I came across this summation of Rosie O's roller coaster of a career and thought I'd share.

The Real Reason Rosie O'Donnell's Career is Over (supposedly)

I am curious about two things claimed in the story that were news to me ... first: the person on the panel Rosie O was having problems with when she returned to The View was not Whoopi, it was Rosie Perez.

And second: that after the infamous battle of the split screen with Elizabeth Hasselbeck, Rosie didn't quit or refuse to renew her contact or whatever ... in reality, Barbara Walters fired her and that is why she never appeared on the air again. They link a NY Post story that supposedly describes Rosie making the claim she was fired in a stand up routine she did afterwards, but I can't get the link to work so I don't know what it really says.

I don't remember ever hearing that Rosie O and Rosie P didn't get along, nor do I recall there being any apparent tension between them.  Then again I almost never actually sit down and stare at the show while it's on so I could have missed a lot.  And about Rosie being fired .... that is not at all the story I remember being told about why she left.   Supposedly her contract was up in three weeks and she just said the hell with it and it was all her choice to go.

I realize BaWa can be all high-minded about her precious show, but I don't know why she would have fired Rosie if the goal of the show is to "make sparks." The show had made headlines all over with the drama between Rosie and Elizabeth.  You'd think she'd be happy.  Maybe not. Or maybe BaWa was afraid Rosie would pull a Star Jones on the air somehow and embarrass her so she got rid of her before she had the chance, lol.  I could see that being a concern!

The assertion that O'Donnell and Perez had problems with each other sounds to me like a complete fabrication (and re-writing history to keep any stain off of Whoopi, who was the real problem). When the news came out that they were trying to fire Perez, Rosie O'Donnell reacted pretty loudly in the media, saying Perez was going nowhere, she's a great co-host, and that the story was complete BS. Rosie Perez also defended Rosie O'Donnell when she appeared on Wendy Williams a week or so after O'Donnell left the show. Perez said she and O'Donnell are friends regardless of what anyone might say about O'Donnell because of the Whoopi drama. To me, this is why Whoopi was rude to Perez, because she didn't kiss Whoopi's ass like Nicolle did; she didn't really take any sides in the deal. The only drama that ever came out about Perez the entire season was related to her hairdresser(s).

As for the other part, who knows. I think Barbara wanted her to go and Rosie wanted to go, so it was a decision that was mutually beneficial.

Consider the source: this is a story by someone that doesn't even give their name - just @Looper?    How I remember it:  In the 2006-2007 season RO would only sign a one year contract with Fridays off (that's where that started) and announced weeks before she left that she would not be renewing.  The day after the Big Bill and Bitsy ambush / split screen etc. she told her blog viewers she would not be returning to finish the 2-3 weeks left.

Anyone that saw last season saw the tension at the table with Whoopi and RO.   Just going by my own viewing and following RO's blog at the time, I think her intention was to leave early after Whoopi shouted that RO can't talk about racism to her etc. etc.  in December in an effort to decrease the stress in her life .  RO did not need The Spew, but Whoopi clearly does.   Anyway, then Whoopi "hurt her back" and RO took the reins for those few weeks then left.

Whoopi was on Fallon this past week and did an impression of Rosie Perez - can't remember why.  She talked about all the shoes she has at The View to be fashionable since she didn't dress as well as the others.  She brought Jimmy some liquor candies and talked about her pot products for women issues.  Likable Whoopi, not View Whoopi.

Nice gesture, but my cynical mind can't help thinking Whoopi gets some sort of fee or kickback with these product promotions as gifts, even if it's just a "free supply".    Her comments about wearing cool/nice shoes instead of nice clothes doesn't mean much when she's often on camera in bedroom slippers or Crocs.

Could be. My take was that by that time she probably would have left at the end of the season if Whoopi didn't, but wanted to finish it out of principle. Then Whoopi devolved into personal insults on-air for the first time, and the next day or so she announced she was leaving.

I was skeptical about Sherri and "Pyramid" and I'm only halfway through her episode but she was actually great in the part I've seen. Her contestant won the big money round with her. (His clues were great, and Sherri was good in receiving them - didn't get flustered, just talked her way through.) And she laid off the shtick and really seemed like she wanted to help the contestant win.

Rosie was good on Match Game too. A lot of her fellow celebrities were a bit "on" but Rosie struck a good compromise between fun and excited, and seriously wanting to help the contestants win.

I came here to post the same thing about Sherri. She played well, and that required a lot of smarts, of a specialized sort. Seeing Anthony Anderson play the not-really-very-good-player role that I expected of Sherri was surprising, and lowered my opinion of him. Gotta give credit where credit is due. Nice job, Sherri Shepherd!

I didn't watch, so I'll take your word for it.  The girl has a lot of financial responsibilities so I don't wish her ill .... as long as she's not on my TV.

Well, she did start out with a story about Jeffrey (now 11) having a crush on a girl and allegedly calling her his soulmate, and Sherri did her usual schtick about, "No, your soulmate is your mama," and I was rolling my eyes and thinking, Here we go again. But when it came down to game playing, she really made it about her teammate winning money, was calm, professional, and played well, which isn't easy. It made me think she may be putting on more of the shtick than I realize and there may actually be some substance under there.

I wanted to watch the game show lineup this past Sunday night but U-verse had other plans for me. Ten minutes before the game shows and Big Brother were supposed to come on at 7:00pm all my U-verse services went out (TV, phone and internet) so I couldn't even DVR anything. I fell asleep while waiting to see if things were going to come back up, which they didn't end up doing the first time until about 1:30am. Everything promptly went out again right after 2:30am so I went back to sleep and everything was seemingly back to normal later that morning. I'll get around to watching the shows I missed sometime in the next few days.

Rosie and Sherri did really well during their game show appearances. Sherri surprised me and I'm glad she did well because of how bad Anthony Anderson was. It was like Anthony didn't care that the contestants more likely then not needed the money they were playing for. He seemed to treat his whole appearance as a joke until the last round of the game. I didn't care for the way he shook the back of the one lady's chair while she and Sherri were still actively playing the game.

I really enjoyed the second half with Rosie and Kathi since they both were there to play the game and how well their partners did. Rosie was also one of the bright spots on Match Game. Most of the answers on that show were surprisingly crude and that's coming from someone who isn't a prude. (I didn't mean to rhyme there with that sentence)

True that the old show was risque but it was very wink-wink....not like, say, "Warts on Your Anus" like this incarnation.

Ew. Did not know.

Now I'm kinda' glad I forgot to watch. I love those old game shows.

When did "coarse" replace risqué? Maybe the better question would be "why" did coarse replace risqué? (rhetorical ... )

I was just going to post that. As I was reading the article I had flashbacks to her oozing how wonderful he was and what a great boss he was when she announced her "departure."

I have no idea if Bitsy ever had sumthin' going on with Ailes. And I'm ready to give her the benefit of the doubt that she never did. But I will say that from what we saw on The View, she knew how to work these old pervs. I recall one day she came out with a massive 1960s-style updo and said that Geddie liked her hair that way and because it was his birthday she wanted to treat him. I remember thinking that was some messed up shit.

Unless they throw Gretchen some major $ to settle, I'm popping up some corn for this. Gretchen is an accomplished lady (Stanford, Harvard Law) and I always wondered how she could stand being on Fox and Friends with those other doofuses. (But I guess if you're paid enough, you can bite your tongue.)

Nah, Bitsy won't respond. I think Tim is still hoping for a career in media and Ailes is a *very* powerful person. She should also lay low if she wants to keep out of it because she might be called as a witness in the litigation. She still might be a witness but no need for her to muddy the waters.

As much as she annoyed me I hope she wasn't harassed as well because that's a terrible thing to endure. Plus, Doocy is the stupidest man on television and has no right to condescend to anyone....even Bitsy! (I'm betting tho that Doocy liked her just fine....docile, subservient, not some uppity broad with a law degree like Gretchen.)

I was just going to post about Bitsy's mysterious stomach problems and Gretchen's lawsuit.

Between Douchey and Ailes I'm not surprised she ran out of there with her hair on fire.

Imagine that, I just said something empathetic about Bitsy.

Wow! "Get along with the boys" heh. Doocy looks like a jerk too. Will Elizabeth respond. I doubt it.

Makes you wonder if she got a settlement and a gag order, no?

I think Bitsy did learn early on that she could work her charms effectively, while earning major bank. She is not as stupid as the puppet she portrayed for years. It's entirely probable that she & the boys played their flirty games, but I can't really see her sleeping around to advance herself. And just because you're in that environment that doesn't mean you deserve to be abused. Ever. I hope she wasn't, but with all the ridiculous gushing over the sleazy Ailes at her departure, that reeks of a huge payoff.

Doocy is that moron's real name?   Hahaha!  All this time I thought it was some sort of misspelling/internet slang of Douchey since that's pretty much what I called him.   I watch a LOT of TV and I don't think it's hyperbole (or hyper-bowl as Whoopi would say) to name him the stupidest man on television.  Hands down.  Jon Stewart often used clips of that idiot being an idiot.

I doubt EH would put up with Ailes.....but she sure did appreciate being mentored by Geddie and Hannity.  Well - until she brought up clothes-gate about Sarah Palin while on a rally with her when the GOP wanted that squashed.

OTOH - if she got a payout from FOX I doubt she would be downgrading and moving to Tenn. Perhaps I will be surprised.

Here's a flashback to Bitsy's "chief breakfast officer" announcement, in which she effusively praises Ailes:

http://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-news/news/elisabeth-hasselbeck-emotional-announces-fox-friends-departure-w158366

She also says that she needs to be more like Kilmeade's and Doocy's wives and stay home. Doocy's probably creamed himself.

  • Love 6

Yeah the photo montage is a bit old - it includes Rita Cosby and John Gibson, who haven't been there for years. But the point still stands. Lotsa blondes, then and now.

Going back to Bitsy's tearful announcement when she left...she refers to "Mr. Ailes" as the "most powerful" man in the biz. What a strange thing to put in a goodbye message. His power must have been forefront in her mind for some reason.

It makes me think that Bitsy was confronted with the same thing as Gretchen and she decided to bolt. Her chief breakfast officer comment makes a lot more sense in that context. She was saying to the powerful "man" that she was just going to be the little homemaker.
