At the end of last season he got a better job in New Orleans, so the first few episodes haven't featured her.

Is it me or did this last episode hint that the resolution will be a two man booth? Also how many old (Asian or Korean? I forget) women are listening to baseball on the radio? ?

I started watching this show last year and then for some reason, I stopped (I think it was because I went on vacation and then had so much stuff to catch up on when I got back). A few weeks ago I saw that S2 was about to begin and I realized I had never finished watching the first season! I finally watched the last few episodes and remembered how funny this show is. Throughout the reunion episode, I was waiting for some kind of Carrie situation but everyone was genuinely happy to welcome Brockmire back, which was nice to see. Can't wait to start S2!

I don't usually like flat-out debauchery, but I've found this season very funny. Jim's eulogy was great -- not as great as the sign saying "not that one" but great. Also, even as a rum drinker, his disdain for sugar alcohol was funny. I always find Lucy amusing, and everyone's consequences to Jim's tirade was also something to think about. Kind of want to see more of Jim's battles with the crawdaddy, but I've been having a good time.

Saw "Caught in a Rundown" about the "intervention"....WOW was that dark, and not that funny. I like the character and all, but I liked it more when it was at least a little about baseball and not just out and out debauchery..... and based on previews it looks like it'll get even darker. I guess New Orleans is the perfect setting for this season.

My issue this season is that the further they get away from baseball and Amanda Peet the less I like it. This was the worst episode by far of 2 seasons.

I donno i thought it was a good episode. I like when its funny but also gets "real" about brockmires issues. He seems very self aware how fucked up he is. His whole people only like him when hes fucked up was so sad.

To me there were still lots of funny parts like wheres this old guys drugs and raj and his fuck u to brockmire and brockmire really enjoying that were awesome! Pointing out everyones addictions was awesome too. Jim had so many interventions he could rate them.. bagels really? Lol is this crack or meth?

I saw Hank promoting season 2 in a GQ clip on YouTube so I gave the first two episodes a shot on Hulu, since I’m a massive Simpsons fan from back in the day.    I actually like Jules and Charles, dislike the Brockmire character and would kind of rather watch a show starring just Jules and Charles just trying to run a minor league team.  (I’ve always been fond of Amanda Peet and wish she had a bigger career.  She also looks amazing:  she looks 36 instead of 46.)

I started Ep 3 while typing this, and I actually like this one best.  They mentioned Slippery Rock, PA, which was a fun shoutout for this former western PAer, but I’m pretty sure they don’t have a minor league team—they have a university and a college team only.  :-)

I agree. I thought the intervention episode was still funny, and I liked that he KNOWS people prefer him when he's drunk and that's one of the reasons he's continued to drink. It's sad but his whole self image is based on being BROCKMIRE the personality, not Jim the guy. He knows that if they don't like him, he's out of a job so he is able to justify his drinking. Not only is that what people want, but he can rationalize it even further because not only he is a functional alcoholic but he NEEDS to be drunk in order to do his job at a level where people find him amusing.

Heh, and I laughed when he criticized their intervention snacks too. Bagels? Dude, you're in New Orleans so the least you could do is get some beignets but there are a million other delicious things in New Orleans that you could have brought for people to eat!

The funniest part of the intervention was the fact that the person in the Crawdad mascot suit was a teenage girl (she was late to the intervention because she couldn't get a ride). In retrospect, it makes all the interactions between Brockmire and the Crawdad that much funnier ... and twisted/wrong.

Hello. I LOVE Brockmire, but you figured that out already.

I could go in a hundred directions, but I will start with this:

I get the distinct impression that Jim is a victim. Sure, he goes out of his way- seemingly willingly in most situations- to engage in self-destructive behavior-that much is patently obvious.

My question, hypothetical, I suppose:

Do you think he had any substance abuse issues prior to "The Meltdown"?

I say absolutely not. He loved Lucy dearly, or so it seems to me  She crushed his soul. I mean he hosted Bob's son's bar mitzvah, for God's sake!!

Curious what others think.

I binged Season 2 and I'm glad that's how I ended up watching this. For a show that was already fairly dark, they really went a good deal darker. I think it worked, but I'm glad I wasn't deciding week to week if it was a bit much. Really missed Jules presence on a regular basis this season. I love Charles even more than I did Season 1, even though I far and away enjoyed Season 1 more. But really interesting content and direction this season and there was still plenty to enjoy and laugh at even though it was definitely a depiction of addiction and a downfall in the midst of a career resurgence. I'll be back next season for sure.

Am I the only one who finds this thing kind of weird/offputting? By "thing" I mean Joe Buck and other famous sportscasters using profanity. I mean, I know that they do it, there is more then enough 'hot/open mike' video of people like Chris Berman in a rage to be found on Youtube, but I don't know it'd be like watching Walter Cronkite curse.

Brockmire adds Tawny Newsome to season 3 cast

S3 is scheduled to premiere on April 3. More S3 info:

Damn, they added a lot of talent. The best part is the Costas joke.

Season three of ‘Brockmire’ is a bit messy and frenetic, but succeeds in setting show up for loftier ambitions (spoilers). Probably because season one was so brilliant, season two didn't really impress me. We'll see about three.

Just discovered that S3 had started.  Sitting here watching the first episode, it's been pretty good so far, with maybe the best part being a scene between Azaria and Simmons with a riff on the "Matt the Bat" thing, followed immediately by a Farmers Insurance commercial with Simmons.  I may never watch those commercials the same way again!

I thought Season 1 was terrific. Brockmire wrecks his life, gets the worst broadcasting job possible, dates a challenging woman. They could have had stories for years, yet by Season 2 all that good stuff evaporates. Dumb

I am really enjoying this season and I find myself laughing out loud a lot because the writing is outstanding and focus on the main funny character....Brockmire himself. The Yipkowski thing at the beginning as a quasi Ken Burns like parody was very funny. YMMV

Yes, I miss Jules and Charles, but I don't miss Morristown (the jokes about small dying rust belt towns were getting almost mean and not all that funny). I really, really dont miss the dark tone of last season and while Carrie Preston was immensely and enjoyably twisted, it all went too far and for too long. 

We have had our Jules visit...when do we get a Lucy stop in, and will it only happen once he starts a relationship with someone?

I laughed a lot during this episode. The whole scene where he's insulting "The Bat" while he's vomiting from the cancer was fantastic. I do wonder what it says about me that I enjoyed that scene so much. I'm also enjoying Martha Plimpton as his AA sponsor.

I was shocked! Shocked I tell you! To find out that Brockmire's mom is a real piece of work. Nice job by Linda Lavin. Setting up a fake FB page to fool her own daughter. Then saying that when the daughter said unkind things about her, it really upset her fake FB friends.

The tortoise (didn't catch the name) is 100 years old? Damn, s/he looks good. I wouldn't think older than 68.

She was great as Lucifer Mom. And her scheme made a lot of sense. A very tempting prospect. I hope we get to find out what Charles has been up to. The startup incubator he set up in New Orleans made it look like he was headed to big things. 

Jim should show Charles the Scorsese movie Casino. The Kansas City mob plays a big role in it.
