Girl Meets Farm - General Discussion

Recommended Posts

I've been subscribing to Blue Apron since the beginning of the pandemic (it was hard to find fresh proteins plus not wanting to shop in a store), and like it enough to still be using it. In choosing future meals I see they have a special offering from Molly.

On Sunday, I believe they did the farmers lunch.  She made her version of a blossom cookie which was massive, and had 1/2 Hershey bar on top instead of a kiss.  Yeah, they were that big.

It looked lucious.

I noticed that Molly's wardrobe and overall appearance reverted back to the "look" she had when the show began and continued after Bernie was born.  That is the cute "apron and neat top combo" in interesting colors.  The addition of false eyelashes didn't interfere with her overall "look."

Last year (maybe last 2 yrs), she went for a more "casual" look verging on "sloppiness" with jeans and oversized tops.  Maybe it had something to do with her 2nd pregnancy.

I prefer this "look."  She looks professional and adorable!!

I've enjoyed Molly's recipes since the blogging days, but her comment about not needing dark chocolate on this cookie was blasphemy. Blasphemy, I tell you. (Also, that big milk chocolate bar looked like ... er, unfortunate.)

I’m a fan of herring (mostly in cream or mustard sauces) and those darling open-face sandwiches I had in Denmark (tartines;-) and I used to hit the food court at Ikea for Swedish pancakes and lingonberry jam. But no, nothing is going to make Swedish meatballs look appetizing. Not sure about that cake, either. And I eat a bit of smoked salmon for every breakfast.

I wonder if her  awful hosting of the baking championship was prepay a factor in her losing ratings for GMF.

She had another season after the baking championship fiasco so I think she's safe.  They are showing reruns periodically.  Hopefully there will be a new contract.

I do wonder if her growing family and the restaurant are now the priority, though.

When I was looking her up after reading the speculation here I found an article that said she signed a new 2yr contract last Febuary.

I was disappointed in Sunday's episode.  She made chocolate chip pancakes and then topped them with a yogurt whipped cream.  The reason I'm disappointed is that she demonstrated how to make the pancakes but not the yogurt whipped cream.  It's okay that she demod the pancakes but we've seen pancakes be made before on TV.  Yogurt whipped cream is something different and I would have much preferred she dedicate some time to showing us that.  She didn't even provide a recipe.

Decided to watch the new season to see what the latest batch of recipes look like... still midwestern, Jewish-Asian or random.  This was a themed episode - she was preparing a superhero party for her nieces 4th birthday.    To me, the menu seemed more suited to the adults than kids:

A cheeseball appetizer, where the ball is covered with mini pepperoni slices and served with homemade crackers

Spaghetti tossed with pesto and topped with a blob of burrata cheese that is cut open at serving

A chopped salad, including cubed salami, tomatoes, olives, etc. served in individual bread bowls

The birthday cake was chocolate with cream cheese frosting and had pureed beets as an ingredient -- she stuck some fondant shapes on it to make it fit the superhero theme.

I watched this on the FN app and there was no intro with Molly's usual speech about farm, husband Nick, children - not sure if this is gone for good or because I watched on the app.  The farm kitchen is the same.  Molly is still too smiley and gooey, the production team is still using stop-motion filming where the ingredients slide around the countertop.   I made it till the last 5 minutes.

I watched the new episode on cable.  Same.  No "intro" with Nick and the kids.  At the end I waited to see when the show was filmed.  It was 2024.  I watched a few "new" episodes last year and each seemed "dated" insofar as Molly's "look" and wardrobe style.  I also waited until the end to see when those episodes were filmed.  It was 2022.

I'm guessing the show was not renewed and FN has these extra episodes "in the can" to show.

I say that because I see Molly on Instagram.  She has a new, very modern, short haircut and she looks very thin and "fresh".  Her posts are mostly about different lunches she prepares for her girls, but there are other posts about different other food-related subjects.

She has the restaurant and a new book and different other projects so I'm guessing she was ready to let the show go (whether or not the channel offered her renewal or not, we'll never know).

Don't think she's totally severed ties with the Network.  She was just on Wildcard Kitchen.

A few years ago, Molly was given a host job on one of FN Seasonal Baking Championships series.  The series was seriously panned with her as a host.  Of course, her "Girl Meets Farm" show was in full swing and continued.

I don't think a spot appearance on another FN show would negate the status of her show.

I never knew how strong the show's ratings were, or if her audience was growing or decreasing.
