preeya January 11, 2019 Share January 11, 2019 The competition heats up with only seven chefs left in the competition. During the challenge, guest judge and renowned pastry chef and chocolatier Valerie Gordon cracks down hard on both teams' take on dessert. The dinner service starts without a hitch, but one team's lack of communication causes pure chaos in the kitchen, resulting in a dramatic elimination. Link to comment

tinkerbell January 12, 2019 Share January 12, 2019 There were steaks and lamb that Gordon said were "OVERCOOKED!!" and they looked great to me. looked to be between medium and med-rare. But what do I know. I hate Bret - he's vile. 6 Link to comment
Mystery January 12, 2019 Share January 12, 2019 I felt bad for Trev, but what was he trying to do with his talk with Christina before service? Do an end run around the show and get hired at "her" restaurant in any position? I guess I can understand the desire but coming before the service as it did, it came across as not caring (about or not having confidence in) that night's performance. Heather had no business yapping about how a real chef can tell when protein is done. 9 Link to comment
mertensia January 12, 2019 Share January 12, 2019 I detest Trev and still think he's a misogynistic jerk, but thank you for being just as irritated by Bret' s "I'm Italian! Heritage!!" schtick as we are. I wonder if Bret said that as he was being arrested. Heather's sourpuss face is really unattractive. Poor Matto. He so desperately wanted both gone. 7 Link to comment
xcrayon2215x January 12, 2019 Share January 12, 2019 Trev deserved to go, Bret really should be next. Ariel is looking like she is going to be a winner, though Motto could be the winner since a man has not won since Scott. 6 Link to comment

AZChristian January 12, 2019 Share January 12, 2019 I was only half-watching. Did they taste Heather's dessert after the competition and determine it to be the best of everything, even though the other women voted to exclude it? That's a typical HK ploy. 4 Link to comment

Red Bridey January 13, 2019 Share January 13, 2019 Isn't this the second time Kenae's (?) choice for a dish has been bad? I guess we'll never know if Heather's bread pudding was good or not, but on an earlier episode Kenae won the war to choose a dish that DID not beat the one that she determined wasn't good enough. She's only lucky the men's desserts were so totally terrible. And even though I dislike Heather and her magic "protein cooking ability, " I would never let KENAE win an argument again. Bret's face is SO UGLY I can't even stand it. Thank god for fast forward because that is how I save my eyes. Trevor is just useless. Seriously, I just can't with him. His palate is terrible because he chainsmokes on camera all the time. Good riddance! Motto? Meh. I would love to order beef Wellington at a restaurant because it is a dish I will never try to make myself, but seeing the endless failures of these cooks to get it right...I can see why it's nowhere to be found on any of my local restaurants. The lamb looked fine to me. I like lamb a lot, but I do want it to be fairly cooked, not rare. My steak can be bloody, but not lamb. 5 Link to comment

I have had it and it's great. The thing is, once it's prepared - the steak, other ingredients are encased in pastry, the only thing they can get wrong on Hells Kitchen is the amount of time to cook it. The wellingtons are prepared ahead of time. And that is all they have to do - get the time right. If it's supposed to be done in 30 minutes, and they take it out of the oven in 30 minutes, there is no way to tell if it's cooked to the proper temp without cutting it. Gordon cuts it and declares it either RAW! or OVERDONE! but there's no way for the person taking it out of the oven to determine that. I assume at most restaurants that serve wellington, it's the same - a certain number of minutes in the oven and a pre-determined temperature. Maybe on HK, someone messes with the oven temp to make sure they get messed up. 5 Link to comment

I was wondering if maybe there's always a test cut but I never noticed it before. I don't pay too much attention to the wellingtons, because I don't like mushrooms. 1 Link to comment

justawatcher January 14, 2019 Share January 14, 2019 I'd like to change my winner prediction. Spoiler I think it's going to be Heather. Here's why: 1) Jocky going on lunch with the women seemed like a second interview after the one that Christina seemed to do in Vegas. 2) we didn't see Heather's dish go up there so it must have been hell and that's why they pulled it 3) the cute thing with her son and mommy and me cookware 4) he can't do a veteran vs rookies and have three runner ups and not have one of them win. Obviously it's not going to be Bret and Motto has spent no camera time with either Jocky or Christina, so it's lining up to be a woman. Kenae and Mia are too close in age, looks, and perkiness to Michelle to do another one. Going with Heather. Brett, however, will get a black jacket. Kenae does not get one- that's my guess. 1 Link to comment

He can mold and solidify their cooking skills, but that can be done for anyone. A true leader is what he's honing in on. 2 Link to comment
BusyOctober January 15, 2019 Share January 15, 2019 It's been a toss up in the past whether "winners" have been able to collect their prize/position in a GR establishment. Some past winners have done it, but every season I see a bunch of line cooks who have no business being on a made for TV reality show, let alone in a sanitary, operational, public restaurant kitchen. If I saw Brett "Magilla Gorilla" in the back of the house (or God forbid, FOH!!!), I would get up and leave. Same for Brett. They just look clueless and dirty and sweaty. Not to mention most of their taste buds have been annihilated by smoking. The thought of someone's hands smelling of tobacco, and has nicotine stained fingers and teeth preparing my food just makes me want to hurl. Now, realistically, I know I have eaten in fine dining restaurants and local diners who have smokers and sweaty goons in the kitchen. However, what I haven't seen with my own eyes, can't hurt me! 4 Link to comment

However, what I haven't seen with my own eyes, can't hurt me! well yeah, rarely seeing gloves on chefs touching food - i put this up to just this being a show, not reality. i'm sure they are coached to be over the top in their talking heads segments, which helps zero in seeing them as professional - it plays up the petty reality show emotionalism and soundbites. The smoking thing is interesting - those who work in the restaurant industry, is smoking a majority for chefs, or not so much? The worse thing for me would be someone with a nasty cold/flu bug fixing my food, either prep or on the line - you have to breathe, and I know your exhales are floating over my ingredients/plates at one time or other. I have never seen any cooks wearing facemasks. I guess in the food industry we are cool not to have the same levels of sanitary as operating rooms. Link to comment

Mystery January 16, 2019 Share January 16, 2019 I think that Christina's season was the first one I watched, and I just loved her (love her still, as a kind of "coach") and it's interesting to see her on the guys' team this year. To me, she has what preeya was talking about as leadership and maturity, though I also thought she was a good cook. I'm still not sure what Trev was doing when he talked to her before the dinner service, but whatever. She's great. 2 Link to comment

spiderpig January 22, 2019 Share January 22, 2019 Trev bugged the hell out of me and I can't wait for Bret (who loves to pump his guns during his talking heads) to follow him out the door.
