I'm extremely over Mel's "I need a man" act. At least she wasn't the over the top "single, very ready to mingle" cougar act she was in previous weeks.

Maybe it's me, but this episode was sort of meh for me. I enjoyed the choir, even though I'm not a Christian. I'm not sure if they can headline Vegas for a few days though. I could see them touring churches around the nation though. The brother and sister act...to me it was just a lot of spinning, some of different kinds. I enjoy Salsa, but this did not excite me like Salsa usually does. Kecchi had a lovely performance.

I prefer last season. There are so many people from that season that I remember, more so than a lot of the contestants of this season.  No offense to any of them.

Did Heidi say that there aren't a lot of singers? Or did I hear wrong? Last time I checked, there were quite a few of them.

It was pretty funny when after Oskar and Gaspar did their thing and Ed Sheeran 2.0 sang, all the judges except Heidi were standing and applauding.  Simon told Heidi to get up and she just ignored him.   She's brave.

Tonight's list:

12. Oskar & Gaspar. Creative, I just expected more.

11. Colin Cloud. I just got the feeling she wasn't "random", that she didn't write on the paper, etc. That the whole thing was a setup. So not into this whole act.

10. Final Draft. Felt like another step down after the last song, which was a big step down from their audition song. What happened?

9. Diavolo. I just didn't get a lot of "wow" moments. Which makes me think of "Razzle Dazzle" from the musical Chicago. Spectacle over substance.

And now it gets tough, as I liked all 8 of the remaining acts.

8. Mike Yung. Better than his last song, not as good as his first, but very very solid.

7. Oscar Hernandez. I think he did forget the choreography, but he turned in a solid performance too. Can the whole "big guy dancing well" thing keep going? Not sure...

6. Danell Daymon and Greater Works. I normally love a choir, but doing a Grease song? Seemed weird. Still very talented.

5. Junior and Emily Alabi. Definitely a step up from last time. New stuff too, really great.

4. Angelina Green. She sounds so much older than she is. Love her voice.

3. Sara and Hero (and Loki!). Love a dog act, loved the new tricks, loved the new pupper. (Don't know if she can win the whole thing, but PLEASE someone give this girl a place to live!)

2. Chase Goehring. Supremely talented. Enough said.

1. Kechi. Because what better way to close the night than an inspirational song from a phenomenal singer from Houston? She's amazing. Voice of an angel. I agreed with the whole "coming into her own" idea.

First, what is with this new style where women wear body suits and then there skirt is like a bunch or strings hanging down or very very open.  Tyra, and I think Mel, were both wearing that look tonight.  I don't think it's a flattering look when neither a model or an in shape pop star can make me see the style's appeal.

I thought everyone did well tonight, although I do have my preferences.

I almost love dogs too much to root for them if that makes sense.  (I'm not sure it does.)

I actually like the original song kid more than other singers.  The choir was amazing again.  This is one of those acts where I know I'd love them even more in the same room.  I do feel like Oscar just jumped around a bit.  I think his earlier performances were stronger.

I think I've liked him in the past but tonight was not good.  It did take too long to get to the point.  And when he was "randomly" pointing to the crowd, you could kind of tell that he wanted to end up in a certain area.  He pointed at the right side of the theater really quickly and noticeably slowed down when he was pointing at the area where his "random" girl was.  And when Simon didn't say "stop," instead of going back the other way, he started pointing to the right and moved quickly to the left.  (Or at least I think that's what happened after only watching it once).  Since it did feel like it took forever to get to the end of this thing, they should have eliminated this part but I imagine he was doing something about Bieber during this distraction.

Notice that there was a subtle cue from the performer when he wanted Simon to say "stop."  Simon was teased for taking too long to say anything; then notice that Simon was waiting for a signal.  The performer said something like "Just tell me when you want me to ... stop."  Simon then said "stop" at that cue.  This was at the section the performer wanted, except another lady with blond hair seated, several rows lower in that section, also stood up for quite a while.   Eventually she sat down when she wasn't addressed.

Additionally, maybe most random audience members in the theater would probably be willing to agree they've been bitten by a dog in the arse, even if not true.  Just play along for fun, as long as not agreeing to an ultra-embarrassing situation that never really happened.

I think it fine for Simon and the other judges + Tyra to be in on "the fix" of a magic/illusion act, even in rounds of judges cuts.  The performer is rated on execution and the ability to sell their act to the audience.

I thought Heidi said something like "but there are a lot of singers."  I don't remember thinking she was wrong about the number of singers, so maybe you just heard it wrong.  I don't know for sure though.

I like Colin Cloud, but I was thinking that it just has to be the people in the audience agreeing with him because they feel intimidated to not do so or just want to help play along.  I noticed the blonde lady who was in front of the one he chose was standing up as well.  I really thought the whole thing was planted and planned.  I think they told the woman what to write.  A funny plug for The Biebs though, I guess!

Mel B's strange need a man, any man, act is ridiculous.  I thought Simon had tried to shut that down before.  She was even lusting after the 16-year-old Mirror Image twins, one of whom supposedly has a girlfriend, and the other...?  At least In The Stairwell (Air Force dudes) were legal, being 18-22.  She's crazy with the hair do's and this act.  I really hope she's gone next year.

The choir outdid themselves tonight.  I really enjoyed their performance!

I absolutely love Sara, Hero (and Loki!).  I just have this affinity with her and her story and I do love her dogs and the performances.

Second week in a row we did not get a live performance during the live show.  Diavolo were clearly a pre-recorded act.  None were winded and the apparatus was nowhere to be seen.  I can understand why, after last week especially.  What they do dwarfs all the other physical acts, dancers included.  Given they are professional, it really isn't fair.  I was trying to figure out what paltry sum each of the performers would end up with.  It would easily be less than $25K after taxes.

I totally agree with the other posters who suspect Colin had plants in the audience.  Having said that, I haaaaaaate when a jidge, as Heidi did this time, complains about complexity.  So much of TV is about dumbing down to the LCD viewer.  The audience sure demonstrated why this is true.  They had no clue when to get excited.  Then, some did, and they missed punch lines.  They just would not let the act breathe.  I give Colin props for attempting a multi-faceted trick.  It all worked, too - except for the too-obvious plants.

The choir were the clear best singing act this week.  All the rest need to go.  They won't though.

Last week's act were the best of the three LIVE shows, top to bottom.  This was 2nd-best.  Any chance the wild cards will not include any singers?

I have said this before about these kinds of acts being a set up with the judges or certain "audience members" being in on it, but got told that method is old school.  I don't care.  I still think that's what is happening.

Don't forget that the prize is paid out over 40 years!  Unless you want the lump sum then you are down to $650K or so, and still have to pay taxes on that.

Ain't no malfunction stopping this choo-choo train:

12. Oscar Hernandez - So what incriminating material does Oscar have on Simon and who must we report this obvious extortion to? This was pretty decent as long as you muted the sound and pretended the backing dancers were the ones out of sync. I mean yes, he's entertaining, but half-way through the act it looked like even he was seeing this routine for the first time. The novelty of "fat guy twerks to obnoxious music" ran out long ago and Oscar is just here so Simon can live out his dream vicariously through him.

11. Final Draft - If this was the final draft, I'd hate to find out what the rough draft sounded like. Having these guys screech like baby mice added nothing to a growing list of singers already on the show.

10. Angelina Green - Kids grow up so fast, don't they? It seems like just 2 weeks ago Angelica was only 9. All jokes aside, this was a puzzling GB pick in the audition rounds and it continued to be one here. Yes, she has a decent voice, but the nerves really got to her and you could tell. I guess I should be happy she didn't pick another Ed Sheeran song, the show was starting to look and sound like his tribute concert.

9. Junior and Emily - Well, they gave it their all and it worked well enough for now, but you could still clearly tell the human spinner is the only real signature move they have as they tried masking it with fancy hand movements and sound effects taken from Michael Bays favourite spotify playlist. I can't see them having anything else to show us, but they deserve credit for redeeming themselves.

8. Chase Goehring - Mini-Sheeran did good and I continue to appreciate how he's willing to put his own music out there, but I can't exactly see anyone humming this tune tomorrow and the whole thing felt a bit sleepy at times. Still, he has charm even if he's not the best singer we have this season.

7. Kechi -I think she really outdid herself tonight, but my low placing of her comes from the fact that I simply wasn't that big of a fan of the song. It did manage to to show off her voice nicely though and like Mandy, she's proven she is far more than just a sob story and deserves to be in the competition.

6. Mike Yung - Mike continues to be a force of nature, but this felt a bit too forced, like he had just spent a day being dragged around various fashion outlets by an eager stage hand and just nodded along to everything the producers suggested to him. The guy could sing the phonebook and sound good and frankly it would probably have been more ineresting than this particular track.

5. Oskar and Gaspar - Yeah this was definitely a step in the right direction. It was essentially a Bond opening title sequence done live on stage, which sounds cooler than it actually is. Don't get me wrong, it WAS cool, but I still don't quite think they work as a solitary stage act. In a video or part of something bigger though? Amazing. Also these guys clearly haven't paid attention to the show if they think going with a bunch of random models and un-charismatic tech geeks to showcase these effects is a good way of gaining votes.

4. DaNell Daymon & Greater Works - They opened the show and were proabbly meant to be a nice little teaser for better things to come later but...I had fun? I like fun. The whole thing just felt big and professional and the amount of energy they all have on stage combined with the fun moves just made me feel happy.

3. Sara and Hero - And this is the point at which you stop reading and conclude I've lost my mind. I couldn't help myself but enjoy it this time around. I think Sara has gotten better each round and found new ways to surprise us. Starting off small and slow means she still has tricks to show us, where Pompeyo felt like they were starting to run out. It's not the greatest dog act in the world or anything, but it put me in a good mood so I'm letting them have this small victory in my rankings. Besides, the dogs looked like they were enjoying themselves more than anyone else on stage last night.

2. Colin Cloud - Legend has it that Colin's performance is STILL going as we speak. Now, I still really really like the guy and find his shtick creative and fun, it's something a bit different from the usual "IM A PSYCHIC" trope and I even think his showmanship is just fine...this just seemed a bit poorly planned out given the amount of time he was given and the end result ended up both feeling padded and awkwardly rushed at the same time. That being said, it was a good trick and I'm FAIRLY CERTAIN neither the girl on stage nor the one in the audience were plants in the traditional sense.

I don't usually like to dissect the tricks on this show so openly, but I feel I have to say a few words to guide people in the direction I really think some of his tricks work. I don't claim to know for certain, but based on things he has said before and the fact he does this exact routine with an audience every night at other festivals I can deduce that a lot his tricks involve "multiple realities" as in when we the TV audience hears him ask people to "think" of a memory, the audience might be asked to write it down and throw the paper into a bucket at the same exact time for example. So when he picks out the audience member, the trick for them is that Colin was able to pick out what they wrote down out of hundreds of other written papers, while the trick for the TV audience is him seemingly deducing stuff. That is just one example of how it can be done, but the trick with the woman on stage follows the same principle (hint: what the woman is "filling out" out the paper might not be what we are led to believe by Colin). So while the trick can certainly be done with plants, I choose to give him the benefit of the doubt here and say he's doing it the much harder way, unfortunately it's hard not to immediately go for the plant option as our first thought. This may be avoided if he would just stop doing the "I'm going to deduce something about you, random audience member" part as it clearly requires some sort of preparation we the TV audience have no clue about and the end result seems too good to be anything but a staged bit if presented the way it is, but I guess it's just there to sell people on the whole "Sherlock" idea.

1. Diavolo - I'm pretty sure a local amusement park is missing their ferris wheel, but it was all worth it. These guys continue to impress and innovate and continue to be one of the most unique acts this season. This is also why I'm terrified we might see some serious injustice being done in the results show, but fingers crossed...

I can't help but shake the feeling Bello would have sailed through tonight. You'd think with all the mishaps last week that this would have been a stronger QF, but it was an even bigger mixed bag.

Mike, Kechi and Chase should all be safe for a number of reasons while Oscar Hernandez and Junior & Emily seem like pretty obvious sacrifices Colin wasn't at his best, but still impressive enough to probably sail through considering the drought of magicians this year. Final Draft COULD pick up votes, but I'm hoping with Chase here their chances are slim. Things become interesting after that...

The episode was weak enough that Diavolo SHOULD sail through, but I also fear the worst. Let's just hope my fears are unjustified for now...Angeline Green looks to be our first GB act in danger, but I doubt she'll do any worse than ending up in the dunkin save, at which point the judges wont let her go even if she loses out on that. Oskar and Gaspar could land anywhere, but the act seems to be splitting people too much and their lack of a clear spokesperson/story makes me think we are waving them goodbye this week. I have a gut feeling Sara and Hero will surprise us once more and do much better than anyone ever would have guessed, leaving them to fight it out with the choir for that last spot.

To sum up my predictions, this is what I think will happen:

12. Junior and Emily

11. Oscar Hernandez

10. Final Draft

9. Oskar and Gaspar

8. DaNell Daymon & Greater Works (lose the judges choice)

7. Sara and Hero (win the judges choice)

6. Angeline Green (wins dunkin save)

5. Diavolo

4. Colin Cloud

3. Mike Yung

2. Kechi

1. Chase Goehring

Maybe it's me, but this episode was sort of meh for me.

If it was, you weren't alone.  A lot of it was watchable, but not overwhelming.

I liked Sara and Hero--and the opening was the first time in a long time I thought it was producer influence that didn't hurt the act.  (It was cheesy, but she made the most of it.)  If she doesn't win, I hope she gets a good contract somewhere.  I don't not-hope that for any of the other acts, but I'd pay money to see hers.

Colin Cloud had a challenge:  he did a trick that didn't need a plant (the knife part of the trick was done on Penn and Teller:  Fool Us), but looked like he was using a plant.  It's a sort of reverse-magic:  it's MORE of a trick than you think it is.  It would have been better as part of a longer act than fitting the pace of this show.

I try to be a Christian--and thought the choir was very good, I wasn't moved as much as I wanted to be.  Perhaps they're better live; a lot of "big" singing/dancing acts (and circus acts) work that way.

I'd forgotten that Kechi was from Houston.  She sounded great, and I wonder what she'll do in the finals.

We have liked Sara and Hero from the beginning, but initially it was more because of the dog and how he looked like he was having so much fun.  We never really expected they had a shot at winning.  Last night we felt she really stepped it up, and we loved the addition of Loki.   We thought they were great and are really hoping they make it through.  Would love to see them in the finals, and if the ventriloquist girl doesn't win it, these guys would be our second choice.  They just make us happy.  Period.  :)

We are split on Diavolo.  I love them; my husband doesn't get them.  I hope they make it through.  Kechi has a lovely voice and seems like a sweet girl.  We liked Colin as well.  Oskar and Gaspar was interesting, but it seems to be the kind of thing where it's more fun in smaller doses.  Not sure how they'd do headlining an act.

Cannot stand the brother-sister spinning act.  They bill themselves as salsa dancers, but they never actually dance the salsa.  They just spin and spin.  Oh look - he's holding her above his head, and he's spinning.  Now, she's on one foot, and she's spinning.  The handwork would have been more interesting if they'd actually been dancing while they were doing it.  I had no idea what the judges were talking about with it being "exciting" and "upping their game."  It was neither.  It was just more spinning.  We are bored out of our minds by these two.

The only acts I saw last night that I'd be okay sending through to the semi-finals were Sarah+Hero+Loki and Diavalo.  I didn't love either of them, but in contrast to the other acts on this particular quarter-final episode, I wouldn't mind seeing either of them again in the semis.  On the other hand, for me, not a single one of last night's acts was as good as several of the acts who've already been cut.

Sorry, I really don't like psychic or clairvoyance whatever act, I don't believe in this shit they are all fake in AGT, they shouldn't be on this show coz it's not a talent,  my opinion!

I think it's important to remember that these acts are just magicians/mentalists, the clairvoyants claiming to be real psychics or Colin acting like Sherlock Holmes are just stories, characters created to make the act more interesting, they are no more true than Piff being an actual magic dragon (sorry to break all your hearts). The talent is their ability to perform these magic tricks live.

At least there were no bad acts as every act did what they were supposed to do.   But, some were better...but first...

The Bad...

Tyra's hair and outfit...looked like a combo of Victoria's Secrets and Morticia Addams.  Seemed inappropriate for this show.

Mel's B outfit...looked like a newborn's baby blanket.

Heidi's outfit...looked like grandma's old couch.

Heidi's hair...a bun?  Really?  Looked like a maid.

Final draft...lead singer a bun?  No.

Simon called Angelina.....Angelica, twice.

Howie too often asking the audience to vote for an act.  Enough Howie.

The Good...

Simon looked great.

And now the talent...

12. Oscar Hernandez...a big guy dancing with loud and obnoxious music.  Wasn't entertained and couldn't wait for it to end.

11. Junior and Emily...they are talented, but it was mildly entertaining.

10. Colin Cloud....Too long and laborious and clumsy.   His worst performance.

9. Final Draft...They sing good, but no heart for me.

8. Oskar and Gaspar...Fun, but no big moment.  A step down from their earlier performance.

7. Sara and Hero...so much fun to watch.

6. Mike Yung...Can sing, but he was better before.

5. Chase Goehring...Good voice, but the quick singing was not good.

4.  DD and Greater Works...fun, energetic and good vocals.

3.  Angelina Green....Sweet voice, loved it.

1. and 1A.can't pick between them....

Diavolo ...can't look away, what imagination, what athletic skill.  Now that is originality.

Kechi ....Sometimes someone sings a song really good, but we are moved when emotion is put into it.  I could feel her in that performance.  Outstanding.

Wow! AGT fell flat on it's face again! The only acts I would put through would be Final Draft and Diavolo....really! LOL, I guess if we were all in the same room, many posters here would throw tomatoes at me because of my ratings, many of which are rated lower than what many had them. Oh well, here I go:

12. Oscar Hernandez - I've seen this big guy twerk and twerk again, but with different background dancers. Same routine, same moves, it's time he twerked out of here!

11. Junior and Emily - So Emily picked up her leg and did a few other moves that weren't enough to be considered as "upping one's game". We've seen the last of them.

10. Chase Goehring - What we have here is this years version of Grace Vanderwaal, but as a guy. Not a good voice. Not a good song. The way he was "talk singing", I thought he was going to recite poetry!

 9. Sara & Hero - Yesterday's performance was just a little better than her previous one. That's not saying much. Sara never should've gone through. Her performance was again a little sloppy and amateurish. I hope she has a home to go to when she's eliminated tonight.

 8. Colin Cloud - Colin blew me away when he first auditioned, but yesterday's performance was just bad! I think the girl was picked before hand and what about the rubber knife? Of course the girl was going to pick the rubber knife. It's too bad for Colin because I had him penned as one of the finalists.

 7. Danell Daymon & Greater Works - I don't know about anyone else but it bothered me that a gospel choir would be singing Grease's "You're the one that I want". It's a gospel choir group for crying out loud!! Besides, a choir isn't going to win AGT anyway. Having said that, I think America will probably save them.

 6. Angelina Green - Although she sounded a little nervous, she has one of the better voices in this competition. She certainly has a better voice than some of the younger "kids". She should advance.

 5. Oskar & Gaspar - I like this special EFX group, but the only thing I'm worried about them is that the person or persons have to be stationary and it could get kind of boring. I think they will be safe.

 4. Mike Yung - How you look is sometimes "everything". Mike has a good R&B voice but his looks are forgettable. He looks like just a man who would be pumping gas at a full service gas station. But, Mike will continue to pump out his voice in the next round.

 3. Kechi - She has a beautiful voice but the song she sang was um....I don't remember! The song was slow and dragged on. But her fans shouldn't worry about tonight.

 2. Diavolo - They were amazing! They topped their performance from the last time.

 1. Final Draft - Yep, Final Draft I say! For me, a song has to hit me a certain way. move me and take me to a place. Believe it or not, these guys did that! Now, I'm comparing the dude who sings in a higher pitch to Phillip Bailey of Earth Wind and Fire, but I thought about EWF and Bailey. Those were good times for me as a teenager. Great job guys!!

Until next time......

Just because they are a church choir does not mean they can't sing other types of songs.  Can you imagine what would've happened if DD & Greater Works had done a real religious song?  Too many non-religious people would have claimed to have been offended and off they'd go.

I'm usually meh on choirs on this show but I thought DD and Greater Works really stepped it up this round. Great song choice, great arrangement, loved the choreography. Awesome way to start the show, they really surprised me.

I felt like I had taken crazy pills as the judges praised Junior and Emily. They are so boring! What is exciting outside of the spin we've already seen a million times?

I think Oskar and Gaspar are cool (I love that video mapping technology is becoming more advanced and more in common use) but I don't think the act is right for this show. Also, who do they think cares that the creators are super secret and we never see them?

Sara and Hero! And Loki! Gosh, I love them so much. I found the Pompeyo family to be too chaotic, and even though Sara and Hero aren't the most polished act, they come off as more professional and I just enjoy them more.

Mel never lusted after Mirror Image, it was Howie who made the joke that they were cute (debatable, Mr. Mandel!) and that Mel should date one of them. She was immediately put off and reminded him that they were 16.

Just because they are a church choir does not mean they can't sing other types of songs.  Can you imagine what would've happened if DD & Greater Works had done a real religious song?  Too many non-religious people would have claimed to have been offended and off they'd go.

If they went deep into their gospel book and sang a song no one recognized, that could backfire on them but there are I think there are plenty of gospel-sounding songs or even gospel songs that are so ubiquitous they've gone secular.  Like Amazing Grace.  Or Oh Happy Day. Or they could have songs that used gospel choirs like "Like A Prayer."   Anything by Queen could be adapted too.  Or even old school motown.

But I did like the Grease choice.

Spoiler

But not the semi-final choice.

I think they lined up all the extremely dull acts for this night.

I don't usually like or agree with Heidi, but she was the only judge who stopped short at saying how boring that special effects act was. It was slow. It was dull. You put something like that in the lobby - in a case. People can look at it for a minute before they go in to watch the main act - in the theater.

It doesn't matter who America puts through on this night.  None of the acts are going to win this competition.
