Gotta say that I agree with Roy Wood about the love for Black Panther. Okay, "Wakanda" isn't an all-purpose word like "aloha," but Roy did a great job explaining why the mvoie is relevant. I got a kick when Roy suggested white people could dress up, then specifying either Martin Freeman or Andy Serkis.

Good show. The opening about the shortage of KFC in Britain was great. I hadn't heard about that. I thought Trevor would make a joke about Trump eating it all, but saying that this was the one international problem Trump could understand was much better. Loved the pic of Trump throwing a bucket of KFC like he did the rolls of paper towels. And once again, Trevor does a terrific impression, this time of an English child.

I liked his line about there being a waiting period to have conversations about guns. All of the Fox news clips with the stupid suggestions about how to deal with this issue made me want to throw up. Trevor's asides to the camera as he came up with his own inane ideas was helpful to my soul.

I enjoyed Roy's bit about Black Panther. I would love to see this movie, but honestly I'm worried about people talking to the screen. I hate that no matter who does it.

Fox News has always been terrible, but it seems from the clips I've seen on the show they've just grown so reprehsible every month into this administration. I'm so hoping the chickens come home to roost and the network just crumbles.

Trevor seemed extremely impressed with the high schoolers demanding there be change to the way America sees guns. Which is why I was rather disappointed he brought up the whole Tide pod dare craze at the end. Because it's people, like that fucking idiot we saw on LWTwJO, who will use that as an example of what is wrong with the nation's youth and will try to tie that, among others, as a means to discredit them and their movement.

I haven't seen Black Panther, but I plan to this weekend. Will I be alright?

I noticed watching the show, Marco Rubio looks like a Ferengi with his ears out like that.

There's now a podcast called The Daily Show with Trevor Noah: Ears Edition, which appears to be the show, just audio-only.  It just launched this week, so far only Taylor Kitsch and Ludacris episodes are posted.  I haven't listened yet -- I looked at today's episode with "conservatives question the legitimacy of Parkland survivors" in the description and was too demoralized by the world to actually listen.  The legitimacy???  How fucking dare they.

That the Florida state government wouldn't even debate guns was a snowflake move, if I may use that word that I actually hate. They're afraid of looking unconcerned about gun victims. Oh, and the graphic of "The Florida Pornject" made me smile.

I liked it because I made the comment yesterday that if the shooting victims were being played by actors then they'd be in their 30s. And I think that was the joke they were going for. I felt validated in my joke crafting. I think being one note was the point because the argument that the kids are actors is just as one note. So I don't think the piece was intended to be funny per se more than sardonic.

Lupita is radiant in a way I've never seen another person be radiant. She always glows like she has her own internal light source. I don't think I've ever seen anyone look so graceful, powerful, and beautiful. It wasn't just in this interview, it's every time I've seen her. Is she magic? It makes total sense she'd be a superhero.

Rubio is such a joke and just indicative of how spineless congress is. 

When the kid asked about the NRA money Rubio should have said, "this is about the larger issue of money in politics." And it really is. But he's a chump. Oh, he's "evolved" on magazines. Only took the murder of hundreds of kids. So brave. 

I think Trevor was wrong about more guns in school = admitting defeat. It means they don't care enough and want to make sure they stay on message to sell more guns. That's it.

Trevor and Lupita Nyong'o talking Black Panther and Born a Crime gave me life.  Loved every bit of it.  Bonus - Lupita was on Jimmy Kimmel recently, and her reaction to Jimmy's explanation of Groundhog Day was pretty much exactly what Trevor says about it every year - "And you think AFRICANS are superstitious?"  Ha!

Kudos to the show for finding that appalling anecdote from Trump letting the guy who fell off the stage to die. 

I didn't like the sports piece this time around. The better doping joke would have been from the Russian curler imo.

Let's face it. Trump has no idea that his wife's parents came here because of chain migration. 

Ramos needs to get off his beef with Obama about immigration. I don't think Obama knew ahead of time that most of his first year was going to be dealing with the economy. And healthcare was his #1 priority domestically. Sure, he's not above criticism and probably could have done more, but saying "He promised me and then broke that promise" just comes off as naive. Here's your (general) argument that perfect is the enemy of good. Obama didn't do the one thing you wanted, so you're going to bring it up for six years. 

I also noticed when Trevor brought up how 'deportees' were defined, and that Obama didn't actually deport more than Bush, he changed the subject to Trump. Maybe your continual pushing on it led fellow Mexican-Americans to not vote in 2016. 

On the other hand, he totally deserves a free shot at Trump. No way Trump knew he was actually an American citizen. "Go back to Univision." Quite.

I LOVE those videos! They have one for when he's told that Original recipe Law & Order was cancelled; one about Indian food and menus, I think also when Young Justice was cancelled. Does HUD even need a dining room set? I imagine fancy private corporations could have a nice dining room, but all employees in general either eat at their desks or in the cafeteria. Business lunches would be in a conference room. I just don't get the mindset that believes it's ok to have the government buy expensive, unnecessary furniture.

I made one back in 2009 after Toronto FC came back to defeat Montreal 6-1 in the Canadian Champions League tournament, after needing a win by at least a four goal difference in the game in order to win it all. It became know to us TFC supporters as The Miracle In Montreal. I made Hitler and his Nazi stooges out to be the brain trust of the Columbus Crew - our major MLS rivals at the time - who were going over their opponents in their group stage for the upcoming CONCACAF Champions League tournament. The guy talking to Hitler mentioned that one of their possible opponents were "the champions of Canada". Hitler chuckles saying Toronto FC won't be one of their opponents as they don't stand a chance against Montreal. That's when they told him the bad news about TFC winning and advancing and... well, you can only imagine what happens next. You have to be a fan of Toronto FC to love it and appreciate it. Something my fellow supporters did as they watched it and thoroughly enjoyed it. Those memes work very well in a sporting theme. Less so with politics, depending on which side of the spectrum you fall under.

I forgot about that. If I wrote about the stuff he’s done, and read it to myself later, I’d be upset all the time. Like a messed-up version of Christmas.

I don’t think I’ve heard anyone done that on TV. Looking back, I’d figured stuff would be set up to suppress that stuff like that.

I know February is over, but if Roy ever puts on that mustache again, I wouldn’t mind at all.

ETA: If that HUD money went towards beds, I'd understand. Ben loves to sleep. Trevor does a sweet impression of him, rating with Jay Pharaoh.

I think so. At the start, I found Ronnie's piece to be a little dumb, but the wrestler did have a point about the broad strokes, and when Ronnie got into the ring the both of them played the audience. Though his opener about the democrats being awful at communicating is correct. 

So what I took from it was that voters are largely uninformed and if you can brand it right, they'll get behind you.

I was rolling my eyes as soon as a "robot ethicist" was introduced. Seems like she was more anti-masturbation than anything though. I was amused how Desi played it up. I'm on the fence that AI is not even remotely close to the dangerous levels people make it out to be, and liked how the segment was played with a bit of a smirk.

I didn't think she was anti-masturbation. She didn't have any issues with using a dildo, pillow, or vegetable. It's just robots.

I used to picture Sam Nunn when Sam Nunberg's name came up (at the start of Trump's term, I suppose). I find it hard to believe he's really that dumb to go on TV shows and babble all over the place. I don't know what he's up to, but I read an article with some theories.

Before watching the show (this morning), I saw that photo of the little girl staring with her mouth open at Michelle Obama's portrait. It warmed my heart.

Putting aside the fact that 'robot ethicist' isn't a job, when Desi asked her what's the difference if she used a vibrator or the robot, I don't think she responded with much beyond 'it's not a person' and went into how masturbating in general isolates people, etc. Prior to that, Desi asked something like 'so what if you're not with someone' and again wasn't really addressed. I just didn't get much of substance in the discussions.

Trevor is right about Conway though; she's ride or die. No way anyone is getting any dirt from her.

While I wait for my robot lover to roll off the assembly line, I choose to take an uncharacteristically optimistic stance and say that perhaps if recreational sex is taken care of mechanically, people can focus on other kinds of love. Conversely, people are horrible so the less I have to deal with them, the better.

I didn't like the segment about sex robots. I thought Desi and everyone else didn't really clarify or finish the ideas they were trying to represent. 

The problem with a robot sex doll that looks close to human is that it makes men forget that women are people and may have their own feelings about whether or not they want to have sex.  If a man is surrounded by robots who look like real women and always accommodate his sexual needs, then what happens when he goes to the real world and tries to demand sex from real women. He's so used to robots saying yes that maybe he forgets he needs consent from real women. A vibrator, or any other device or object probably has limits as to how much people can conflate or confuse it with human being.  Those robots may not be disguisheable from humans and that raises real concerns about consent. 

I wondered if some of the interviewees had trouble making their points, because Desi wouldn't really let them answer.

That's really what the robot ethicist should have been saying. To be fair though, the robot designer also said he was working on male robots too, and they showed that. When they were talking about how facial recognition doesn't recognize black people, I couldn't help but think of the episode of Better of Ted where they installed a bunch of sensors for the lights, bathroom, etc., and it turned out it didn't recognize black people. So they were all walking around in the dark until the CEO got the brilliant idea to have a white person follow each of them around.

So we're back to video games now? Wasn't this thoroughly disproven 25 years ago? Anything to avoid the root cause. 

Does anyone think Trump has a tenth of a clue as to what his son actually watches? He probably forgets the kid's name.

I know she's more well known for Lindsey Bluth, but Portia killed it in this show. 

Monday's episode - Trump *always* goes off the rails when he's at a rally. I don't know why Kelly let's him. On the other hand, he's so unhinged that I'm surprised no one tried to run a 'did you order the code red' style con on him to get him to incriminate himself. 

I've heard this a lot and they said it on the show - What exactly does "it could work" mean when meeting with Kim. North Korea sees the meeting only as getting recognized as a legit nuclear power. There's no way any of the 3 adults in the administration is going to let Trump say anything off the cuff or be alone with Kim. North Korea isn't going to give up nuclear weapons, so I don't know what people are expecting from this. It's basically lose-lose for the US.

It's been a while since I saw an interview with David Byrne. It was a revelation, seeing him actually throwing his head back and laughing! For those of us who were Talking Heads fans back in the day, it's hard to imagine a more unusual sight. He was so stoic and strange, I don't think I ever even saw him smile back in those days. Glad to see age has loosened him up!

I was hoping Tillerson would grow a spine and refuse to step down over a tweet and force the president's hand to fire him in person.

I thought Tillerson did refuse to be fired via tweet. He ultimately got a phone call, is what I heard.

Comey found out he was fired by seeing it on TV.

President "You're Fired" sure does like his humiliation theater.

Byrne was on Colbert's Late Show recently, too-- he did an interview and then a performance. It was quite enjoyable.
