Princess Sparkle April 13, 2015 Share April 13, 2015 (edited) I may have fallen down a rabbit hole today watching sketches on the SNL app (now it's just so easy to do!), and I have to give some love to my two favorite Good Neighbor sketches: The Fight (where Kyle fights Beck) and the Inside SoCal with Bill Hader. I think it's because I can clearly identify kids I knew who were JUST like that in high school (down to the clothes and speech patterns, and I remember watching videos that looked like that in my media class), so they strike me as even funnier, but the visual of Kyle-as-a-metalhead jumping over a 3-inch curb, while angry metal plays in the background, and he looks victoriously at the camera like he did something awesome cracks me up every time I watch it. I know their sketches can be very hit or miss, but the ones where the humor is so clearly rooted in late 90s-early-00s high school just kill me. helenamonster April 13, 2015 Share April 13, 2015 I like those kinds of their videos too. I think one of the first ones they did was where Kyle was running for student body president or something. I guess much hasn't changed about high school boys since the '90s, cuz I graduated three years ago and the spoof still rung true for me. I took sociology senior year and one of our final projects was a video. The class was mostly guys, and most of them were lax brahs (if you don't know the term, consider yourself very lucky) and I watched video after video that was almost identical to the ones that Beck and Kyle do with that premise. It's kind of terrifying actually. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/4877-favorite-snl-sketches-generalissimo-francisco-franco-is-still-dead/page/4/#findComment-1032306
Princess Sparkle April 13, 2015 Share April 13, 2015 (edited) Heh - I am 99% sure I can identify what lax bruhs are, without actually knowing anyone in high school call themselves that (but at my high school, replace lacrosse with hockey). But yup, those guys are pretty much the perfect Inside SoCal guys (even if they're in the middle of the midwest, like I am). Kyle and Beck are just really good at nailing that specific voice, and I would really like if they did a few more sketches centered around those characters (or the "Chris" character). Those sketches always really make me appreciate Kyle a little bit more too; he's a lot more versatile than I originally thought he was. helenamonster April 14, 2015 Share April 14, 2015 Actually, I don't think they called themselves lax brahs. I think that's just what everyone else called them. It would be interesting to see if Beck and Kyle could bring those characters into a live segment. I realize that the way the videos are edited is key to premise, but I think it could work if done right. VH1 reran a sports spectacular last night and I realized one of my favorite sketches ever has got to be Will Forte as the basketball coach who plays the Tiajuana Brass for his players. It's so absurd and joyful I love it every time I see it. I am laughing all over again thinking about "Judy Blume!" I also loved when actual Nick Cage was on, because even though he was pretty subdued, I gave him a lot of credit for sitting there while going along with a lot of the jokes at his expense - "it's easy to support a man with the rugged, smoky features of a cunning cigar store Indian" and "However, 'til now, I've only been able to muster a measly 90%, bringing shame upon my dojo." being my two favorite. And finding out that actual Nicholas Cage decided to add in that excited clap before saying "I'm going to have a 3-way with the Declaration of Independence" is fantastic. And those Will Forte lockerroom sketches crack me up. The Peyton Manning one is my favorite - once you slowly see everyone start to raise up their towels to cover their faces while laughing, all while Will Forte just beams with happiness and dances around. I miss Will Forte sometimes. I also have to throw in - when it is eventually Keenan's final season, I want one last "Scared Straight" sketch, where Bill, Andy and Jason come back to do it. Those ALWAYS made me laugh, especially the Lindsay Lohan and Tracy Morgan ones. My best friend and I will often yell "Is that what you want, HUH?! A murder-suicide with Punxsatowney Phil!!!" Peace 47 January 23, 2016 Share January 23, 2016 (edited) Oh man, I just read this whole thread, and there's so many favorites (had to hit the like button on many nearly 2-year-old posts). I have to say that, other than those mentioned, a recent favorite of mine is "Meet Your Second Wife." I've probably watched it 10 times on YouTube since the episode aired. "She's holding up five fingers. I believe she's trying to say she's five." Lol. It's some biting social satire, and as I mentioned in the episode thread, the horrified reaction of the live audience really sells it. Oh, and I want to add that of the classics, Phil Hartman as devious plotting Reagan (using the Girl Scouts as cover) and as gluttonous, super intelligent Clinton ("There's a lot of things we won't be telling Mrs. Clinton.") are also two classic favorites. All these years, and I still love and miss Phil Hartman quite a bit. Princess Sparkle November 1, 2017 Share November 1, 2017 Since there was talk of Bill Hader's genius in the Halloween special thread, I just want to throw in my underrated favorite sketches of his - the Vinny Vedicci sketches. My all-time favorite is the Seth Rogan one, where he does a spot-on Seth Rogan impression right in front of him. A close follow-up is the Shia LeBoeuf one, all for Bill's face on "man to...woman?" I also have a soft-spot for the Match Game parody they did the first time Shia LeBoeuf hosted. Bill Hader does such a good job of playing the straight man to everyone else's over-the-top parts. 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/4877-favorite-snl-sketches-generalissimo-francisco-franco-is-still-dead/page/4/#findComment-3774939
Mumbles November 6, 2017 Share November 6, 2017 Quote I also have a soft-spot for the Match Game parody they did the first time Shia LeBoeuf hosted. Bill Hader does such a good job of playing the straight man to everyone else's over-the-top parts. Yep, definitely one of my top 10. Especially since I have such a fondness for the Match Game. One of my favorites is a very obscure one that is impossible to find - "Carl Sagan's Global Warming Christmas Special." With host Tom Hanks as a very confused Dean Martin. Also, in the early 1990s Adam Sandler did an imitation of Bill Cosby in a parody of "The Cosby Mysteries" (a completely real, mediocre NBC series with Cosby as a wise cracking detective.) That'll never see the light of day again but it was just Sandler doing Cosby jibberish and mugging for 3 minutes and funny as hell. Also loved the Nat X sketches - favorite was when Sinbad played Joe Jackson and Nat screamed at him repeatedly, "Why did you have to hit Tito?!?!?" (You might have to have been there.)
