Bill Wolff Out as Executive Producer

Bill Wolff is departing his post as exec producer of ABC’s “The View,” the latest shakeup on the daytime series that has had nothing but turmoil in front of and behind the camera during the past two years.

ABC has yet to line up a permanent replacement for Wolff, who will remain at the helm through the end of September to see the show through the launch of its 19th season with a revamped panel of hosts. Candi Carter, an “Oprah Winfrey Show” alum who recently joined as a consulting producer, will serve as interim showrunner until a successor is named.

Interesting about Wolff but not surprising. I never thought he was right for the job and then they changed the show from the news dept to entertainment dept. And look at the guest co-hosts, co-hosts and newbies. Can't believe they were Wolff choices. Especially with the new line-up (except Joy).

Seems to me he never was given any power to begin with - poor guy.

I thought the same thing...... I didnt see any positive change that should have come with his input.... seems he was more of a figurehead than anything else

On another note..... I thought they switched from entertainment department to the news department..... I guess you really cant tell by just watching the show..... but it does seem less newsy..... go figure

Thanks for posting the link, Vinyhasa.  "Whoopi & Her Sidekicks"  was from this forum wasn't it, or maybe it was "Whoopi & the Whoopsters" someone came up with here. LOL.

And like someone else suggested, this should be Whoopi's last year, making way for Joy as moderator, if they can keep the show alive for one more year.

Guess even with all the layoffs/firings at The View, the tipster(s) is still there.

I wonder if the "tipster" is a staff writer on the DM who reads this forum?   Because either someone there is actually  watching this show  (doubtful) or keeping up with the forums.  Whoopi and her sidekicks are exactly the phrase I (we)  used on this forum in describing The Whoopi Goldberg Hour.  Or maybe they really are watching and came to the same conclusion?

I've been advocating for ABC to change the name of the show to better reflect the person who seems to be running it and then this tabloid story, which may or may not be true, basically says what many of us here have been saying: that Whoopi was behind many of the staff decisions.  Which if true, is terrible.   I'm glad Wolf jumped of this train wreck at least.

Joy is used to the show being a democracy, but felt when she guest-hosted it had become ‘Whoopi & Her Sidekicks,’ an insider told Daily Mail Online.

I don't know about watching this new season; unfortunately for me (because I enjoy this forum so much) my Whoopi -hate seems to have reached the tipping point this season and contaminated the whole thing.   I couldn't even get through a seven year old clip of her at the table (Whoopi,Joy, Bits, and Sherri) because she couldn't read the monitor.   It's been reported that she 'can't wait to leave this shitshow"  many times and her attitude backs that idea up in my opinion.  She has absolutely no interest in improving the show - she's just counting her money.

Just saw the new TV ad for next season.

Whoppi, Candace, Michelle, Paula, Raven and Joy. Why six of them?

Along with Sherri and another bunch rotating  in and out?

I just don't get it!!

Vinyasa I'd bet anything Whoopi will not be showing up five days a week.  It sounds like Joy will moderate on Fridays when Whoopi is out.  Maybe the six co-hosts are to ensure there are at least four each show? Let's face it, how many times were all the co-hosts at the table for a couple week?   I remember one show this year when Nicole was the only one who showed up and they had to drag some random guest co-hosts in from somewhere.

So now the chairs at the table will still rotate but a producer won't have to scramble for fill-ins because they have six co-hosts and however many "contributors"  (hahaha that cracks me up)  - lots of time off for everyone!!!  Pffft.

Yeah, you're right. Whoopi would get winded showing up five days a week. Maybe they are starting Joy out slowly to moderate and then Whoopi will leave to "spend more time with her family"

Friday shows may go from currently being the worst to being the best!

First off, if it's a shitshow, it's primarily that way because of Whoopi.  Nothing like dragging it to the ground and then badmouthing her creation.

Second, if anyone, ever, at my former office said "I can't wait to leave this shitshow" over and over, I can guarantee that TPTB would say, "Here's your hat, what are you waiting for?," escort her to the door, and have her stuff shipped by courier to her home.  Bad attitude is toxic, and in this case it's not just an office being affected, it's millions of viewers and advertisers' dollars.  I am amazed that TPTB at The View aren't shitcanning her ass for insubordination.  Baffling.

Yes, I feel bad for him. I suspect when he was recruited he was sold a bill of goods only to find when he arrived that the reality was much much different. Way too many cooks in this particular inedible soup, leaving him with a nice but effectively meaningless and powerless title. He clearly had a pretty good gig at MSNBC and I suspect he has long regretted making the move even though I'm sure it felt like a positive move at the time. It's a shame. From what I saw of him on Maddow in front of the camera, he seems like a really good guy with a great sense of humor. I hope he lands on his feet somewhere better and puts this show far behind him in his rearView mirror. Poor Bill.

BTW, the show was switched midseason from the entertainment division to the news division, not the other way around. I'd hoped that might be an improvement in terms of actually getting their facts straight and a better fit for Wolff but as far as I could tell the show somehow seemed even less newsy after the switch which is bizarre and indicative of just how badly screwed up the show has become.

Does anyone think the switch from ABC Entertainment to ABC News was simply moving the budget to NYC?   ABC Entertainment is headquartered in California, while the New division is in NYC.    I still maintain the head honchos never really watched this show - they just look at the bottom line and as long as it's in the black this show stays on the air.

I feel that Bill Woolf was screwed in a similar fashion to Rosie Perez, as far as being sold an idea of what the experience would be and then getting the exact opposite once he signed the dotted line. That Variety article completely throws him under the bus for The View mess when it's clear he was never given enough control to be responsible for it.

In order of how much they were screwed over:

1. Bill Wolff

2. Rosie Perez

3. Rosie O'Donnell

4. Jenny McCarthy

5. Nicolle Wallace

Here's a longer article from Variety about Bill Wolff quitting.

I feel for the guy.  What a colossal clusterfuck!  It does crack me up though that the author of the article seems to think the show went 'adrift' when Babs and Bill left since I think it's been circling the drain for years.

It was circling the drain for quite a few years before B&B left.  I don't think any real improvements will be able to be made until Whoopi is gone because it seems like the people in charge would rather give in to her for the most part so they don't have to deal with her coming at them. That is unless it's something that embarrasses the whole show and network like her stance on Bill Cosby which got so much unwanted attention. I wish her idiotic stances on other things had gotten as much attention because it may have gotten her out the door sooner.

Whoopi just HAS to have shares of this mess. They keep letting people go who, a good fit or not, really didn't have much do with it becoming what it is, crap. Long sentence there, lol. Any way, quite a while ago, Sherri tweeted that she pictured Whoopi saying "Why did I hire her?" in reference to some of Sherri's antics on the show. She didn't "they" she said "I".

TPTB should be let go.

Wow. That article is harsh and it sounds to me like a good 50% of it is some ABC "source" that is doing some serious ass covering by throwing Wolff under the bus. Frankly, it also wouldn't surprise me if some of the uglier leaks this whole past season came from the bitter Walters/Geddie camp and/or Whoopi's.

For Wolff's sake and both Rosies and Nicolle and everyone else who got screwed by this past cluster fuck of a season, I hope season 19 sinks like a stone. I won't be watching.

He selected her without conducting a chemistry test with the other co-hosts, who were taken by surprise by her hiring. (“I didn’t even know she was being considered,” O’Donnell quipped to Variety last year, although Perez ended up getting along with her co-hosts.)

Sherri suggested Rosie Perez

Back in June at the 13th Annual Samsung Hope for Children Gala in NYC, E! News spoke to Shepherd about who she thought should replace Barbara Walters on the longstanding morning show.
"I would love to see a Latina sit at the table," Shepherd told E!. "Rosie Perez would be amazing. I always try to put the hit on Rosie."

This is not related but it reminded me that I've wanted to ask several times...WHY are the co-hosts now allowed to take all kinds of "gifts" that are presented on the show.  Previously that was a definite no-no...by contract.

Bill Wolff has landed safely as an Executive Producer of Chelsea Handler's upcoming late-night show for Netflix. More his speed.

Sounds like good news. I'm glad to see someone was smart enough to snap him up quickly. I wonder how long they'd been in negotiations with him prior to his departure announcement from the View? It sounds like he's going to have to relocate to the west coast though. That'll be a big change.

Phew, good for Bill, I wonder how Allison feels about the relocation.

Hysterical about Joy and booking the Clintons.  What's up with that  Whoopster?

Overall, Behar says the timing of her return after two years off was perfect.

"I wanted to do other things," she muses. "I wrote plays, I wrote my one woman show. I had parties, I had people over, and now they asked me back."

Behar adds that money wasn't the main motivation, either.

"They made me a better offer all around. The regime is better, and I'm coming back on my terms, that's why I said yes."

So awesome for Joy!

I found this on Facebook.... seems they actually had a discussion on Fox and Friends.

http://www.rawstory.com/2015/09/brian-kilmeade-scolds-hasselbeck-over-team-baptisms-are-you-playing-football-or-are-you-going-to-church/

Fox News hosts Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Brian Kilmeade clashed on Thursday over whether or not it was proper for a Georgia high school to allow mass baptisms on school grounds.

According to Hasselbeck, there had been “much critique from those who don’t believe” after First Baptist Church in Villa Rica posted videos of mass baptisms being performed at Villa Rica High School prior to a football game.

Guest host Pete Hegseth argued that there was nothing wrong with baptisms on school grounds because it was “a beautiful expression of faith on a voluntary basis.”

“When you are baptized, it is an act of will,” Hasselbeck agreed. “So you can’t necessarily force someone to give their hearts. You must give your heart over to the Lord.”

Hasselbeck, whose husband played for the NFL, speculated that “many of those kids would not say they were forced” to participate.

Kilmeade, however, took the side of the Freedom from Religion Foundation.

“The thing is, with a team that tells you to wear the same thing, show up and eat the same stuff and make sure you show up at the same time, and do everything together and prove that you are going to be part of a larger group, if the group decides to go and get baptized, to put your hand up and go sit against the wall is the beginning of maybe not being part of the team,” Kilmeade warned. “There could have been pressure there. Personally, I’m stunned that a football team would do something like this.”

“Football teams pray all the time though,” Hasselbeck replied. “So the other side of this is so many teams get together and pray before they go out there.”

“How many got baptized?” Kilmeade asked.

Hasselbeck insisted that the baptisms could not have been coercive because only 18 members of the team agreed to receive the Christian sacrament.

“The majority of the team seems to have not been baptized if you go on numbers alone,” she quipped.

“I just think it’s inappropriate,” Kilmeade insisted. “You could be the most fervent Christian, you’re there to play sports, come together as a team. I don’t think you should be getting baptized before or after an event.”

“But what argument are you going to make?” Hasselbeck opined. “Oh no, my kid loves God and is going to love other people?”

“Are you playing football or are you going to church?” Kilmeade shot back.

Doesn't Whoopi repeat endlessly that Bill and Hillary are her close friends?  How is it that Joy hasn't even returned for a minute and she's booked both of them? :)

http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/gossip/joy-behar-talks-donald-trump-led-back-view-article-1.2347493

The final paragraph....

Behar can be seen on the show five days a week for three months until Candace Cameron Burre returns from filming "Fuller House." After that, she will be on most days and will moderate every Friday in place of Goldberg - who is plans to work four days a week..

Makes me wonder how many of these HS football players didn't realize they had already been baptized....or very recently "believed."

Seems to me that HS football players do not do everything together....ie -"eat the same things....and do everything together." Although for some odd reason the need to show up at the same time and wear the same thing.

What idiots.

And there's that word again:

Its meaning must be "evolving", as people who mangle the English language are wont to say in their defense.

This must be a sign of the apocalypse because the potted plant who sits on the right made sense.

Is this morning television or biblical school?  She seems to be preaching about "The Lord" at every opportunity lately.   The Lord and "loving all people"…..um, she must have had an aneurysm causing selective memory, because she doesn't seem to recall what a hateful, junk-yard dog she is.

I live about 20 miles from the Villa Rica high school and it's been all over the local news. It was the football coach who asked a local preacher to "officiate" the baptisms. The coach actually took part in dunking students in the aluminum "baptism pools." Whether or not the students agreed to it or not, it was all dead wrong. I imagine most of the students felt forced to participate out of team spirit instilled by the coach -- who should be fired IMO.

Before reading about the football baptism here, I had linked it on the other thread.  I check the website NewsHounds regularly, and they love to put articles about Bitsy being stupid on their site.  The motto is "we watch Fox News so you don't have to".

Anyway - does Bitsy even THINK about this from a parent's perspective?  Would she be OK with her son coming home from football practice announcing that he was now baptized and so belonged to a different religion than she did?

thinking about it from that perspective would be a start to understanding why it is wrong.

What if little Grace came home from softball practice one day and announced that the coach had each player read from the Koran?  Me thinks there would be a vigilante group banging down the coach's door and beating him to a pulp (the Hasselbeck punishment mentality).

Elisabeth only understands her perspective (well I don't even think she understands, more like parrots what is told to her) and anyone with a different one is flat out wrong.  I have a family member who is a Christian and she simply refuses to believe any other religion is valid.  To her Christianity is real and all others are a plot against Christianity.  IMO that is Elisabeth's way of thinking.  It's that team mentality she has.  It's always her "team" is in some battle with an opposing team.  For someone who was on Twitter talking about love she sure has a lot to learn.

I know radaronline isn't trustworthy, but even gossip rags can be right sometimes.

I'm imagining a setup of Rosie O guesting this year, Whoopi/Raven getting booted before the following season starts, Rosie O takes over the moderator seat now that "the stress in her personal life is resolved" and Padma comes on full-time with Joy. Maybe Candace swapped for Nicolle in that case? Don't rain on my parade!!

http://radaronline.c...st-appearances/

I love Rosie, I don't care what anyone says. I know she has some serious problems and she has admitted to them. But I believe she's a loving person underneath it all and I find her entertaining. The Donald Trump hair flip, that shit never gets old LMAO. I use to watch her talk show it was just always so bubbly and positive. The more people shit on her the more I root for her.

Oh and I've always loved Behar, so it's good she's returning.

They need to get this cohost shit together. There are too many of them and none of them are entertaining IMO. Joy, Rosie would be great. Get a Lisa Ling type, maybe it's Raven Simone that could foot that bill, I'm not sure yet because I can't stomach an episode long enough to truly tell how she's doing.

Most importantly, get rid of Whoopi, boy has she become an angry, old woman, jeesh. Disappointed in what she's become, ugh. She's a true downer and needs to go.
