Clearly Barbara is alive on Gotham, so what can you tell me about her arc this season? — Amy

If you thought Barbara killing her parents was bad, it’s only the beginning. “That moment where she kills her parents is the moment she sets herself completely free from every tie she ever had — her ties to Jim, to society, or maybe even sanity, you could argue,” Erin Richards says. Furthermore, she says that Barbara is headed to Arkham in episode 1, where she’ll meet “this band of emerging villains who shape who she’s going to be in this series.”

Question: Do you have any info as to who will not be returning for Gotham Season 2 as a series regular? (Other than Jada Pinkett-Smith, I assume.) —Alex

Ausiello:

Matt Mitovich did some digging around and learned that, as suspected, neither Victoria Cartagena nor Andrew Stewart-Jones (AKA Montoya and Allen) will return as regulars. Meanwhile, though Michael Chiklis is coming on board as GCPD Captain Nathaniel Barnes, Zabryna Guevara, who plays Captain Essen, is still a series regular — and in fact will play a key role this season.

From TV Guide's Fall Preview...

Returning Fall Shows: Where We Left Off

Gotham (Fox)
Premieres:
Monday, Sept. 21 at 8/7c

Where We Left Off: The Falcone-Maroni gang war culminated with Gordon betraying Penguin, Falcone leaving town and Penguin shoving a just-returned Fish Mooney to her (presumed) death and declaring himself the "king of Gotham." With the help of Alfred, Bruce Wayne discovered a secret entrance to his father's (cave-like) private office.

What's Next: Season 2 has been dubbed "The Rise of the Villains." "This season is going to be more intense, more epic, more of a saga," executive producer Bruno Heller says. "Gotham is descending into anarchy. This season, Gotham transforms into the world that needed Batman to come and save it." While that might seem to bode well for Penguin, don't expect his reign at the top to be permanent. Elsewhere, Harvey has left the force and Gordon's been demoted to a uniform cop when Capt. Barnes (new series regular Michael Chiklis) picks up where Jim's "save the GCPD" crusade ended. The secrets Bruce finds in his father's office may put him at odds with his caretaker. "His father's office makes very real what was previously a childish revenge fantasy," Heller says. "He plunges into a much darker and more adult world than we've seen him in before." Plus: James Frain joins the cast as Theo Galavan, a prodigal son returning to Gotham with an insidious plan.

Leo Fitzpatrick has been cast as villain Joe Pike...

The Wire alum Leo Fitzpatrick is set for a recurring arc on the second season of Fox’s Batman prequel series Gotham.

Season 2 will focus on “The Rise of the Villains” and Fitzpatrick’s character will certainly fall under that category. He’ll play Joe Pike, the leader of a notorious gang of arsonists known as the Pike Brothers. Series stars Ben McKenzie, David Mazouz, Robin Lord Taylor, Camren Bicondova, Cory Michael Smith, Erin Richards, Morena Baccarin, Donal Logue and Sean Pertwee will all return for the second go-round.

If Barbara is over at Arkham, what’s going on with Jim Gordon when Gotham returns? — Kyle

He’ll be trying to navigate his new position with the GCPD and his relationship with Leslie in the wake Barbara’s meltdown. “Jim has been demoted so he’s dealing with some stuff,” Morena Baccarin teases. For her part, Leslie is “a little rattled with what happened with the whole Barbara situation. They’re trying to stay steady. It’s good right now, but it seems like there might be some trouble ahead.”

I don't know how to get article excerpts in the fancy quote boxes, so I just copy and pasted the bit about Gotham. :P

:( I like Jim an Leslie together. I knew things were going too perfect for them. Hopefully they can work things out.

Now that we’re in Gotham Season 2, will Gotham still keep up the Thomas and Martha Wayne investigation, or will the show move on from that? –Sofia

I hand-delivered your question to Bruce Wayne’s portrayer, David Mazouz, who said that the series-launching murder mystery “will be an ongoing thing” throughout Gotham‘s run. “Gordon’s not really looking into it that much anymore, but Bruce is,” the teen said. “The Top 3 things that are on Bruce’s list are: take down the corrupt side of Wayne Enterprises, find out who his father really was, and find out his parents’ murderer. And they’re all connected.”

Source.

Ugh. This is The Mentalist/Red John all over again. They're going to string the audience along until they're sure they're cancelled.

Ben McKenzie was at Wizard World Chicago Comic-Con this weekend and apparently had this to say about when fans could expect to see Batman on the show:

"The last frame of the last shot of the last scene of the last episode of Gotham, whatever season that may be, is Bruce putting on that cape".

Anything on the new faces coming to Gotham? — Mac

Instead of talking about one of the new faces we know — of which there are many  — let’s talk about someone I can’t yet identify. When talking with my colleague Samantha Highfill about the time period in which the city of Gotham exists, executive producer Danny Cannon teased: “We have a character now who basically wants to move into the future and has a grand design of moving Gotham into a modern future, and we’re going to see if the city can handle that kind of pressure or not.” Their true intentions remain to be seen, but considering the season explores the rise of the villains, he or she is probably bad.

From Eonline's 2015 Fall TV Spoiler-rama...

What to Expect: If season one was all about the heroes of Gotham realizing their true calling, then season two is going to be all about the villains. Shameless star Cameron Monaghan is returning as "Jerome," aka the Joker, but this time, he'll be stirring up trouble from behind bars when the show takes a deep look at what goes on inside Arkham Asylum and all the foes currently locked up. But when Tabitha Galavan aka Tigress and her brother Theo invade Arkham, will they sick all the murderers and criminals on Gotham?

A DEADLY ESCAPE ROCKS THE CITY ON AN ALL-NEW “GOTHAM” MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, ON FOX

Following his reinstatement, Gordon is thrust onto the high-profile case tracking the deadly inmate escape from Arkham Asylum. Meanwhile, Galavan plans his next move, while Bruce enlists the help of his father’s old friend to unlock the secrets in his office, and Nygma attempts to ask out Kristin Kringle (guest star Chelsea Spack) on a date in the all-new “Rise of the Villains: Knock, Knock” episode of GOTHAM airing Monday, Sept. 28 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (GTH-202) (TV-14; L, V) CC-AD-HDTV 720p-Dolby Digital 5.1

GOTHAM

Much has been made of Season 2's "Rise of the Villains" theme, which adds to the mischievous mix billionaire Theo Galvan and his sister Tabitha aka Tigress (played by James Frain and Jessica Lucas) and the superbaddie Firefly, complementing a more powerful than ever Penguin and the emerging Riddler. "Edward [Nygma]'s darker voice is going to manifest itself," says Cory Michael Smith, "and very literally there will be two Eds, contending with each other." The effect on do-right Jim Gordon is that "he's going to be pulled into a bit of darkness, as he fights the good fight," says newly promoted series regular Morena Baccarin, who plays Leslie. Meanwhile, what Bruce finds inside his father's batty cave will inform his POV on Dad and Wayne Enterprises as well as impact his already tenuous bond with Alfred. But ultimately, David Mazouz shares, "It will cause Alfred to train Bruce, and the development of Batman will start."

BONUS SPOILER!: Although Selena has taken a dark turn since Bruce last saw her, "Their relationship is pretty much the same" once they reconnect, Mazouz says. But: "Eventually, something will stop Selena from interacting with Bruce," leaving him vulnerable to the charms of socialite Silver St. Cloud (The Goldbergs' Natalie Alyn Lind).

Where does the new season of Gotham pick up? — Zac

There’s a mini-time jump in the season premiere, which finds Jim working the streets as a beat cop after being demoted. He may be down, but trust me when I tell you that he’s not out. In fact, we’ll see him go to great lengths to achieve his goals, even if that means being on the wrong side of the law and getting his hands a little (or a lot) dirty.

With all these villains, I sort of wish they would deviate from normal Batman lore and put Gordon in the suit as the orginal Batman. I know Gordon believes in the law and think he can get the job done, but part of me wishes this season would get hopeless enough that it's something Gordon could have considered. It would be a fun twist.

I know there have been interviews that McKenzie said the show would end with Bruce in the suit but a girl could dream right? With the show rolling through so many villains with Bruce being so young, who's going to be left for him to fight?

Gordon and Bullock track down a nemesis from the past, leading to a standoff between Jerome (guest-star Cameron Monaghan) and Gordon. Meanwhile, a magic show at the Gotham Children's Hospital gala turns into a hostage situation in the all-new "Rise of the Villains: The Last Laugh" episode of GOTHAM airing Monday, Oct. 5 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. Question: Would you have some scoop on Jim Gordon and Leslie Thompkins’ relationship for Season 2 of Gotham? —Mickey

Ausiello: Lee (as Leslie is regularly called now) is very much Jim’s rock as the lawman’s career continues to hit nadir after nadir, pulling him toward a bleak darkness. Jailbird Barbara, though, promises to be a recurring wrench in the works, while Lee herself is not without a charming admirer, as seen in the new season’s (shocking) third episode.

'Gotham' (Sept. 21, 8 p.m., Fox)

WHERE WE LEFT OFF: All the old crime bosses are dead or missing, including Fish Mooney. Now Penguin (Robyn Lord Taylor) is King of Gotham and things are about to get really weird.

WHAT'S COMING UP: The procedural, monster-of-the-week kind of episodes are almost entirely gone: "Gotham" is embracing serialization. Says executive producer John Stephens, “It's what the actors wanted to act and what we wanted to write.” Also, “That's what the audience is looking for these days, especially in these days of binge-watching.”

LOOK WHO ELSE IS COMING TO DINNER: There will be tons of classic villains including Mr. Freeze, Clayface, Mad Hatter, Firefly, Azrael, and, of course, Jerome (Cameron Monaghan). Stephens refers to him as a “proto-Joker,” someone who creates a template that the Joker will emulate years later when Batman finally appears. — Robert Chan

Fall TV Preview: Scoop on 66 Returning Shows

It's been clear from the start that this show is not going to follow canon, It's going to tell the Batman origin story how it feels like and that's okay.  Obviously Babara is never going to be Mrs. Gordon in this one and will be Harley Quinn or some kind of Harleyesque character.  Evil, psycho, bisexual, and kinky.  I think the writers especially like Erin Richards playing bisexual and kinky.  Likes having her minions dote on her and pamper her, like the inmate doing her toes.  Very Harley.   It is kind of jarring that they started the series with her being Gordon's sexy and sophisticated girlfriend and future mother of Batgirl, then obviously they decided that wasn't working so they turned her into a villain.  Just have to ignore that whopping character inconsistency and enjoy this reimagining of Barbara Kean.  I'll take a not so wild guess that Leslie will become Gordon's wife and be Batgirl's mother in this series.

OK, I’m back on board with Gotham. Any scoop to share? –Craig

This Monday’s episode features a significant death, as well as an enormously entertaining dialogue between Lucius Fox (newly promoted series regular Chris Chalk) and Alfred, as the gents first meet and warily compare agendas with regard to Master Bruce. Also, if you were wondering if the real-life baby news for costars Ben McKenzie and Morena Baccarin will be mirrored on-screen, I am hearing that is not the plan.

Significant death? Let's see...none of the main villains ofcourse will bite it (they have to live to see Batman)--unless they deviate from canon like with Babs. Maybe they'll off one of the more minor villains we've seen (so like Zsaz). There's Mama Cobblepot & Butch, the police commissioner lady, I guess Loeb could finally bite it, Ms. Kringle? I can't really think of anyone else who's considered expendable in the Batman lore.

If it's Mama Cobblepot or Butch... :(

Bruno Heller on Life After the Maniax Massacre

Expect Jerome to have a huge target on his back now that he’s publicly taken credit for the GCPD massacre, and that will finally lead viewers to the answer of whether or not he is in fact The Joker.

“We’re going to be giving you concrete answers to his identity,” Heller says. “That story is going to come to a huge and shocking resolution which will explain the whole Joker myth and how it began and how the Joker came to be.”

*cringe*  At least we'll get a definite answer.

Oh, and a bunch of other stuff about the new Commissioner, Wayne Enterprises, etc.

Hrm. I have a speculative theory, hope this is the correct place. Theo Galavan has been spoken of in the media as being a definite known villain. Being who he seems to be, I'd garner it's possible he is Ra's al Ghul. If this is the case, Jerome could wind up becoming the Joker if he were placed in one of Ra's' Lazarus pits and brought back?

Question: I loved the first significant scenes of Chris Chalk’s Lucius Fox on Gotham. How much can we expect to see of this awesomeness during the season? Any spoilers you can share? —Nicole

Ausiello: As established in next week’s episode (though he’s off camera), Lucius is getting ever closer to fixing Thomas Wayne’s secret computer, so it’s just a matter of time until he resurfaces to keep Alfred on his toes and help mentor young Bruce. “What Sean [Pertwee] and I find exciting about the Lucius/Alfred dynamic,” says Chalk, “is it’s two people who can match each other. Usually Alfred is the smartest man in the room, the most dangerous man in the room, and now he has an intellectual counterpart who’s like, ‘I can go all day with you.’” The Wayne Enterprises tech-spert’s connection to Bruce, meanwhile, “is pure loyalty,” says Chalk. “His dad was for the greater good, and having not previously pledged his loyalty in a more active way, Lucius now has a chance to do that with Bruce, to be an adviser in a way.”
