ElectricBoogaloo March 4, 2016 Share March 4, 2016 Formidable as ever, both Underwoods have their eyes on the big picture as they manipulate a potential running mate and push the gun bill. Link to comment
Dancingjaneway March 5, 2016 Share March 5, 2016 Those bastards painted over Meechums hand print. It made me teary eyed seeing Frank run his hand over the wall and not seeing the hand print. I just don't like the Conways at all. They are annoying and they are in no way CLOSE to being a young Frank/Clair. They aren't even a 2.0 version!! I'm so happy that Lucas' boss is taking over the investigation. I'm just super worried about his sweet dog. Have I mentioned yet that I want Doug dead?? 3 Link to comment
numbnut March 5, 2016 Share March 5, 2016 I'm so happy that Lucas' boss is taking over the investigation. Me too! His discovery in the pizza place was awesome! So happy to see Tom Yates return as well. 6 Link to comment
Chaos Theory March 5, 2016 Share March 5, 2016 (edited) I love how this show seems to drop a character like Tom Yates for episodes or even seasons and then bring them Back when it needs them. Tom Yates and his investigation might be a highlight of the show. I thought the Conways would be a threat to the Underwoods but they are too cloying for my tastes. LMM March 9, 2016 Share March 9, 2016 (edited) Does anyone have any ideas what the research guy taking his shirt off, donning headphones, and getting down had to do with the story? Edited March 9, 2016 by LMM 4 Link to comment
Jael March 10, 2016 Share March 10, 2016 That was the WEIRDEST. They've certainly been bringing back the whole host of characters from previous seasons -- I'd forgotten about Tom entirely, though not Kim Dickens' reporter character. Agree that the Conways seem a little blah. Hope one or both have some kind of appalling, intriguing secret on the way. Link to comment
Maysie March 10, 2016 Share March 10, 2016 Does anyone have any ideas what the research guy taking his shirt off, donning headphones, and getting down had to do with the story? Oh good grief, THANKS for that. I had no idea what that was. It was like a strange hallucination. 1 Link to comment
ShellSeeker March 12, 2016 Share March 12, 2016 It really was so bizarre. This show is so much better when Frank and Claire are working together, at their scheming, duplicitous best. And I loved Frank's line about politics not being just theater anymore, but show business, so they might as well put on the best show in town. Might end up being prophetic words, if we end up with a brokered GOP convention. 3 Link to comment
ChelleGame March 12, 2016 Share March 12, 2016 Does anyone have any ideas what the research guy taking his shirt off, donning headphones, and getting down had to do with the story? What in the world was that? I backtracked ten minutes just to make sure I hadn't missed anything. Balls out to the actor, he just embraced being shirtless and middle aged and in a bizarro scene that seemed disconnected to not only the show but the galaxy. 2 Link to comment

Not really balls out to him/to the writers. I'd say "balls out" if he were completely out of shape, totally hairy, etc... In other words, not exactly remotely close to the so-called Hollywood ideal. ElectricBoogaloo March 19, 2016 Author Share March 19, 2016 (edited) Heh, Mr. EB's reaction to that scene was, "Well, what good is it to be your own boss if you can't take off your shirt and rock out once in a while?" Although I don't enjoy the Conroys, they are a great depiction of the younger generation with the endless selfies and obvious public displays of affection for the press. I don't specifically dislike PDA or spouses who clearly love each other, but when you do things like tell a gaggle of reporters, "Isn't my wife perfect?" and then dip her for a kiss, ugh. It fits into what Frank said about how it's all show business now and I'm sure it appeals to a lot of people who can relate to someone taking a selfie as they're having their picture taken by a professional photographer, but I find it obnoxious, self-absorbed, and annoying. I was so sad to see Frank look for Meechum's handprint and see that it had already been painted over. But I have to admit that I giggled a little when he made a Titanic-esque handprint in the bathroom. I suppose I could interpret the fact that he turned his head away while holding up her towel as being a southern gentleman, but I took it as another sign that he is not physically attracted to Claire. Mr. EB and I have been together for years and he never misses an opportunity to get an eyeful of me, even if I'm just changing from one shirt into another. I'm getting a weird vibe off this couple, like they're HoC's version of Philip and Elizabeth from The Americans. Wouldn't that be something if the Ruskies managed to get one of their planted-from-birth spies sitting in POTUS' chair? Of course, Frank and/or Claire would find out and head them off before it actually happened. Link to comment
RustbeltWriter March 25, 2016 Share March 25, 2016 My favorite part of this episode was when Tom Yates was waiting for Doug in the coffee shop. His nose perked up as Doug entered, before he saw him, like the foul stench of sulfur had alerted him to the devil's presence. 3 Link to comment

I was looking forward to seeing him standing in the hall every couple of episodes with his hand inside the outline, his eyes closed and a look of peace on his face. "Oh Meechum, the only man I ever loved...". 1 Link to comment
Mattipoo April 9, 2016 Share April 9, 2016 That research guy rocking out shirtless to techno was awesome! It looked like some kind of weird electronica MTV video from the late 1990s. Poor Meechum! He was never a big presence on the show, most of the time in the background, but now that he is gone, he is truly missed. The Conways are cute but hate the way they are always taking selfies and mugging for the camera. The NRA woman has to be one of the most detestable characters on the show ever. Such a bitch! I was tempted to stop when Frank offed the dog in the first episode, but I halfheartedly justified it as putting the injured pooch out of its misery. But if they kill that Lab....I'm so done. Not done, like I said I was when Shonda killed off Dempsey, but REALLY DONE this time! And yes to Meechum's hand print. I could kind of see the outline under the layer of paint. Sniff. I'm not as into this season as I was in prior seasons. Way too much Claire. Maybe it's my predisposed slight dislike for Robin Wright, I dunno. It's a little less than my raging dislike for Cameron Diaz, but still. The President gets shot and what do we get...more Season of Claire. Are they that determined to get her that Lead Actress Emmy? I've never enjoyed Robin Wright that much. I think that she gives good performance, just a boring one. For me to enjoy following a character who is unlikable, then the actor has to be enjoyable to watch. I'm thinking of Larry Hagman in Dallas, Gregory Itzin and Penny Johnson Jerald in 24, and even Kevin Spacey up to S2. She just bores me (I also feel the same way about Michael Kelley). Hanahope July 18, 2016 Share July 18, 2016 Great manipulation again on the VP pick. And I wonder whether that's really going to stick or is Claire going to become a 'last minute fill in" once everyone's accustomed to a female VP. I still think that would be a bad choice for Frank, Claire might really kill him. And I loved the reporter finding out about Meechum's coffee stops in the pizza shop and how he's got a lead on how to prove Frank's involvement with Zoe. Link to comment
