was 'ruined' and he would have to marry her. Did parents care whether the daughter was a virgin before being married? Were members of the opposite sex supervised and not left alone in a room? I feel the answer is they don't care (to the same degree as nobility), but I'm not willing to bet my life on it.
  3. Not gonna lie, this is how I was introduced to Josie and The Pussycats as a kid and it has framed my knowledge of them ever since. To the point I was disappointed the live action movie wasn't them in space as I thought that was their schtick. So just found out Jason Blossom appears in the episode. I have no idea what is happening with the show anymore but I do still enjoy a Jason cameo. In regards to dropping viewership, I stop watching every week about half way through Season 2 and began to just fast forward to watch scenes of characters I cared about (basically not the Big 4) but even that got exhausting, and the i only tuned into the musical episodes and then fully dipped out once they graduated high school as it seemed the best closure for me. I really do miss the Season 1 days, the show had so much potential but the writers leaned far too heavily into the crazy stuff for it to be truly enjoyable and worth watching.
  4. I watch a lot of TV/Movies these days with captions on and I kinda wish the captions had spelt his name Stephen until the moment he said it is spelt with a V and then it appears correctly, as it would have fitted in with the comedic vibe the show had going at that moment in the story. I understand why they wouldn't do it, but I just think it would have been a funny moment for people who use captions. I know nothing about this character, didn't even know they existed until it was announced as a show. And all I know is that he is basically considered Marvel's Batman with DID. And I'm enjoying the story at the moment, knowing he has DID helped me get through the early 'confusing' part of what was happening when he blacked out but I am intrigued with learning more about him, even if I think this entry into the MCU may tap into the being a bit more horror than the standard MCU properties. It has a lot of potential and curious to see how it will link to other MCU properties - especially whre in the timeline it fits.
  5. After watching Flee over the weekend I really am gutted it went home empty handed. Although the script the ladies were given for the introduction to Best Animated Feature pretty much confirmed that it was never going to win that award since it seems the Academy views animation only worthy of telling stories that children can enjoy.
  6. I will continue to argue the case that the ceremony should just be the awards with the nominated songs breaking them up and an In Memoriam segment. Or even better do it the way the GG did during the Writers Strike. Two people at a podium reading out names. All over with in under 30 minutes.
  7. I'm pretty sure that one of the names that Anthony was crossing off in his book had a surname of Quinn. I could be wrong though.
  8. Ah the show has returned and my fears of it not having the same vibe as the first season dissipated within the first 10 minutes. I really have missed the family scenes packed with banter. The great romance plot can be whatever, as long as I have quality Bridgerton sibling banter I will be happy. Honestly, didn't miss Simon at all, but I'm one of the few people who genuinely didn't care about the character. Sure he provided some eye candy but I just didn't care for him as a person and found him annoying and often yelled at the screen at his decisions and reasoning. The recap at the start will did hit it home for me that I cared more about all the side stories than whatever was happening with Daphne/Simon. And once again that is true after one episode. Lots of interesting minor plots happening that have me more intrigued that the Great Romance. Although I am appreciating all the extra screen time Jonathan Bailey now gets, clothed and non-clothed. I know nothing about the books so this is all new to me, but at the moment I don't find Kate the easiest person to instantly like but I guess that is the point of this genre. This episode made me realised that Benedict may be my favourite Bridgerton. I love his jibes at his siblings. I literally had to pause after his mooing cause I was laughing so hard. Hopefully that his snark doesn't go away when the character becomes central to the story. I'm trying really hard not to binge the show, to spread the enjoyment out but between Benedict's snide comments, the family scenes and the mere presence of Jonathan Bailey, it really is hard not to keep watching
  9. So I just read the news that the 8 pre-filmed categories will still have their glory and full speech. And they are basically just editing out the long walk from the back of the room to the stage. So basically instead of doing the sensible thing of sitting all the nominees at the front and pushing back all the non-nominee actors (basically) that are at the front for the camera we get this ridiculous alternate thing. Maybe I'm in the minority but I tune in for the awards, not to spot Meryl Streep or Tom Hanks in the crowd.
  10. This has always been the part of the ROC decision that I've never fully understood. In order to put a team together or a relay it is meant to be the best in the country and put together by the country/ So if the country is banned any team like entry from Russia should not have been allowed to compete during the ban. But then I guess where do you draw the line cause you could argue pairs should be able to compete and does that mean 4 man bobsled should or the 4 man rowing squad? I guess any entry where the official competitor is labelled Russia should have been barred from competing. It would have just been better to ban Russia completely, maybe it would have resulted in the Russian public insisting the government not let it happen again, as it stands no major consequence happened except for no flag or anthem.
  11. I don't need figures returned to the competition, because as you said it was very boring to watch BUT I would love less emphasis on the power of jumping etc for scores. I finally got around to watching my Aussie girl do your short program and I think it shows the emphasis of the sport that the sport demands skater put in a triple jump into a routine and if you don't then its good bye, like what happened to the Aussie. I know Ice Dance has a whole bunch of requirements, but at least their routines are more about the artistry than the strength, which is what I think the other forms are taking. I actually found most of the men's figure skating boring cause it was just big jump after big jump to notch up points to medal as opposed to a performance.
  12. I understand the concept of rewarding difficult jumps etc but I always feel that if you do a clean skate with no falling over you should get like a bonus of 10 points. I just find it ridiculous that falling over loses you only one point each time, I find it odd you can get onto a podium falling onto the ice above a competitor who nailed everything they did and they place 4th. I actually find I disconnect a bit these days with figure skating cause everyone is obsessed with leaps and jumps instead of skating. I remember the days of skaters falling over and the commentators saying 'Well there goes there chance of a medal' but these days it's like 'Eh they fell over, give them Silver' Or maybe I'm just a bitter Australian who is just annoyed we never do that well in judged sports in general haha.
  13. I dunno, this may seem crazy, but perhaps they could return to voting for movies that the public have flocked to watch like the Academy use to do in the 80s and 90s. Not saying they should ignore the 'arty' films but surely with 10 spots you can find 3 places for a decent box office favourite. I feel that if Titanic or Return of the King were released last year they'd be lucky to get anywhere near the nominations they got let alone the wins. But then again, I guess the public's mood to movies has changed since then cause honestly I cannot see something like Driving Miss Daisy being a box office hit today like it was when it was released.
  14. How could I forget that glorious moment in Australian Olympic history. I mean we even refer to achieving success cause everyone else stuffed up as 'Doing a Bradbury'. I watch that once at least once a year for inspiration haha. I consider Short Track Speed Skating a 'new' sport within the Winter Olympics. Since it only appeared officially at the Olympics in 1992. 'Traditional' Winter Sports to me are those that have been around since the start of the Olympics.
  15. I decided to watch the Rhythm Dance program to help me stay awake to watch the Aussie slide into silver at Skeleton. And I was reminded why I enjoy Ice Dancing so much. I can watch the routine without fear that someone is not going to fall over from jumping into the air and spinning around. It's a lot less stressful to watch
  16. It's also out first ever medal in a sliding event. And our first medal in what I call 'traditional' Winter Olympic sports since the bronze in Nagano. Most of our medals come from the new sports created and added to the Olympic program - like freestyle skiing or snowboarding. I stayed up until 2am local time to watch the historic occasion. It was so nerve wrecking watching her final run. Knowing that anything can happen in this sport, I wasn't taking for granted she would medal. But she did and her response after crossing the finishing line is what the Olympics are about. And I live for my nation getting surprise medals like this one or our Gold in the Modern Pentathlon in Rio. I also like that in a way, the silver in Skeleton is a slap in the face to our broadcaster who decided the only sport worthy of hyping to death for medals at the Winter Olympics is Snowboard.
  17. Just like how our Mixed Doubles Curlers made everybody in Australia experts in Curling, at the moment lots of Aussies are brushing up on the Skeleton, thanks to our female competitor being in first place half way through the runs.. Except for our broadcasters, they are still too focussed (obsessed) with Snowboarding.
  18. I was not looking forward to this movie as I think I'll discussed here before. The concept of dinosaurs running amongst us makes the series to real for me. But damn they got me with the parasaurolophus and then the rest of the trailer. I'm seeing this in the theatre, but I think I need to check before hand that all of the OG survive.
  19. I wasn't able to stay up to watch my Aussies last game - damn time zone difference and work commitments. But it was wonderful news to wake up to them defeating Canada. Mainly because the Canadian male was one of the people who coached them to their victory at the Olympic Qualifying event. It was such a whirlwind day for the Aussie pair. On Saturday afternoon, Tahli tested positive again for covid (essentially detection from her December infection and her body hadn't been able to shake off the dead viral particles). So instead of being forced into an isolation hotel in Beijing they decided to come home to Australia that afternoon (since our rules said she could still hop on a plane). Media releases went out, they put up videos on their Instagram explaining the situation and thanking fans etc. And then 30 minutes before competition the AOC releases a statement that after pleading their case to the IOC (basically she doesn't have active covid particles), they are allowed to play their final 2 rounds. AND they won both! I know the Aussie media will be focussing on our medal winners as the highlight of the Olympics, but man its gonna be tough to beat our Mixed Double Curlers as the story of the games for me. Honestly if I had talent and money I would make a movie about their Olympic experience and the build up to it (like Cool Runnings or Eddie The Eagle), the expulsion was the the movie climax I was looking for. I'm sure it would be a hit in Norway and Canada haha.
  20. Thank you for finding an answer. So basically because the man is more likely to have the greater strength in the pair, he needs to be available for the 4th throw in case you need to wipeout some stones. Makes sense and I feel a bit stupid for not really noticing that occurring in the games I watched. Looking back on the games, it did happen.
  21. With Australia having their first ever competitors (apart from that one time when it was a demonstration sport) in this sport and the fact the MIxed Doubles started before official competition, Australian TV has shown a lot of curling so far. And while our team hasn't exactly lit the ice on fire, it seems their presence at the Games has at least increased the profile of the sport in Australia. As someone who basically just knows it as lawn bowls on ice but using really big 'balls' of granite is there a reason why the female of the team plays the 1st and 5th stone. I've looked up game play (basically on Wikipedia) and it doesn't say its a rule that the genders have to play their stones in a certain order. Just that Player One does 1st and 5th and Player Two does 2nd -4th. So I guess the question is what is the game play behind the female being Player One and the male being Player Two? I have yet to watch a game where this isn't the case.
  22. Glad I'm not the only one who wasn't totally blown away by the songs. I think 'Bruno' is the best of the cast songs and 'Dos Oruguitas' is suitably emotional and a highlight of the movie, theses are the two songs I've been listening to over and over. But overall well as I said to a friend the songs sound like well polished Dora The Explorer songs. I know that LMM gets a lot of praise for his talents but I am yet to be blown away by anything he has written. I have gotten tired of the rap singing he infuses into all his songs - I get it LM you can write rap. I also feel the production of the songs lent heavily into hoping the songs would hit the radio - Surface Pressure is a good example where there are invisible backing singers. (The presentation of some of the songs in the movie adaptation of Hairspray also suffered from this. The other thing that was off putting was the presentation of the numbers where the characters sang directly into the camera or knew they were singing a song. Compare the framing of The Family Madrigal with the framing of Belle from Beauty and the Beast. Both songs serve a similar purpose of introducing characters but at no point during Belle do the characters act like or are given lyrics that indicate they know they are in a musical. It just takes me out of the musical concept if the characters know they are singing when that's not part of the plot (like say Enchanted or Buffy's Once More With Feeling). I also feel LMM needs to work on leading into and out of a song, the best musicals are where the songs begin without you even knowing a song is about to start and then it seamlessly works back into the spoken word at the end. But I guess when the directors decide to frame most of the songs as music video clips, it was a bit hard for LMM to ease in and out of the songs with the script. Unfortunately, most of the songs in Encanto could be removed and nothing would be lost plot wise. Also another big no from me. I also felt it wasn't necessary to have 3 I Want songs either - really took focus away from Mirabel. It sounds like I hate the movie, but I didn't. I really enjoyed it and have recommended it to everyone who asks what they should watch next. And I am grateful that for the time being 'We Don't Talk About Bruno' has made people forget about their obsession with 'Let It Go;
  23. As a non-American who watches a lot of US television shows, this is something I have began to notice a lot - even in reruns of old shows that I didn't notice as a child. The upside is it's just played off as a 'normal' aspect for the character (typically) but compared to the shows produced in my country (Australia) is seems odd that so many characters are religious. I say that because we very rarely have our characters visit churches to talk (churches seem to exist for weddings and funerals) and if someone is religious most of the characters decide to be a bit weary of them because basically the character is the most wholesome and pure person in the world because of religion. I only mention this as a difference in ways characters are written in different countries - in America being religious is just one feature of the the character but in Australia it's often used as the defining trait of the character. But it does make it feel like the US is way more religious than Australia.
  24. 3 episodes in to Season 3 and I am back on board with this story. This season is so much better than the slow dragging Season 2 which with every passing week I'm convinced they could have covered in 2-3 episodes. I must confess though that I have totally forgotten why the 3 missing pages are so important and why they were removed. In fact I can't even remember why the book is so important. (yes I know that's the McGuffin driving the plot haha). I agree, I had to look up how long ago Reign was on, cause if I didn't know better I would have said it ended yesterday. On a random aside, seeing him in Episode 3 helped me to work out why an actor on a Brazilian Netflix show I've just started watching looked familiar to me. He looks very similar to Toby but with a beard. And while Toby may not have changed, can't say the same for the actor playing Benjamin. Just learnt that he is the same actor on this British cops show Cuffs that I binged the last fortnight. I don't know if it's the beard, but his face looks really different and wouldn't have known it was him if I hadn't recognised the name in the opening credits.
  25. Guess this is why the Twidiots deem her the worse parent ever because in their eyes once you make a mistake you should be cancelled and not allow to apologise, learn and grow as a person. She just shows them how silly they are when they discover a tweet from 2010 when the person was 12 and insist they are the worse person in the world and should never earn another dime in their life.
