This one was a mess.  I was not surprised by her outcome.  Her poor son.  Candy was right it was hard because she was self supporting. Not sure who would want to see that but apparently enough to support her addictions.

I experienced immediate liking for Katie, and I also had the sick feeling that she would turn out to be a runner. The fam--except her Dad and son--what a bag of dicks. I usually have oceans of empathy for the family members but not this batch.

It is very very wrong of me but I do like the ones where the addicts don't accept help.  It makes the show seem more "real" and less "reality" to me.   The ones where you are surprised as hell they even agreed to go to treatment always seemed contrived.  Oh well.  This one was a trainwreck from the get go. There is no bottom line when there is no bottom.

It has always seemed to me that the addicts who don't give a fight about accepting help are not sincere and are the ones who leave treatment the fastest, but this case was unusual in a lot of respects.  I didn't care for any of the people in this one - the mother who abandoned her family for booze, the addict who did essentially the same to her son, and even something about the son bothered me, although I can't put my finger on what.  He was the only one I felt any real compassion for, however.  I do fear Katie won't survive much longer at the rate she's going, and that leaves that poor son with the grandma that Candy reamed out, quite justifiably.  There seem to be a lot of problems in the mix even apart from drugs and alcohol, so the future does not look promising for any of them.  It just guts me what humans will do to their own children.

Katie was in the agonal stages of her addiction.  She is barely alive, hanging by a thread.  She doesn't care about anything anymore.  What she was saying about caring for her son was lip service, just repeating a mantra she's been mumbling for years.  She didn't mean a word of it and it showed.

Becky isn't long for this world either, even though we saw less of her.

During the letter-reading I couldn't concentrate because Katie was obnoxiously chewing her effing cud.  I didn't care if she went to rehab, I just wanted to smack that gum out of her mouth.

Katie was crazy manipulative and she learned it from Sharon.  Peas in a pod, those two.  I feel sorry for the boy.

She runs a fetish sight.  I guess there is a fetish for everything even 80 year olds suffering from leprosy.   To be honest it's a clever way to make money.  From what I understand she only meets some of her "clients".  Must of her money comes from the running of her porn sight including the one that is simply watching her sleep.  Sick but clever.

To be honest, I think Katie is really beyond saving at this point. Unless she is highly motivated to change, all my hope is lost on her. She's so far gone in her addiction. She's well on her way to the end station; death. Which is so sad. She was smart, successful and beautiful. Meth really messes people up. 

I felt it was already too late and Katie was ready for death. It made me so sad.

Well he was born addicted to heroin and whatever else she was using. I also think emotionally he has separated himself from his mom. I can't blame him for that. I felt sad for him.

Also, Candy is the best.

Even with all of the years of Intervention I've watched, I never knew anal heroin was a thing. I suppose it makes sense but damn, that's a new low.

Yessss! After years of intervention and learning about drug abuse, I thought there wasn't anything I didn't already now. Until I saw Katie pushing heroin up her ass.

Every day Katie lasts is a miracle. I doubt she'll be lasting much longer.

Candy really is terrific. She went above and beyond. She cared more about Katie, a perfect stranger, than Katie cared about herself, sadly.

The depravity of this episode was shocking. I can't believe Katie is still alive after all the these years of hardcore drug abuse. My organs hurt just looking at her. She is so far gone, but at the end it was heartbreaking to see her relapse twice. It was only at the very end could I see any desire to get better. And she just couldn't. I thought for sure the BSOJ would state that she had died.

I agree with the general consensus Katie was a disaster. Sadly, I too believe she was beyond help. 

Did anyone else think in the beginning she was doing entirely too much? Perhaps replacing her drug addiction with an addiction to one career after another? She stated that she was a "successful" real estate agent, corrections officer, loan officer, drug/alcohol counselor, went to school full-time and worked full-time etc. This all could've been exaggerated by her high. However, if true, she was very young IMO to be truly successful in any of these careers. And of course one set back in life, and she's right back on drugs. 

I do wonder though, why her ex got full custody of their daughter? Maybe he just wanted her with him all the time? But I kind of suspect Katie relapsed before the relationship ended and as result her ex got custody of their daughter. 

This was an unfortunate and sad case and reiterates besides abuse, just a lack of life coping skills can often be the culprit in addiction.

The son is not emotionally attached to her- and who can blame him. His comment during the intervention collapse after she decided not to go were very telling.  He's 'learned to pull back from her during these type of scenes'. He's a teenager, being filmed, knowing his friends are going to watch.  But he still wanted to help her.  

It was very odd to me. Katie was either a terror on alcohol and drugs, or a 'paragon of all virtues' while sober. I find the paragon part hard to believe since she spent most of her teen/adult life on drugs.  I didn't like her at all.  

I understand Katie's Mom abandoned her, and then only saw her in the summers.  Katie knows how she, Katie, felt about that. It was HER choice to do it to her OWN children.

Exposure to opioids in utero does zero permanent damage to the developing fetus. The biggest risk is being born addicted, which is dealt with either by in-hospital weaning from the drugs or, if the mother is in treatment and stable, breastfeeding. Mothers on methadone are encouraged to breastfeed if they have a doctor with up-to-date knowledge.

Meth is another thing, mostly because the mothers are generally malnourished and anemic. Not a healthy environment for a developing fetus.

Katie is my cousin and I just wanted to give an update on how she is now. She just spent about two years in prison for a warrant that was drug-related. She remained sober while she was in prison. When she was released from prison she went and lived with Sharon for about 2 weeks north of Phoenix and ended up sneaking out at night to Phoenix, not to be heard from for weeks. When she did contact family, my Aunt Sharon paid a few nights for her at a hotel, but not for long. It has been a few weeks, but she is now court ordered to go to rehab so that's next. We'll see how that goes and continue to hope for the best

I AM HER STEPMOTHER WHO RAISED HER UNTIL SHE WENT TO LIVE WITH HER BIO MOTHER SHARON AT AGE 14 AFTER I HAD BEGGED HER FATHER AND GRANDMOTHER TO NOT LET HER GO BECAUSE I KNEW THAT SHE WOULD END UP EXACTLY LIKE HER MOTHER. I HAD ALL THE RESPONSIBILITY AS A MOTHER BUT ABSOLUTELY NO RIGHTS AS HER STEPMOTHER. I BEGGED ON MY KNEES TO MY HUSBAND, HER FATHER, TO ALLOW ME TO ADOPT BOTH SHE AND HER BROTHER TO NO AVAIL. HE LET HER GO THERE TO SHARON'S PLACE IN MILWAUKEE. I ALWAYS FELT THAT SHE WAS CRYING OUT FOR SOMEONE TO COME AND SAVE HER BUT NONETHELESS THAT NEVER HAPPENED AFTER HIS DECISION TO RELEASE HER TO HER BIO MOTHER SHARON TO CONTINUE TO RAISE DURING HER TEENAGE YEARS. I SHOULD HAVE WRITTEN A BOOK ABOUT MY EXPERIENCE WITH THIS CRAZY FAMILY AND THEIR INABILITY TO EXPERIENCE A LOVING FAMILY ENVIRONMENT. WHEN DICK REMARRIED, HE TOOK ON TWO OTHER BOYS BY HIS THIRD WIFE AND RAISED THEM AFTER THEIR FATHER HAD ABANDONED THAT FAMILY. I HAD DIVORCED HER FATHER FOR HIS INFIDELITY. Unfortunately,  DICK, KATIE S.' FATHER, DIED UNEXPECTEDLY ON THE CARDIAC CATH LAB TABLE IN KENTUCKY WHILE ON A TRIP FROM MEXICO AS A DUAL CITIZEN, WHERE HE HAD ESCAPED THE TORMENT OF FATHERHOOD AND RETIREMENT. EVIDENTLY, FELONS CANNOT ENTER INTO MEXICO, SO THAT ELIMINATED HIS DAUGHTER, HIS FIRST SON, AND ONE OF HIS NEW STEP SON'S FROM FOLLOWING HIM THERE.  KATIE S. WHEN SHE DID FINALLY ARRIVE 2-3 DAYS AFTER THE EVENT, SHE DISCOVERED THAT SHE WAS WRITTEN OUT OF HER FATHER'S WILL ENTIRELY AND FOUND OUT THAT HE AND HER NEW STEPMOTHER HAD TAKEN OUT A LIFE INSURANCE POLICY ON HER LIFE BECAUSE THEY FELT THAT SHE WOULD SOON BE DEAD. THIS WAS REPORTED TO KATIE BY HER LAST STEPMOTHER, THIS POLICY WAS UNBEKNOWNST TO KATIE  AND TAKEN OUT WITHOUT HER CONSENT OR KNOWLEDGE. THE WILL HAS NEVER BEEN OFFICIALLY READ OR SHARED TO KATIE SO THIS IS HEARSAY INPUT FROM HER BIO- BROTHER AND HALF BROTHERS. 

I TOOK KATIE INTO MY HOME ON DECEMBER 13TH, 2018 ALONG WITH HER BOYFRIEND SAM FROM ARIZONA, WHO ALSO HAD BEEN RECENTLY RELEASED FROM PRISON, APPARENTLY AND UNKNOWN TO ME AT THE TIME.  THE FEDS SHOWED UP AT MY DOOR SWAT TEAM STYLE ON FEBRUARY 8TH 2019 APPREHENDING HIM AND PLACING HIM IN THE LOCAL JAIL AWAITING EXTRADITION FOR THE OFFENSES OF ID THEFT AND  GUN POSSESSION BY A FELON OUT OF ARIZONA WITH A $10,000.00 SET BAIL.  PRIOR TO THEIR ARRIVAL BY GREYHOUND BUS THEY BOTH JUMPED AND WERE RUNNING FROM THE LONG ARM OF THE LAW AND ON THE LAM. HERE IS MY OPUS HORRIBILUS REGARDING MY STEP DAUGHTER, A DAUGHTER BY ANOTHER MOTHER. 

KATIE JO SMITH IS IMPERSONATING ME VIA ONLINE APPLICATIONS AND ACTIVELY ATTEMPTING ID THEFT FOR HER BENEFIT AND TO MY DETRIMENT. THIS IS A NIGHTMARE! I, REPEAT, A NIGHTMARE!!!. I HAVE NOTIFIED THE AUTHORITIES, WRITTEN REPORTS, PHONED ALL AGENCIES, BANKS, CREDIT CARD COMPANIES INVOLVED WITH REQUESTS TO FREEZE EVERYTHING. KATIE HAS AN EXPIRED ID THAT BELONGS TO ME AND REFUSED TO GIVE IT BACK TO ME UPON REQUEST. SHE ALSO HAS COPIED MY HOUSE KEY, PLUS DISABLED MY ELECTRIC GARAGE DOOR SO THAT SHE COULD ENTER MY HOME. SHE HAS CONTINUED TO STALK MY HOME AND HAS ATTEMPTED ENTRY NUMEROUS TIMES. MY NEW HOME SECURITY SYSTEM WAS EXPENSIVE BUT WELL WORTH THE COST. SHE HAS HARASSED MY ELDERLY MOTHER TO THE POINT OF SLEEPLESS NIGHTS WITH COMPLAINTS THAT I AM DOING HER WRONG AND HER WOE AS ME LIES BLAMING ME FOR HER CURRENT PREDICAMENT. SIMPLY STATED, SHE HAD TO GO AND NOW SHE'S OUT AND FOR GOOD! HER MENTAL CAPACITY TO COMPREHEND SELF AWARENESS, VICTIMIZATION OF OTHERS WHILE LYING STRAIGHT FACED ACCUSING OTHERS OF THAT WHICH SHE IS ACTIVELY DOING AND THEN GASLIGHTING HER VICTIMS THROUGH MANIPULATION ARE OFF THE CHARTS! COLD HEARTED AND CALCULATING WITH BAD INTENT IS HER MODUS OPERANDI. SHE HAS AN EXTERNAL LOCUS OF CONTROL WITH HER NUMBER ONE GOAL BEING WHAT DRUG SHE SHOULD TRY TO OBTAIN TO USE FOR THE DAY, 24/7! YOU CAN FOOL SOME OF THE PEOPLE SOME OF THE TIME, BUT YOU CAN'T FOOL ALL OF THE PEOPLE ALL OF THE TIME. KATIE, YOU CAN'T FOOL ME!

I HAVE CALLED 911 MULTIPLE TIMES THIS PAST WEEK SINCE SHE LEFT, I HAVE HAD TO PHYSICALLY REMOVE HER FROM MY HOME TWICE AND HAVE THE SCARS TO PROVE IT, AND HAVE INCLUDED PICTURES WITH ALL REPORTS AS WELL AS VERIFICATION WITH THE OFFICERS OF MY INJURIES. SHE WILL NOT STOP TRYING TO HARASS ME AND EVEN USED MY GRANDDAUGHTER AS A PROP TO GET IN THE DOOR ONE TIME WHICH IS A SICK THING TO DO. SHE DOES NOT NEED TO BE AROUND MY GRANDDAUGHTER IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM IN MY OPINION AS KATIE PLACES HER IN POTENTIALLY HARMFUL SITUATIONS. SHE FALSELY TRIED TO REPRESENT ME TO MY MAIL CARRIER, LIED OPENLY TO EVERY AUTHORITY ON PREMISE, DIVERTED PACKAGES, HAS ATTEMPTED TO BREAK INTO MY USPS INFORMED DELIVERY ACCOUNT, ETC.ETC.ETC. 

THE ALTERNATE POSSIBILITY FOR THE URGENT INTERCEPT OF THE PACKAGE ORIGINATING FROM ARIZONA IS THE POSSIBILITY THAT NARCO TRAFFICKING IS BEING PERPETRATED BY SHE AND HER ONE OF HER MANY CONTACTS THERE AND THE PACKAGE ACTUALLY CONTAINED HEROIN/ OR SOME OTHER ILLICIT SUBSTANCE. SHE HAS  A 25 YEAR HEROIN ADDICTION AND I BELIEVE THE TOP REASON SHE CONTINUES TO ATTEMPT TO BREAK INTO MY HOME IS BECAUSE SHE KNOWS THAT MY GREAT AUNT IN HOSPICE HAS LIQUID MORPHINE AND ATIVAN IN HER MED PROFILE.  THE JURY IS OUT ON WHETHER OR NOT THEY HAVE ALSO TRIED TO OPEN ACCOUNTS IN MY DYING GREAT AUNTS NAME BUT TRULY BELIEVE THAT SHE IS ACTIVELY PLOTTING TO DO JUST THAT, AS DESPICABLE AS THAT IS, SHE IS TOTALLY CAPABLE AND DOES NOT HAVE ONE GENE IN HER BODY THAT WOULD DO OTHERWISE.  I REPEAT, THIS IS A NIGHTMARE!  

I WAS LED TO BELIEVE THAT SHE HAD KICKED THIS HABIT DURING HER STRICT STAY AT MY HOME FROM DECEMBER 13TH, 2018 TO FEBRUARY 15, 2019. THAT FACADE IS SHATTERED AND SHE IS UP TO ALL OF HER OLD TRICKS AGAIN AND I MEAN ALL OF HER OLD TRICKS, LITERALLY. SHE IS DESPERATELY TRYING TO OBTAIN THE MONEY BY HOOK OR BY CROOK FOR THE DRUGS SHE NEEDS AND TO FREE HER BOYFRIEND WHO HAS A $10,000.00 SET BAIL TO GET HIM OUT. THEY ARE FUNKILY CODEPENDENT UPON EACH OTHER AND AS THE OLD SAYING GOES, BIRDS OF A FEATHER, FLOCK TOGETHER. IN THIS INSTANCE, I PREDICT THAT SHE WILL BE BACK IN JAIL WITH HIM SOON. SHE BLINDLY BELIEVES HE IS INNOCENT, EVEN KNOWING THAT THEY HAVE CONSPIRED TOGETHER TO DO THE VERY THING THAT HE IS CURRENTLY IN JAIL FOR, ID THEFT!  GREAT JOB, KATIE! NOT ON MY WATCH!! GOTCHA!

KATIE HAD AN ABOVE AVERAGE INTELLIGENCE GROWING UP BUT SUFFERS FROM A VERY MALIGNANT NARCISSISTIC PERSONALITY DISORDER, IS A CON WOMAN SOCIOPATH WITH ADVANCED PATHOLOGICAL LYING SKILLS,  HIGHLY MANIPULATIVE AND DOES NOT CARE IN THE LEAST, WHO SHE HURTS. SHE IS JUST EXACTLY LIKE HER MOTHER SHARON AND NOTHING WILL EVER FREE HER FROM THIS AFFLICTION. I TRIED BUT FAILED TO BREAK THIS FAMILY'S  DYSFUNCTIONAL CYCLE. THIS ENTIRE FAMILY DEFINITELY PUT THE FUNK IN DYSFUNCTIONAL! 

  I AM WRITING ALL OF THIS BECAUSE. I REALLY HAD HOPED THAT SHE WAS SERIOUS ABOUT QUITTING HEROIN AND ALL THE DRUGS COMPLETELY AND FOR GOOD, BUT I WAS WRONG. IT BREAKS MY HEART BECAUSE I DO STILL LOVE HER.  I KNOW WHO SHE REALLY IS DEEP DOWN BECAUSE THERE WAS A TIME THAT SHE HAD SO MUCH POTENTIAL. I HELPED RAISE HER AS HER PRIMARY MOTHER IN HER FORMATIVE YEARS AFTER HER MOTHER ABANDONED BOTH SHE AND HER BABY BROTHER.  

I HAVE NOT SCORES TO SETTLE HERE AND MY ONLY REGRET IS THAT MY ATTEMPTS TO FORMALLY ADOPT THEM AS MY OWN CHILDREN WENT WHOLLY UNANSWERED, THWARTED BY NOSY FAMILY MEMBERS. THE ONE THING THAT I WILL ACKNOWLEDGE HERE IS THAT THE FAMILY MATRIARCH,  GOD REST HER SOUL BEFORE HER DEATH ACKNOWLEDGED THAT I WAS RIGHT ALL ALONG.  AFTER HAVING ALL OF THE RESPONSIBILITY OF RAISING SHARON'S CHILDREN BUT WITHOUT ANY PARENTAL RIGHTS  WAS A BRIDGE TOO FAR. OH, HOW I WISH THAT EVERYTHING HAD TURNED OUT DIFFERENTLY, THAT MY HUSBAND HAD NOT CHEATED, THAT WE COULD HAVE ERASED FOREVER THE STAIN OF SHAR0N ON OUR LIVES AND THAT I COULD HAVE MY SWEET LITTLE FAMILY BACK TOGETHER AGAIN.  IT IS THIS DREAM THAT HAUNTS ME AND NOW THAT DREAM HAS TURNED INTO A NIGHTMARE!  P E A C E ........
