  1. Quick question: Skateboarding Park will it be more like the BMX Freestyle than Snowboard Halfpipe? I thought it was halfpipe but after watching the BMX Freestyle I began to think maybe that's what Skateboard Park would look like.
  2. Does anybody know what happened when the Australian Andrew Hoy was on the cross country course? I was watching but had to switch over to watch the female Aussie compete in the BMX Freestyle final, so was following Cross Country on the Olympic website and started to notice Hoy was get penalties that didn't stop. When I switched back to the Cross Country the commentators just said his penalties would be reset and the stop watch re-started. And there was a sign saying course on hold. But they didn't tell me exactly what happened, and google isn't helping. The best I can think of is that a dog was running around on the course. Haha
  3. Sounds a lot like what the Australian government did after the 'failure' of the national teams at Montreal '76 and created the Australian Institute of Sport. It's also interesting that the Australian Olympic Committee etc have also apparently decided for these Olympics not to predict a medal count for Australia as it added unnecessary pressure to the team. And I must say it seems to be working after the 'disappointment' of London '12 and Rio '16
  4. OK I admit BMX Freestyle was better than I expected. For some reason I thought it would be a halfpipe type of thing. But zooming around a park doing jumps and whatnots is kinda fun to watch. Probably also helped that the Aussie in the Men's comp is seeded first for the final, so I had that extra level of investment.
  5. No it's just the individual event for men and women. Apparently during warm up the athlete can choose which trampoline they want to use. Guess it's one of the things that makes ense if you are in the sport but as an external observer you wonder why there are two when one will do. The fact the contest has two means it wouldn't be that hard to add synchro.
  6. Congrats to NZ who just won their first Olympic gymnastic medal in the Men's Trampoline. If an Aussie can't medal, I'm happy for it to be a Kiwi. And I want more Trampoline events. It is so thrilling and unpredictable.
  7. Currently watching the Men's Trampoline qualifications Routine 1 and I've caught myself counting to myself 1 2 3 4 to keep track of how close we are to the end of a routine. Apparently 10 tricks in Round 1 is the only rule I know apart from 'try to land on the cross and not the edge'.
  8. I really felt for the female British athlete in the 400m hurdles. Her story was that she was a school teacher and all her students would be watching. And apparently she had potential to do well. So what happens? Looks like trips on her own feet before the first hurdle and crashes into the hurdle and out of the race. Hopefully she has nice students.
  9. I believe London 2012 was the start but happy to be proven wrong. I think they've jus discovered swimming cause I still find it fascinating they are strong in the triathlon. (Not sure why it fascinates me but it does)
  10. I don't fully comprehend what I just watched with the Mixed Relay but I fully approve of this event staying on the Olympic Swimming program. After watching the Mixed Relay Triathlon this morning where the rules says the order must be FMFM it was incredible to see the swim order be up to the discretion of each country. And watching countries leading by a mile be gobbled up in a later leg. Just an incredible race. I feel that might just be my favourite Australian bronze of these Olympics at the moment. Although the cycling bronze is still high since it's the only medal that we've got that doesn't involve water. haha
  11. This news excites me, cause Tahiti is closer to Australia so I could organise a holiday to go to the Olympics and if for some reason I can't see the surfing it doesn't matter cause I'm in Tahiti. But still at the Olympics. Haha
  12. My friend told me to switch over to watch the race is it was turning out to be thrilling, I was busy watching Handball. I was stoked the Aussie was still in the lead pack and then I saw him slowly deteriorate. Watching him coming down the home straight was devastating and then he face planted in the background as others were finishing. So of course the coverage cuts away to the winner celebrating causing me to yell at the TV 'Get back to the race, I need to know my guy is OK and alive'. So glad that he finished and even after being taken off in a wheelchair he is apparently ok. And amazingly he performed his season best. One of the more emotional moments of the games so far for me.
  13. What can you expect when we are girt by sea. 🤪 And Australia has already equalled it's Gold tally from the Rio game.
  14. Glad I'm not the only one who was annoyed by that. I'm so old it also annoys me that the competitors are allowed to use airpods (for music??) while performing. It annoys me with snowboarding events as well. I know it's part of the culture etc of the sport, but if a marathon runner can get through their event without music surely an athlete can survive 45 seconds or less without music. Most of the outfits also annoyed me, it looked they were just out for a walk with their board and decided to pop in and have a go at the Olympics. I don't think it's the patriot in me, but something like the Aussie outfit made it feel like I was watching a professional sport as opposed to kids in the local park having fun.
  15. I thought this was Beach Volleyball (which suffers a similar problem) but it's Beach Handball which isn't an Olympic sport. Still ridiculous, especially since the men asked in 2002 to wear 'form fitting' uniforms, citing the reasons the Federation gave for why women should wear bikinis, and were denied.
  16. Sorry what I meant by my question is outside the Olympics does the sport have any racing events? For someone who doesn't really understand scoring of judged sports (even gymnastics) except for oops they fell or went splat, just curious if there is anything in skateboarding that allows for first past the post results.
  17. Just out of curiosity does the sport of skateboard have any racing events? I know Snowboard Cross and the Slalom event helped me get on board snowboard train. That's all I've learnt from watching. Don't fall off when doing the trick component. The rest I see moves and I think that's it?? And then laugh cause I'm lucky to keep balance just standing on a skateboard.
  18. Hello! The Olympics always drags me back to frequent postings haha.
  19. I may hate the way my local broadcaster gushes all over the swimming team every Olympics, creates reality tv type back stories for them and often at the detriment of other sports an Aussie athletes competing but I admit I still get nervous and excitement in a swimming final with an Aussie. 3 medals in the pool one of each colour, what an achievement. We can call the Olympics off now for Australia as that's all I ever hope for at a Summer Games. A medal of each colour haha. And what an achievement from our women's 4x100m Relay team. Once it looked like we weren't gonna lose I started screaming at the screen to beat the WR line. And they did. What a swim from the 3rd leg. Apparently it was in the 51 seconds mark. And any other Aussies quietly whisper to themselves 'Don't jump in the pool, don't jump in the pool.'?
  20. I'm one of those people who were like 'Skateboarding at the Olympics? Really?' But sitting here watching the Street event, I'm hooked. I have no idea what's happening but I'm enjoying. I at least know in the trick component you can't fall off. Which made me exclaim loudly 'NO!' whenever the Aussie contestant didn't stick his landing. I like the way it's the Top 4 scores across 7 goes towards your overall mark. Means you can still score highly if for some reason you stuff up both runs. I think following the score online has helped add an extra level of excitement with each attempt. I feel the Street event will be the Skateboarding discipline I will enjoy the most as I'm not a fan of halfpipe events at the Winter Olympics and that's what Park seems to be to me. But I'm happy to be shown I'm wrong when I tune in.
  21. I stayed up until 11pm (Australian time and that's late for me) to see if our lone male representative qualified for the Horizontal Bar (after watching him crack the Top 8 during Rotation 2) and he did. Which makes him, I believe, the first male Aussie to qualify for an apparatus final in a very long time. I gave up going back once I hit 1980. Pretty sure out broadcaster won't notice that since the swimming has started. His only chance of being truly noted is if he gets medal.
  22. Not joking, when the song finished one of the Aussie commentators said 'Wow! I was not expecting that. I was not expecting to be watching the opening ceremony in Tokyo and see The Voice's Keith Urban perform. Incredible'
  23. I'm gonna start lobbying for this sport to be added to the Brisbane Games.
  24. From Wikipedia "For the first time ever in the opening ceremony, the teams from the countries that will host the next two Olympic Games in 2024 and 2028, France and the United States respectively, marched before the team of the host nation Japan, instead of entering one-hundred-fifty-fourth (between Brazil and Bulgaria) and seventh (between Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates) respectively, as they ordinarily would according to the Gojūon, the Japanese script order."
